Hey Ya'll! I'm glad ya'll are happy Tris and Tobias are together. Enjoy this chapter! Love ya'll
On Monday morning Tris is a little nervous about school and her and Tobias going public about thier relationship. She smiles as she walks out of the house with her bookbag and Tobias is waiting for her to give her a ride to school. She still hadn't said anything to Susan or Caleb about them being together. Caleb had a golf match and needed to stay late after school so he thought nothing of it when Tris said had a ride to school.
When they all get to the school parking lot. Zeke and Uriah pull up at the same time. Everyone hops out as they usually do but it doesn't miss Uriah that Tris and Tobias are acting different since they rode together.
"Wait, why are you two smiling at each other and not fighting?" Uriah says, narrowing his eyes and his face spreading into a wide grin.
"Oh My God! Finally!" Susan squeals as she hugs Tris who laughs.
Tobias pulls her close and kisses her forehead as Susan lets out a loud Awwww.
"Will you stop it, please? This is not a big deal!" Tris begs, not wanting to spend the day being the center of attention.
"Okay I'm sorry, really but this is a big deal. Pay up!" Susan says lifting her arms in victory before holding her hand out and placing her other hand on her hip looking at Zeke, Uriah, and Caleb.
"You placed bets on us getting together?" Tobias asks with his mouth open.
"Yeah, Susan said within one week of prom" Caleb grumbles as he opens his wallet and pulls out a $20 to give to his girlfriend.
"Zeke, you too?' Tris asks, looking at him.
"I'm not a fool Tris, I thought when my prediction of Christmas break didn't hit that maybe things would be different" Zeke shrugs as he hands Susan her money. Tris nods surprised he was taking this so well.
Susan drags Tris off for first period after Uriah pays up and the two link arms as she begs Tris to tell her everything. Tris looks back at Tobias and smiles and he grins scratching the back of his head.
He looks up and sees Caleb, Uriah, and Zeke all looking at him waiting for an explanation.
"What?" Tobias asks, raising his eyebrows at his friends.
"Bro, you left prom with Maria Kelly on your arm Saturday night and now you and Tris show up all lovey dovey today. We need answers" Uriah states.
Tobias sighs knowing he was going to have to give up some details.
"We ummmm talked after prom and we realized we wanted to give it a shot" Tobias explains vaguely.
"Talked….Yeah right…" Caleb scoffs with a smirk. "Look T. You're my boy, but Tris is my sister, fuck her over and we will have a problem" Caleb says bluntly.
Tobias nods. Uriah and Caleb turn toward the building as the bell rings. Tobias lingers back for a minute with Zeke.
"Are you really okay with this? I had no idea until Tris told me that…" Tobias starts gripping both the straps of his book bag and pulling them to the center of his chest.
"Look, I'll get over Tris, you two have some star-crossed lovers shit going on. I was never going to be able to compete with that. I really am happy for you two." Zeke says with a sigh.
Tobias nods his head hoping that his best friend was really going to be okay.
"But T. take what Caleb said seriously. Don't fuck her over. Or I really will kick your ass too. Tris is special, she doesn't deserve to be just another notch on your belt"
"I'm gonna do this right Zeke, I promise. I know how special she is"
Zeke nods and they walk silently into the building together. He meant every word. Tris was special and he would move on but if Tobias screwed her over, he would make him pay.
By the end of the day after Tobias holds Tris's hand in the hallway, everyone is abuzz about the new couple. Tris expected cattiness and jealousy especially from Maria Kelly and Molly Atwood and few other girls Tobias had messed around with. It made Tobias furious when he heard a few people mumble under their breath about Tris being a slut. It hit him in his gut that people thought differently of Tris just because of his actions that had nothing to do with her.
On Friday night, Tris picks a dress that Susan loans her for her first official date with Tobias.
"Honey, you look lovely, where are you off to this evening?" Natalie asks as Tris makes her way down to the kitchen.
