Chapter 9:
Night Fall
00000000
Akko was confused. While she was teaching her inner magic class, Professor Finnelan came in and whispered something to Headmistress Holbrooke. Holbrooke then got up and told Akko to continue her class but when it was done to come to her office. Confused Akko continued as she taught everyone how everyone's magic was like finger prints. How no two were the same and gave a quick explanation on how you could sense another person's magic.
After the class Akko and Yue were heading to Holbrooke's office.
"What do you think happened?" Asked Akko curious to what happened.
"I don't know." Said Yue as he floated beside her.
As the two walked they then realized something. Neither had seen Kero for some time. And that was worrisome.
Soon Akko reached Holbrooke's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Said Holbrooke from the other side. Akko then entered and saw Holbrooke, Finnelan and Ursula but what caught Akko's and Yue's attention was Kero was in a cage sitting on Holbrooke's desk.
"Kero what did you do?!" Asked Akko as she entered the room and closed the door behind her.
Hearing that Kero sweat dropped a little. "What makes you think I did something wrong?" Said Kero trying to divert the question.
"You're in a cage." Said Yue plainly as Kero slumped hearing that.
"What did he do?" Akko Asked Holbrooke as Kero was her responsibility.
"He snuck into the kitchen and stole a pie!" Said Finnelan quite angerly as she added. "And he ate the whole thing in one sitting!"
"Hey that wasn't a pie!" Said Kero as he defended himself.
Hearing that Akko and Yue sighed, as they knew this wasn't going to end well.
"What are you saying?" Asked Finnelan confused.
"It wasn't a pie. That was a tart." Said Kero as if it was obvious.
"Really Cerberus." Was all Yue could say as Kero knew he was in trouble as Yue said his whole name.
"A tart costs as much as three pie." Said Holbrooke as she broke up the school's finical problems.
"Headmistress Holbrooke, we shouldn't bring up finances in front of a student." Said Ursula in a calming manner as Holbrooke agreed.
"Um, how did you catch Kero?" Asked Akko curious.
Hearing that Finnelan answered her. "One of the kitchen staff caught him after he finished eating the tart."
Akko could only shake her head as Kero's stomach seemed to control him more then anything.
"Why am I here?" Asked Akko worried they were going to punish her for Kero's actions.
"At first we were going to punish you for Cerberus's actions since you are his master." Started Holbrooke making Akko gulp. "But Cerberus has stated that you were unaware of his actions. And after your questions and such we believe him. We called you here to punish him for stealing from the school."
Hearing that Kero gulped as he nervously looked at Akko. Akko saw this and knew her answer.
"I'll leave that up to you." Said Akko as Kero looked betrayed.
"But Akko!? Why!?" Whined Kero as Yue flew up to the cage.
"This is your own fault Cerberus. We don't need to eat and yet you always stuff your face." Yue told him as this surprised the teacher, who said nothing.
"Very well then." Said Holbrooke as Kero looked up at her with worry. "Cerberus will wash all the windows in the lunch room tomorrow as punishment."
Hearing that made Kero better. "That's not too bad." Said Kero thinking if he uses his real form it won't take long.
"In this form." Added Holbrooke as Kero gasped as he knew nothing he said would make it better, only worse.
"He's yours till tomorrow." Said Holbrooke who gave Akko the cage.
Akko then left as Yue followed her. Kero didn't say anything as he saw the disappointed look on Akko's face. Akko walked with Kero in the cage as neither said anything as Yue floated beside them. Soon the reached the courtyard where Akko saw Lotte really excited.
"Hey Lotte." Greeted Akko as she walked over. "What are you so exited about?"
"Don't you know." Said Lotte as she almost danced over to Akko. "There is an event for the new volume of Night Fall in town tomorrow! See!" Lotte then shoved a flyer of the event in Akko's face.
"Too close, I can't see." Said Akko as she held up her hands to push it back. Lotte then let go and Akko took the flyer.
Akko held the flyer in her free hand as she remembered some of her old classmates talking about the series, but she never paid them any mind.
"Night Fall?" Said Akko as she saw it was the 365th volume.
"Yes. Night Fall." Said Lotte with love in her voice.
Akko then saw Sucy sitting on a bench nearby. "Do you know about it?" Akko Asked her.
