Memlo's Insanity

A/N: Last chapter should be updated and repaired. Fanfiction apparently broke the chapter when it was uploaded. As to why I haven't gotten to it until now, well personal issues that's all I can divulge. This chapter may be shorter and perhaps considered a mini-chapter.

Everyone remained quiet as Weed Memlo, legendary director of the Buddy cartoon series took the stand. No one was quite sure on how this man was still alive. From what Wakko figured, Memlo should have passed away, but yet there he was. His eyes sunken into his skull, his wrinkled skin making him look sickly. Wakko felt uneasy as he watched the bailiff help Memlo into the witness stand.

"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" the bailiff asked.

Memlo nodded and pulled his skin back, instantly looking as if he were back in his prime, "Naturally."

"Who needs surgery if you have a trick like that" Death muttered and rested his chin on his hand, "He's going to play the "I had no idea" act, and how he feels responsible for bringing the three of you into this world."

"You want to place a bet on that?" Wakko asked.

Death shrugged, "I'm not one who likes to make such gambles."

"Mr. Memlo" Pearson cleared his throat, "Can you state your former occupation for the jury?"

Memlo nodded, "I was once a director at Warner Brothers, my main series focused on Buddy and his adventures."

"Is it true that you also commissioned the creation of the Warner Brother's and Sister?" Pearson asked.

Memlo nodded, "Yes I suppose I am."

"Can you tell the jury why you commissioned for their creation?" Pearson asked.

Memlo sighed, "Buddy's cartoons were becoming less popular. I had believed that if I gave him co-stars his career could be salvaged. Thus, I asked the animation department to create three new characters to star alongside Buddy."

"So you asked for them to create the Warners?" Pearson asked.

Memlo nodded, "Yes, I am the man that released their insanity upon the world."

"Why would you call the Warner siblings such a thing?" Pearson asked.

Memlo looked agitated, "Because of everything they did! Their films made no sense! They caused chaos all around the studio! Do not even get me started on how the Warner's would harass their co-stars!"

Dot looked down, "I guess he has us there. We weren't exactly the most well-behaved toons."

"But we've learned" Wakko patted Dot's back, "And I was thinking about doing a press release at some point to apologize for all the things Yakko and I did."

Dot shook her head, "If people are still upset by that…. well it's their fault they're caught in the past! Any child would know that what you guys did was in appropriate and that those actions shouldn't be followed."

Death continued to watch as Memlo testified, "This should be interesting…"

Memlo continued to speak as he noticed the Warner's sitting in the audience. He felt his blood boil, but that anger and rage started to leave his body as his eyes laid on those devastated children. He cleared his throat, "May I please say something to the two remaining Warner siblings?"

"We will allow it" the defense spoke, "Under the condition that you do not jeopardize yourself Mr. Memlo."

Memlo nodded and looked at Wakko and Dot, "Wakko and Dot Warner…."

Dot stayed close to Wakko feeling uneasy. Wakko remained calm hoping that the feeling in his gut was wrong. He closed his eyes and kept Dot close. Opening his eyes he stared Memlo down and prepared for what was to come, "Dot cover your ears."

"Huh?" Dot blinked.

Wakko nodded, "Cover your ears. You don't need to hear this."

Dot frowned and did as her brother requested. Wakko took off his hat and placed it over Dot's face so she wouldn't have to see what was coming. Wakko watched as Memlo got up from his seat and the look in his eyes grew dark. Wakko remained determined though and simply mouthed, 'try me'.

"THE TWO OF YOU SHOULD HAVE PERISHED IN THAT TOWER COLLAPSE AS WELL! THE THREE OF YOU DESERVED TO BE WIPED OUT OF EXISTENCE FOR THE PAIN AND SUFFERING YOU'VE CAUSED MYSELF AND MY REPUTATION!" Memlo shrieked.

Death watched as Wakko let the screams roll over him, "Wakko you have to be the better person."

"They're just words" Wakko closed his eyes, "I hope someday he finds the peace that he needs."

"Order!" the judge bellowed.

Memlo laughed and started to shake some, "I SHOULD HAVE KILLED YOU ALL!"

"The defense would like to request for Mr. Memlo to be pulled from prosecution until he can undergo a mental evaluation!" Williams was trying to salvage the defense.

