Appreciating him allowing her to work out the details before sharing any information; Olivia puts down her phone as she looks at Quinn and Huck sitting across from her.
She takes a breath and says, "Sorry, where were we?" Quinn replies, "We were just discussing our theory of the crime and the possible connection to Cy and Michael's deaths." Olivia says, "I can't believe we are talking about this. It feels unreal.
Huck responds, "You have to admit there's a connection here Liv." She agrees, given what he's discovered it appears there's a definite connection. But still, something doesn't feel right; she just can't put her finger on what it is that feels off. So she says, "Okay, lay this out for me one more time Huck."
He nods as he says, "I ran Warren's financials. He was up to his eyeballs in child support and alimony payments, almost about to lose his shirt, up to about three months ago. When he suddenly paid off all of his debts, and right now he has a closing bank balance of 200,000." Olivia's eyebrows raise in response to his comment, as she responds, "That's a hell of a bank balance for a beat reporter."
Quinn adds, "Agreed. And what's more interesting is that influx of cash didn't occur until after he met with Jordan Banks, a former B613 agent." Olivia closes her eyes as she processes her response and says, "Which implicates either my father or Jake had something to do with his murder."
Huck nods as he replies, "My money is on Jake. Because he trained Jordan. So, he'd have loyalty toward him, and be willing to do whatever he asked."
Olivia tries to figure out what's going on as she says, "This is so twisted. Why would he want to kill Warren though? Is he just trying to make my life hell, or what?" Quinn responds, "While that wouldn't exactly be beyond him. It wasn't his sole mission, it's just a bonus. It's really about the beefs with both Fitz and Rowan."
Huck agreeably replies, "She's right. Ever since Fitz and Jake went a few rounds, and Jake came out terribly on the wrong side of that battle. While in recovery, he's been pissed off at the world. And started calling in favors, trying to get back at Fitz.
One chip he tried to call in was Cyrus." Olivia finds this interesting as she inquires, "What did he want with Cyrus?" Huck replies, "He told him if he didn't flip on Fitz, and give him something he could use against him. He would tell Fitz that Cy knew about Rowan's plot to kill Jerry."
Olivia is confused by this information as she responds, "When did Jake find out about that? He's never mentioned that before; he surely would've said something to Fitz when they spoke during his last visit, if that was the case." Quinn chimes in, "I agree. I found that strange too. Until I noticed his first visit when he was released from the infirmary was a female named Amelia Rivers." The name strikes Olivia instantly as she pauses and says, "Oh my God. You can't be serious."
Quinn responds, "I wish I wasn't Liv." When Quinn puts the photo of Amelia Rivers on the table, confirming she's none other than Olivia's mother, Maya. She groans, "Damn it mom; I'll be dammed, She just couldn't help herself." They both pause, giving her a second to process what they've shared so far. And, she appreciates it.
Olivia thinks, her mother thought she was slick, using the name of a fictional character Olivia created in one of her stories she wrote as a child. Its then that Olivia realizes her mother used that character, because she knew she'd figure out it was her. She wanted her to know she was involved in this. She just doesn't know the reason she wanted her to know.
After processing her thoughts, she looks at Huck and Quinn and says, "I can't believe she did this; but, then again, it reeks of something she would do." They see the angst she has on her face, and Quinn feels for her, but knows she can handle it.
After settling her nerves and her mind, Olivia confirms what she knows so far as she says, "So my mother goes to the prison to visit Jake. After she undoubtedly somehow finds out about the rift between him and my father. And, she what? Gives him the resources he needs to get back at him?"
Huck replies, "In a manner of speaking; yes. She turned over her contacts to the outside world to him. And, he took her help gladly. Because upon his release from the prison hospital ward, he was all but forgotten by Rowan. Leaving him to feel like a fool for how he he's backed him all of these years without question.
When he got out of the infirmary, a couple of inmates told him Rowan called him weak for being beat up by Fitz. And he said by taking that beating, he basically allowed Fitz to make him his bitch once again; like he did leaving him to take the blame for Operation Remington."
Olivia shakes her head as she says, "Oh boy. I'm sure that went over well. My dear old dad surely knows how to put the screws to you." Huck nods as he replies, "Right. About as well as could be expected. Beyond that, Jake was put in a different segment after release and Rowan wouldn't agree to see him." Olivia, sorting out how this was unfolding says, "So he shunned him, leaving him vulnerable, angry, and alone. Making him right for the taking by my mother."
Quinn nots as she says, "You've got it. It was a basic warfare tactic that would've worked to break Jake. If he didn't have your mother's resources to fall back on, and a few loyal folks inside and outside the prison walls to execute his plan."
Huck agrees as he responds, "Honestly, it was some of those allies he has inside the prison that helped him the most. They told him your father's main reason for shunning him was because of him interfering with his master plan, designed to take down the Grant Administration."
Olivia abruptly asks, "What exactly was his plan?" Huck replies, "Basically, Rowan found out that Jake was attempting to blackmail Cyrus, because he was pissed about Fitz beating him down. But, Cyrus wouldn't give in; so he was going to have him killed." Olivia exclaims, "All because he lost a fist fight he started?" Huck shrugs his shoulders as he responds, "Yup. It was a matter of pride." Olivia replies, "What a fucking coward." Huck answers, "Agreed."
Olivia then says, "So, Cyrus refuses to capitulate to his demands, Jake then puts a hit on him. But, Cyrus beats him to it by committing suicide." Quinn replies, "Exactly, but Jake doesn't
