chapter 7 Wing's to recovery part 1

The mutants at the Xavier institute for the gifted were training hard and all were good friends. But soon their training and the friendship of two of the mutants would be put to the test.

Hannah Maxter and Warren Worthington III were very good friends they got along just fine. Warren really liked Hannah a lot she was very sweet and kind. She was good person and the most beautiful girl in the world in Warren's opinion beautiful inside and out. Hannah liked Warren quite a bit he was very sweet and kind, he was an amazing person and not like most rich boys she had met.

He was honest, loyal and generous, he was also quiet a fine looking young man too. Hannah smiled whenever she saw him.

Hannah and Warren did many things together like studying, training and playing video games. "Man you beat me again at this game that's I don't know 20 times since I got here at the school a few months back," Warren said.

"24," Hannah said. "4 times today," she said,

"Man your good," Warren said.

"Hannah beat you again Warren?" Pietro asked.

"Yep," Warren said.

"I thought you would be more mad about it," Pietro said.

"I'm not mad about it," Warren said. "I like playing Video games with Hannah," he added.

"I like playing Video games with Warren," Hannah said.

"Hey Hannah best out 10?" Warren asked.

"You're on," Hannah said. "Loser has to do the winner's chores for a week," she said.

"You're on," Warren said.

The others came in to watch.

"What's going on?" Professor X asked.

"Hannah and Warren are having a video game tournament, they made a bet on it they said who loses the most races out of ten has to do the winner's chores for a week," Jubilee said.

"Kids," Logan said.

Warren lost bet and now he has to do Hannah's chores for a week.

Once the week was over not much was happening. Hannah was looking at something. The animals were restless. "Hey Hannah we asked if you want to go to the mall," Jubilee said.

"Sorry Jubilee, Rogue and Jean, something is bothering me," Hannah said.

"What's up Hannah?" Rogue asked.

"The animals they picked up on something last night and have been restless ever since," Hannah said. "I think they know something is going to happen and it's not good," she said.

"What makes you say that?" Jubilee asked.

"It's been shown in studies of animals that they get restless when something bad is going to happen, or something is wrong," Hannah said.

"Yes I heard of that in my psychology class," Jean said. "I wonder what's bothering them," she said.

"Hey what's going on?" Warren asked.

"The animals are restless,' Hannah said.

"Yes I can see that," Warren said. "Prince my cockatoo won't settle down even when I drop the cover over his cage," he said. "That normally calms him down," he said.

"Come on guys maybe a trip to the mall can calm those nerves," Jubilee said.

"Yes good idea," Warren said.

"Okay I'm coming," Hannah said.

The other X-men were coming too because it was Saturday and there was not much to do. Plus they all had been training and studying hard lately so it was time for a break according to Professor X.

Hannah noticed more and more animals were acting up and being restless. Hannah found it hard to relax seeing what was going on.

"Hannah you seem distracted," Professor X said.

"Yes I suppose I am, it's just the animals they have been pretty restless today and they seem to be getting more and more restless by the minute and it's bothering me," Hannah said. "I even got a funny feeling something bad is going to happen," she said.

"Hannah it could be due to your connection with animals because of your powers maybe something may go wrong hopefully it will blow over quickly," Professor X said.

"Yes maybe the animals might be worried because a big destructive storm is coming I once saw that happen," Magnus said.

"Maybe that, but I am not sure," Hannah said.

Logan started to growl. "I smell something," he said. "I don't know who or what it is but all I know is I don't like it," he said.

Then something broke through the ceiling of the mall and all the people were running in panic. It was a large unidentified mutant. "I am Apocalypse," he said. "I am the most powerful and greatest among mutants I am here to find mutants to be my four horsemen," he said. "I already have three now I need one more," he said.

"Come on guys let's go change," Jean said.

Then they changed and came out the X-men were ready. They were ready to help stop this mutant known as Apocalypse. "You won't take these mutants if I have anything to say about it," Professor X said and used his power to cause one the mutants to be freed.

"Go run," Cyclops told her and she ran.

"You might get away but I will take something from you to get my horseman," Apocalypse said and sent something and girl shrieked and flew back to it's master with something in it.

Magneto worked on freeing the young man.

He was getting away to and the same thing happen and when the other was rescued by Angel.

Hannah was helping and got herself stuck. "Oh no," Wild heart said. "I'm stuck," she said.

"You all will pay for messing with me I shall make a sorry example of her," Apocalypse said.

Wild heart was scared and when suddenly Angel saved her and they crashed. Angel was badly hurt. "Angel?" Wild heart asked.

Angel was writhing in pain. Wild heart was going to fight back big time. Then she stood up and looked up at Apocalypse. "My friends of land, sky and waters come and help me," Wild heart said.

