Note: "Italics with quotes" in this chapter is to emphasize a very powerful character's voice. Italics by themselves are Kevin's thoughts.

Chapter 9: Welcome to Spiritus

"My name is Blade Knight and I won't be defeated that easily."

"Lets duel"

Kevin Vs Blade Knight (4000 LP)

Kevin's POV

We both draw five cards from our respective decks.

"The first move I make," Blade Knight commences. He draws and examines his cards. "I summon my very own self, 'Blade Knight'!" He glows a bright light. "I place three cards face down and end my turn."

"Alright then, it's my turn!" I draw a card from my deck and examine my hand.

"You have to play your cards carefully," the mysterious voice reminds me.

"Yeah," I agree as I notice my top monster in my hand. "I summon Speed Warrior in attack mode." Speed warrior appears upside down while spinning in circles with 900 attack points and 400 defense points."Go, Speed warrior attack Blade Knight. This turn, since he was normal summoned, its attack points are doubled." Speed Warrior races to Blade Knight and attacks, spinning upside down in circles. He smacks Blade Knight and his life points decrease.

[Blade Knight's Life Point: 3800]

"I place one card face down and end my turn." I smile satisfied.

"I don't like how he didn't play anything during that battle," the mysterious voice says. "He's planning something much bigger."

"I activate my face down trap card, 'Call of the Haunted', which lets me bring back Blade Knight from the graveyard." His card opens up and again, he glows a bright light. "Now, it's my turn and I draw. For my first move, I activate the spell 'Fairy Meteor Crush' and equip it myself. I also activate my spell, 'Stop Attack' which switches your Speed Warrior to defense mode."

"Why would he switch my warrior to defense mode when he could inflict me damage?" I ask confused.

"With Fairy Meteor Crush, he can inflict piercing damage," the mysterious voice clarifies. "And since your monster has fewer defense points, he's planning to hit you with some heavy damage."

"Oh… This is bad."

"Now since I only have one card in my hand, I gain 400 attack points thus bringing my attack points to 2000."

Great.

"I attack!" Blade Knight's card disappears from his hand and is replaced by a silver sword. He then attacks and swings his sword at me. A bright white arc of light is released from his sword and heads to my Speed Warrior. It takes the hit and shatters into a bunch of triangular pieces.

[Kevin's LP: 2400]

I scowl at the damage.

"I place one card face down and I end my turn."

What am I going to do? "It's my turn, draw." I declare.

"Before you do anything, I activate my facedown spell card, 'Mystical Space Typhoon', to destroy your only facedown card." A mini-tornado shoots out of his card and shatters my face down trap.

I smile. "Thanks because you destroyed a very special trap which is 'Limit Overload'. Since it was sent to the graveyard, I can special summon Speed Warrior back to my field from my graveyard in attack mode."

"You should destroy his Knight," the mysterious voice reminds me.

"Exactly, so I discard a card to special summon 'The Tricky', from my hand, in attack mode." A creature with question marks on its chest and face and a blue cape on its back appears with 2000 attack and 1200 defense points.

"Now, go The Tricky, attack him!" My monster prepares to attack with a punch, but a spell card is revealed on Blade Knight's side of the field.

"I activate 'Rush Recklessly', which increases my monster's attack by 700."

"No… Now he has 2700 attack points," the mysterious voice points out.

He's going to destroy my Tricky and next turn, I'll surely lose. I look at my hand and smile. "I chain with my quick spell, 'Tricky Spell 4'. By tributing my Tricky, I can special summon a Tricky Token in its place in defense mode." The Tricky disappears and a similar-looking monster appears in its place with 2000 attack and 1200 defense.

"You managed to stop your own attack. Very interesting choice of play." Blade Knight says.

"I place a face down and end."

"That was a close one," the mysterious voice tells me.

"Yeah… No joke." But now, I got my Speed Warrior in attack mode. I'm going to take some serious damage again.

"I draw and attack your Speed Warrior." He slashes my warrior and I groan as it shatters.

[Kevin's LP: 1300]

"I end my turn. Give up now and you'll face less humiliation than if you keep trying. You can't beat me human."

"I will not give up, Blade Knight. I believe in my deck and my deck will lead me to victory!" I exclaim as I touch the top of my deck ready to draw.

"I will help you, human. You've shown me potential and for believing in your cards, I will give you the power to win." The mysterious voice tells me. My deck begins to glow and I draw.

Speed Synchron. "Is this-"

"Yes. My humble friend will help you win this duel."

I smile. "Let's do this! I summon 'Speed Synchron'!" A warrior similar to Speed Warrior appears with 400 attack points and 900 defense points.

"A tuner…" Blade Knight says.

I grin. "Since Speed Synchron was normal summoned, I'm allowed to special summon Speed Warrior from my graveyard." My warrior returns once again. "Now, I tune my level two Speed Synchron with my level two Speed Warrior." [2+2] Speed Synchron dissolves into two circular green circles and surrounds Speed Warrior. A bright white light engulfs them.

"From the dark abyss of the void, weak becomes strong, and helping hands unite; I Synchro Summon; 'QuickFlash Warrior'!" A red warrior with a black mask and cool-looking red/black armor appears.

*Introducing Quickflash Warrior. Quickflash Warrior is a level four Wind Synchro warrior type monster with 1800 attack and defense points.

"Woah, he looks amazing," I awe in the epicness. "Time to do this. I activate my monster's effect, once during the main phase, I can double its attack until the end of the battle phase." I smile and point a finger at him. "I won't let you win. I also play my spell card, 'Heavy Storm', which destroys all spell and trap cards on the field.

