Chapter 5:

How it all began

00000000

It was a peaceful evening at Luna Nova as the students ate their dinners in peace. At Akko's table everyone was eating expect Yue and Akko. Akko currently was nose deep in a protection spell book. As after what happened with Hanna and Barbara, she couldn't take the same risk again.

Akko then put the book down as she had a good understanding of how to cast the spell. She looked at Yue who was currently sitting on the book as he and Kero were taking turns guarding it.

Lotte saw Akko wasn't reading and spoke up. "Akko, why not just use the SHIELD card?" She asked Akko who just sighed.

"I could, but I can't have SHEILD up all the time. That would drain my magic. What if I need all of it to transform a card? If I cast a proception spell I don't have to worry about running out of power." Explained Akko as Sucy added her two cents.

"But those spells can be broken." She told Akko.

"I know, but what other choice do I have?" Akko asked them as she added. "I can't have someone guarding the book 24/7."

Hearing that both admitted that Akko had a good point as neither one had a different option for her.

But before anyone could say anything another team approached them.

In the lead was a girl with short orange hair with salmon undertones. Her eyebrows were orange as well and she had green eyes. Next to her was a short girl with long navy-blue hair that reached to her waist and was tied in low ponytail with a red ribbon. Their last member had long pale pink hair that went to her waist and was divided into two braids tied with peach colored bows. But two things stood out for her. First her eyes were closed and second she was eating a bag of chips not from the school.

All three of them wore the Luna Nova uniform and had green sashes on.

"Hi there, I'm Amanda O'Neil." Said the now identified Amanda. "And this is Constanze Amalie von Braunschbankalbrechtsberger and Jasminka Antonenko." Said Amanda as she pointed to the short one first and then to her teammate eating the chips.

"Hi, I'm…" Started Akko only to be cut off by Amanda.

"Everyone knows who you are Akko." She told her as Akko nervously chuckled.

"I guess your right." Admitted Akko as she added. "So, is there anything I can do for you?"

"Actually yes." Said Amanda as she grinned. "It's actually something everyone in the school probably wants to know as well."

Hearing that Akko wondered what it was. "What is it?" She asked curiously.

"How'd it all start." Said Amanda as Akko looked confused, so she clarified. "How'd you find the book and how did it all start?"

As soon as the word left her mouth the room went quite as everyone wanted to know. Akko looked at Kero as he tried to eat more of her dinner.

"I don't see why not." Said Akko as it wasn't a secret anymore.

"Fine but skip over that one part." Said Kero as Akko grinned.

"You mean the part where you messed up." Retorted Akko as Kero choked on his food.

"Oh, no its where you messed up." Kero told her as he flew into Akko's face as the two glared at each other.

"I would also like to know how it all started." Said Yue as they hadn't told him the whole story yet.

Hearing that the two parted as Akko made herself comfortable. "Amanda you and your team better get comfy it's a bit of a long story."

Hearing that Amanda and her team sat nearby as everyone listened in on the story.

"Let's see it happened around a year ago. I was just heading home from school…" Started Akko as she told the story.

00000000

Akko's hometown Tomoeda, around one year ago

In the town of Tomoeda Akko was heading home from school still dressed in the school uniform consisting of a black long-sleeved shirt with white sleeve cuffs and a white shirt.

Akko had just finished school as she felt odd all day. Ever since this morning when she had that weird dream of her wearing a pink outfit holding some type of staff with that stuff animal by her side. The weird thing was it was raining cards.

All throughout the day Akko couldn't get that dream out of her head. She was lucky that her friend Tomoyo helped her out when the teacher called on her.

Soon Akko reached her home, a simple two-story house with a basement. She soon entered her home and was meet with silence. The reason being both her parents were gone for the night as they went to an award ceremony in the next town over for her father's work.

As Akko put her stuff away, she heard a weird sound. It sounded like something was trying to move. Scared Akko grabbed the nearest object to her, which ironically was her shiny rod collector item.

Akko slowly walked forward as she heard the noise again. This time she could tell it was coming from the basement. She slowly opened the door and saw the lights were off. She then turned them on and started to make her way down slowly.

"Who ever is down here, just know I'm armed." Said Akko as she then reached the bottom of the stair.

When she heard nothing, she let out a breath of relief. That's when she heard the noise again, this time louder. Scared she looked around, but all she saw were shelves filled with books.

'Why did dad have to make the basement his library?' Thought Akko as she walked forward. While the basement was small it was filled with shelves and a ton of books. She passed her dad's work desk as she looked down the last row of shelves and saw nothing.