"I've heard about it." Answered Sucy as she saw Kero in the cage. But before she could ask Akko about it, Lotte spoke up.
"Night Fall is a series of novels that are popular worldwide!" Lotte told them with enthusiasm in her voice, as she explained the series.
"A high school science teacher name Belle visits a manor house with her fiancé. She somehow time travels into the past and meets Edgar, a handsome young man. But Edgar is a vampire! Belle ends up witnessing famous events that have changed the course of history. It has love, adventure, thrills, schemes, friendship and innocence."
Hearing that Akko, Sucy, Kero and Yue just stood there not sure what to say as Lotte continued.
"It's a huge historical novel series for girls that cover all of these genres. So far, 364 volumes have been published. And tomorrow, the long-awaited 365th volume is coming out!" Finished Lotte as no one said anything.
"By the way, my favorite character is Edgar's rival, Arthur the werewolf. He has a sad background, but he's just the cutest." Added Lotte.
The next thing Akko knew Lotte was in her face. "Do you understand?"
"Yes." Akko said weakly.
"Isn't she the one who gets criticizes online all the time?" Asked Sucy as she saw some of the posts.
"Yes! The author Annabel Crème is a witch who has been writing Night Fall for 120 years." Lotte told them not bother at all by the criticism of others.
"A 120 years?" Asked Kero not believing it. "Not even Cloud Reed could live that long."
"Are you sure it's the same person?" Asked Yue as he felt the same.
"Well until now, she had never appeared in public before." Lotte told them as they did have a point.
"But who cares about that!" Said Lotte as she then danced around again. "They're going to be selling all types of merchandise, and I heard all the fans are going to dress up in costumes!"
Lotte kept on going about everything that was going to happen as Sucy turned to Akko.
"Why is Kero in a cage?" Sucy asked her as Akko sighed.
"He got caught stealing food and is getting punished tomorrow." Akko told Sucy as she looked down at Kero who had his head down in shame.
"I see." Was all Sucy said.
The next day the girls and Yue headed into town for the event while Kero stayed behind for his punishment. When the girls reached the town Akko, Sucy and Yue all looked as the town had posters and flyers for the event as there was so many people here for it. Many of whom where in costumes like Lotte.
Lotte wore she school uniform, but over it she wore red dress making her look like little red riding hood.
Akko looked around and thought about the battle costumes Tomoyo made for her as she saw some similarities here and there.
The next thing Akko knew Lotte was dragging her around to show her some of the cosplays she saw. The first was a pirate waiter, then a bagpiper who died in a war, and finally an old loan shark.
The Lotte saw something and let go of Akko's hand as Akko caught her breath. Akko then looked over as Lotte was praising someone who wore a clocktower costume. Curious Akko walked over as Sucy and Yue joined her.
"That's amazing." Said Lotte as she inspected the costume. "You're dressed like the clock tower that Belle lived in when the series began. I can trust anyone who chooses it for cosplay."
Hearing that the clocktower person was overcome by joy. "You are the first person who got it right." The person said.
"Of course, I get it. Any true fan knows this!" Lotte told them as she closed her eyes. It was then Lotte felt something from the person. It was their magic, and Lotte felt this magic before.
"Professor Badcock?!" Said Lotte in surprise as this surprised everyone.
The person then moved the clock to reveal a woman wearing glasses with short blue hair.
"How did you know?" Asked Badcock surprised.
"I sensed your magic." Explained Lotte as Badcock did hear that Akko taught that yesterday.
The two then quickly started to talk about Night Fall and walked off. Akko and the others watched as the two left their vision.
"I think we just got ditched." Said Sucy as she didn't expect that to happen.
"At least we know where she'll be later." Said Yue as there was a contest later that Lotte wanted to enter.
Akko looked to the side before speaking. "Want to get some ice cream?"
Seeing the shop both Sucy and Yue shrugged as they walked over.
At the same time Hannah and Barbara were walking by the event with shopping bags in hand.
"What is going on?" Asked Hannah as they walked by.
"I heard it's a Night Fall event." Barbara told her as she looked at everything with a longing look.
"Those stupid novels? How embarrassing. Aren't they too old to cosplay?" Asked Hannah unaware of the hurt look on Barbara face.
