It's Juneteenth! I talk about the importance of this holiday in my story the History of Fate, check it out if you haven't read it. If you don't know the significance of Juneteenth take a few moments and read up on it today.

It was February of Tris and Caleb's senior year. It had been 7 years since the Priors had moved to Charlotte. Tris still missed Chicago a little but Charlotte was home now. She was captain of the team this year, they were good, really good. This was her last chance at a state championship. Tobias and Uriah were going for their second state championship, Tris and her team had lost the year before. She was determined to win this year.

"Tris come on!" Susan screams from across the lawn.

"I'm coming!" Tris yells back as she grabs her gym back from by the door.

"By Dad! I'll see you at the game!" Tris hollers back into the house as she shuts the door. She runs down the path to jump into Susan's car.

Susan Black was one of the closest friends Tris had made at Abnegation Christian Prep School. She, Zeke, and Uriah were good friends too. Susan was more straight-laced than Tris and Uriah but she still never wanted to miss out on any of the fun. Susan was a cheerleader. Since Tris and Caleb had to share a car, Susan and Tris usually rode together to the games so Tris didn't have to listen to Caleb complain about never having a turn to use the car when Tris had games and having to sit through warm-ups.

Tris lingers for a moment as she looks next door and sees Tobias, Uriah, and Zeke fooling around shooting around at the basketball hoop Tobias had outside of their garage still. She would still play with them from time to time but not as often as when they were kids. Uriah and Tobias both played varsity basketball as well. Tobias was really good too, he was the top-ranked player in North Carolina and the overall number 2 college recruit in the nation. The media had been speculating about which college he was going to choose but he had been tightlipped about where he was going. Every major Division 1 program in the country from Duke to UNC-Chapel Hill, Marquette, Baylor, and Gonzaga were after him. Tobias had always been spoiled but over the last few years, he had gotten a bit cockier. Tris could tell some of it was a front. He let his guard down around her, Uriah and Zeke but that was about it.

"I really just wish you two would go at it and spare us all the awkward sexual tension," Susan says with an eye roll as she slides into the driver's seat of her BMW. Her father was a US Senator and a lawyer so her family was as affluent as the Priors were. Susan and Caleb started officially dating their junior year so Tris was used to Susan teasing her about Tobias as Susan had been integrated into their small circle of friends.

Tris rolls her eyes in response as she throws her bag in the backseat and climbs into the passenger seat.

"Seriously Susan, give it a rest! There is no awkward sexual tension! No one is thinking about Tobias Eaton!".

"The love-hate relationship you two have speaks volumes but you have to admit he's still freaking gorgeous. "

Tris shakes her head, Tobias Eaton may have been the first boy she kissed when she was 11, and they had a very heated makeout session during a game of dare when they were 16 but there was no way she would allow herself to become one of the groupies that chased after him. She would never ever admit out loud not even to Susan just how much she wished he would look at her like he looked at the other girls though. Friends were the only thing they could be. Susan pulls into the gym parking lot and Tris heads to the locker room to change so she can get some extra free throw practice in before warm-ups.

By the time the game starts, Tris is warmed up and ready to play. She moves her neck from side to side and takes a deep breath as she tucks her jersey into the waistband of her shorts. The Abnegation Lady Crusaders were currently 27-3 with two games left in the season. This was the semi-finals for the North Carolina State 3A playoffs. If they won this game the Lady Crusaders were going to play for their 2nd state championship in three years. Tris had worked so hard Tris looked in the stands and the heart rate picked up. There a few rows down from her family was Dawn Staley, the coach of the University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks. If they win this game, only the championship game is left.

Her anxiety was high, she still hadn't received any official offers to play college basketball. Recruiters had been to games the entire season, she was the highest scorer on the team, and had sold stats except for her playing time. She had to play a good game tonight. Dawn Staley was the coach to play for and it was close to home which would be an upside even though she would go anywhere that would give her a shot. Her parents weren't hurting for money so it wasn't an issue of money to pay for her education, all she needed was an invitation for the team.

She turns her head to the top of the stands where Tobias gives her a head nod that she returned. She turns back to the court to finish her warm-up when she sees him turn to Jada Foster as she tossed her long braids over her shoulder and flashed him a smile. Tobias and she were more frenemies than anything now. He annoyed the shit out of her most of the time but every now and then they would share a quiet moment that let each other know if they really needed anything they would have each other's back. They'd come close to kissing again a few times but Tris never let it happen.

