A/N: Hello and welcome back to The Life Channel! I hope everyone is doing well. I don't really have much to say at the moment, so hope you enjoy this action-packed chapter. It was really fun to write and truth-to-be-told, this was actually written a while back. Apologies for any confusion or errors. I will eventually revisit and update this story.
Note: Italics and underline is the conversation in mind between Kevin and Luna.
Chapter 12-2 A Piece of the Past

Goodwin: Congratulations on moving on to the next round.
Kevin and Luna: Thanks.
Goodwin: Now, as you two may have noticed. Your next duel is against Yusei and you will be facing off in a turbo duel.
Luna: But I don't know how to turbo duel.
Goodwin: No, but he certainly does.
Kevin: This is an opportunity, Luna.
Kevin: Mister Atlas…
Jack: You two are in my way. Yusei will advance in this tournament, either way. Only I can defeat him. You two fighting him will be a waste of time.
Kevin: Well, when we get to you; a new king and queen will take the throne.
Luna: It's for Kevin's past and future.
Kevin: And do you? The boyfriend and girlfriend thing?
Luna: King… Queen… Spiritus… Daddy… "Oh my. It's a fairytale!"
Announcer: Welcome back to the semifinals of The Fortune Cup! Five duelists remain, and the winner will take on Jack Atlas in the championship duel,
Kevin: You ready Luna?
Luna: Let's do this!
Announcer: And now- take out your speed world field spells-
Ready, Set, Duel!
No One's POV [Yusei vs Kevin/Luna]
(4000 Vs 4000)
The two duel runners take off and Kevin manages to somehow take the lead. Wow, this feels incredible. I'm loving the breeze. He tells Luna in her mind.
She smiles. Same. You're a natural with this.
Seems so. "We'll make the first move. I draw.!" He places the card in the cardholder and summons out his ace. "We summon out Speed Warrior." It appears with 900 attack and 400 defense points. "We throw down two face-down cards and that's it for now."
Yusei draws and all duelists gain a speed counter.
Yusei: 1
Kevin/Luna: 1
"I set three cards and I end my turn."
That's strange, Luna says as he draws a card. Only face down cards. Does he want us to attack then?
Kevin/Luna: 2
Yusei: 2
Most likely, he agrees. What should we do?
Play it safe, she suggests confidently.
Kevin nods. "Very well." He grabs a monster from his hand and places it face down defense position. He switches Speed Warrior to defense position and ends his turn.
"Now, I activate my facedown trap card, 'Gift Offering'," Yusei says. "Because you control two monsters and I control none, I can steal one of your monsters until the end of my next turn." Speed Warrior takes off and goes to his side.
What is he planning, Kevin wonders.
Yusei draws and he smiles.
Yusei: 3
Kevin/Luna: 3
"I summon out Junk Synchron." His monster appears with 1300 attack and 500 defense points.
"He's going for a synchro summon!" Luna explains.
"I tune my level three Junk Synchron with your level two Speed Warrior- Gathering stars will call upon a new force! become the path it's light shines upon! Synchro summon; show yourself, Junk Warrior." Junk Synchron pulls on his level and shines to form three green rings. They surround Speed Warrior which outlines it into yellow stars. A white light engulfs it and Junk Warrior takes flight with 2300 attack points and 1300 defense points.
"Yep, of course," Kevin confirms.
"I'm sorry Kevin, but I plan to use full force. I got to win in order to face off against Jack and I won't let anybody stop me."
Well, this is going to be tough, Luna says.
"Junk Warrior, attack their facedown monster!" Yusei declares. Junk Warrior shoots out to the sky and heads to Kevin and Luna's monster. "I also activate my trap ', Strike Slash'." Junk Warrior's attack rise to 3000.
"Oh, no. This is bad," Luna tells Kevin.
"Why?" He asks confused, "If our monster is in defense mode."
"His trap card inflicts piercing damage," She clarifies. Junk Hedgehog reveals and Yusei's warrior takes it out.
"Haaaaa, "Luna exclaims.