"Why don't we take a look to see how… stupid it is." Suggested Barbara as she paused when she said stupid.
But before either could say anything else someone spoke up.
"Barbara, Hannah." Said Akko in a neutral voice. Surprised both turned around and saw Akko standing there with Sucy and Yue.
Seeing Akko there both Barbara and Hannah gulped. They were still on thin ice for stealing the book of the Cloud. Whenever they saw Akko in the halls Diana suggested they give her a wide breath to avoid any, problems.
"What are you two doing here?" Asked Yue as he eyed them.
"We where just doing some shopping." Answered Barbara as she held up her bags.
"And we were just laughing at this event." Added Hannah as Barbara looked upset.
"Looks like Barbara likes this event." Said Sucy as she pointed at said girl.
Hearing that Hannah turned around and saw the hurt on Barbara's face.
"Barbara?" Said Hannah weakly as she didn't know.
"Seems to me you're a bad friend." Said Akko surprising the two as she continued. "True friends accept the others interests and hobbies and even try them to see if they enjoy it. I have friends back home and we have many different hobbies, but we are able to move past them and I've even pick up a couple up, somewhat. So, if you're really Barbara's friend Hannah accept that she likes this."
Hearing that Hannah said nothing as Akko and her friends left to get their ice cream. Hannah then turned to face Barbara.
"I'm sorry." Said Hannah as she truly meant it. "I'd never knew that you like this series."
"That's because I've never said anything." Admitted Barbara as this was also her fault.
The two stood there in silence, until Hannah spoke up. "Do you want to check this out?" She asked Barbara.
"Do you mean it?" Asked Barbara hopeful.
"As much as I hate to admit it, Akko's right. I've been a bad friend when it came to your hobbies and I know it's late, but I'm willing to see what this is about." Hannah told her as Barbara was her best friend and she didn't want to lose her.
Barbara stood there before smiling. "Then let's go." She told Hannah as she took her hand and headed into the event.
Later at the main hall Akko and Sucy meet up with Lotte and Badcock as they went into the hall. As they entered the hall everyone was surprised by how many people were in there. There were so many that Akko thought of using the THROUGH card just to get in. As they walked through the crowd Akko wondered something.
"Lotte, when did you become a Night Fall fan?" She asked Lotte as Lotte thought about it for a second before answering.
"It was when I was a kid. My family runs a small shop that sells magic items. Once, the neighborhood kids teased me because I was a witch. That was when I found Night Fall at the library. I identified with the vampire family because they were also bullied. But as I read, I noticed Arthur was flirting with Belle in order to get Edgar's attention. Then all I could focus on was that. The next thing I knew, I no longer worried about my other problems. I'm sure there are other people who found solace in reading these books."
Lotte then finished, but she didn't know that the crowd had pushed Akko and Sucy away from her and Badcock.
"I feel the same way." Badcock told Lotte as they continued on.
Soon everyone made it to their seats as everyone including Hannah and Barbara were sitting next to each other. Then a light shined upon the stage reveal a man wearing a red suit with brown hair. He was also wearing a mic on his ear.
"Welcome to this very special Night Fall event." Greeted the host of the event.
"Tonight, we celebrate the release of the 365th volume in the series, with a special appearance by the author herself." The host told the crowd making them excited to see the author.
"Introducing Annabel Crème!" Said the host as he dramatically pointed to the side of the stage as it light up.
Standing there was a little girl in appeared. She wore a black dress and had long blond hair that went to her waist. On her head she had a set of headphones on. But what some people see seemed more interested about her phone then being here.
"What? That girl is the author?" Asked Akko confused as she was expecting someone older looking.
"She looks too young." Said Yue from Akko's shoulder as he didn't sense much magical power from her.
"Maybe they do switch people." Said Sucy as the author looked like she was in elementary still.
But Lotte wasn't listening to them as she had a far off look on her face. "Wow, she's so cute." She said out loud to herself.
Annabel then walked over to the other side of the stage and sat down on a gold chair with a red cushion. But she never once looked up from her phone.
"So Annabel, do you have anything to say to your loyal fans?" Asked the host as he looked in her direction.
"What?" Asked Annabel as she moved a headphone and looked annoyed.
"Say something to your loyal fans." Repeated the host confused by her actions.
"Thanks." Was all Annabel said.