Tris takes her place as the whistle sounds indicating the start of the game. This team was good but she knew she could do this. The court was where she came alive and every sound and feeling ran through her body like an electric current. She jumps into action as soon as the jump ball takes place.

Come on Tris, play smart. You got this…

By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Crusaders are up by 5. Tris inbounds the ball and sinks a three-pointer. She leaves her arm up for a few seconds with her wrist bent, it was her thing when she made a difficult shot, she had been doing it since she was 10 and got comfortable with shooting the ball. She gets back on defense and puts her hands up. The girl she was guarding wasn't as good as her, she could take her, but she didn't like the looks she had been giving her.

She's going for a layup, don't let her get it, reminder whose house this is

Just as Tris anticipates she goes for a layup. Tris pulls up and connects with the ball, knocking it hard out of bounds. The crowd erupts and Tris sees the way number 11 looks at her. Tris wasn't going to let her intimidate her, she steps to her, nose to nose to look her straight in the eye.

Suddenly she hears a whistle and the referee makes a hand motion for a T.

"Technical Foul, Unsportsmanlike conduct"

"What!" Tris screams with her eyes wild. She scrambles after the referee to the scorer's table to argue her point when Coach Becker grabs her by the arm.

"Ref, you suck" Tris spits out. That call was total bullshit, she didn't even do anything.

"Sit down and cool off, Tris, you know the rules" He yells.

Tris throws herself down into the chair. She hated this, she couldn't be quiet and reserved like Coach Becker expected her to be. Tobias or Uriah could talk all the trash they wanted and never got T'd up. It infuriated her. She angrily grabs a towel from behind her. She could hear her mother scolding her.

"Beatrice!" Natalie says loudly from her seat a few rows up from the home team bench.

"Leave her alone Natalie, Let her cool off," Andrew says to his wife. Tris was emotional, he knew she was going to have to learn to control her temper if she was going to play college ball.

"Beatrice!" Tris can hear her mother and she was not in the mood for a lecture on decorum from her mother.

"She is behaving horribly" Natalie replies in a huff to Andrew. She hated that Tris had this attitude problem. Why couldn't she be more ladylike? Lauren and Caleb had no problem, but Tris, there was never any reining her in.

The next three quarters are complete torture for Tris. She sits and watches all her other teammates play in the game. The Lady Crusaders fall behind in the third quarter by 10 points but start to battle back at the start of the 4th quarter. Tris peeks over at Dawn Staley and the other two coaches who were with her writing notes on her clipboard. This could not be good.

The next Saturday Tris and Caleb are setting the table for dinner. Natalie still insisted on family dinner whenever possible even though Tris and Caleb were in and out with basketball and golf.

"Daddy, you gotta talk to Coach for me" Tris whines.

"And what am I supposed to tell him?" Andrew challenges.

"Tell him to keep me on the floor. Dawn Staley was at the game and I spent the entire game riding the bench" Tris complains.

"You lost your cool, now you have to deal with the consequences" Andrew reminds her.

"I don't know who told you it was okay for you to act that way Beatrice' Natalie scolds as she sets out the potato salad for dinner and goes back to grab the next dish from the kitchen.

"I was just showing emotion" Tris huffs realizing that she might have gotten carried away but it wasn't fair, Tobias and Uriah were two of the worst trash talkers she ever met and didn't get anywhere near the calls that she did for doing the same thing. "How am I going to get recruited if I can't be on the court"

"Well you need to look at all you have going for you, you're smart, you can be pretty if you would put a little more into your appearance. I keep hoping you'll grow out of this tomboy phase" Natalie offers as she brings in the fried chicken she made and sits the platter in the middle of the table.

"Here we go," Tris sighs, moving to sit down at her usual seat at the table. Natalie wanted her to be prim and proper like her. Yeah, Tris rarely cared about what she wore or how her hair looked but she was sick of the constant critiques from her mother.

"Beatrice, I am just saying that you should put some more effort into your presentation, walking around like you don't care about anything isn't good"

"Because I'd rather wear a jersey than an apron?" Tris shoots back.

"I think what your mother is trying to say Munchkin is that maybe it's time you started to think about other things besides basketball"

"Daddy…." Tris feels utterly defeated, her father had been there for every game, he had been her cheerleader through all the years she played basketball. If he didn't believe in her, what was she supposed to do?