"No!" A huge wind shatters all his spell and trap cards, which one of them was the one and only "Mirror Force".

"I also activate my spell, 'Gift of the Martyr'; by sending my tricky token to the graveyard, I can increase my warrior's amount by their attack."

"That's a boost of 2000," the mysterious voice says. "5600 attack points!" The token disappears and a yellow light engulfs my synchro monster.

"Now, for my last effect, I remove from play my level two Speed Synchro and my Speed Warrior to increase my Quickflash Warrior's attack by 200."

"That's 5800 attack points!" Blade Knight exclaims.

"Exactly. Just enough to beat you." I grin and raise up my hand. "Go! Attack him with Spinner Kick of Power!" My warrior jumps and kicks him on the chest.

[Blade Knight LP: 0]

Winner: Kevin

My duel disk disappears and I go to Blade Knight, who's on one knee.

"You have beaten me, human. As a noble knight, I will serve you and allow you to enter the castle, but beware, there are more powerful foes inside.

"You have done well, Blade Knight," the mysterious voice says. "This is him. The human that will set us free."

"Yes, I agree."

"Wait, you can hear that voice too?" I question.

Blade Knight nods. "Indeed."

"Human, this was a test to see if you are worthy of setting this Kingdom from the grasp of Chaos. I'm currently locked up below the castle, and the only way I can communicate with my Knight and you was through my voice."

"Can I set you free?" I ask.

"Yes… But you won't be able to get into the castle alone. Evil forces patrol every corner. Luckily, I was able to keep my Knight from his evil control."

"From day one, I believed that my princess deserved to reign. Not The Evil King who reigns all of Spiritus. I don't have the power to break the seal that he placed on my princess, but I believe that you do, human. Please aid us in setting her free."

The mysterious voice is a princess, but she doesn't sound like one though. Her voice is all deep like a man. I nod. "I will, but how will we get in?" I think and then suggest, "What if you Blade Knight, bring me in for trespassing. Let's say you captured me and you're going to lock me up as you did with The Princess. From there, we can break her out."

The Knight nods. "Very well, human. I will seek to that plan of yours."

"Tie him up," the Princess says. "That'll give the idea that you captured him." Blade Knight gets out a long silver string and ties my hands.

"Let's do this! Lead the way, Blade Knight."

We enter the Kingdom; there are big stone buildings, a few shops here and there, and multiple guards similar-looking to Blade Knight. Along the way, The Princess and Blade Knight explain to me about the world I was in. The Spirit World, where all duel creatures live, but to be more specific, I was in Spiritus; the kingdom, where the mysterious King and Queen used to rule. They ruled a long time ago. It's been a long time that she has forgotten who they were. She's lived longer than anyone else in the kingdom.

"Even longer than Chaos?" I ask seeing numerous Blade Knights looking suspiciously at us.

"No… I… I think he's been around as much as I have been," The Princess tells me.

"That's a question we all have…" Blade Knight adds.

"Do you guys think, he'll have some answers?"

The Princess doesn't say anything, so Blade Knight responds, "Yes." A short while later, we get confronted by a pair of Blade Knights.

"You managed to capture a very weird-looking creature." One of them, (called Blade Knight A) says.

"I think I know these kinds… I just can't put my finger on that word," the other one (Blade Knight B) adds.

"I'm taking this creature to the dungeons. Chaos will deal with it later. I'll make sure of it," Blade Knight explains, serious.

"Very well, best of luck, Blade Knight," Blade Knight A says and they nod.

When they leave and we're a distance away, I ask, "Why do you all look alike? That must be so confusing. I had to be like Blade Knight A said this and Blade Knight B added this, in my mind."

I hear the princess giggle and I smile.

"Chaos cursed us and he decided to stick all of us in this form. Either that and do what he asks or be imprisoned in a stone tablet," Blade Knight explains.

"Oh."

"Zeman, the Ape King, has been doing that in his Kingdom…" The Princess says. "We got lucky."

"Who's Zeman?" I ask as we arrive at the entrance of the biggest castle of all. "Oh, wow. That's huge."

"I will explain another time," The Princess says.

I nod and look at Blade Knight. "I promise you; I will release you from your curse. No matter what." He nods as I feel the mood change. If he could smile, he'd be smiling big right now, I'm 100% sure.

"Let's go." But of course, we had to change plans just as we entered through the main entrance to the great hall.

Another Blade Knight (...) exclaims, "There's been an attack at the south entrance of The Kingdom. Resistance attacks. Leave the creature. We need to eliminate them!" Blade Knight (the one in our group) told them he would catch up; he would first lock me up to keep me from causing mayhem to all the Blade Knights. We couldn't proceed with our plan at the moment. So, I follow Blade Knight to a room up the castle and he tells me to wait until he comes back.

"If anyone else comes, hide, and don't show yourself until I come back. Got it?"

I nod and just as he is about to leave, I call, "Wait. Let me see." I look around and see a blue marker on a table.

I get it and draw a blue moon on his chest. "So I know it's you."

"Smart, but interesting…" The Princess compliments. Blade Knight nods and leaves locking the door.

I sigh and go lay on the bed. I soon yawn.

"You should rest… Hmm" She pauses and I clarify to her.

"I'm Kevin."

"Kevin... " She is quiet for a moment. "I'm Eclipse."

"Princess Eclipse," I say. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Kevin." She goes quiet again for a few seconds.

"You, okay?" I ask her.

"Yes… Your name just sounds familiar."

"Oh."

"You should rest. I'll call you if anything."

I nod and close my eyes. "See you soon, Princess."
