Later that night...

"Gabriela Dawson... I have a delivery for you...", Voight announced as approached the cell she was in.

She didn't move while she listened to him, she had been sitting down on the bench hugging her knees for about an hour...

Voight unlocked the cell door and pulled it open, walking in he put a brown paper bag next to her feet. "Cat got your tongue? Where is that attitude you showed me in the interrogation room?" Voight smirked.

Gabby turned her head away from him, "Leave me alone...".

"Okay...", he watched her as he stepped backward, "I keep my word... tomorrow morning you are getting out of here...".

"Whatever...", Gabby mumbled.

"Eat your food, I promised your friend you've been treated right despite your bad mouth earlier...".

Voight turned back to leave...

"What friend?" Gabby asked. "I didn't tell anyone I was here...".

Heading out of the cell..."Do you have many friends?" he locked the cell again as he looked at her. "The firefighter, he put in a good word for you, nevertheless my station, my rules...".

Next day...

Distracted, Gabby was walking down the stairs of District 21 when suddenly Casey appeared at the bottom of the stairs...

"Would you quit showing up unexpectedly?" Gabby asked bored as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"I can't make any promises...", he responded when she got closer to him. "Are you hungry? There is a cafeteria nearby...", he looked around, then looked back at her, "You can eat anything you want...", he smiled softly at her.

"Thank you, but I'm not hungry, I'm tired... I'm going home", she gave him a tight smile, but before she could start to walk towards the bus station, Matt extended his arm to block her path.

"We need to talk, you know that... Katya was killed, and Dominic is out there planning his next move... we have to keep you safe...".

He seemed genuinely concerned, Gabby thought. "Look, I can take care of myself... I appreciate your concern, however I can't allow myself the luxury of being stuck at home or whatever when I have to work to put food on the table,... and don't treat me like a child... stop this... all this...", she waved her hands in the air frustrated. "I don't need you trying to save me... whatever is this, you have to stop...".

"We are friends... usually friends have each others back... Why are you being so defensive?" he narrowed his eyes at her.

Gabby shook her head avoiding his look, biting her lower lip...

"Are you okay? because I'm not, I've been a bundle of nerves since Antonio told me all this...". He watched as her face softened, without thinking he cradled her face between his hands, "Whatever you need, I'm here... I need you to know that...".

Gabby's eyes studied his face, he was being honest with her, though she knew she shouldn't depend on him, it'd be a risk to throw herself into the unknown... Stepping back, "Like I said I appreciate your gesture, Matt... you have been a good friend, maybe I don't deserve it...", she shrugged. "... I'm sorry... I have a lot going on and bringing you into this, it's not right...", she looked down.

"I know you are feeling overwhelmed... but don't push me, don't ask me to stay away from you...".

Gabby lifted her head, fixing her gaze on him, "... I'm going home... I barely slept last night... my back hurts... we talk later, okay...", giving him a half-smile.

"I'll take you... come on...", before she could decline, Matt slid his arm around her, and this time she didn't fight him.

...

Gabby woke up with Matt calling her name... confused, "How did we get home so quickly?"

Standing outside by the passenger door of his car, "I brought you to my house, you can take a shower, eat something, sleep for a couple of hours, later I'll take you home-", Gabby interjected.

"Please take me to my house or I'll call a cab-", Matt opened the passenger door.

"I left my shift two hours ago, I am exhausted, we are not arguing over this, I thought we had passed all that, therefore we are gonna do what I am saying... come on...".

"Matt... you can't force me to-", she gasped when Matt pulled her into his arms, closing the door with his foot. "Casey, are you crazy?"

"Yeah... please, don't get mad...", he said as he carried her in his arms to the front door.

Looking into her eyes, "I'll put you down, but don't make me run after you...", he looked dead serious. "We both need to rest for a few hours...".

"Okay... put me down...", Gabby replied.

Standing her on her feet, Matt unlocked his front door... minutes later Gabby was in the bathroom in the guest room, taking a nice shower while Matt prepared breakfast...