[Kevin/Luna Life Points=2000]
Speed Counter: 1
Yusei easily passes Kevin and Luna as their Duel Runner goes spinning backward.
"Kevin and Luna have taken a lashing!" The Announcer says. "They're spinning out, they're gonna-wait, no. Kevin's managed to gain control!"
"You okay, Luna?" Kevin asks her as the smoke clears.
She nods. "Yeah, I'm okay."
"That attack has forced the dream-team couple to shift gears and their game-plan! The 2000 points of damage have cost them two of their Speed Counters they have gained so far."
"Hopefully Kevin and Luna are able to fight back," Yanagi says back on the stands. Besides him, Tanner nods with arms crossed.
"I'm sure they will gramps."
Junk Warrior's attack points now return to normal. "Time to fight back," Kevin says drawing a card.
Kevin/Luna: 2
Yusei: 4
He smiles looking at the card he drew. Speed Synchron…
"Let's do this," Luna agrees.
"We summon out Speed Synchron, and when it's successfully normal summoned, I can special summon Speed Warrior from the graveyard." Yusei grins fully knowing what's about to come.
Speed Synchron lights up. He transforms into two circular green rings that surround Speed Warrior. His body glows in a yellow outline and is replaced by two stars. "I tune my level two Speed Synchron with my level two Speed Warrior- Two warriors evolve and become something much greater; Synchro summon, QuickFlash Warrior!" A white light shoots out beside Kevin and Luna, and from it, QuickFlash Warrior takes flight with 1800 attack and defense points.
"And on the turn, he is summoned, his attack points are doubled," Luna reminds them. "Now, his attack points are 3600."
"Look at that, the dream team couple has summoned a powerful monster to even out the odds," The Announcer states.
"I activate QuickFlash Warrior's effect. By removing from play Speed Synchron, Speed Warrior, and Junk Hedgehog, his attack points rise up to 3900," Kevin says as the crowd begins to chant. "Kevin and Luna! Kevin and Luna!"
"QuickFlash Warrior, attack his Junk Warrior with double speed spin attack!" His warrior takes off and prepares to strike, but Yusei activates his trap card.
"I use 'Miracle Locus'. For the price of you drawing a card, my warrior gains 1000 attack points this turn," Yusei tells as Kevin suspiciously draws a card from his deck.
"Even so, QuickFlash Warrior has 600 more points than Junk Warrior," Kevin counters.
Why would he go through all the effort of increasing his monster's attack and giving us a card if, in the end, our warrior still has attack points? Luna questions confused.
Hmmm. Interesting. Junk Warrior tries to defend, but Quickflash warrior kicks it effortlessly and Yusei's monster shatters.
[Yusei's LP: 3400]
"And Yusei has taken damage!" The Announcer exclaims. "Kevin has pulled off a miraculous move, but Yusei has managed to decrease the damage dealt. For that, he doesn't lose any speed counters."
That's why; he needs those speed counters for something.
"At the end of the battle phase, I can return those removed from play monsters to my deck and I get to draw two cards." Kevin smiles. "We end our turn with a facedown card."
"And at the end of our turn, QuickFlash Warrior's attack increases by 600 due to the damage that was dealt to you," Luna adds as their monster's attack increases to 2400.
"Nice moves, Kevin," Yusei compliments and he draws a card. "My turn."
Yusei: 5
Kevin/Luna: 3
"I activate my trap card; 'Synchro Spirits'. By removing a synchro monster in my graveyard from play, I can re-summon the monsters that were used for the synchro summon earlier in the duel. Come on out, Junk Synchron." His machine-type monster appears with 1300 attack and 500 defense points. "Next, I summon out Tuningware in attack mode." A small creature with a yellow scarf around it's neck appears with 100 attack and 300 defense points. "Next, I tune my Junk Synchron to my Tuningware!" Junk Synchron again flies into the sky, its three rings spin down to with Tuningware and its one star. "I synchro summon- Armory Arm!" A red spiky hand appears with 1800 attack and 1200 defense points.
"What are you planning Yusei" Kevin wonders to himself.