"Munchkin, you have one game left and you have been recruited. I want this as bad as you do but you need to start facing reality." Andrew points out. He hated to crush her dreams but it was time for Tris to stop chasing a dream that might not happen.

"The coach from Dauntless is going to be at the state championship" Tris defends.

"There's a slim possibility that she hasn't finished her recruiting" Andre points out trying to get Tris to think logically.

"But there's still a chance," Tris says quietly, feeling her eyes well up with tears.

"Come on let's say grace" Natalie instructs as she sits and holds out her hands indicating for everyone to bow their heads and join hands.

Tris is quiet through dinner, she barely touches her food. As she was clearing the dishes, she looks out the window of the dining room and sees Tobias outside making out with a girl pressed against what she presumed to be the girl's car. It hit her in the pit of her stomach that they were all over each other. She hated that she was jealous but that was the last thing she wanted to think about right now.

Tobias pulls himself away from Bria Murphy, he had intended to walk her to her car and that was it but when she started kissing him, they ended up getting hot and heavy again. He knew he was running low on time before his mother came home from her hair appointment and afternoon of shopping.

Bria pulls back and looks at him, wiping the lipstick she had left off his lips.

"You gotta get going, my moms is going to be home soon," Tobias says as he pulls her waist to his.

"You don't think I'm good enough to meet your Mom, is that why you rushing me off?"

Tobias smirks. Bria was nice looking, with tightly coiled hair that framed her face. Her pecan brown skin was smooth and she had a great body. She went to a different high school which Tobias liked because it took the pressure off him having to parade around school with her. She had hung around after one of his games against her school earlier in the season and given him her phone number. Tobias wasn't exclusive with anyone, but he definitely kept a rotation of girls. Bria had offered to come over so they could watch a movie since it was Saturday which had quickly turned into them having sex, which was their normal routine. She was fun in bed and wasn't as annoying as most of the girls he messed around with. He took her out for ice cream a few times but nothing major.

"My Mom would flip if she knew I had a hottie like you here alone. I can't have her cutting out me having guests over" Tobias says playfully even though he was really serious.

Evelyn would flip if she found out but that wasn't the only reason. Tobias hated that all the girls that chased after him wanted him to date, and post pictures, they wanted commitment and it just didn't feel right to him. Yeah, he was wrong for sleeping with a few of them but he never felt like he could truly be himself with them. The only girl he felt that with was Tris, in the quiet morning when they went running together or the late nights they played one on one in his driveway.

"Okayyyyyyy" Bria sighs as she walks around and gets in her car, giving Tobias a wink before she does.

He watched Bria drive away and sighed as he turned to look at Tris's house. What would happen if he told Tris how he felt?

"You want to talk about it?" Caleb asks as he sits down next to Tris on her bed. She was lying there tossing her ball up in the air thinking about getting benched in her game.

Tris doesn't respond, she just keeps tossing the ball up in the air until Caleb snatches it in mid-air.

"Hey, give that back!" Tris complains trying to take it back. Caleb looks at her while holding the ball with his arm outreached so she couldn't get it.

"Come on Tris, it's time to stop brooding"

"I'm not brooding, I'm just thinking"

"About" Caleb challenges.

"Everything, They won without me. Maybe Daddy is right and I need to start thinking about life without basketball"

"Tris, you just need to get out of your head, stop reacting and play your game, you keep trying to prove that you're so tough just like Tobias and Uriah, just be you and play YOUR game"

"Thanks, Twin," Tris says quietly and gives a half-smile. Caleb was great at talking sense into her when she couldn't figure out her way around something.

Caleb tosses the ball back to his sister and smiles as he walks out the door.

She picks up her phone to text Tobias. It was what they both did when they wanted to practice or think or needed a distraction. When the season wasn't in, they would jog together in the morning before school. Most times they didn't talk, they were just there in each other's company.

Tris: Ball?

She smiled when he texted back immediately.

Tobias: Yeah, give me 10

She got up and threw on some clothes to play in. She didn't feel like her mother asking questions since it was after 10 so she went through her window to meet Tobias in his driveway.

30 minutes later the two are deadlocked scrambling for a basket. Tris is dribbling the ball and Tobias is playing her close. Tobias knows he should be focused on taking the ball away and not allowing her to get a shot off but he can't stop thinking about the smell of her hair or her lavender lotion or how good it would be to feel her lips on his again. Tris stands up to try and move around him but he follows and his long arms block her shot. Tobias is close to her now, so close he can feel her breath. Even though the only light they have shines from the floodlights he can see her hazel eyes focused but alive and beautiful. Tris pauses, momentarily forgetting that she should be dribbling as she looks into his deep brown eyes. Tobias takes his chance and quickly places a kiss on her lips.

