Chapter 12:

The fountain

It was a sunny day at Luna Nova as Akko was sitting outside with Tomoyo and Sonomi, as Kero and Yue joined them. The five of them were having tea and snacks. Sonomi after the viewing the other night asked the two girls and guardians to tell her everything that has happened with the Clow cards. They agreed and told her everything.

In the middle of their tales Sonomi wanted the VOICE card after she found out it was the reason that Tomoyo lost her voice. But with both Kero and Yue telling her that VOICE only took her voice because of how much she loved it. Tomoyo then added that VOICE wasn't the only card that loved her voice as she told her about the SONG card.

Once they were done Akko did wonder one thing.

"Just curious why are you two still here?" Asked Akko as she didn't expect them to stay so long.

"To be honest my business with the school is done, but I received a call from Paul Hanbridge asking me to stay." Answered Sonomi as Akko thought about the name.

"That name sound familiar." Akko said to herself.

"He's the reason why they're having tonight's party." Answered Yue as Sonomi got a thoughtful look on her face.

"I wonder why he's coming here?" She asked herself as this got their attention.

"What do you mean?" Asked Kero as he got a serious look on his face.

Seeing the looks on Kero and Yue faces she answered Kero's question. "I haven't met him before but from what I've heard he associates himself with those who approve of witches. But there are rumors that he has a strong dislike of magic."

Hearing that Yue and Kero shared a look as Akko rubbed her head.

"I hate politics." She said to herself.

"Well, you're going to have to deal with them more in the future, Miss owner of the cards." Said Tomoyo with a warm smile as Akko slumped down as she was right.

Seeing this caused Sonomi to chuckle as Akko was still the same.

Later that night everyone was getting the finishing touches done for the party. Headmistress Holbrooke watched the students as she was looking for a particular student. She soon saw her as she walked towards Akko and her team along with Tomoyo.

"A little to the left." Said Tomoyo as Akko and Lotte moved a welcome banner to the side.

"How's this?" Asked Lotte as Tomoyo looked at it.

"Maybe just a smidge more to the left." Tomoyo told them as they did it.

"How about now? Asked Akko curious.

"I think it should be more to the right." Said Sucy with her usual grin.

The girls were about to move it when Holbrooke spoke up.

"It's fine there." She told the girls as they were surprised to see her. That was when Holbrooke noticed that Kero and Yue weren't here.

"Miss Kagari where are your guardians?" She asked Akko as she trusted Yue, it was Kero she was concerned for. They did catch him in the kitchen before and with all the food they had ready for tonight, well she had her next place to go to.

"Oh, they're meeting with some of the ground crews." Akko told her as she and Lotte came down.

But Akko's answer confused Holbrooke. "What are they doing with them?" She asked Akko curious.

"I think they said something about a poker game." Akko told Holbrooke who only stared as she wasn't expecting that answer.

She then got her thoughts together as she wondered if she should investigate these poker games or not.

"Miss Kagari, the reason I'm here is to inform you that Mr. Hanbridge might wish to speak with you tonight or see the cards in action." Holbrooke informed Akko as she was confused.

"Why me?" Asked Akko not thinking of the obvious answer.

"Gez, who knows mistress of the Clow Cards." Said Sucy sarcastically making Akko blush.

She then looked at Tomoyo as she remembered their earlier conversation. It made Akko wonder why he really wanted to talk with her. But before she could say anything a teacher spoke up.

"They're here!" Said a teacher as outside three cars pulled up.

From the middle car two men came out. The first one was the older of the two. He was a middle-aged man with gray hair and green eyes. He wore a brown suit with dark brown shoes and a beige shirt. Lastly, he wore a pair of glasses. This was Paul Hanbridge. He was not only a count but a minister of state.

Next was his son Andrew Hanbridge. He has brown hair that was swept to his left side and green eyes like his father. He wore a navy-blue suit with a blue formal shirt with a red tie and brown shoes.

As the two Hanbridge's walked into Luna Nova a band played. Soon they walked into the main hall where all the students were lined up on either side of the hall. As the two walked down the rows of students most the of students gasped at Andrew, finding him to be very handsome. Though Andrew didn't seem to care.

