Jordan hopped out of her car and rolled her eyes. Just her luck she'd pull Seely's case. Her symptoms had been manageable, and Garret was allowing her to go out on assignment as long as she had her babysitter with her, who was, in this case, a very grumpy Bug. He had just walked in the door when Macy told him to pack up and head out with Jordan, poor guy hadn't even gotten his first cup of coffee for the day.
"What do we got?" Jordan called over the commotion. People were already crowding around while the police set the perimeter, and rush hour was in full swing.
"Looks like a hit and run, car vs. bike. Bike lost." Seely snapped his notebook shot, his smug grin permanently fixed on his face.
"Nice." Jordan set her bag down and rummaged around for her box of gloves.
Seely watched her closely and she was just about to tell him off when he smirked, "So, what poor bastard should I offer my condolences—I mean congratulations to?" He sneered, nodding to her hand.
Jordan followed his line of sight and saw the simple gold band that encircled her ring finger. Her hand was resting just so on her bag that it caught the first light of the day, glittering and teasing the eye.
She snatched up a fresh pair of gloves and quickly pulled them on, "Don't you have a job to do?" She asked, sighing when she noticed Bug trying to sneak a peek. Seely grinned and nodded for her to follow after him.
Her eyes kept wandering to the slight bulge on her left glove and she couldn't help the small smile.
Her and Nigel had been enjoying a lazy Saturday morning, filled with old movies and whatever junk food they wanted, when she jokingly asked if he wanted to get married on Sunday as a last hurrah before her surgery. She'd begun to laugh as she turned to him, only to find him with a wily grin in place. He'd asked her if she was serious and she shrugged, but soon smiled, and answered, "I guess I am." They snuck off to New York that hour and put in for the license. They spend the night in the city, enjoying a small honeymoon of sorts. Jordan knew she wanted to wear his mom's ring and they found a ring for Nigel in a pawnshop. By the next night they were before the judge and had made things official.
It was crazy, and senseless, and completely perfect.

Nigel typed furiously, but his thought broke off when the sunlight caught the ring he wore. The band was black and embossed with a row of small, antique-silver fleurs-de-lis, two circlets of silver were set along the ring's outer edges. He wore rings often and one more didn't draw any more attention than his usual ostentatious appearance already did, but he felt a bit giddy at their little secret and was dying for someone to ask about it. That they had snuck off like some besotted Romeo and Juliet was one of Nigel's new favorite memories and he couldn't wait to share the news.
Though, their spontaneous nuptials, along with Eilís' impending arrival, would most likely be kept hush until after Jordan's surgery, just so they didn't have to deal with the additional office hubbub.
Still, it was one of the few good things to come out of this impending week, and he was going to hold onto it for as long as he could.
"Here is the Johnson report you were looking for." Kate said as she flung open the doors and handed it off. Her brow popped up, "What is that?" She nodded to his hand.
"Well, in Latin, it's a circulus. In English, though, they call it a ring." He winked, turning back to his screen.
She glowered, her nosed turned up, "It's hideous, I'd ask for my money back."
"Good thing you don't have to wear it then, Katey-Kat."
Kate practically gagged and turned towards the door, leaving a very amused coworker in her wake. Nigel chuckled, "I'm growing on her."

"Did you see she's wearing a ring?" Bug whispered, looking over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't overheard.
Lily nodded, biting her lower lip to keep back her smile, "Nigel has one on too. Kate was going on about it in the break room."
"You don't think…"
Lily just shrugged, letting out a small groan as the baby kicked. She sat at Nigel's desk, waiting for Bug to finish up so they could head to lunch.
"What are you two yammering about?" Garret asked, pulling his glasses off as he tossed a folder in Nigel's inbox.
"Did you see that they are wearing rings?" Lily leaned forward, whispering as if it were some grand secret, even though the whole office was atwitter with their latest discovery.
Garret hummed, sorting through the files for his next stop, "I can't believe he managed to get her to say yes let alone go through with it."
"Actually," Nigel popped up, startling them all and loving every minute of it, "She asked me." He kissed Lily lightly on the head before grabbing his incoming and heading out, whistling as he went.
Lily laughed, Bug gaped in completely disbelief, while Garret just shook his head, really wishing he could have that Scotch now.