"Well, a little more than that." The host told her hoping for a little more.
"You just said to say something." Annabel told the host not seeing the problem as she went back to her phone.
"She's rude." Said Akko surprised by her actions.
"What a cocky brat." Added Sucy as Yue shook his head in disapproval.
"Adorable!" Said Lotte still lost in her own world.
"Okay, now let's move on…" Said the host getting over the surprise of Annabel actions. "It's a Night Fall trivia competition! All the questions are very difficult and were created by Annabel herself. The winner of this contest will receive a wonderful prize from Annabel."
Hearing that the crowd exploded into a cheer as they wanted to win.
"The first question. This is a novice-level question. Where did the maker of the gloves Belle got form her great-grandmother move to?" Asked the host.
Hearing that Akko, Sucy, Yue and Hannah stared at him confused while nearly everyone else hands went up.
"All right. The girl with the red hood right there." Said the host as he pointed at Lotte.
"43-5 North Granpiashire White Street." Answered Lotte.
"Correct!" Said the host.
This went on for some time as Lotte and Badcock got most of the answers right until they were the only ones left. At that point the two were asked to come to the stage for the final question as they both sat behind desk with a buzzer and a mic on it.
"Now there are only two left. Who will be the winner?" Said the host as he hyped up the crowd.
"I can't believe she's come this far." Said Sucy as she was happy for Lotte.
"Go lotte!" Cheered on Akko.
Barbara sighed. "I can't believe I got the decimal point wrong." She said to herself as that what got her out of the competition.
"You got it next time." Said Hannah as she was surprised by how much Barbara knew about the series.
"Okay, this is the last question. When the author Annabel Crème's mother was a child, she took piano lessons. The name of the bakery her piano teacher father-in law frequented is…" But before he could finish the question Badcock pushed her buzzer.
"Sommerset bakery." Answered Badcock surprising the two.
But a red X appeared on the front of her desk. "However, in the same village in the botanical garden near the bakery, which flower has the third largest plant area?" Finished the host confusing everyone in the crowd.
On the stage Lotte thought about it. 'What? Was there such a thing?' She asked herself as she thought hard about it.
'Which volume? Was it in the book?' Lotte asked herself as she wasn't sure if it was in the series.
In the crowd Akko and Sucy were worried about her as this was a really tough question.
'Roses? No. Narcissus? No.' Thought Lotte as she went through the flowers she knew of in the series. She then looked over at Annabel who was still on her phone.
Lotte looked at her phone case and saw a picture of flowers on it. That's when it came to her.
'Hydrangea!' Screamed Lotte in her head as she got it.
Lotte then pressed the buzzer. "Hydrangea!" She answered hoping she was right.
"Correct!" Said the host as the crowd cheered for Lotte. "The champion is this young lady. Please come over here."
Lotte then stiffly walked over to the host as her face was red from all the attention, while Badcock left the stage. At the same time Annabel looked up from her phone and walked over to them.
"She looks nervous." Said Sucy but she had a small smile on her face.
"Of course, she's about to meet her idol!" Akko told her as she would feel the same way.
On the stage a picture of a black fountain pen with gold highlights was shown.
"The gift from Annabel is none other then her favorite fountain pen." Said the host as he gave the two some space.
"You must really love Night Fall." Said Annabel.
"Yes, of course." Lotte told her as she was thrilled to hear that.
"Then you would love this too, right?" Asked Annabel as she held out the pen for Lotte. Lotte then took the pen wondering Annabel's words.
"You are the next Annabel." Annabel suddenly said confusing Lotte as she continued. "The author of Night Fall is not just one person. I'm the 12th Annabel. Now that you've received this, you will be the 13th. You must write or your beloved Night Fall will end."
And then Annabel vanished surprising not only Lotte but everyone else in the crowd and even the staff.
"Annabel has disappeared. That's very much like her, thought. Plot twists like this are very common in the Night Fall series. Please give her a round of applause." Said the host as the crowd clapped thinking it was apart of the event as the curtain went down.
"What an abrupt ending." Said Akko confused by it.
"Very awkward." Agreed Sucy as it was weird.
"Something isn't right." Said Yue as he had a bad feeling.