His eyes then saw Kero and Yue as they floated beside Akko as the two locked eyes for a second before Andrew continued on. Soon they reached where Headmistress Holbrooke and some of the staff were alone with Sonomi.

"Welcome to Luna Nova." Greeted Holbrooke with a warm smile.

"Thank you." Said Paul as he looked at the staff as his eye fell on Sonomi.

"And you must be Sonomi Daidouji. A pleasure." Said Paul as he held out his hand for her.

"Yes." Said Sonomi as she took his hand and shook it.

As this happened Eriol had a small grin on his face as Rebecca wasn't anywhere to be seen.

A little later the party was in full swing as on the stage were three people who wore black robes and wearing masks dancing with fire. In front of them at a table was Holbrooke, the Hanbridges, and Sonomi. Tomoyo meanwhile was with Akko and her friends.

"That's a good dance." Said Kero enjoying it.

"Maybe I should ask FIREY if it want to try that." Joked Akko as she pictured FIREY dancing like that.

"It'd bring down the house in more then one way." Joked Amanda as she imagined it too.

It was then that Akko's eyes went wide as she sensed Cloud Reed's magic. Tomoyo saw the look on her face and grinned.

"I know that look." She told Akko.

"What look?" Asked Lotte confused.

"Akko senses something." Tomoyo told her as this made everyone gasp.

"What is it this time?" Asked Sucy curious as the last two were living rain and a giant teddy bear.

"I don't know, but it's coming from the north end of the campus." Akko told them.

"Alright let's go!" Said Amanda ready to go.

"But if we vanish people might worry." Said Lotte as that was true as she added. "And Akko needs to stay here."

Amanda sighed as she was right, but Akko wasn't worried.

"Don't worry I know what to do." Akko told them as she walked out of the room as they followed her.

Once in the hall and making sure the door was closed Akko brought out her key.

"Oh, key that hides the power of the stars, reveal your true power before me. I, Akko command you under our contract. Release!" Chanted Akko as her staff appeared before her and she gave it a twirl, as she got ready. She then got into her trademark pose as she revealed the MIRROR card before tossing it in front of herself.

"Card created by Clow, abandon your old form and reincarnate, under the name of Akko, your new master!" Said Akko as she pointed her staff at the card as it transformed into an Akko card, as she then gave it her instructions.

"Turn into a copy of myself!" Instructed Akko as a giant mirror appeared before them. And from that mirror appeared a young girl. She had pale skin and wore what looked like a Chinese style dress that seemed a little to big for her. She had long lime green hair. Finally in her hands she held a small circular mirror.

The girl then headed towards them and as she passed through the mirror her appearance changed to copy that of Akko's. Seeing this surprised the girls as they didn't know MIRROR could do this.

"MIRROR can you stay here in my place for a while?" Asked Akko hoping MIRROR would say yes.

"Of course." Said MIRROR Akko as she had no problem.

"I'll stay here too." Said Yue as he floated over to MIRROR. "In case she needs help."

"Then I'll come along." Said Tomoyo as she held a camera in her hands.

The girls wondered where the camera came from but decided not to ask. But Constanze did wonder if she'll teach her that trick.

"But what about the party?" Asked Lotte as her mother might see her gone.

"I'll just say I got lost heading to the lady's room." Answered Tomoyo like it was nothing.

"Ok." Said Akko as it brought a smile to her face. It would be like old times for them.

"Good, but first we need to make a quick stop." Said Tomoyo as Akko knew what she meant.

Soon Akko, Tomoyo and Kero rushed off leaving the others behind as they wished they could go too. But little did they know Andrew got bored with the show and got taken on a tour of the school by Diana.

As Diana took Andrew on the tour the two barely said anything to the other.

"It's been a long time." Said Andrew breaking the ice.

"Yes, it has." Agreed Diana.

"I see your still into this old, outdated magic." Said Andrew as Diana stopped walking.

"It's not outdated." Said Diana keeping a calm position, but on the inside, she was very upset.

"Really?" Asked Andrew. "Because isn't this school in financial worry and losing students every year?"

Diana said nothing as Andrew continued.