"Thank god." Said Akko as she was glad it was no one. But as soon as she said that she heard another sound and it sounded like it was coming in front of her.

Confused Akko walked forward as she left her staff on her father's desk. As she walked, she looked around thinking her cat got stuck down here. But when she reached the end of the row, she didn't see any sign of her cat. But she then looked at the shelve before her as a weird red book caught her eye. It was almost like it was calling out to her.

She then pulled it out and looked at it. The cover was red and in the centre of the cover was a lion with wings that had chains around it with the sun connecting to the chains. But two things stood out for Akko the first was the title of the book 'The Clow'. Akko for some weird reason thought it was the real book of the Clow but dismissed it. It was most likely a book that was about Cloud Reeds life, since her father studied him on the side.

The second thing that stood out was a latch on the side of the book. Seeing this confused Akko as why a book would need a latch on it.

As Akko looked at the book a part of her wanted to open it. Then to her surprised the latch came off on it's own. Seeing this surprised Akko as she almost dropped the book.

Now her curiosity had to be satisfied as she opened the book and to her shock, she saw the inside was hollow with what looked like a deck on cards inside.

"It can't be." Said Akko as she took the top card and turned it around as it looked like an elegant woman that almost looked like a fairy. She had long hair that was divided on both ends that went from her head to her feet. And what looked like wings covering her.

"WINDY." Said Akko as her English was improving. She then started to walk towards the stairs, but with each step she took a slight gust of wind would appear when her foot touched the floor.

Then to Akko's shock the card glowed, and Cloud Reed's magic circle appeared under her, as a huge gust of wind came out of no where surrounding her. Akko braced herself as she held onto the book and the card as the wind circled around her. But as Akko had her eyes closed the wind started to pick up the other cards as they went flying and shot out of Akko's house like shooting stars.

When Akko opened her eyes, she saw the last of the cards leaving the book as the wind finally died down. Akko then dropped the book as it fell to the ground with the cover facing up. She then fell to her knees from the shock of what just happened as she then looked at the WINDY card with wide eyes.

"You're the real thing." Akko said to herself in shock as she never thought she would have the real deal in her hands.

Then the book started to glow surprising Akko again. As she wondered what was happening now. Then from the cover of the book Kero floated out as Akko could only watch in shock and awe.

Kero then opened his eyes as he then spoke. "Hey, what's up!"

Akko could only stare wide eyed at Kero as this was the last thing she thought he would say.

"Well I'm surprised that you were able to wake me up!" Said Kero as Akko was for once speechless.

Akko was then able to find her voice. "What are you?" She asked unsure if this was real or not.

Hearing that Kero fell onto the book as he stood up. "I'm Kerberos, the beast of the seal who guards this book." Said Kero with pride in his voice.

"Wait, you're Kerberos!" Said a shocked and confused Akko as she remembered what her father told her. Kerberos is supposed to be a large lion with long wings on his back, not some stuffed toy.

"Yeah." Answered a confused Kero. "Don't you believe me?"

"It's just I heard Kerberos was a large lion with wings, not a stuffed toy." Akko told him with a chuckle.

Hearing that Kero fell over again as he slowly got up. "Well you try being sealed in a book! A smaller form helps with space." Said Kero with a frown.

"Wait why were you in the book again?" Asked Akko as she wasn't sure.

"Looking out for the cards in this book, so they don't do anything bad is my…" Said Kero as he got off the book as it flipped over as the empty inside faced Akko. When Kero turned his head, he stopped as he gasped at what he saw.

Kero then screamed as the book was empty as he searched every corner of it in disbelief. "The cards are gone! Where did they go?!" He cried as Akko looked nervous.

"I have one right here." She told Kero as she held out the WINDY card.

"The WINDY card!" Cheered Kero as he took the card in joy.

"And the other cards." Asked Kero thinking Akko has them.

Akko looked nervous as she knew she couldn't lie to him about them. "Well I read WINDY's name and there was a huge gust of wind and then the cards went flying out of my house." Akko told him as she finished with a chuckle.

"I see." Said Kero as he gave a chuckle too. Then his expression changed to one of horror.

"What!?" He screamed as he flew into Akko's face.

"Wait!" Said Amanda as she interrupted the story. "You mean to say you accidently scattered all the Cloud cards except for WINDY?"

Around them Akko could hear people mumbling as she also saw looks of disbelief on some faces.