Meanwhile behind the curtain the host relaxed. "Boy what a night." He said to himself as Lotte looked at the pen as she then saw a seed on the ground where Annabel was. She then bent down to pick it up, but when she got close it broke in two.
"This is a magic item used for teleportation." Said Lotte wondering why it was here as she picked it up.
It was then the host walked over to her. "It freaked me out when she suddenly disappeared." He told Lotte.
But Lotte then rushed off leaving the host behind confused. As Lotte ran backstage, she heard the staff looking for Annabel with no luck. It was then everyone came up to her.
"Lotte! What happened?" Asked Akko curious as she asked everyone's question.
"Annabel's disappearance was not part of the show. It looks like she used this." Said Lotte as she held out the seed.
"That's a magical item for teleportation." Said Badcock as she looked at the seed curious to why Annabel used it.
"But anyone can use that, even a child." Said Hannah confused.
"That's because she's not a witch." Lotte told them shocking Barbara and Babcock the most.
"But she's been writing Night Fall for over a century." Said Barbara confused.
"Apparently she's the 12th Annabel." Lotte told them as Yue had a 'I knew it' look.
"That would explain why the series changed direction so suddenly." Said Badcock as that did confuse her.
"But why did she tell you this?" Asked Yue.
"When she gave me the pen, she said I was now the 13th Annabel and Night Fall was now mine to write." Said Lotte surprising everyone.
"You're to write Night Fall now!" Said a shocked Barbara.
"But you're still a student." Said Badcock equally shocked.
"I need to find her." Lotte told them as this confused some of them.
"Why?" Asked Hannah not understanding why.
"I need to talk to her. Please help me." Lotte told them as Akko spoke up.
"Sure." She told Lotte.
"Is there a card that can track people?" Asked Sucy curious.
Akko thought about it for a second. "No." She told them.
Hearing that they went outside but they had no idea where to look.
"Before we start, maybe it would better to think why Annabel gave the pen to Lotte?" Suggested Yue as it might save on time.
"But how?" Asked Hannah as she added. "It's not like the pen can tell us."
Hearing that Lotte eye's widened. "We can. I can use my communication magic." She told them.
"Communication magic?" Said Akko a little confused.
"Yes." Said Yue as he explained. "The older the item the more likely a sprit will live in it. And with communication magic we can communicate with the spirt."
Badcock listen to them and agreed with them. "Very well, but not out here." She told them as the event was still going strong.
They went to a nearby park that had no one in it. Lotte then found a picnic table and put the pen down on it. Lotte then started to sing a light song as the others watched on. As Lotte sang a light green wisp of energy came out of the pen that then formed a humanoid shape with a pipe in its mouth. Seeing this Lotte stopped singing.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Lotte Jansson." Greeted Lotte as she then asked. "I would like to know where Annabel is."
The spirt then seemed to whisper in Lotte ear.
"I can't hear anything." Said Akko confused as Hannah and Barbara agreed with her.
"That is because only the one who cast the magic can hear the spirt." Explained Badcock.
"I got it. Thank you." Said Lotte as the spirt went back into the pen.
"What did she say?" Asked Akko curious.
"She doesn't know where she's gone to." Lotte told them as she added. "But she did tell me that this pen has always chosen the author of Night Fall. The current Annabel was chosen by this fountain pen, but she doesn't have confidence in her talent at all. It appears she held this event to choose the next person on her own."
"But why?" Asked Barbara as she enjoyed the latest books.
"Probably because of the online haters." Answered Sucy as she saw the reviews.
"Really, they're just words." Said Hannah not realizing what she just said.
"Have you've been on the receiving end of hate word?" Asked Akko in a cold tone surprising everyone even Yue.
"Words have power. It doesn't matter if it's one person or 10. They can affect people in ways you can never understand." Akko told them as she looked at Barbara and Hannah.
"You two made fun of me when we just meet, remember? All because I didn't know something. If I didn't have Kero and Yue as well as Lotte offering me help who knows how that could have affected me. So next time you make fun of someone or say you hate something remember that it affects the person you're saying it to."
Hearing that no one said anything as none of them heard Akko talk like that before. To them Akko was always smiling and cheerful, to hear talk so dark was scary. As for Hannah and Barbara they remembered that day and they didn't even think that their words could hurt someone as they thought back to everything they said and did to Akko. To say they were ashamed would be an understatement.