"These old ways have done nothing but hurt this school." Said Andrew.

"That may be true." Admitted Diana as she then added. "But things are changing."

"Because of those old cards resurfacing?" Questioned Andrew.

"No, because of who found them." Answered Diana as she then felt it. It was Akko's magic coming their way. Curious Diana turned her head and was surprised.

Currently Akko was wearing one of her battle costumes. She was wearing a pink dress that went down to her middle highs with long sleeves. She wore blue boot that went past her knees and matching gloves. On her shoulders she wore a blue cape with a pink star in the middle and that split down the middle in the back. And finally on her head was a hat in a fan shape with a star in the middle.

Behind Akko was Tomoyo and Kero. It was then Diana realized what was going on.

"What are they doing?" Asked Andrew as Diana forgot about him.

Diana opened her mouth, but she didn't know what to say. She had an idea on what they were doing, but other then that she had nothing. Hearing nothing from Diana Andrew spoke up.

"You two! What are you doing?" He asked/demanded as this caused Akko, Tomoyo and Kero to stop.

"Uh oh." Said Akko as she saw Andrew walking over to them with Diana following him.

"Well?" Asked Andrew as he stood before them. He then looked at what Akko was wearing.

"And what are you wearing?" He asked Akko confused by it.

"Isn't it lovely." Said Tomoyo with a smile.

"Um sure." Said Andrew not sure what to say.

"What's happening?" Asked Diana worried as the outfit meant only one thing.

"I sensed his magic over on the north side of the campus." Answered Akko as she felt that there was something about that side of the school.

"The north side." Repeated Diana as she too felt there was something about that side of the school.

"Since when can witches sense magic?" Asked Andrew as he never heard of that before.

"We'd recently have started classes." Said Diana as she added. "Akko been teaching us."

"Her?" Asked Andrew not impressed. Hearing this made Akko angry.

"And what's that suppose to mean?" She asked Andrew.

"Yeah!" Agreed Kero as he flew into Andrew's face

"What are you?" Andrew asked looking at Kero weirdly.

"I'm the great Cerberus! One of the guardians of the Clow cards!" Declared Kero.

Andrew looked at Kero before he started to laugh.

"You? A guardian of the Clow cards?" Asked Andrew in between laughs.

"Why you!" Said Kero with a growl as his wings started to glow.

That was when Akko grabbed him. Kero turned to look at her and saw a concerned/angry face. Kero sighed as he knew why Akko was looking at him like that. Even thought her magic has grown, it still wasn't enough for him and Yue.

"Sorry." Was all Kero said as Akko let him go.

Akko looked at Andrew before turning to Tomoyo.

"Let's go." Akko told her as they ran off.

"Shall we continue the tour?" Asked Diana as part of her wanted to go and help them.

"No." Andrew told her surprising Diana. "Let's follow them."

And with that Andrew started to walk after Akko's group. Diana was surprised by this as she followed him curious to why he was interested.

Soon Akko, Tomoyo and Kero stood in front of an old building.

"This is it." Said Akko looking around confused.

"What's wrong?" Asked Tomoyo curious.

"This area is usually off limits. But I guess because of the party security is lacked here." Akko told Tomoyo as she wondered why.

"The fountain is here." Said Kero as the two girls were confused, until Akko's eyes went wide.

"Do you mean the fountain of Polaris?" She asked Kero shocked.

"And what is the fountain of Polaris?" Asked a voice behind them.

Sacred the Akko, Tomoyo, and Kero slowly turned their heads around and saw Andrew and Diana there.

"Diana!" Said Akko with a smile grateful she was here.

"Again, what is this fountain?" Repeated Andrew a little annoyed.

"It's a magical place whare the magical power of the stars is sheltered. If a witch with inner potential appears before it, it will grant them power. But if they don't, it will vanish." Explained Kero as Andrew simply nodded.

"Then why are you here?" Andrew asked them as Akko sighed.

"Because I sensed a magical presence that shouldn't be alive here." Answered Akko as she walked into the building. Tomoyo then brought out her camera and started to record.

Kero then followed them as Diana did too. Andrew stood there confused.

'Magic.' He thought to himself as he joined them.