"Ummm I have a date, we're going to the movies"
"With the young man who took you to prom?" Andrew asks from his seat at the kitchen table where Natalie was laying out dinner. Caleb was already out with Susan so they had assumed Tris didn't have any plans.
"Ummm no," Tris says, assuming she would have to let the cat out of the bag about her and Tobias at some point. As if on cue the doorbell rings.
Andrew is surprised when he opens the door to find Tobias standing there with a bouquet of flowers dressed in a black button-down shirt and a pair of khaki pants.
"Tobias, son...Can I help you with something?" Andrew asks not putting the pieces together even with Tobias holding the bouquet of flowers.
"Um yes sir, I'm here to pick up Tris, Ummm for our date," Tobias says shifting his weight on his feet.
"Oh, well come on in then," Andrew says, stepping aside to allow Tobias into their home. He had no idea Tris and Tobias were a thing or that after all these years that they were interested in each other.
"Tris, Tobias is here" Andrew calls.
"Honey, did you say, Tobias, was here? Sweetie, can you do me a favor and take this cake to your mother?" Natalie says as she comes out of the kitchen carrying a cake box but she stops when she sees Tobias holding a bouquet of flowers.
"I'll take it over to Ms. Evelyn tomorrow" Tris announces as she emerges from grabbing her purse and grabbing Tobias by the hand trying to breeze out the door before the questions start.
"Just a minute, Tris," Andrew states. Tris sighs, she had seen him do this with Lauren so she should have realized she wasn't going to escape it.
"Tobias honey, let me put those in some water, how lovely" Natalie gushes smiling as she takes the bouquet he was holding. She always thought he was a nice young man. She could see the connection between him and her youngest daughter even when they couldn't.
"How long has this been going on?" Andrew asks. Yes, Tris was 18 and leaving for college in a few months but he still wanted to know that she was safe and taken care of.
"Ummm, about a week" Tris offers.
"Tris why don't you help your mother with the flowers and give Tobias and me a minute alone"
Tris nods knowing it wasn't a request and gives Tobias an encouraging smile and two thumbs up behind her father's back before walking to the kitchen.
"I think you two look very nice together dear, you two have always been drawn to each other. You two will be good for each other" Natalie says as she cuts the stems off the flowers placing them into the vase.
"Really, you think so?" Tris was shocked, she wasn't expecting that from her mother.
"I do" Natalie smiles as she places her hand over Tris's and squeezes.
One night the following week, Tris opens her window when she sees Tobias climbing through the window to his bedroom. It was the night before National Signing Day. Tomorrow was going to be full of reporters and cameras. She was preparing for how overwhelming the entire day would be but she was more concerned with Tobias and how he was handling all the pressure. Tris could tell from the look on Tobias's face that telling his father that he was committing to Dauntless didn't go well.
She crawls into bed and Tobias kicks off his slides and takes off his shorts and t-shirt to crawl into bed with her.
"I take it that it didn't go well" Tris whispers as she settles against Tobias as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and leaned against the headboard. He silently played with one of her braids while she ran her fingers across his arm.
"Pop is pissed I won't pick Princeton or Duke. He thinks I'm only choosing Dauntless because that's where you are going and they started arguing about it, Ma being pissed at him for not considering my feelings which turned into her not appreciating him..yada yada yada." Tobias tells her after a few moments in a hushed tone.
"Well even if you didn't want to go to Dauntless, I would be okay, I would just miss being able to do this."
They had spent every night that week cuddled in her bed until the sun came up when he would slip back across the lawn.
"I did like Duke, the lineage of players like Grant Hill, Kyrie Irving, it's a good choice. It's a strong tournament contender too. But I really liked the head coach from Dauntless, he seemed not as stuffy as the others, and he gets that my goal is the get to the NBA, it's one of the good things about his program. Uriah's going too which is awesome because we are comfortable playing together. Plus Dauntless also has the potential to be a good contender within the tournament. I don't care about the prestige of Princeton or Harvard."
"If you feel comfortable with your choice, that's all that matters," Tris states matter of factly.
"Thank you for being in my corner," Tobias says looking down into her eyes. Even with the turmoil in his house, he felt like he could do anything now that he and Tris were together.