"What was that for?" Tris says shocked and trying to register what happened.

Tobias shrugs "I wanted to kiss you so I did"

Tris lets the ball fall and she grabs Tobias by the neck practically climbing his body to kiss him. He grins against her mouth and returns her kiss. Tobias wraps his arms around her waist and pulls on her bottom lip with his teeth causing Tris to groan. Tris runs her hands to his chest. His lips were perfect, she never thought she would get enough. They stay like that for a few minutes before Tris remembers that she saw him kissing another girl earlier that day and that they probably did more than kiss.

"Tobias who was that you were with earlier today?" she asks as she pulls away.

"Nobody important," he says reaching for her again.

"See that right there is why this isn't a good idea," Tris says as she shakes her head and backs away from him.

"Ugh, why do you always do this?" Tobis says frustrated as he puts his hands on his hips and looks down at the concrete of the driveway.

"Because Tobias, I'm not someone who's going to just let you have your way and keep me on standby like the other girls you string along," Tris says honestly as she goes to pick up the ball.

"Tris" Tobias starts. He realized she had a point though. He did not look favorable in the situation.

"Let's just play," She says as she starts to dribble the ball again. Tobias nods in agreement not saying anything. Maybe Tris was always going to be the one girl he could never have.

Tris sits on the front row of the bleachers at the boys' semifinal game the following Saturday afternoon. Caleb and Zeke were sitting on the other side of her. She bounces her knee as she squints her eyes watching Tobias move the ball up the court. This was the semi-finals game for the Boys Varsity State Championship. Uriah and Tobias were dominating the game. She grins as she sees Tobias cross up his defender and pull back to make a clean three-pointer.

Caleb looks over at her and chuckles she was always so focused when there was a game in front of her she missed half of what was going on. At halftime, Zeke and Caleb gather their things. The golf team had a meet so Zeke and Caleb had to leave. That meant Tris was going to have to ask Tobias for a ride home since Susan and all the cheerleaders always went out after the game.

"Good luck, bring home a W," Tris tells Caleb and Zeke as she turns back to the second half that was starting.

Maria Kelly was sitting on the row behind Tris, next to her friend Lindsay. Tris was wearing a pair of basketball shorts, a pair of Js, and a Jordan T-shirt. Her hair was thrown up in her curly bun. Maria slides down to sit next to Tris in the spot where Caleb had been sitting.

"Hey Girl, Your outfit is really cute," Maria says with too much enthusiasm and fakeness for Tris.

Tris rolls her eyes "Thanks" knowing that Maria was only talking to her because she wanted something.

"Do you know who Tobias is taking to prom?"

"Why would I know that?"

"You live right next door, just tell me who's been sliding through"

"There's just so many I can't keep track" Tris replies with a sarcastic tone.

"Could you give him this note for me?" Maria asks sweetly.

"Why don't give it to him yourself or DM him?"

"I'm trying to stand out this is old school"

Before Tris can say anything Maria slides the note in the crease of her arm and slides back to her seat on the bleachers. She rolls her eyes and looks at Lindsay when she does.

Tobias runs over to right in front of them to inbound the ball.

"Good Lord, look at his booty, I just want to lick the sweat off it," Maria says loud enough for Tris to hear.

Tris looks back at Tobias, she didn't want to ogle him but his body had gotten more muscular over the past two years. She can feel her breath catch as the memories of the two of them making out in his driveway the week before and Uriah and Zeke's 16th birthday party with his hand down her swimsuit bottoms makes her clench her thighs together.

"Get it together Tris" she whispers out loud. She tries to focus on the game and not think about kissing Tobias.

After the game, Tobias congratulates the team. He stops to talk to his father who was surrounded by a few reporters.

"Come on Marcus, give an exclusive on where Tobias is going to sign. I've been writing about him for four years. I did that great piece on the two of you last year for the Charlotte Sun Times." The reporter pushes.

"Ah you'll find out at the National Signing Day press conference just like everyone else" Marcus smiles.

"Wouldn't you love for him to play at UNC just like you did?" The reporter tests to see if Marcus will give any hints.

"I would love for my son to get a good education" Marcus retorts back, crossing his arms.