"Another level four synchro… Interesting," Luna says as she examines the card on her screen.
"You'll see. I'll activate Tuningware's special ability. Since it was used as a synchro material, I can draw one card from my deck." He does and grins.
"Was that a smile?" Dexter asks back at the stands.
"Yes," Tanner confirms. "He's going to make a big move."
"I activate the 'Synchro Return' Speed Spell," Yusei says playing it. "As long as I have five or more speed counters. I can use this spell card to summon a synchro monster that I just removed. So say hello to my Junk Warrior!"
"Oh… I see what he is doing," Luna tells Kevin. "That's why he kept his speed counters." Junk Warrior appears again with 2300 attack and 1300 defense points.
"Next, I activate Armory Arm's special ability," Yusei says.
"Oh, no," Luna whispers.
"Now, my Junk Warrior gains a thousand more attack points!" Junk Warrior puts on Armory Arm; its attack points rise to 3300. "And with that boost, my Junk Warrior is stronger than your QuickFlash Warrior. So you know what's next! Junk Warrior; attack!"
"This is it, if this attack connects, it might be over for the dream-team couple," The Announcer says very worried.
Junk Warrior soars down on QuickFlash Warrior, which prepares to fight back. It's about to try a last-ditch kick when it finds itself confronted instead with a huge golden clawed hand. It squeezes it down to the size of a tin can and destroys it.
[Kevin/Luna LP: 1100]
Kevin and Luna endure the strong winds and Yusei continues, "And I activate Armory Arm's special ability. And that means that this duel is over! I'm sorry Kevin and Luna, but one of us was going to have to lose today, and it looks like that someone is you two!" Armory Arm grips Kevin and Luna, and their duel runner, and the air around them explodes. They are riding through a blinding world of golden light.
"And this duel is over! The dream-" The Announcer gets interrupted by Kevin's voice.
"Not on my watch Yusei." The bright golden light turns white and it vanishes to show Princess Star on the field.

Yusei's surprised by what has happened.
"I activated the trap card 'Princess Savior', which has saved us the lost, but that's not all; Princess Star has joined the party," Kevin explains. Kevin points a finger at him, "If you think we will lose that easily, you're in for a treat."
The crowd cheers as the Announcer exclaims, "Look at that! The dream-team couple has survived Yusei's massive attack! They're down to two speed counters; how will they come back?"
"That was close one Kevin," Luna says relieved. Kevin glances at her and sees her tired.
"Yeah, you okay though?" He asks concerned.
"Yeah, just a bit tired, but I'll be okay." Kevin sees her relax and he nods. "We got this!"
"I end my turn with two facedown cards," Yusei says. "And by the end of my turn. Due to the speed spell- 'Synchro Return'; Junk Warrior is removed from play." Junk Warrior disappears and Armory Arm is destroyed.
Kevin puts his hand on top of his deck and he closes his eyes. "Let's do this then! Draw!"
Kevin/Luna: 3
Yusei: 6
He puts the card on his cardholder. "Due to the effect of Princess Star, during my standby phase, this card is returned to my deck, but I chain that with my facedown trap, 'Princess Retaliation'."
*With "Princess Retaliation" if your Life points are below 1000, you can tribute "Princess" card(s) on your side of the field to gain life points equal to their attack or defense points.
Princess Star disappears. "By tributing Princess Star, our life points increase by 2400!"
[Kevin/Luna's LP= 2600]
"Nice, they're back in the game," Tanner says.
"Even so, they are without a monster," Yanagi adds.
"Don't worry Gramps, I'm sure they will do something to turn the table around."
Nice Kevin, Luna compliments. Now, let's bring down Yusei.
Kevin smiles. "From the grave, Princess Star's effect activates; by removing her from play, we can special summon QuickFlash Warrior back to the game. Come on out!"
Their monster takes flight once more with 1800 attack and defense points. "Now, we double QuickFlash Warrior's attack to 3600."
I'm worried about those two facedown cards, Kevin, Luna tells him. "We should attack him with another monster first.