Then many animals came running and came to her. "Chase Apocalypse out of here," she said pointing.

The animals started to go after Apocalypse and were giving him trouble they were trying to get him to leave. "I will return not before I get a little something from that hero," he said and sent something that got some blood from Angel. Then he left.

All the animals left and the people and mutants were pretty scared after what happened. No else was hurt. Angel was writhing in pain still. "Call an ambulance," a man told his friend.

The paramedics came and loaded Warren on to the gurney and took him to the hospital. The other mutants that were rescued were taken to to be checked out. The X-men went to the hospital in their normal clothes to wait to hear on Warren's condition. Warren's parents came too. "It's my fault if I hadn't gotten stuck he wouldn't have gotten hurt," Hannah said.

"Hannah it's not your fault," Warren's mother said.

"Our son did the right thing saving you so quit blaming yourself." Warren's father said.

The doctor came out. "Warren Worthington III family and friends?" he said.

"That's us," Hannah said.

"He's going to be fine now he has three broke ribs, his left leg is broken, the right arm and right side of the collar bone are broken and his wings have fractures in several places," the doctor said.

"What do you suggest be done Dr. Olden?" Warren's mother asked.

"I can take care of the ribs, leg, arm and collar bone easily but his wings I don't know what to do," Dr. Olden said.

"I say they should be removed and he should be given the mutant cure while we are at it," said another doctor coming up. "As goes for the other mutants brought in." he said.

"Dr. Ecaved, we told you we don't want that treatment done to our boy before you know how many mutants have died from it, over 90% of them and the rest are permanently crippled and ill from it, so we won't have that done to our son," Warren's father said.

"But I am afraid we may have to amputate the wings, because if not taken care of the right way Warren could lose his ability to fly or it could be source of infection in the future," Dr. Olden said.

"How about we call in a specialist?" Hannah said.

"A specialist what kind of specialist are you suggesting?" Dr. Olden asked.

"A veterinarian an exotic veterinarian to be exact they treat birds and fix damaged wings of birds," Hannah said.

"Do you know any?" Dr. Olden asked.

"Yes my mother she's one of the best in the country many people from around the state of Texas and nearby states travel many hours for her help," Hannah said.

"Your mother maybe a vet but does she know how difficult the fractures in the wings look to fix?" Dr. Olden asked.

"Do you know anything about wing fractures?" Hannah asked. Hannah took out her smart phone and dialed. "Mom it's urgent we need you in New York," she said.

The Black bird brought Hannah's mother and father to New York. Hannah's mother came into the hospital and saw Warren in bed. "Okay let me see the wings," she said.

Hannah's mother started to examine Warren's wings. "Hmm definitely fractures in there judge by how they are dropping and dangling," she said. Then took out a scanner. "Okay the blood flow in the wings is a 100% normal which is a good sign the flow of blood has not been disrupted which is very good." she said. "Now let me see the X-rays," she said.

"Here they DVM Maxter," Dr. Olden said.

"Thank you," Hannah's mother said. She looked at the wing X-rays. "They can be fix and I have seen and repaired broken wings in worse condition than this." she said.

"So you can help him?" Warren's mother asked.

"Yes," Hannah's mother said.

"You look familiar," Warren's father said to Hannah's father.

"So do you Warren Worthington Jr?" Hannah's father asked.

"Yes and Kelly Maxter?" Warren's father said.

"It's good to see you old friend," Hannah's father said shaking Warren's father's hand.

"Good to see you too," Warren's father said.

"You two know each other?" Hannah asked.

"Of course we were roommates back in college," Hannah's father said. "I am sure my wife can help your boy," he said.

"I sure hope so," Warren's father said.

"So how are you going to fix the wings?" Dr. Olden asked.

"With External fixators, it will help the bones heal properly and be less invasive than internal fixators, but it must be done like it's done on animals or it won't work," Hannah's mother said. "I will do minor surgery to get the pins in and the put on the fixators and then we wait 8 weeks to see if the bones have healed properly," she said.

"Can you really help me?" Warren asked.

He had been pretty quiet since coming in the hospital.

"Yes I think so," Hannah's mother said. "So things will be just fine we should be able to get you into surgery soon and start." she said.

"That's a relief," Warren's mother said.

"Now we will check over his vitals and make sure he is fit enough for surgery." Dr. Olden said.

Everything was checked and it was good Warren was heading into surgery. The doctors put him under and went right to work. Hannah mother was doing it and explaining how it was done. She was being very careful there was several fractures in both wings. Then finally after over two hours of surgery the fixators were now in place.

"There we go all done," Hannah's mother said.

"Now let's get him back into his hospital room," Dr. Olden said.

Warren was back in his hospital bed still under the anesthesia. He was going to wake up soon. Right now he was dreaming.

To be continued.