Soon they all came to a large old wooden door with a piece of paper on it.

"It's through here." Said Akko as Tomoyo looked at the note.

"I wonder which language this is?" Said Tomoyo as she wasn't sure.

"It's Latin." Said Andrew as he looked over Tomoyo's shoulder.

"What does it say?" Asked Tomoyo as she stepped away so Andrew could read it better.

"Do not wake the sleeping Arcas. Arcas, the guard of Polaris will attack anyone who gets close to the fountain." Read Andrew confusing everyone.

But unaware to everyone standing on a nearby ledge were the girl with the butterfly wings, the black panther, and finally Rebecca in her outfit holding a staff that was identical to Eriol's. Rebecca just smiled as waved her staff towards the door.

Back with the group they suddenly heard the door groan. And then for no reason it broke apart creating a dust cloud from its destruction. But from the dust they heard something growling. As the dust cleared, they then saw what was growling.

Standing before them was a polar bear like creature with a green cross in the middle of it's face. No one moved as they were shocked to see the bear before them as they then realized this could be Arcas.

Arcas roared at them as it then jumped at them. Scared Akko's group rushed forward to avoid Arcas as it landed where they were. Akko's group ran deeper into the building as Arcas then started to chase after them.

Kero saw this as he then acted. His wings grew as they then covered him, as he then took his true form. Seeing this shocked Andrew as Kero growled at Arcas who stopped.

"Let us be!" Ordered Kero as he was ready to pounce.

But Arcas just growled at Kero as he was ready to pounce. Akko saw this and grabbed a card.

Akko held the card in front of her before turning it to reveal the ILLUSION card.

"Card created by Clow, abandon your old form and reincarnate, under the name of Akko, your new master!" Chanted Akko as the ILLUSION card transformed.

"ILLUSION create illusions of us!" Ordered Akko as then suddenly the whole area was filled with illusions of them.

Arcas looked around confused as Kero used this chance to blend in with the crowd. Akko then gestured for everyone to leave the area while Arcas was distracted. As they left Tomoyo grinned as she looked at some of the Akko and Diana illusions. Some were holding hands, a couple were hugging each other, and she thought she saw one Akko kiss a Diana on the cheek.

Outside Rebecca and her two comrades watched the whole thing.

"Well, that was interesting." Said the panther surprised Kero transformed like that.

"How so Spinel?" Asked Rebecca wondering what he'll say.

"Well, I'm surprised Cerberus transformed like that. I thought they were trying to keep that to a low." Answered the now identified Spinel.

"Would you not do the same for me or Eriol?" Asked Rebecca as she had a point.

"She got you there Suppi." Said the girl with a laugh.

"Please Ruby you know he hates that nickname." Said Rebecca as she saw Spinel growl at Ruby. Rebecca then turned around as she started to walk away form the building.

"Come along you two. I need to get back to the party before any notices I've been gone for too long." Rebecca told Spinel and Ruby who glared at each other before following along.

Back with the others they hurried along as they didn't know how long ILLUSION would keep Arcas distracted for.

"What was that thing?" Asked Andrew as his opinion of the school had lowered.

"I believe that was Arcas." Answered Tomoyo as she had a faint smile on her face.

"Are you smiling?" Asked Andrew shocked.

"A little." Said Tomoyo as she the added. "I just missed this."

Hearing that Diana looked at her and then Akko and Kero as while she and Andrew were in small states of panic, they were fine.

"Kero you should go back into your disguise form." Said Akko worried about him.

"Not while that beast is out there." Kero told her as he wasn't going to risk their safety for his.

They then came up to a broken stair case with a ladder leading up.

"So which way now?" asked Tomoyo curious.

"Up." Answered Akko as the girls turned to Andrew.

"What?" Asked Andrew confused as to why they were looking at him.

"You first." Said Akko as she pointed up.

"Why me?" Andrew as he insulted.

"We're the ones wearing skirts and such." Akko told him as Andrew then realized why.

"Alright." Said Andrew as he knew this was a fight he didn't want to get into, it's a fight no man has won.