Tris leans up and gives him a kiss before they drift off to sleep. She hoped he was making the right decision for him and him alone.
Tris takes a few pictures as she signs her commitment papers for Dauntless on signing day. There are a few reporters that ask a few questions. Andrew, Natalie, and Caleb were all smiles. Lauren had class and couldn't make it but she had been blowing Tris up with text messages all morning.
By the time Tobias is ready to sign there are reporters and news cameras everywhere. Marcus seemed tense and Evelyn put on her NBA wife smile with her designer dress for the photos. Tobias insisted Tris stand right beside him on the opposite side of his parents. She squeezes his shoulder for encouragement when the three hats for Dauntless, Princeton, and Duke are placed in front of him. The crowd that was gathered erupts in a chorus of cheers when he reaches for the Duke fitted hat but then moves his hand to the Dauntless hat placing it on his head. He smiles before picking up the pen and signing his name.
It was official, Tris and Tobias were both playing college basketball at Dauntless University.
Tris grins as Tobias pulls her close to him. They had been studying for their finals when Tobias said he needed a break and they decided to go swimming. In the month since prom, the shock of their relationship status had seemed to be over around school even though some of the girls were still throwing themselves at Tobias. There were only three weeks left in their senior year and only final exams to take before graduation. With no basketball practice and both of their seasons officially over, they had been spending all their free time together.
Tobias had set up his portable speaker and he and Tris splashed around in the pool before they started kissing. Tris was a bit self-conscious in her new bikini Susan had talked her into buying for their senior trip to the Bahamas. The top accentuated her small breasts and it was a little more revealing than she was used to. She preferred boy shorts on the bottom but this was cut higher on the thigh. She had thicker thighs and a larger behind so she felt more confident about the bottoms.
Tobias had grinned as Tris squealed as he picked her up and threw her. Things had been so fun and free with her, they couldn't keep their hands off each other. Every time they started a one on one game the past two weeks it had ended up with them making out. The downside of them making their relationship public was that their parents were now watching them closely even though they were leaving for Dauntless at the end of the summer they still had to abide by their parents' rules. They were super careful about climbing through each other's windows now. They still squabble but usually end up kissing a few minutes later after disagreeing. It was oddly comfortable but addicting.
Tris swims back to him, not sure how she was going to overpower him to toss him in retribution. Instead of him tossing her again, he pulls her to him and begins kissing her.
"Tobias" Tris groans as she feels him press against her through his swimming trunks as he grips her thighs, hoists her up and she wraps her legs around his waist. Tobias was tall enough that he could still walk in the 5ft area of the pool as Tris held on. She puts her arms around his neck and leans down to kiss him. The kiss heats up quickly as they stand in the middle of the pool.
"I want you so much right now" Tobias breathes out when Tris pulls away.
"We are supposed to be studying for our Spanish exam," Tris teases as they bounce in the water. Tris was a good student, always on the honor roll. She didn't make straight A's like Caleb but she could hold her own if she applied herself. Tobias on the other hand was smart but he was spoiled being a star athlete. He didn't study nearly as hard as Tris. Tobias wasn't as concerned about studying as Tris was. He could get away with only passing three of his five classes and still graduate where Tris was committed to maintaining her GPA.
"Quiz me. Tell me something in Spanish and see if I get it right" Tobias says much preferring this to them actually going over questions in their textbook.
"Okay," Tris thinks for a moment, cocking her head to the side and then smiling. She goes over some basics she knows will be on the test. Tobias gets about half of them right. She decides to give him a little motivation to get back to studying.
"Besame," she says with an eyebrow raised and biting her lip.
She laughs when Tobias clearly doesn't know what she said.
"I'll give you a hint" Tris places a soft kiss on his lips and Tobias smiles against her lips.
"I need to remember that one"
"Okay, what about te desso ahora," Tris wiggles her eyebrows and shimmies her shoulders a bit.
"Does it have anything to do with kissing?" Tobias says playfully as he runs his hands over behind in the water and gives a squeeze.