Tobias sees the reporter scowl a little bit realizing he wasn't getting anywhere with his father.

The reporter takes a quick pick of Marcus and Tobias for his article on the game and gives up on the exclusive as Tobias and Marcus walk toward the other side of the gym.

"I think we should sit down with the coach from Princeton again" Marcus reasons.

"Pop, there's no way an Ivy League team is going to the tournament"

Marcus had been pushing Tobias to look at Ivy League schools that were recruiting him so he could get a good education but Tobias was more concerned about winning an NCAA National Championship.

Tobias looks up as he sees Tris walking toward him.

"Look son, I got a meeting, tell your mom I'll be home late"

"Sure see you later Pop" Tobias calls out as Tris smiles at his father as he walks past her.

"Hey Mr. E."

"Hey, Miss Baller. See you two later" Marcus says as he walks toward the gym exit.

"Way to hoop," Tris says with a nod. Tobias had an awesome game, there was no doubt about that. She had to give him credit even though she knew it would do nothing but inflate his ego.

"I know this. What do you want?" Tobias responds cockily. They had fallen back into their frenemies zone after he kissed her last week. It was a defense mechanism, he could own up to it now. He liked pushing her buttons but she was the one who held all the cards to break his heart.

"A ride home," Tris says as though it's obvious with a little attitude.

"Your legs don't look broke" Tobias challenges. Granted you really could walk but it was a few miles from their house and he would never let her walk alone in the dark.

"Look big head I'll be at your car" Tris retorts as she rolls her eyes and turns to the exit.

"You could at least say please!" Tobias yells.

"Please!" Tris yells back with a fake smile and she sticks her tongue out at him before walking out the door.

About 20 minutes later after a quick shower in the locker room, Tobias climbs into his silver G Wagon Mercedes he got for his 16th birthday and Tris hops into the passenger seat.

"Can we go by Zaxby's? I'm starving" Tris requests as she settles into the soft leather seats. Of course, the Priors weren't as well off as the Eatons, she and Caleb got a brand new Lexus for their 16th birthday that they had to share but she loved riding in Tobias's car.

"Now we makin stops? I'm not your chauffeur Ms. Prior" Tobias shoots back even though he was hungry too and Zaxby's did sound good.

Tris reaches for the radio to put on some music.

"Would you stop touching stuff, on my God you are the worst passenger ever! Have some respect for my car"

"Put some music on" Tris whines.

"Well I like to ride home in silence, think about how good my game was"

Tris sighs dramatically and rolls her eyes and pulls out the note Maria had passed to her.

"What's that?" Tobias asks as she darts his eyes over.

"Some note Maria Kelly asked me to give to you"

"Maria Kelly, Maria….Ohhh! The chick with big tities!" Tobias says registering who she was talking about. "Give it here"

"No" Tris replies and she holds it so he can't reach it, she should give it to him but she felt like teasing him.

"Come on Tris, give it!" Tobias complains as he reaches with his right hand while keeping the left on the steering wheel as he navigates to Zaxby's.

"Nope," she says, popping the p. She unfolds the note dramatically to read it out loud.

Hey T Money,

You are so fine, I've had my eye on you for a long time. Let me take you to prom and I promise I'll leave you satisfied.

"Ugh, what thirsty thot" Tris remarks as folds the note back up and tosses it into Tobias's lap. She knew girls chased after Tobias but this was just ridiculous.

"Why she gotta be a thot because she want to get with me?" Tobias challenges. He didn't want to argue with Tris tonight but he really was curious about what she thought.

"No, she's a thot because she's sending her pussy through the mail"

"That's got to make her a thot? I thought you were all about women being able to do what men do and all that shit" Tobias pushes back.

"It's not that she's saying you're a nice guy and I want to get to know you better, she basically just said I wanna fuck. I'm shocked there wasn't a bra and panty shot included. But you like your women with low standards so I guess she's your type"

Tobias clenches his jaw, he didn't want to let her know that her comment gut-punched him. He did like women with standards, it just happened to be her.

"I didn't know you cared so much," He says sarcastically.

"I don't" she replies with a sigh as she sits up in the seat when he pulls up to the drive-through to order. Trying to make her voice sound as convincing as possible. Once they have their food he pulls into a parking spot and they dig in.

"So who are you taking to Prom? Wilson?" he teases.

"Who's Wilson?" she asks as she looks confused and Tobias nods his head to the Wilson brand basketball with her name on it at her feet she had carried with her to the game.