"So, what now?" Asked Yue getting everyone back on track. As they didn't know what to do as they had nothing to go on.
"Lotte why don't you want to write the series?" Asked Akko curious.
Lotte grabbed the pen and looked at it. "While I do love Night Fall, my love comes from the world the writers made and how I can relate with it. I can't continue that world. And above all else I love reading the story and if I wrote it, I would know what going to happen." Lotte told them as the last bit was a bit selfish but was understandable.
It was then that Badcock saw it was getting darker. "Lotte, I understand where you're coming from, but it's starting to get late and even with me vouching for all of you we will get in trouble if we stay out too long." She told the girls as they sighed understanding what she said.
Akko then looked at Lotte wishing she could help more. But then she saw Lotte's shadow and got an idea.
"I can track her." Said Akko suddenly surprising everyone.
"But you said that there wasn't a card that could." Said Lotte confused.
"I can't track her, but I can her shadow!" Akko told them as she took out her key.
"Oh, key that hides the power of the stars, reveal your true power before me. I, Akko command you under our contract. Release!" Chanted Akko as her staff appeared before her and she gave it a twirl.
Akko then took out and held a Cloud Card close to her as she then turned it around revealing the SHADOW card. Akko then tossed it before her as it spun it place.
"Card created by Clow, abandon your old form and reincarnate, under the name of Akko, your new master!" Said Akko as she pointed her staff at the card as it transformed into an Akko card.
Then from the ground rose a black cloaked figure. The cloak nearly covered it whole body, but a hole was where the head was. But when the girls tried to look in, they saw nothing.
"SHADOW find the shadow belonging to Annabel the true owner of this pen." Commanded Akko as she pointed to the pen in Lotte hands.
SHADOW looked at the pen in Lotte hands making her a bit nervous before it shrunk into the ground until a shadow was all that was left. The shadow then took off.
Seeing this Akko and Yue raced after it and the others followed them. The Shadow then headed for some old ruins surrounded by hydrangeas. SHADOW then went inside, and they saw Annabel sitting on the ground looking at her phone.
"Same old comments." Annabel said to herself sadly.
That's when she saw a shadow over her. Curious she turned around and saw SHADOW standing there. Seeing it she screams and crawled away. SHADOW then transformed back into a card and flew towards Akko's hand.
"Sorry about that." Said Akko as she bowed to Annabel.
"Annabel please don't run away!" Said Lotte as Annabel recognized her.
"You can't return it now! The fountain pen is yours now!" She told Lotte as she didn't want it.
But Lotte wasn't going to let her leave without it. "No, you should have this because your talent was chosen." She told Annabel.
"I don't have any talent. Everyone is saying so." Countered Annabel as she held out her phone. "They're saying the recent volumes have strange plot lines."
"I was surprised Arthur went into space." Said Barbara as she walked over.
"See?" Said Annabel surprised that there was two of them now.
"But didn't he always wanted to go into space?" Barbara told Annabel. "Afterall he has all those star charts and telescopes."
"That's true." Said Lotte as she joined in. "This has been pointed out by some experts over and over in the past, just like the Oedipus complex he has."
Annabel looked at the two in surprise as Badcock walked over.
"I've been reading the series for years and some of the newer books have confirmed some of my theories." She told Annabel who was shocked to see three fans here praising her, but her face fell.
"But those are just your opinions. Ever since I started to write, I've received so much criticism." Annabel told them with a frown as she remembered the online reviews.
"Those are the opinions of a few." Lotte told her with a smile. "The story of the prison, the story of Belle catching the nuclear warhead, the story of the cappella championship. They were all so good!"
Hearing those stories Akko and the others gave each other weird looks, while Badcock and Barbara agreed with Lotte.
"I like those stories too." Said Annabel with a frown. "But every time I release a new one, people just complain and criticize me. It's hard to not get depressed. I've had enough."
"Are you writing for them or you?" Akko suddenly asked as everyone looked at her.
"What do you mean?" Asked Annabel confused.
"Are you writing Night Fall just for the fans or are you writing it because to love it?" Akko asked her as she walked over and kneeled before Annabel.
"I…" Was all Annabel said as she wasn't sure. Seeing this Akko spoke up.