"In my defence I wasn't excepting the book of the Cloud to be in my basement. I honestly thought it was some copy my father got." Defended Akko as a lot of people agreed with her as she added. "And anyway, it's more Kero's fault. He was asleep on the job."

Hearing that Kero face faulted. "How it my fault for closing my eyes for a bit?" He asked Akko as he got up.

"For 30 years?" Countered Akko as Kero flew up to her face.

"Oh yeah I wasn't the one who activated a card without realizing it." Kero told her as the two started to argue about who's fault it was.

Seeing this nearly everyone was surprised at how the two were fighting. Amanda then leaned over to Lotte.

"Do they do this a lot?" Amanda asked her.

"No, but I've never seen them fight like this." Lotte told her as the two were still going strong.

"Enough." Said Holbrooke as she and some of the staff were sitting at another table listening to the story.

Seeing the teachers there surprised everyone as they were so into the story, they failed to see them there.

"Both of you are at fault." Said Holbrooke surprising Akko and Kero as Holbrooke explained. "Miss Kagari should had never read the WINDY card name and Kerberos shouldn't have been asleep for so long."

Hearing that both Kero and Akko looked at each other before agreeing to stop this argument for now.

"Now then please continue." Said Holbrooke as she wanted to hear more.

"Ok." Said Akko as she remembered where she left off. "Let's see after I opened the book and the cards were shattered. I had my dinner while Kero was checking out my house and seeing if he could find the cards."

00000000

Akko's hometown Tomoeda, around one year ago

Akko quickly made and ate her dinner as she also cleaned up fast. Once done changed her clothes and wore red shorts and a white t-shirt. She then went into her room as she saw Kero floating above the book of the Clow as he had a golden aura around him.

"Any luck?" Asked Akko as she sat down on her bed.

"No good." Said Kero as he stopped glowing and sat down on the book. "I can't tell where the cards at all."

Hearing that Akko had to know something. "How bad could it get?" She asked him

Kero looked at her with a grim face. "Real bad. Each card has a great power on there own and if they run wild it will lead to disasters all over the world. We have to get the cards back!"

"Then what can I do to help?" Asked Akko as she was reasonable for some of this.

"Glad you said that." Said Kero as he then looked at Akko with a critical eye as he saw something wrong with her.

"What's wrong with your magic?" He asked her confusing Akko.

"What do you mean?" She asked him not sure what he was talking about.

Kero then floated over to her as he then started to circle her. "Your magic, it feels like its been tampered with." He told her as this was peculiar.

"How is that possible?" Asked a shocked and worried Akko as she never even knew something was wrong with her magic.

"I wish I knew, but this sort of thing doesn't happen naturally." Kero honestly told her as he wondered what happened.

"Can you fix it?" Akko asked him as she had no idea what this could mean for her.

"Yeah, it's an easy fix if you know what to do." Kero told her as Akko felt better. "Now lay down on you face."

Akko did just that as Kero floated above her. "Now this may hurt a bit." Warned Kero as he then dropped kicked Akko in the back. Akko's head shot up from the sensation as Kero hit another point on her back.

This continued for a few more drop kicks. Once done Akko rubbed her back in pain, but she then felt it. It wasn't like a wave hit her, but more like when water hitting the shore. And she felt the water slowly raising.

"That's better." Said Kero with a smile as he floated back to the book.

"Thank you." Was all Akko could say as she had never felt this way before. "What did you do anyway?"

"An ancient form of pressure points that helps with one magic. But if you hit the wrong spot in the wrong order it could make you lose your magic." Kero told her with a stern face as Akko gulped hearing that.

"Any way back to business, what is your name?" Asked Kero.

"Its Atsuko Kagari. But you can call me Akko." Akko told him as Kero nodded.

"All right Akko. Stand over there." Ordered Kero as Akko stood where he was pointing.

Kero then started to glow again as Akko's room got dark, until she could only see herself, Kero, the book and Cloud Reed's magic symbol under her.

"Key of the seal." Started Kero as an orb of light came out of the latch on the book as it floated up. Inside the orb was some sort of object, but due to how bright the orb was Akko couldn't see it. The orb then flew over to Akko who stood there unsure what to do.

"There is someone wishing for a contract with you. A girl. Her name is Akko. Oh key, grant her the power! RELEASE!" Said Kero as the orb of light exploded blinding Akko.

Akko could then see some sort of staff before her. The staff had a pink rod, while the top was shaped like a bird's head with red gems for eyes on both sides and for a beak. It also had tiny wings attached the eyes on the back of the staff.