Once Andrew was up, Diana climbed up followed by Tomoyo as Kero floated up himself. Once they were up, they looked down and gasped in fear. Seeing their looks Akko slowly turned around in fear. She then saw Arcas standing there with an annoyed looked on his face.

Seeing this Akko screamed as she rushed up the ladder as fast as she could. When she reached the top, she still tried to climb not realizing that she was at the top. Not that the others could blame her.

"Come on!" Said Andrew as he grabbed Akko's hand and pulled her away.

They looked down and saw that Arcas had destroyed the ladder when he charged at where Akko was. They thought they were safe since that seemed to be the only way up. But Arcas surprised they by jumping up.

Kero acted fast as he rushed at the others and put them on his back and ran. Soon they ended up outside as Arcas was still on their tail.

"Kero, can you fly us out of here?" Asked Tomoyo as she recorded Acrus chasing them.

"I can't! To get you all on I hand to fold up my wings. Without them I can't fly!" Kero told them as they got a little worried.

Andrew turned to Akko with a worried look on his face. "Use a Clow card on that beast!" He told Akko who looked shocked.

"No!" Said Akko sternly as she would never do that.

That was when their luck ran out. The building was old and all the running they did caused some sections to break and fall apart. Such as the section in front of them. Seeing this Kero stopped. Everyone turned to see Acrus slowly making his way over to them as he knew they were trapped.

Then to everyone's surprise Akko got off Kero's back and walked a bit towards Arcus.

"Please Acrus we didn't come here for the fountain." Said Akko as she looked Acrus right in the eye. Seeing the look in her eyes Arcus stopped for a moment.

"We only came here because I sensed someone's magic here. This person has immense magic, they can control the weather or turn a teddy bear into a giant. We only came to make sure nothing bad had happened." Akko told Arcus who looked at Akko.

Everyone was nervous as they did nothing. Then Arcus took a more peaceful stance. Seeing this Akko let out of breath of relief as she was worried he was going to attack her.

"That was amazing Akko!" Praised Tomoyo as she got it all on camera.

"It was." Agreed Diana as she had her wand ready.

Andrew just sat there as he was surprised that it worked at all.

Arcus then looked Akko and then nodded its head down to the courtyard. Curious everyone looked down and were surprised to see a wooden arch in the courtyard. Akko looked at Arcas who simply nodded and walked away.

"What just happened?" Asked Andrew confused.

"I think Akko convinced Arcas that we aren't a threat." Answered Diana not sure herself.

Akko looked at the arch as she then activated FLY and flew down to it. Once in front of it Akko looked at the Arch as she could see the sides were what looked like two woman and in the middle were seven stars in the positions of the big dipper. Inside the arch was a staircase with stars around it.

Akko took a few steps forward when Kero landed near her with everyone else.

"Akko are you going in there?" Asked Diana curious as part of her wanted too as well.

"Yes, but to make sure everything is fine." Akko told her.

Akko then started to climb the stairs as Kero, Tomoyo and Diana followed her. Andrew stood there for a second before sighing and followed them.

As they got near the top, they could see a fountain and above it was an orb of water hover over it as water came to it.

"This is the fountain of Polaris." Announced Kero as Akko and Diana were awe struck.

The two witches took a couple steps forward and looked at the orb of water as they saw their reflections in it. But then to their surprise their reflections changed into that of Shiny Chariot when she was a student at Luna Nova.

"Chariot?" The two girls said at the same time in surprise.

Everyone then saw Chariot turn away disappointed as she then ran away. They then saw her working hard and helping those who need it thought with interesting results. This kept up until she used her magic to bring smiles to those around her.

Then the images changed to Akko. Seeing this surprised everyone. It showed her working hard trying to be a witch, as it then changed to her capturing the Clow cards. It finally changed to Akko wearing a pink outfit on top of the Tokyo tower as she looked up at Yue who looked down at her. Akko's wand then changed into its current state, and she used WINDY to capture him. Akko then held out her hand to Yue with a bright smile. Yue looked at her before he took her hand.

When that happened there was a bright light that blinded everyone. When everyone could see they were back in the courtyard before the arch. But the staircase inside it was gone.

"What was that?" Asked Andrew confused. What he saw didn't make any sense to him.