He nods in agreement and grabs a monster from his cardholder. "Come on out, 'Princess Tamer' in attack mode!" A cute little girl with green ponytails and red bows on them appears with 1500 attack points and 600 defense points. "Princess Tamer attack Yusei directly!" A spear appears on her hand and she throws it at Yusei. Upon contact, it explodes and Yusei's duel runner begins to swirl, but he regains control.

SP: 5
The crowd cheers. "Kevin and Luna!"
"And look at that! Yusei has taken a direct attack which has cost him a speed counter," The Announcer exclaims. "If the next attack hits, Yusei's fortune cup is all but over."
It won't hit, Luna tells Kevin.
I know, he agrees. "QuickFlash Warrior, attack Yusei with double speed spin attack!" Kevin's warrior flies off into the air and prepares to strike. Just at contact with Yusei, he declares, "I activate 'Spirit Force'. The battle damage is reduced to zero and I can add one warrior-type monster from my graveyard to my hand." He puts Junk Synchron back in his hand.
"And Yusei has saved himself for another turn," The Announcer says. "What a showdown it has been."
"I'm not going down that easily, Kevin," Yusei says.
"Of course not," he smiles as Kevin's QuickFlash Warrior attack points return to normal.
"I place a card facedown. That does it for now."
"I know you two are fighting to get Kevin's memory back, but remember, we got something in common; we are all for our own. Now, it's my turn. I draw!"
Yusei: 6
Kevin/Luna: 3
Yusei grins. "I summon out Massive Warrior." A small rock-like creature with a border as a shield on his hands appears with 600 attack points and 1200 defense points He looks at a card on his cardholder and thinks for a bit. He grabs it. "This is for Rally and the rest of my pals. I summon Turbo Booster in attack mode." A yellow machine appears with boosters hands and 0 attack and defense points. "Now Massive Warrior attack Kevin's QuickFlash Warrior!"
"What is he doing? Kevin's monster has way more attack points!" Dexter exclaims in confusion.
"With Turbo Booster's special ability, you see by releasing this card, I can take down a monster of yours as long as it's fighting against one of mine." Massive Warrior hops on Turbo Booster's boosters and it shoots him towards QuickFlash Warrior.
"But because of the battle, you will still take damage," Kevin says with a grin.
"No," Luna disagrees. "Massive Warrior makes Yusei's battle damage turn to zero."
"What?!" QuickFlash Warrior tries to defend.
"I release Turbo Booster!" Yusei exclaims as Massive Warrior smashes into Kevin's QuickFlash Warrior.
"Woah! Talk about a comeback," The Announcer says.
"I end my turn with a facedown card," Yusei says. The crowd then begins to cheer once again. "Kevin and Luna! Kevin and Luna!"
"The crowd is going wild." The Announcer looks around. "Can the dream-team couple pull out an unexceptional move now with their ace monster gone?!"
Kevin glances at Luna who gives him a soft smile. You're falling asleep, aren't you?
Yeah, but I'll be okay. Take him down, my boyfriend.
Kevin smiles back and nods. He draws from his deck. "Our turn then!"
Kevin/Luna: 5
Yusei: 7
"From our hand, we special summon The Tricky Trickster in attack mode."
*Introducing 'The Tricky Trickster'; You can special summon this card from your hand, but it can't attack the turn it is special summoned.
"Now, I activate its effect. By discarding a level two or lower monster from hand, its level decreases by the same amount until it leaves the field," Kevin explains as he discards Kuribon from his cardholder. "Now go, Princess Tamer, attack Massive Warrior." Once again, a spear appears in her hand and she throws it at Yusei's monster. Just as it's about to hit it, Yusei activates a trap card.
"I activate 'Card Defense'. By discarding a card, I can negate your attack and draw one more card." He discards Shield Warrior and a blue shield wraps around Massive Warrior. Princess Tamer's spear is repelled away. He draws and smiles.
"Yusei was able to save his life points for one more turn," The Announcer tells.
Kevin groans putting one more card facedown. "That is it."
"It's my move then." Yusei draws a card.
