Update: June 9, 2022

Whoops! I made a continuity error where i accidentally switch from the POVs of Six to Nine within the same chapter. If you didn't notice that, goodie for you. If you did, you'll probably notice I fixed it now: That's cuz this chapter originally used to be narrated by Nine, but each chapter was much shorter. Sorry Nine, you aren't coming along for a while.

Nine: "Fine.."

" Wait...did you let that FREAK FIVE narrate BEFORE me?

Techno: "Uhmmm..."

Nine: "I'm gonna throw you off this roof!"

Techno: "Byehaveanicedayreaders" *teleports away*

Sorry guys I have this little thing called extra credit summer school so I won't be updating this summer. Sorry! :(

POV: Number Six:

I guess you could call me a normal teenage girl…Well…aside from the fact that I'm an alien with superpowers whose main job is to protect Earth from invasion, from other aliens…I guess you could say that. My name's Maren Elizabeth. Or at least, that's my human name. Everyone I know just calls me Six. As in the number. I don't know my real, Loric name, and none of my friends, the other Loric kids in on this with me, know theirs either, so they've all taken on fake human names. Except for Number Ten, who's real Loric name is Ella. She's a special case though.

When I was just four years old, the Mogadorian Empire came to peaceful idyllic Lorien, our home planet. The Loric were utterly defenceless -it was slaughter. No one survived, except for nine kids, and their adopted caregivers called Cêpan, the people to help them develop powers. They all went to Earth together as refugees, before spreading out so the Mogadorians couldn't track them down to Earth. Later, we found out that another young girl named Ella, or Number 10, survived and came to Earth as well, with her Cêpan, Crayton.

You're probably wondering how a planet full of people with superpowers got decimated so easily. By a race with inferior technology, as a matter of fact. There are three reasons. Firstly, the Mogs outnumbered us Loric by a huge amount, and no technology could help us with that. Secondly, the Loric were a peaceful people, and had largely forgotten about weapons and warfare. Lastly, and most importantly, the Loric are divided into two groups of people. There are the Garde, people like me with different powers like weather control, super speed, teleportation, whatever. They were responsible for protecting the planet if necessary, but before the Mogs came around, there wasn't really a point of the Garde. They also helped with very specialised jobs that required Legacies, like if you had super strength, you'd be a very useful help for construction projects, you'd be a great scuba diver if you could breathe underwater, are also the Cêpan, who are people who ran the planet's government, and sort of did all the administrative stuff. Things that didn't require powers. When the Mogs came along, however, the few Cêpan that survived, were left in charge of protecting the future of Lorien, the nine Garde that (officially) made it off the planet. Unlike the Garde, the Cêpan were totally defenceless when the Mogadorians came. At least the Garde had powers. Cêpan, like my Cêpan Katarina, didn't. Now, there's just one Cêpan left as far as we know. Number Four, who we call John, his Cêpan, Henri, is still with us. And we hope he stays with us. All the rest of the Cêpan were killed by Mog attacks on Earth. They've already got three of the Garde as well, numbers One to Three.

Our job is to save Earth now. Because the Mogadorians have followed us all the way here, and want to drain Earth of its valuable natural resources. They don't care about innocent lives. They don't care that humanity, despite being technologically inferior, outnumber them, and will fight back very hard. In the end, they will do to humanity what was done to the Loric twelve years ago. Even if we win, it's still not over. We'll have to go all the way back to Lorien and rebuild our planet. Kinda hard when you're stuck on a planet whose dominant civilization is about a century from faster than light travel, and your only spaceships are irreparably damaged. Supposedly there were other aliens hiding out on Earth who might be able to help us - Henri told us that since Earth was known to the galactic community, it became a place of refuge for aliens fleeing conflicts because it was so far away from most centres of galactic trade. But we're not betting on finding other aliens. At least we weren't. Until one crash landed almost right on top of us yesterday. The weird thing that happened yesterday, while very cool, makes things a lot more complicated.

One Day Earlier: Florida Everglades

It was hot. It was humid. It was the middle of nowhere in a swamp. Not the greatest conditions for a girl used to living in major cities. But I've been through worse, so I didn't complain. It wasn't as if I couldn't summon my own personal bubble of good weather when I needed to, so actually, I was pretty good. I still didn't appreciate the long journey though, and I flat out wouldn't have come if we weren't here for a good reason. This little mission was to help Five retrieve his Loric Chest that he'd buried somewhere around here to prevent Mogs getting it. For reference, a Loric Chest is basically a literal treasure chest that each of the nine official Garde got when leaving Lorien, only instead of being filled with gold coins and jewels and stuff you'd see in pirate movies, these chests have a few magic items in them, mostly different from Garde to Garde. A lot of these items had turned out to be useful, like a stone that could transfer different Legacies to different Garde, or two cubes that gave you food and water, and glasses that could see a minute into the future. A few were just weird though, like this random black colour changing piece of cloth we found in Eight's Loric Chest. Only Eight can even make it change colour at all. Otherwise, as far as we know, it does nothing at all.

Anyways, back to the swamp. When Five was steering the boat and telling us where to go,

I notice something weird. Really really weird. And unsettling: There were very very few animals here. I guess Nine noticed it too. He can talk to animals, like John can. Maybe because Nine's part monkey, part pig, I wouldn't know.

"Nine, what are they saying?"

"There aren't a lot of animals here, but what few animals there are..they're telling me to leave this place as quickly as possible."

"Um, guys, I think there's something wrong"

"I sense it too", Eight said, in an uncharacteristically quiet voice. He wasn't looking forward...rather looking...up? What bad things came from up? Spaceships. Mogadorian warships. Just then, I heard a high pitched whining noise from above. Very faint but it was getting louder. And there was a weird speck in the sky trailing blue light...blue? Mogadorian ships never emitted blue light. And whatever this was, was a lot smaller than a Mogadorian craft. Only Loric craft emitted blue trails. Almost looked similar to a Loric craft actually, but it was hard to tell.

"What the heck is that thing?", Five said. Before I could make a snide remark, the speck got bigger, and it became clear that this was neither a Loric or Mogadorian craft. This ship was blue and steel grey, looked ovaloid, and looked about the size of a school bus. Pretty small for a spaceship. It looked kind of cute and harmless actually. Except for what looked like a weapon blaster arching from the back, right over the ship, looking like a scorpion's tail. That gave me the creeps and that was something, because it takes a lot to get me scared. And then Nine said the word on everyone's mind.

"Aliens."