"Akko grab the staff." Kero told her as Akko could barely see the staff.

But Akko was never one to back down from a challenge as she slowly walked towards it, until it was right in front of her. She reached out and grabbed it as it somehow shined in her hand.

"All right! It's the birth of a Cardcaptor!" Cheered Kero as the room went back to normal.

Akko looked at the staff in her hands as it was the same one from her dream the night before.

Some time later after Kero told Akko how to use the staff. Akko was siting on her bed as she held the WINDY card and her staff as it was now a key. Near her Kero was bouncing on her bed with a smile at how fluffy it was.

Akko then looked at Kero and was about to say something when a strong wind hit her house as it shook a little. Feeling this Akko was confused by such a gust of wind as she and Kero went to her window as looked out. That's when they saw it. Flying over head was a giant bird. It was pale in colour with a long neck.

"What is that?!" Asked a shocked Akko as she had never seen a bird like that before.

"A Clow card." Answered Kero as this surprised Akko. "That's probably the FLY card."

Akko continued to stare at it as Kero spoke up. "This is no time to be impressed! Hurry up!" He told her as Akko got moving.

Akko was glad it was late at night so not many people were up, but she knew those who saw the FLY might report it and who know what could happen.

Currently Akko was racing over to it wearing her rollerblades and padding as Kero flew beside her as they saw it landed. The FLY then moved it wings gently, but it somehow created a huge gust of wind the caused creaks in windows to form and nearly took Akko off her feet.

"What a strong wind." Said Akko as she did her best to move forward.

Soon the two stopped as they saw the FLY card before them as Akko saw how big it really was.

"So, I use the staff to turn it back into a card right?" Asked Akko as she was nervous.

"That's right." Said Kero as that's when FLY started to flap its wings.

Akko and Kero saw FLY then get into the air as Akko quickly got out her key.

"Oh, key that conceals the power of darkness, reveal your true nature to me, by my power, I command you, release!" Said Akko as the key turned into the staff as Cloud Reed magic symbol was beneath her. Akko then gave her staff a twirl as she got ready.

"All right, Akko." Said Kero as he was ready. "The FLY card is attributed to wind. You should be able to capture it with the WINDY card you have now."

"Ok." Said Akko as she got ready, but unfortunately for her FLY was already ready as it flew towards her.

Seeing this Akko and Kero ducked as FLY flew over them. The two got up and saw FLY coming back around. With little time Akko skated forward as she ducked again as FLY barely flew over her.

"Akko use the WINDY card!" Yelled Kero as they didn't have much time as FLY was coming back.

"There's no time." Cried Akko as she skated away as she was barely staying ahead of FLY.

"Akko you got to do something." Said Kero as he knew they couldn't keep this pace up forever.

Akko continued to skate as she got an idea. She then skated faster as she pulled ahead of Kero. She then skated along the stone wall near them and as she neared the top, she saw she was above the FLY and the next thing she did was jump off the wall and land on FLY's back. Akko fumbled a bit as she rolled on FLY's back before she caught herself.

FLY felt Akko on it's back and didn't like it. So, it then flew higher in the air as Kero watched in worry.

Akko made sure she had a good grip on FLY's back as she then pulled out the WINDY card.

"Wind, become a binding chain." Said Akko as she tossed the card before her as the magic seal appeared under her. "WINDY!" As soon as Akko said that the card came back her way as she used her staff on it as she activated the card.

The card glowed as the woman on the picture came out of the card. WINDY then flew forward as she made chains made out of wind that surrounded and trapped FLY. With the wind chains on it's body FLY couldn't stay airborne as it then crashed.

Once on the ground Akko skated away from it unharmed. Once a safe distance she turned around and face it.

"Return to the form you originally came from, Clow Card!" Said Akko as she brought her safe down as a card formed on the beak. With FLY it started to get sucked into the card until nothing was left.

Once done the FLY card fell to the ground as Akko fell to her knees as she couldn't believe what she went through.

"And that is how I found the book and captured my first card." Finished Akko as everyone started to clap. But with the teachers Holbrooke had a frown on her face.

"So all that happened in one night?" Asked Amanda amazed.

"Well I might have gotten some of the smaller detail wrong, but yeah. That's what happened when I found the book." Said Akko as she would never forget that night.

"What happened after that?" Asked Lotte as she wanted to hear more.

"Well Kero then showed me how to use the FLY card. After that I was flying through the air for hours." Said Akko as she loved that night.

"I know right." Said Amanda with a grin on her face. "Nothing is better than the feeling of the wind on your face."