Yusei: 8
Kevin/Luna: 6
"I activate 'Speed Spell- Angel Baton'. If I have 2 or more speed counters, I'm able to draw two cards, but must send one to the graveyard." He draws and then discards Quillbolt Hedgehog. "Now, it's time that I level up the playing field. From my hand, I summon Hyper Synchron in attack mode." A blue machine type monster with thrusters on his back appears with 1600 attack and 800 defense points.
Kevin… Luna softly says. Kevin knows and declares, "I activate Princess Tamer's effect. Once per turn, I can copy a tuner from your side of the field." A staff appears in her hand and she raises it up. It glows and she transforms into a replica of Yusei's Hyper Synchron with 1600 attack points and 800 defense points.
"It makes no difference because now, I activate Quillbolt Hedgehog's effect from the graveyard. If I control a tuner monster, I can special summon it back to my field." A small yellow furry creature with bolts and nuts on its back appears with 800 attack and defense points.
"Hum. Guys, I think I know where this is going," Dexter says alerted.
"Yep, he's going to synchro summon his ace," Tanner agrees.
"I tune my Quillbolt Hedgehog and my Massive Warrior with Hyper Synchron in order to synchro summon"- Hyper Synchron turns to four green rings that surround Yusei's other two monsters. Their bodies glow in a yellow outline and are replaced by four stars. A white light shoots besides Yusei and a very beautiful dragon appears with 2500 attack and 2100 defense points. "Meet my friend, Stardust Dragon!" It's wings shimmer in the bright sunlight; raining glitter through the air. "Let's rev it up!"
Yusei's red mark begins to glow as well as Kevin's and Luna's blue marks.
"Oh…" Luna says softly as Kevin looks at his mark too.
"My mark," Yusei says surprised.
"In all my years of broadcasting, I have never seen a monster like this!" The Announcer says excitedly. "If you are watching from home, 'do not' adjust your screen! It's as unbelievable as it appears."
"That's his dragon," Yanagi points out."That's the card that Jack gave 'im."
Up in the tower, Jack's mark also appears; he gasps with surprise. Goodwin turns his head slightly to look at Jack.
"That's incredible," Kevin says in disbelief. "How are we going to beat that dragon?"
We can, Luna reminds him softly. Our facedown.
Kevin realizes. "Of course."
"Since Hyper Synchron was used as a synchro material; Stardust dragon gains 800 attack points. Stardust Dragon; attack his version of Hyper Synchron with Cosmic Flare, and I also play my facedown trap, 'Synchro Blast'; which inflicts 500 points of damage to you." The card reveals and a ray of red light comes out of it and hits Kevin and Luna.
[Kevin/Luna's LP: 2100]
Stardust Dragon takes a deep breath and shoots out a white beam of light from its mouth to Kevin's and Luna's Hyper Synchron, but Kevin activates a trap card. "I play my 'Urgent Tuning' trap card which lets me synchro summon during your battle phase."
"Hmm… "
Kevin grabs the card that he found in his duel runner earlier when he and his girlfriend were doing maintenance.
"What's this?" Luna had asked him.
"It's a synchro dragon card. Found it in the field spell slot of our duel runner," He had told her.
"A piece of your past. Any memories from it; anything?"
Kevin had shaken his head in disappointment. "No, but it's hope."
Earlier that morning, they didn't have any way of defeating Yusei. They barely knew him besides that duel he had with Hunter Pace. Besides what they now knew about his way of dueling and that new dragon synchro card, they now had a little bit of hope.
"I tune The Tricky Trickster with my Hyper Synchron-" Kevin's monster glows and becomes four circular green rings. They surround The Tricky Trickster and glows into a yellow outline. It turns to four stars. "From the past memories of clustered hope, a new horizon shines bright." A white light shoots beside him and Luna. "Synchro Summon; take flight! Junk Blue Delta Dragon!" Kevin and Luna's mark glow brighter and a mechanized dragon with eyes of a blue moon takes flight and roars, shaking the surroundings around, with 2700 attack points and 2300 defense points.