He had slowly walked them closer to the shallower end of the pool. She adjusted her legs around him as he moved to sit on the steps that led into the pool so the water came up to just above their waists. Tobias took the opportunity to slip his hand between her legs. She gasps when his fingers slip inside the bottom of her bikini as he moves against her folds.
"Say it again," Tobias said in a low voice, never taking her eyes off Tris. She felt like she was drowning as he kept his gaze on her. She gasped as she felt her core tighten as his fingers continued their exploration.
"Te desso ahora," she moans, shifting her arms around his neck. This time he leans in and kisses her lips. Tris keeps her balance by gripping his shoulders. She spread her legs a little further and he put another hand on the small of her back to steady her as she leaned back into the water.
"That's so sexy, Baby," he praises. Tobias keeps his motions slow and steady as Tris begins to reach her peak. He moved so his back was on the wall and he used his thumb to move circles on her clit while he sucked on her neck.
He smiles against her skin, making patterns with his tongue when she finally lets go. Tobias moves his hand to untie her bikini top but her eyes go wide when she feels the fabric fall.
"Tobias, what if someone sees us" Tris eeks out. She had gotten lost in Tobias, even though they were in the pool she hadn't been thinking about that they were outside.
"There's a privacy fence, Tris, and my mom won't be home until later. She's at some event downtown. Pop is out of town on a road trip." Tobias had done this with another girl so he knew no one could see but definitely wasn't about to bring that up and ruin the mood.
Tris bites her lip but she sees the look on his face and nods indicating she was okay with it.
Tobias goes back to kissing Tris and she lets herself relax. He plays with her nipples and she can't stop the moans. Tobias slides off her bottoms and his swim trunks.
"Is this okay?" he asks as he moves himself over her entrance. Tris had gone on the pill as soon as they started sleeping together. She made Tobias get an STD test too but they had still been using condoms though just to be sure even though they were in the clear with the timeframe.
"Yeah" Tris nods, excited to finally experience him with no barrier.
Tobias pulls her down on him. They both groan with pleasure at the feeling. The weightless feeling Tris has from the water adds to the feeling of Tobias being inside of her. Tobias grips her close. Tobias had come to love watching her like this. Her chest heaving as she moved against him. Tris was always alive on the basketball court, in control and fierce. But like this, it was as if she was putting everything on him, to guide her, and let go, giving him the control. It made him want to see her like this more and more. She was the one person he could fully trust and let go with too.
"You feel so damn good, Tris," Tobias grunts.
"Tobias, I'm about to…" she breathes as he moves his hand to brace himself on the step. The water sloshes as he moves faster and Tris holds on to him tightly as they climax together. Tris slumps against him as she comes back down.
"I know we should be studying but that was worth the study break" Tris sighs as she leans back to look at him.
"I'll distract you anytime," Tobias says with a grin.
After getting out of the pool and cleaning up. Tris puts on one of Tobias's t-shirts that hangs down to her knees and slightly off the shoulder and a pair of shorts she had on before they went swimming so they could finish studying. Tobias tries to convince Tris that fooling around would be more fun, but she doesn't let him distract her again like he did earlier. They are at the kitchen table hard at work when Evelyn comes home.
"Well If you two dating is what it took to get Tobias to study more, I am sad it took you two this long to get together," Evelyn says playfully as she walks in the door and throws her Gucci bag on the kitchen island.
"Hey Ms. Evelyn" Tris laughs out, setting her flashcards down on the table.
"Really Ma" Tobias replied with an eye roll.
"Tris, are you staying for dinner?" Evelyn asks as she pulls out her phone. "I was going to order Chinese"
"Sure, that would be great," Tris replies politely as she texts her mother that she would be eating dinner with Evelyn and Tobias.