"Yeah." Agreed Akko.

"Where all the captures like that?" Asked Sucy curious.

"No. Some were easy, some were tricky and some were very dangerous." Akko told her as she remembered some of her captures.

"Well you'll all have to wait for another night to hear more." Said Holbrooke as she stood up. "Unfortunately Miss Kagari story took up your dinner hour."

Hearing that many students looked at the time and saw she was right.

"But just for tonight I will let you all have an extra half hour to finish your meals." Holbrooke told them as many students went to their meals. Seeing this Holbrooke went over to Akko's table.

"Miss Kagari my I speak to your guardian in private?" Holbrooke asked her as Akko swallowed her food.

"Sure, but it's up to them." Akko told her as Kero and Yue looked at each other and nodded.

"Sure." Said Kero as they floated over to her. Holbrooke motioned them to follow her as they stepped out of the cafeteria.

"Did you ever find out what cause Miss Kagari magic to be tampered with?" Holbrooke asked as she got right to the point.

"No." Said Kero as without a point of reference when it started, they would have no idea what caused it.

Hearing that made Holbrooke frown as tampered magic was unheard before now. And she sincerely doubted that Akko would lie about such a thing. But without knowing how it happened they had nothing to go on.

Meanwhile back in the cafeteria Akko was about done her meal when Amanda spoke up.

"Still I'm amazed the Sorcerer stone in your town could keep up with you and the cards." She said to Akko as Akko looked at her funny.

"I don't use the Sorcerer stone." She told her as the cafeteria went dead quiet.

Seeing this Akko felt nervous. "What is it?" She asked them as they looked at her like she had a second head.

"Akko no one can use magic in this day and age with the use of the stone." Explained Lotte as this confused Akko.

"But I use the magic within me." She told them as she then explained. "You see all us have magic within us. It's like a muscle the more we use it the stronger it gets. That's how my magic is so strong."

As soon as those word left Akko's mouth her eyes went wide. "THAT'S IT!" She cried out starling everyone.

"What's it?" Asked Kero as he and others came back into the room.

"I'd figured out why my magic isn't working right." Akko told them surprising the two.

"What is it?" Asked Yue curious.

"It's the wand." Akko told them with a smile.

"The wand?" Both guardians said at the same time confused as well as everyone in the room.

"Yes, you see this wand is connected to the Sorcerer stone here. Every time I use it, I put my magic into it. Add in the magic from the stone and who knows what could happen." Explained Akko as she then brought out her key.

"But if I use the key as my wand." Said Akko as she held out the key as it the transformed, but not into a staff by rather a wand. The only difference between her wand and staff was the pole was shorter and the top was smaller.

"I can use my magic without worry." Finished Akko as she casted a spell and her plate and glass floated through the air with no problems at all.

"Amazing." Said Holbrooke as she and everyone else watched as Akko used magic without a stone.

"Could you teach me Akko." Lotte suddenly said as all eyes went to her. "Could you teach me to use my own magic like you do?"

Akko was shocked to hear this and she put her dishes down. "I could try, but I can't guarantee anything." She told her as Lotte nodded.

"Then I want in on this too." Said Amanda as she raised her hand and her team agreed with her.

"I might as well too." Said Sucy as this might be worth the effort.

Soon other students said they wanted to learn too. Akko was shocked by this as she had never taught anyone magic before.

"Everyone calm down." Said Holbrooke as she gained control over the situation as Akko sent her a thank you look. "This is brand new to everyone here. And as such we will start small and work our way up."

Hearing that the students nodded as Holbrooke nodded as she continued. "Now then if it's alright with Miss Kagari we shall start with her team and the green team with me as a supervisor."

She then turned to Akko. "Is this ok with you?" She asked Akko as Akko thought about it.

She turned to Kero and Yue who nodded as they gave her their support. "Yes." She Akko her teammates and the green team smiled.

Unaware to everyone Rebecca and Eriol watched the whole thing with smiles on their faces.

"I'd never thought the students would go for this." Admitted Eriol as he thought they would stay in the old ways.

"It just goes to show how much Akko can change things." Said Rebecca with a smile.

"I guess only time will tell if this works out for everyone." Said Eriol as he hoped this works out.

And so we now know what happened when Akko found the Book and her first capture. I might do other captures in the future, so if you have a suggestion send it my way and I'll see what I can do.

Also Akko going to teach. Bet none of you saw that coming. But it's not going to happen soon. I plan for that to happen in a few chapters.

So until next time.