"Woah," Yusei says astonished. The crowd is in awe with Kevin's and Luna's newest monster.
"The dream-team couple have pulled out an under-the-move synchro summon to something spectacular," The Announcer exclaims. "Will Yusei counteract that now? Let's watch!"
"Nice," Luna whispers. Kevin smiles and continues.
"Due to your Hyper Synchron's effect, my dragon gains 800 more attacks. Junk Blue Delta Dragon glows in blue light as its attack raises to 3500. It roars for the gain of strength.
"Stardust Dragon, attack his dragon with Cosmic Flare!" Yusei declares.
"Get ready, people; these two dragons are about to battle!" The Announcer points out.
"I activate my Speed Spell- 'Silver Contrails', by removing one of my speed counters, I'm able to increase Stardust's attack by 1000 until the end of my turn." Yusei's speed counters decrease to 7 and Stardust Dragon roars as its attack increases to 4300.
"Oh, hold on Luna," Kevin warns her.
"I'm ready," she reassures him. Stardust Dragon takes a deep breath and shoots out a white beam of light to Kevin's dragon. "Shooting Sonic!"
It hits Kevin's dragon and the explosion makes Kevin and Luna's duel runner swirl to the left and to the right.
"Hmm!"
[Kevin/Luna's LP: 1300]
"And he's hit," The Announcer comments. "Luckily, due to the effect of Hyper Synchron, his dragon is not destroyed."
Yusei sets a card facedown ending his turn.
"I'm okay, Kevin," she says as Stardust Dragon's attack points return to 3300. "Let's finish this."
"With Pleasure. It's our turn! We draw!"
Kevin's/Luna: 9
Yusei: 8
"Hum, did you guys see that?" Dexter asks as Kevin draws his card.
"You mean Kevin activating a trap card right when Yusei activated his spell? Then yep," Tanner agrees.
He grabs a speed spell. "I play, 'Junk Absolute Destruction', Speed Spell."
*Introducing "Speed Spell- Junk Absolute Destruction", If you have 8 or more Speed Counters, you can destroy all cards on the field. If a "Junk" monster(s) is destroyed by this effect, your opponent gains life points equal to the "Junk" monster(s) destroyed.
"As long as I have 8 or more speed counters, I can destroy all cards on the field."
Yusei raises his eyebrows surprised and realizes Kevin's speed counters. "But how?"
"Right when you activated 'Silver Contrails', I played 'Slip Stream' which copied your speed Counters to me," Kevin explains. Junk Blue Delta Dragon roars as it begins to glow.
"I won't let you," Yusei negates. "I activate Stardust's effect. When a card is used to destroy other cards, I can release it to negate yours and destroy it." Stardust Dragon roars and goes to Kevin's dragon. Its wings begin to cover the dragon to negate their destruction.
Then Yusei sees it all. The way the duel is going to end. As soon as Stardust Dragon leaves the field with Kevin's dragon, he'll play his face down card; "Cosmic Blast", which will deal damage equal to his dragon's attack. "It's all over."
Kevin smiles.
"Did he just smile?" Dexter points out. "Kevin just smiled right?"
"Yep," Tanner agrees. "It's all over."
"I'm sorry, Yusei, but I activate Junk Blue Delta Dragon's effect. By returning a level two or lower monster from my graveyard to my hand, I can negate your Stardust Dragon's effect," Kevin tells him. He grabs QuickFlash Warrior and puts it back to his extra deck. His dragon glows bright and expels Stardust Dragon's shimmering white wings away.
"Luna," he calls her. She smiles and plays a trap card. "This duel is over. I play 'Bad Reactions to Simochi'; any effect that increases your life points are reversed so with Junk Absolute Destruction, you take damage equal to Junk Blue Delta Dragon's attack points."
Their dragon roars and begins to shine a blue light. It explodes and a blue wave of light hits Yusei's dragon and also shatters.
[Yusei's LP= 0]
"And it's over!" The Announcer exclaims. "After 11 turns of non-stop action; our winners are Kevin and Luna!"
