chapter 11 Hannah's niece
Everyone was wondering what was going on Professor X said there was going to be a visitor. They were wondering who it was. Hannah came in a bit later with a girl who look about eight years old. "Everyone I'd like you to meet my niece Nancy," Hannah said.
"Hello Nancy it's very nice to meet you," they said.
"Hi," Nancy said.
"Everyone Nancy's going to be staying here a few days because her parents are out of town and her regular babysitter and nanny both caught mono." Hannah said.
"Well she is most well come here I can assure you," Professor X said.
"She is welcome here and we all must keep an eye on her because as a father I know for a fact kids can get themselves into certain situations when no one is watching," Magneto said.
"Can I go play now Aunt Hannah?" Nancy asked.
"Yes," Hannah said.
Nancy scampered off to go play.
Things were going fine until a hour and half later. "What's going on with the lights?" Todd asked.
"Kitty did you phase through the fuse box again?" Pietro asked.
"No, it's not me," Kitty said.
"Then something must be going on," Jean said.
Hannah was wondering where Nancy went and was looking for her. Warren was helping her look and he found her in the attic and she looked pretty uncertain. "Hey Nancy what's going on?" Warren asked as he helped her up. He got shocked. "Ouch, did you rub your feet across the carpet?" he asked.
"No," Nancy said.
"Wore a heavy coat and swished around with it on?" Warren asked.
"No," Nancy said.
"Playing with something electric?" Warren asked hoping that wasn't it.
"No," Nancy said. Then electricity came from her hands. "It just happens and I have very little control over it," she said.
"Ah I see what is going on," Warren said. "I think we need to talk to the professor." he said.
They found Professor X talking to Magneto. Warren came in with Nancy who had a few pieces of fabric clinging to her. "Not again," she muttered.
"What's going on and why is Nancy covered is socks and fabric?" Professor X asked.
Hannah came in and saw and wondered what was going on and started to pull off the socks. Then she got shocked. "Man that's not a typical static shock," Hannah said. "That had some zing to it," she said.
"Sorry," Nancy said.
"Tell me what is going on," Professor X said.
"Nancy apparently was causing some the electric issues," Warren said.
"How did she do that?" Magneto asked.
"I am not meaning to," Nancy said. Then electricity came from her hands again. "I have very little control over it." she said.
"Nancy you are mutant and some develop mutant powers very early in life like you," Professor X explained.
"But I don't know how to control it, it just is causing more and more problems," Nancy said.
"It's going to be fine Nancy powers take time to learn to control," Magneto explained.
"When did it all start happening Nancy?" Professor X asked.
"It all started about a week ago." Nancy said.
"So this all very new to you and I think the lack of control is mostly due to a lack of confidence, practice and you being scared." Professor X said.
"We better call my brother and sister in law." Hannah said.
They were shocked but not too surprised. "Well that explained why you keep shocking everyone, and why things from clothes and balloons are sticking to you like glue," Henry who was Hannah's brother said.
"Well I think it might best you stay at the school with Hannah to help you," Hannah's sister in law said. "We will have your stuff sent there as soon as possible," she said.
"Okay," Nancy said.
Nancy was plenty nervous about what was going on and now she was the youngest student at Xavier's school for the gifted. "Nancy just remember I am here at the school too so if there is anything you want to talk about just come to me," Hannah said. "You can come to the other students and go to the teachers to we all want to help you," she told her.
"I know I am just worried about it," Nancy said. "I heard mutants get their powers in childhood but it's usually not till they're a teenager but why did I have to get my powers early?" Nancy asked.
"Everyone's body develops at it's own pace Nancy, I didn't develop my powers until I was almost 14, and now I'm 16 everybody is different Nancy remember that," Hannah told her.
"Okay," Nancy said.
Nancy was getting special 1 on 1 time with the teachers to help her learn control at a calm easy level because of how young she is compared to the other students. Nancy found out many of the student's got their mutants powers at different ages. She found out Hannah's boyfriend Warren got his powers at age 10. She found out the Kurt and Todd's conditions of being mutant were obvious from the moment they were born which is very rare. She saw Hannah was right everyone is different.
It made Nancy feel better that she wasn't in this alone she had her friends and family helping her through this transition and to help her control her powers.