Tris always liked Evelyn. She had noticed over the years that Evelyn and her mother were nothing alike even though they were both stay-at-home moms. Evelyn always had flashy designer clothes and her BMW, but she loved her son fiercely. Natalie Prior cooked every day and made every meal from scratch and usually wore simple yet elegant clothing preferring not to splurge on things of that nature. Andrew kept trying to upgrade her car but she happy with her minivan. In all the years Tris lived next door, she hadn't really seen Evelyn do more than put a frozen lasagna in the oven or heat up leftovers from a restaurant. She often asked Natalie to just make extra cookies or cakes for school functions. Tobias had eaten his fair share of meals at the Priors or the Pedrads as Hana and Natalie were more than happy to have someone who appreciated her cooking compared to her kids who wanted to eat pizza on the weekends like their friends.
Tris makes Tobias study until dinner arrives. While they eat, Evelyn chit-chats about her charity event and graduation then asks Tris about her plans for Dauntless.
"I'm going to have to work hard but I'm excited. Coach Wu is a legend and they have a really good broadcast journalism program too"
"That's really good sweetheart. Someone else I know needs to think about what he wants to major in" Evelyn says as she glares at her son.
"I know, I know" Tobias sighs. He was going to get around to it over the summer.
After dinner, Tris and Tobias curl up in the den to watch a movie. It was easier for them to hang out at the Eaton's home. Evelyn trusted Tris so much more than the other girls that were interested in her son. She knew Tris had a good heart and was determined and driven. She knew Tris wasn't after Tobias for all the wrong reasons. She usually let them be unlike Natalie who could tend to hover.
"You two don't stay up too late" Evelyn calls as she heads to her bedroom.
"Good Night, Ms. Evelyn"
Tris looked at her watch. It was just after 9, she would have to make an appearance back at home for her curfew at 11.
"What are we watching?"
"Let's see, how about The Photograph, you like Issa Rae," Tobias says looking at the channel guide.
"Umm how about we watch the Knicks and the Bulls instead? You know it's the playoffs" Tris offers trying to fight back a smile. She knew Tobias was trying to be thoughtful, she did love Issa Rae but she really would prefer to watch NBA playoffs than a movie.
Tobias lets out a hearty laugh and changes the channel.
"I forgot who I was talking to, you know we still really need to get you a new team" Tobias teases since he was a Charlotte Hornets fan.
Tris grins as she settles in closer to him and he puts his arm around her waist so she could snuggle into his side. Tris was the only girl he could do this with. All the girls he had before her, never cared about the actual game of basketball or even remotely liked any of the same things. He admits he sat through too many chick flicks just to get somewhere at the end of the night. He smiles as he looks over at Tris who is huffing about a miss call and detailing out where she could see problems with the play being executed. Her hair was pulled up into a curly bun on top of her head. Even though she had on a pair of her basketball shorts that fit her frame, she still had on one of the team shirts with his number on the back she was absolutely beautiful. She was the one who he could completely be himself with even when she pushed his buttons.
"What?" She asks looking up at him after noticing him staring at her.
"Nothing, I'm just happy we are together"
"Me too" she whispers quietly as she bites her lip. He leans down to give her a soft kiss before leaning back on the sofa cushions.
"Te Amo" he whispers in her ear. He'd known he was in love with her probably even before they were officially together. It was odd, their relationship had always been dynamic even if some of it had been couched in animosity and competitiveness because they were both afraid to admit how they felt. Tobias was amazed at how easily they fell into being with each other and how he had quickly let himself be all in with Tris.
She sits up and turns her head to look at him and make sure she heard him right. "Really?"
Was this reality? Tobias loved her? This was the most amazing feeling, the closest thing she could describe it like was being in the zone of the basketball court. She felt light and free.
He nods and says with an attitude as he poked her playfully in her side. "I told you I was paying attention."
Tris giggles and kisses him. "I love you too"
"I've never told anyone that before Tris, It's me and you, I feel like as long as I have you, that's all I need"
"I feel the same way" Tris sighs as she turns to sit in his lap so she could hug him tightly to her.
Two months ago she would have never thought that she and Tobias would be here like this. Her life had changed so much, she still wanted the same things but the thought of Tobias being there beside her was a feeling that she couldn't describe yet.