"When I was younger, I wanted nothing more then to be a witch. But because I had no one to teach me I made a lot of mistakes and hurt myself. Even some of my classmates laughed at me. Hearing them l was ready to give up. But support from my friends and family helped me through it and know I'm learning at Luna Nova. If I can over come my criticism you can too. And you have three fans here saying they love your work."
Hearing that Annabel said nothing as she looked at Akko and saw the staff in her hand. She then looked over and saw Yue. Adding in the weird shadow she saw just now; she knew who this was.
"You're Atsuko Kagari! The new holder of the Cloud cards!" Annabel said in shock as she wasn't excepting to see her.
"Yes." Akko told her as she added. "If a no magical family witch can be the new holder of the Cloud cards, then you can be an amazing writer."
"See's right." Said Lotte as she, Barbara and Badcock started to talk about what they loved about the newer books, Annabel smile grew with each praise.
Seeing this Akko took a step back as Yue gave her a nod of approval. The four talked for a while Akko and the others sat down nearby.
"I grew up reading Night Fall, so I love these books." Annabel told them as they were the same way.
"There are many kids like us in the world. But you are the only person who can write and enjoy the new stories." Lotte told Annabel.
Lotte then held out the pen to Annabel. "If you stop writing, the real Night Fall will end. You are the only person who can write this now. You are the only Annabel."
Hearing that Annabel looked at Barbara and Badcock who nodded their heads in agreement. Annabel the took the pen back with a new sense of confidence.
"Yes, after all, I really do want to write. Thank you! All of you!" Annabel told them as she looked at Akko for the last part.
Seeing that Annabel was once again the writer of Night Fall the Luna Nova girl headed back to school. As they flew through the Key Line Badcock looked over at Akko who was using FLY as she remembered her words.
She then flew over to Yue. "Yue what has Miss. Kagari been through?" She asked the guardian curious.
"I don't know." He told her honestly. "Kero would know more then me. But I do know that Akko will put on a face, so others are happy."
Hearing that concerned Badcock. "I see." She said hoping she was fine.
Seeing this Yue spoke up. "Don't worry she opens up to us when she needs to." Yue told her as Badcock was going to share this with the other teachers.
Meanwhile Lotte had a big grin on her face as she had an amazing day. She meet her favorite author, made a new friends in Barbara and Badcock, and even got her book signed.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I actually thought about skipping this, but then I figured I could do some character deployment with Hannah and Barbara. I'd never really saw any in the show, so I figured I would give them some here.
I also thought I could use this to show that words can hurt people if you're not careful. After all I went through something similar. In one of my stories, I had someone come after me. Their words hurt me so much I nearly quit writing all together. If it wasn't for others on the site coming to my aid I would have quit.
And here's a little something extra that happens while the others are in town, enjoy.
Kero was frowning as he finished another window. He floated down to where his cleaning supplies where as he sat down and groaned.
"All this over a tart!" Kero yelled to himself as this was unfair.
He was about to start the next window when someone spoke up.
"Cerberus?" Hearing that Kero turned around and saw Diana there.
"Diana? What are you doing here?" He asked her wondering why she was here.
Diana looked embarrassed as she spoke. "Could you tell me about Beatrix?" She asked Kero as she wanted to know more about her.
Hearing that Kero floated over to her with a smile on his face. "Sure thing. What do you want to know?" He asked her.
Hearing that Diana smiled as she sat down and asked her first question. "What was she like?"
Hearing that Kero sat down cross leg on the table. "She was kind and had a warm smile. And gave the best belly rubs. She was ready to help others whenever they need it. But it was different with Cloud Reed at first."
"What do you mean?" Asked Diana curious.
"Well, when they first meet, they got off on the wrong foot. They would argue and fight. If you told them that they would get married and have kids they would have laughed at you and called, you crazy." Kero told Diana as those two got under each other skins a lot.
Hearing that surprised Diana, a lot. "What changed then?" She asked wanting to find out more.
"Time." Said Kero. "As time went on the two meet again and again. Going on adventures, helping the other out. After everything they went through, they fell in love and got married."
Diana then asked some more questions as Kero answered them. But as he did, he noticed some similarities between Diana and Beatrix, just like he did with Akko and Cloud Reed. It made him wonder if the two might end up together in the future.