"That's the fountain way of saying we aren't worthy of it's power. At least not yet." Kero told them as he then transformed back into his disguise form.

"What do you mean by that?" Asked Diana curious.

"The fountain showed us how you can be worthy to claim it's power on day." Answered Kero as he wasn't going to tell them how.

"We should head back now." Said Tomoyo as this made the others gasp.

"The party!" They all said at the same time as they forgot about it.

Everyone then rushed back to the hall where the party was. When they got there the party was still going on. Seeing this Akko was about to slip away to change when Yue and MIRRIOR Akko found them.

"You're back, good." Said Yue as Diana and Andrew left them.

"Did something happen?" Asked Akko a little worried.

"Nothing, they just want a show from you using the cards." Yue told them as Akko nodded.

"Ok, when do I preform?" Asked Akko as she started to plan things out in her head.

"In a few minutes." Yue told her making Akko shocked as she looked at her costume.

"I guess I'm using this outfit again." Akko told Tomoyo who smiled.

"That's fine." Tomoyo told Akko who replaced her memory card.

Back at the main table Andrew rejoined his father and the others.

"You were gone for a while." Stated Paul as he gave his son a side look.

"My apologies. Diana was explaining to me some of Luna Nova's more interesting history." Andrew told his father, giving him a half truth.

"I see." Said Paul as he turned to Holbrooke. "When is this show about to start?" he asked referring to Akko's show.

But before Holbrooke could answer him a mist appeared on the stage. Seeing this everyone watched in wonder as then Akko came up from the floor.

"Welcome everyone!" Greeted Akko with a big smile on her face, as she trilled her wand.

Akko then tossed two Akko cards forwards as she then used her wand to activate them. From the cards came FIREY and WINDY. The two cards gave a bow to the audience as WINDY then turned wind that everyone could see. FIREY then grinned as it snapped its fingers as flames rode along the wind WINDY made.

Everyone in the audience was glued to what Akko was doing. She turned the wind into a flaming snake. Then the snake looked upwards as it then exploded like how fireworks do. Seeing this everyone clapped as Akko along with FIREY and WINDY bowed to them. Even Andrew clapped as he felt his opinions on magic was starting to change.

'You're an interesting witch Atsuko Kagari.' Thought Andrew as he thought about what he went through with her tonight.

The next morning Akko along with her guardians and friends stood in front of a car as both Tomoyo and her mother stood in front of it. While it was great to have them here it was time for them to return to Japan.

"It was great seeing you again Tomoyo." Said Akko as she gave Tomoyo a hug.

"It was." Agreed Tomoyo as she enjoyed their adventure last night as she turned to the others.

"And it was great to meet all of you as well." Tomoyo told them.

"Same." Said Lotte as she felt out of place here.

"And thanks for giving us the videos." Said Amanda as Tomoyo gave them a copy of the new master copy of Akko's captures.

"Tomoyo it's time to go." Said Sonomi as it was time for them to go.

"Goodbye Tomoyo, Sonomi." Said Akko.

"Goodbye." Said all of Akko's friends.

"Bye Akko." Said Tomoyo as she and her mother entered the car.

Everyone watched as the car drove away. Once out of sight they headed back into the school. It was a Monday and they had classes.

In the car Sonomi was going over some info on a tablet. Her meeting with the school board went well for the most part. Her biggest obstacle was they had a hard time expecting change. But with her being on such good terms with Akko helped, as they were willing to listen to what she had to say. And in the end the deal they were able to make was something everyone was happy with.

With Tomoyo she looked back at the school wishing she could help Akko more. But she knew she had her new friends for help and would be fine. Though she wished she could film Akko in more of her outfits, but she knew it couldn't be helped. She then thought about Akko and Diana, they both seemed to have some feelings for the other. But in the end, she guesses time would tell. Though she did ask Kero to keep her up to date on what was going on between them. Though in a part of her mind Tomoyo was worried for Akko as she had a feeling that things could get much worse for her.

I hope you all enjoyed this adventure. I couldn't let Tomoyo go without having her and Akko go on one adventure now could I. And since I didn't bring Frank into this story, it allowed me to bring Diana along for the ride.
