When someone relies on something too much, we become weak, . We use things as a crutch, and are worse off because we use it the wrong way, as an everyday item, rather than a simple assist.
As the Ninja searched through the junkyard for the parts needed to get them back to New Ninjago City, Kai and Skylor watched over Zane and Nya, as they tinkered with Pixal.
"Are you sure you want to do this? Modifying your original design could have… unintentional consequences." Nya warns, taking half of his power cell.
"She risked her life for me, it's the least I could do to get her back." Zane affirms. With this, Nya inserts the halved power supply, and it immediately got to work, recharging Pixal and reactivating her.
"Where am I? What happened?" Pixal looks around, before noticing Zane's open cavity. "You gave me half of your power source. I don't understand."
"You are the only one who knows Borg's systems. You are vital to the mission. And… you are vital to me." Zane explains.
"Call me a sucker, but if these two have anything close to what you and Jay have, it'll be a match made in heaven." Edna gushes.
"Nya and Jay? Judging from perfect match compatibility, perhaps Nya and Cole would be a closer comparison." Pixal reveals, much to the shock of the others, while making Kai sigh.
"Nya and Cole are a better match?" Edna questions.
"Don't you mean Jay? Is your processor damaged at all?" Zane questions with concern.
"My processor is fully functional. The perfect match for Nya isn't Jay, but Cole." She affirms, as Jay walks in to hear it.
"Cole's her perfect match?!" Jay exclaims in sadness and shock.
"Jay?" Nya whispers, going to take his hand in hers, before Cole barges in.
"Huh, it's so quiet in here. What did I miss? Another signature Jay Walker gut buster?" He asks. Jay stammers, turning to Cole
"You backstabbing no good… GAH!" Jay tackles the Master of Earth to the ground, before Kai and Nya drag them away from each other, with Nya trying to soothe Jay.
"The heart wants what it wants." Kai states. "No kind of machine, amazingly built or otherwise, will change that. Perfect match scientifically, yes, but in reality? No. And if I find that such a revelation has changed my sister any way, make note that I will destroy said machine." The others sweat-drop at kai, but can't fault him either.
"I hope Lloyd is having better luck than us." Nya notes. As she says this, Kai notices a change in the surrounding energies, feeling a surge of power. Before he can warn the others, the caravan shudders.
"Uh, what was that?" Jay asks, forgetting his fight with Cole. As Kai and Ed open the door, the crane is revealed to be holding them up magnetically.
"This makes no sense. None of the machinery has worked since the power outage!" Ed exclaims. Kai looks closer, noticing the Nindroids at the helm.
"It's not just your machinery that is powered. Those Nindroids are too." He gestures. "The question is; what's powering them." They are forced to close the door as the crane begins to spin them around, making a mess, and bashing the ninja into walls as well as each other. Bolts of plasma tear through the caravan. Ed and Edna equip some kind of jet-pack, catching everyone's attention.
"Uh, you got any for us?" Jay asks.
"Sorry, honey, but you and your friends rarely come and visit. Besides, you're ninja. Have fun!" With that, the two of them leave, bubbles emitting from the jets, somehow propelling them away. As the others make their escape, Zane is unable to use spinjitzu, with Pixal being left to help protect him. The others immediately ready up, Kai having taken Skylor with him, and Jay taking Nya. Cole and Jay both go to help Zane, only to be trapped in a compactor, their cries for help muffled. Kai goes to help, but is forced to dodge a strike from a cybernetically enhanced Wu.
"Skylor! Go help Zane. Nya, get those two out of there!" Kai orders, dodging another strike. "I'll handle Wu." Kai begins to watch the Sensei's moves, leading him along as his strikes miss, sending sparks of electricity time and time again. Eventually, Wu is forced back, and Zane manages to pick him up with the magnetic crane, until a white cloaked figure fires an arrow, destroying the electric currents, freeing Wu, who leaps over to the figure.
"That's enough. The Overlord will be pleased." The figure assures, before they both depart in a hover transport.
"Who was that?" Zane wonders aloud.
"I have my suspicions, but unless proven correct, I'm keeping them." Kai answers darkly, while Pixal collects a bleached white scale.
"Can you find anything out?" Nya asks Pixal.
"The sample size is small, but given enough time, I could find out." She assures.
"I'll use my falcon vision to find Lloyd. Get a message ready for me to send him.
." Zane adds, immediately activating his vision. Nya simply sighs.
"I thought taking the power out would give us the upper hand. But now that they have it and we don't… I guess the power has only shifted." She frets, as Jay and Cole begin to fight once more in the background.
"It's alright sis. We'll get Sensei back. And we'll stop this unknown person too." Kai assures. "But I think it's time we visited the Serpentine." As Kai and the others record the message, the energies shift, and Kai tries to get Zane to disconnect from the falcon, but the damage is done. As Zane begins to end the recording, Kai sends his own message. "Lloyd, I think they just got a lock on the falcon. Separate from it as soon as you can!" His message is cut off, as the recording sends. "Fuck. We just walked right into a trap."
"What do you mean, why do you think they can track the falcon?" Zane asks.
"Not only have more difficult things been done, Zane, but it makes no sense why they just left. They could have overwhelmed us. I was so focused on Wu, that I could have been attacked and taken out." Kai explains. "They baited us, and we fell for it."
