New Developments
A/N: I do not own Wakko, Dot and anyone else from Animaniacs. They belong to Warner Brothers. Sorry that it's been forever everyone, going to college to be a paralegal is not my idea of a fun time trust me.
A month had passed since the Warner siblings were reunited with their friend, and now it was time for the trial. Wakko and Dot were anxious as they made their way towards Scratchy's car. Things were finally coming to an end, and they weren't sure if they were happy or sad. Feeling a hand on their shoulders they looked up and were greeted by the warm smile of Claire. During the month that she had been with them she had made an astounding recovery from the toonitis, and it was almost considered cured in not just her but every other toon suffering out in the world.
"You two are nervous huh?" Claire asked fixing Wakko's tie.
Wakko nodded, "We really are, what if things go wrong and they're set free?"
"Then they could come after us!" Dot joined in.
Claire sighed softly and patted their heads, "I doubt you two have to worry, there's a lot of evidence against Memlo and Buddy. I'd love to see the defense try and make a good case."
"Yeah, you're right." The Warners responded smiling.
"Alright is everyone ready to go?" Scratchy asked walking up to them keys in hand.
The trio nodded and quickly got into the backseat feeling the anxiety levels raise even more. None of them were expecting the massive amount of traffic during the day. Granted they were used to heavy traffic they lived in Burbank, but what they were going through now was more than they wanted to even think about. They were on their way to the courthouse until something cause their blood to run cold.
"Scratchy turn up the radio!" Wakko pleaded.
"In other news today the court house has been bombed, though the cause and reasons why are still under investigation. Some are speculating that it is due to the highly anticipated Warner Murder trial that was scheduled to start today. Out of the victims there has been one death, and it was former beloved cartoon character, Buddy" the voice spewed over the radio.
Everyone froze, who on earth would want to kill Buddy, and better yet why? Wakko and Dot instantly looked distressed, they wanted to believe that death was even too good for Buddy. Claire sat there intently thinking of what could have caused the sudden change of events. The only thing she could think of was that somehow Buddy had made an enemy of Death, and that was one thing that Death did not like. Pulling out her cellphone she started to dial a number. Putting it on speaker Wakko and Dot watched wondering who would answer on the other end.
"Death's emporium, you bring em we bag em. How may I assist you today?" a voice responded.
Wakko watched as Claire's eye twitched as she sighed calmly, "Claire?"
Claire smiled faintly, "Okay then let me talk to your manager. That bag of bones has some serious explaining to do!"
Instantly the call was transferred and another voice responded, "Hello?"
"Alright Grimmy I know you hate it when people say they'll escape you, but is it really necessary to take them out with a bomb!?" the redhead fumed.
Death sighed, "I thought it was cruel irony, he was going to blow up the place when the children arrived anyways. I figured might as well take one out of the equation then an entire room full of people."
"Why do you care?" Wakko asked carefully.
Death response shocked them, "Because, it would be a shame to see your brothers sacrifice go to waste, and as part of a deal I am not to be around you children until you are MUCH older and ready to go to the pearly gates… Granted if that's where little monsters like you go."
"Well we did kinda get kicked out of Satan's place" Dot grinned at the memory.
Wakko nodded his tongue sticking out, "Ah good memories. I guess we owe you thanks then."
"Don't mention it" Death retorted, "You kids have apparently been good for business in some aspect. Also Dottie, thank you for that fashion tip you gave me so long ago. It's about time I updated with the century."
"Call me Dottie and you die!" Dot snapped.
Death laughed, "You can't kill what is already dead, Dot. I have another call coming through I'm going to have to say good-bye here."
"See ya" the trio responded and then looked up to see a rather shocked Scratchy.
"So what was that all about?" their favorite doctor asked.
Dot grinned, "Well seems like somehow Death ended up on our side? Guess we should still head there and see what they'll do now though with one of the defendants dead."
"I'm sure that they'll have Memlo under strict supervision as well." Wakko added.
"Most likely" Scratchy responded.
For the next half hour the group made their way through the traffic and arrived at the courthouse a few minutes late. The scene before them was something to behold, apparently Buddy had armed himself with a powerful bomb that had managed to blow a huge hole through the building wall. Dot and Wakko gulped not wanting to imagine what would have happened if they were in that room, if Death hadn't been involved. Wakko started to feel light headed at the sheer tragedy that could have happened, and how that if they were there on time, if Buddy hadn't already been dead they all would have died that day. It gave him a whole new reason to feel alive and be thankful that someone was looking out for them.
"So what's going to happen now?" Dot asked.
Scratchy sighed, "They'll probably just move it somewhere else and set up another date. I was hoping that we would be getting close to justice, not this."
"We agree with you there" Dot responded.
Wakko nodded as well, "Guess there's nothing left to do here but go home and wait to hear from our lawyer on what will happen."
Everyone nodded and got back into the car, finding peace in the shorter commute back to the studio lot that they called home. Wakko and Dot quickly rushed up the tower and threw off their dress clothes and quickly changed into what they were comfortable with. By the time they were done Claire had finally made it to the top of the tower. Knowing that the two would need something to make them smile she decided to restart their marathon of the actual series. Though it was decided that they would start on the last episode Dot remembered before falling asleep. By the end of the night they had watched all the episodes and Dot was now peacefully asleep. Claire had fallen asleep on the couch leaving Wakko the last one up. Sitting at his desk he pulled out his beloved leather bound journal and picked up a pen. It had been awhile since he had written to his dear brother, though deep down he was pretty sure that somewhere out there Yakko was alive.
Yakko,
You would not believe how annoying this path is to try and get justice for you. Turns out Buddy chickened out and was going to take us all out during the trial. Somehow Death decided to help us, claiming that he didn't want to see your sacrifice go in vain. I hope that eventually this will all end and things will return to as normal as possible. Granted, it will never really quite be the same without you here. Though while watching the DvDs Claire brought it was like you were here with us again. Like you would jump out of the TV and just be there with us. I know its wishful thinking, but one could only hope. I think Dot has finally come to terms with things, though in her sleep she still calls out for you. I hope you're there to comfort her Yakko, you're still a lot better at it than I am. Tomorrow we should hear something from the lawyer and see what will happen. I am sorry that it's taking so long for you to get proper justice. I know that if we tried to take justice in our own hands it would probably upset you, and you did raise us better than that. Hopefully something will happen soon. I know I say this a lot, but I miss you brother.
Love,
Wakko.