Pearson tapped his chin, "You mean to tell me that a psychological examination was not performed on Memlo and Buddy when they were taken into custody?"

"I could have told them that they weren't fit for trial" Scratchensniff muttered under his breath, "the man is completely unhinged…. but I do not believe ze Warner's are responsible entirely."

Pearson sighed, "I agree, Mr. Memlo needs to be examined for mental wellness before he can be questioned again."

"The court will order for a psychological examination to be handled by a board of certified psychologists!" Judge Pacaderm bellowed and slammed her gavel down, "Court shall enter a recess!"

Dot took off Wakko's hat and looked at him concerned, "Wakko?"

"I hope you didn't hear anything he had to say" Wakko wore a faint smile, "Hey Mr. Death are you going to stay and keep watching?"

Death nodded, "I must admit I am curious to see how this will play out. Memlo is playing the insanity defense quite well, but there is something not right. It feels too rehearsed."

"So you think he's acting?" Dot asked.

Death nodded, "Quite a performance, but I did see a crack in it."

"Which was?" Wakko asked.

Death shrugged, "You two were in show business why don't you figure it out yourself?"

"That's not very fair!" Dot pouted.

Wakko continued to look at the seat Memlo once sat in only mere moments before, "He was composed the whole time until he looked at us. He's going to try and say the sight of us triggers him."

Dot looked at her brother, "But why would we trigger anyone?"

"Well we were pretty rowdy" Wakko sighed, "Come on Dot let's go get some fresh air, maybe even try and get a phone call in."

Dot nodded, "Sounds like a good idea. I wonder how she's doing."

"I'm sure she's fine" Wakko tried to stay positive as they stepped out of the courtroom, "Now to find somewhere private."

Meanwhile Death remained in the court room and stood next to the helmeted figure, "I'm surprised you didn't lose your temper."

"It wouldn't help them" Yakko sighed, "I should be bearing the brunt of those words not Wakko."

Death shrugged, "They've both grown up so much. I doubt there is much you can protect them from."

Yakko shook his head, "Neither of them should have had to endure this though. Yet, to be honest I wouldn't change a thing. They've been able to live and grow together."

"Yet I do hear a sense of regret" Death mused and looked towards the door, "Ah sounds like they're on the phone with your "special friend". I wonder what they'll be discussing this time around. Have you been to see them yet? I'm sure your company would be appreciated."

Yakko tilted his head some as if to try and listen, "Hmm?"

Meanwhile in the main lobby Wakko and Dot were indeed in a short video call with Claire. The girl looked exhausted and appeared troubled at the fact that Memlo was now being examined for insanity.

"We're worried that he's going to get off entirely free!" Dot admitted.

Wakko nodded, "We know you're not feeling well but-"

"I don't mind talking to you two" Claire admitted and yawned, "I've been trying to follow the trial since it seems to be such a hot topic right now."

Dot sighed, "Do you think that this will get our show to come back?"

"I would imagine it's gotten a lot of attention and interest back in the original series" Claire shrugged.

Wakko shrugged, "Maybe, but enough about that how are you doing?"

"I've been better, I've been worse" Claire yawned, "Another round of treatment will be happening soon. You two take care of yourselves."

Dot nodded, "We'll talk to you later Claire."

"Don't do anything we wouldn't do" Wakko teased.

Claire offered a faint smile, "No promises!"

Wakko and Dot watched as the screen went black and nearly jumped as Scratchy touched their shoulders. The exhausted looking man shook his head slightly, "The examination is going to take longer than what the recess is going to allow. We're going to the hotel room for the night."

"Okay" Dot looked sad, "Will we be safe?"

Scratchy nodded, "I promise I won't let anything happen to either of you."

"We appreciate it" Wakko had a weak smile and noticed the helmeted man from earlier, "Oh it's you!"

Yakko nearly froze but tried to play it off, "Looks like they're done for the day huh? I hope you two find the peace you're looking for."

"Where are you going?" Dot asked rather curious.

Yakko shrugged, "To see a friend is all. Don't worry I'll be here again tomorrow to watch."

Dot and Wakko remained silent as Yakko left. The eldest Warner hated that Death was right, that he should pay his special friend a visit. With a halfhearted sigh he walked over to his bike and started the engine. Without a second thought he found himself heading towards the sterile colored walls of the treatment center. He knew that he shouldn't go, but he had missed his special friend after all.

-End.