During the meal they barely spoke to each other... they both washed the dishes... then Gabby went to her room, and Matt stayed behind... leaning against the counter, embracing himself... Matt was trying to think of something to convince Gabby to stay a few days with him until Dominic was behind bars...

"Matt...".

He turned around to face her, "Are you okay?" he walked up to her.

"I-", the doorbell rang. "You are expecting someone?"

"No, I'm gonna check, stay here...", he said as going to the living room, through the peephole he saw Brett.

Opening the door, "Hey... Morning, I called you a few times...", she showed him her phone screen.

"I turned it off, I was going to bed... we had a long shift...", he explained as looked behind him, towards the kitchen...

"Of course...", an awkward silence fell upon them, "I've missed you, I'm not gonna lie... you know since our night together...".

It had been at the back of his mind to call her, but Antonio's visit to the Firehouse changed it for him, feeling ashamed, he stepped aside to let her walk into his house...

He led her to the kitchen, Gabby wasn't there...

"I didn't have breakfast...", Brett declared when she saw some pancakes on a plate on the kitchen table.

"Please, make yourself comfortable, there is juice in the fridge... I need to check on something...", he left her alone and headed down to the hallway.

Out of Brett's sight, he knocked softly at Gabby's room..., "Gabby... hey... Gabby...", he turned the door handle, but the door was locked. "Gabby...", he whispered, but he didn't get any response.

20 minutes later... Gabby sneaked out while Matt was with Brett in his bedroom... a couple of minutes later, Matt went to her room again, this time he found the door wide open... there was a note on the side table...

I can protect myself, you worry too much. By the way, she seems like a nice girl, Bye.

Later that night...

"Gabby, please, open the door... I brought you pizza your favorite...".

She was standing closer to the kitchen counter as Matt kept knocking and calling her name...

"Why can't he just leave me alone?" Gabby murmured to herself as holding a can of beer, wearing only underwear and an oversized gray t-shirt that barely reached her thighs.

"Gabby... it's pouring rain outside... please...", he looked down at himself, even his shoes were wet inside.

She gulped her beer as moved towards the front door, leaned her back against it, "You should have known better and not come here, since it's raining cats and dogs...".

"Thank you for acknowledging my presence this time...", he mumbled sarcastically. "At least take the pizza... I don't mind waiting here until the rain stops...", he sighed and turned his back to the door.

A few seconds later... Gabby pulled the door open... "Pepperoni and Pineapple?"

Matt turned back to face her, "Your favorite... it's cold, though... here", he gave her the pizza.

Gabby took it and entered her apartment, "Come in... I'll get you a towel...".

A bit shocked, he stood outside for a moment before he stepped across the threshold, his clothes were soaking wet.

Gabby walked out of her bedroom and threw him a towel... "You can use the bathroom in my room... I left a t-shirt and pants for you there...".

"Thank you...", he took a moment to observe her... "I won't take long...".

Gabby peeked at him as put some slices of the pizza in the oven..., "I'm not going anywhere...".

Minutes later, he returned... wiping his hair with the towel, wearing the clothes Gabby had left for him.

"Would you like a beer?"

"Yeah, thanks...", he sat at the counter, there were two plates with pizza on them.

Gabby gave him a beer, then sat down next to him, she started to eat her pizza, and Matt picked up his slice and straightened it to take a bite...

"Can I ask you something?" Gabby glanced at him.

Matt nodded as he munched on his pizza...

"Who is the girl in the photo in your spare room?" Gabby sipped her beer. "It's not the girl I saw this morning in your home".

Looking at her, "My fiancee, Hallie, she-she died last year...", Matt drank his beer.

"I'm so sorry, Matt...", she touched his arm.

"Hallie was a doctor at a clinic, she accidentally discovered that there was someone trafficking drugs within the clinic... he murdered her and set fire to the place to cover it...".

"Wow, I-I don't know what to say...", she felt suffocated for a little while... nothing could ease the pain of losing someone, beloved one...

"I felt guilty and useless for a long time after her death, I tried to imagine a million ways that I could save her-".

Matt's confession hit Gabby hard, "So this is what it's all about?

Matt raised his eyebrows, "Gab-".