"You know what, you make me sick" she exclaims and pulls back punching him in the arm.

"Ow, that hurt '' Tobias eeks and giggles out as he puts his hands up in surrender. "That's why you not getting recruited right there"

"Who says I'm not getting recruited!?" Tris practically yells back.

"Your hot ass temper, that's who!" Tobias spits back.

"Temper?! I'm not the one who put this scar here when we were 11 years old because he was about to lose!" she fusses back and points to her jaw.

"Oh my God, I'm so sick of you holding this over my head!" Tobias complains. Tris never let him live it down from that first day they met when he pushed her into the grass. "You know what, take your best shot, I'm sick of you holding this over my head!"

Tobias tilts his face so his jaw is pushed out and leans over close to Tris and gives his face a smack.

"Come on, give me your best shot" he taunts.

"I swear, don't tempt me, I'm warning you" Tris retorts.

It wasn't as if she was really still mad about it but she knew it pushed his buttons when she brought it up even though it was a prime example of the double standard for men and women.

"I'm warning you, if you don't calm down that temper, you aren't going to play college ball"

"Save it, Tobias, You jump in some guy's face, block a shot, and talk trash you end up on a highlight reel on IG with a pat on your ass, and everyone cheers. If I do it, because I'm a woman, I get told to calm down and act like a lady. I'm a ballplayer, it shouldn't matter if I'm female." Tris meant every word but she knew Tobias was being straightforward with her even if she didn't like what he had to say.

"You're a ballplayer with a temper, that's not gonna fly at the next level," Tobias says softly as he goes back to eating his chicken fingers. She didn't need him to coddle her, she was tough, even though she was going to be mad, he knew she could take it.

Tobias and Tris had just gotten home and she was still mad with him. She had stormed off as soon as he pulled in the driveway. He didn't mean to drag her down but she needed to hear it. As much as she wanted them to be on an equal playing field, they just weren't.

"Tobias Amari Eaton, what is this?" Evelyn asked as she held up a gold hoop earring as Tobias walked into the kitchen from the back door.

"Ummm, that's your earring" Tobias tries to play off as he walks toward the laundry room with his gym bag cursing himself that his mother had clearly found Bria's earring that she texted him about losing.

"Don't play with me, Tobias. I found this in your room."

"Ma, what you doing in my room" Tobias sighs. He was so ready to go to college to get some real privacy.

"Don't you Ma me, boy" Evelyn

"We were just studying!" Tobias offers

"I am not falling for that Tobias. What have I told you about messing with these fast-ass girls? They see you and they see a potential NBA player with dollar signs attached. Are you hearing me?" Evelyn asks forcefully as she stops Tobias from unloading his clothes into the hamper.

"I hear you Ma," Tobias says nonchalantly knowing his mother had been giving him this speech since he was 16.

"No are you hearing me?" Evelyn repeats as she enunciates each word.

"Yes Ma, I hear you, I promise"

"How was your game?" She asks pulling him in to kiss him on the cheek. Gone were the days where he was her little boy. He was almost a foot taller than her now.

"27 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds" Tobias rattles off.

"Still the man," Evelyn praises as she puts up a fist. She and Tobias fist bump and smiles as they walk out of the laundry room.

"Where's your father?" she asks, looking at the time and the smile slowly fading from her face.

"He said he had some meeting, said he would be home later" Tobias shrugs as he goes to his room.

It's around 1 am when Marcus comes home. It doesn't take long for him and Evelyn to start arguing. About where he was, about how Evelyn felt neglected, about how Marcus wasn't making sure Tobias was being careful with the girls he was running around with, About how Evelyn needed to get a real job now that Marcus wasn't playing in the NBA. Tobias laid in his bed listening as his mother threw something across the room at his father. He couldn't take listening to the arguing tonight, especially when they started arguing about him. It crushed his spirit. Tobias crawls out of his window and lightly raps on Tris's window to wake her up. They had done this so many times over the years it was second nature. After a moment she stirs and sits up. Sleepily she makes her way over to the window. She sighs as she sees Tobias standing there looking pitiful and pushes the window all the way open so he could climb in. Her feelings were still hurt from earlier but he was never one to coddle her like a delicate female and at the end of the day she appreciated that about him. Silently Tris crawls back into bed and tosses him a pillow and a blanket. Tobias makes his bed on the floor and they drift off to sleep without saying a word.

Let me know what you think of this chapter!