"I'm not Hallie, you know that, right? If you are here to save me from Dominic or whatever threat that might come to my way to redeem yourself with Hal-", he cut her off.

"I'm not doing that... I had a hard time moving forward and letting go of my past with Hallie, but my mind is in the right place now, that guilt that I carried for months doesn't exist anymore..., I loved her with everything in me, she knew that...".

Gabby embraced herself, "You are dating again, so it means you thinking of the future...".

"Yeah... maybe...", he said not feeling so sure about her statement.

"'Your girlfriend is beautiful, perfect actually...".

"Then we have a problem, because I'm not perfect, and I'm not looking for it in a girl...", he sipped his beer as kept his gaze on her.

"None of my relationships last more than a few days, so I haven't much to say on the matter...", she tittered as diverted her eyes.

Matt tilted his head, "You are not serious, right?" he bit his lower lip as watching her. "Gabby?" he crossed his arms over his chest.

"Not everyone is like you, who meets nice girls, moreover I'm not girlfriend material or wife material, Matt... I'm okay with that... I have accepted my fate...".

His eyes scrutinized her face.

"You are the one who believes in fairy tales, not me...", Gabby went back to eat her pizza.

...

Matt and Gabby were sharing her bed that night, the rain hadn't stopped and the power has gone out... it didn't seem right to send Matt home or make him sleep on her small couch...

"Are you awake?" Matt was lying on his back, staring up as he had a hand laying on his chest.

"Yeah... I thought you were already asleep...", Gabby was lying on her side, her back to him, a blanket was covering her thighs.

"When you implied you never had a boyfriend, it means you-", she cut in.

"I'm not a virgin, Matt, if you are wondering... what I meant earlier is my relationship doesn't last enough to call any guy a boyfriend...".

"You licked my thumb as an expert, I never would think of you as a virgin", he peeked at her as he snickered.

Gabby rolled her eyes, "Don't make me kick you out of my bed, Matthew Casey... don't push your luck...".

Silence fell between them, after a few minutes...

"Blondie is your first date after Hallie?"

"No, I had a few dates before her, but with Brett, I felt it was time to move on from Hallie...".

"Move on... It's easy to say, don't you think?" her tone serious. "We never really move on... our past, it is always there...".

Matt glanced at her... "Tell me why you think like that...", he touched her back gently.

"You don't know what you are asking for, Matt...", she scoffed.

"I'm ready for anything you would like to tell to me...", shifting on the bed, Matt had his elbow on the bed, resting his head on his hand.

Suddenly the bedside lamp was on, the power came back on...

"Gabby... hey...", he spoke softly.

Turning around to face him... they locked eyes... Matt couldn't deny he was attracted to her... it has been hard to think straight since they bumped into each other.

Matt rubbed her cheek, Gabby turned her face to kiss his palm while staring at him... Matt closed the gap between them with a kiss on her lips, he pulled away to see her reaction, one second later she kissed him with the same intensity...

They kissed passionately as Matt pulled her to straddle his hips, their hands roamed each other's body...

Minutes had passed and Matt had tightened his grip on her backside...

Gasps and moans escaped from her mouth as she kept her hands pressed against his hard chest...Through his pants, she could feel his erection...

Matt moved his lips over her chin, going to her throat, kissing and licking her skin...

Gabby couldn't resist and slid her hand into his pants, she stroked his shaft, her hand wrapped around him made it hard for Matt to breathe, to think...

His lips took hers one more time, slipping his tongue into her mouth...

Lifting her t-shirt, Matt threw it somewhere... he massaged her breasts... then wrapping his arms around her, he brought her naked chest closer to his lips...

"Oooh...", Gabby groaned as Matt sucked her nipples eagerly, her arms were around his head, keeping his lips where she wanted them while she was grinding their lower parts...

Matt turned them around, Gabby was lying on her back as Matt was between her legs... smiling at each other... their breathing heavy...

"It's only you and me...", Matt declared, "... nothing else matter until tomorrow morning...", he nodded softly.

"You and me...", she repeated as pushed his pants down...

I should advise y'all... before things start to fall into place, our beloved couple will give us a bit of headache...
