Sorry about that fake out. I didn't do it intentionally I swear. This is why I double check. Somehow I managed to fuck up selecting the one labeled chapter 20 like an idiot. Oh well. Hopefully this time I'll get it right.
Chapter 20: Field of Flowers.
"Lucas...Lucas?..." The sound soothing voice of Hinawa echoed in his ears as he blankly looked around the dark void he was in.
"M-Mom?" He called, not really remembering what had taken place.
His mother appeared to him, calling to his call. Her long, neatly brushed brown hair, neatly cleaned red dress, and her soft face that would always calm him down whenever something scared him years ago. Her midnight black eyes shone light glowing obsidian...or something like that?
"Lucas…" Hinawa said, reaching out to him. "Look how much stronger...how much braver...look how much you've grown!" Her soothing voice, almost a melody sounding speech made him relax so easily.
"M-Mom?" he asked again. He knew by now that this was either a dream, or the afterlife. At least...that was what he hoped was a dream.
"The world has changed so much...Lucas." his mother said calmly. "Where has the spirit of love gone?"
"I-I don't...I don't know." Lucas replied meekly. "E-Everyone just seems to...h-have...forgotten."
His mother shook her head. "You cannot forget to love." she said calmly. "It can be difficult for you to love. It can be squeezed out or even impossible for someone to love. You cannot forget about it though. It is within everyone, once you know, you know.
That sounded confusing...maybe even hypocritical? Lucas wasn't really sure. Weren't spirits supposed to be a lot more useful than this? Well...his mother wasn't really a spirit…at least, not in the context of legends.
"Wake up Lucas…" his mother said calmly. "There is so much for you to do."
Lucas blinked, but the void didn't fade, instead, he started to feel a wet, sticky thing rub against his cheek.
"Wake up Lucas...Wake up!" The voice of his mother suddenly became replaced by Boney. Lucas yelped and shot upwards, feeling a face full of pollen from a flower, he suddenly sneezed and blew the flower backwards.
He stood up, rubbing his nose, he was now in a field of sunflowers, far as the eye could possibly see. Just row after row after row of those bright yellow flowers.
"Master Lucas." He looked down towards Boney, his loyal dog was wagging his brown tail and panting a little.
He blinked again, he had never seen anything like this before. Though, maybe this was where his mother picked Sunflowers that she brought home for the flower pot? If so, that meant he couldn't be far from Tazamily.
"Where are Kumatora and Duster?" he asked Boney.
The chocolate labrador shook its head with a whimper. "Haven't seen either."
So they had been separated when they fell from the flying machine thanks to the Commander. Lucas nervously looked around. Did they get captured when they fell? Or were they lucky like he was? He didn't know.
He heard a loud whoosh overhead and looked up to see another one of the weird flying machines, albeit, less large than the one the Commander had been on. It soared above his head, and he spotted a hatch open up and watched something small fall out of it. Squinting to get a better look, Lucas felt his heart sink at the sight of a small gray ball with a lit fuse attached to it.
"PK Shield α!" he quickly shouted.
The bomb collided with the ground a few feet away from them and exploded.
KA-BOOM!
The massive amount of dust, debris from decently sized rocks, and the poor sunflowers blew apart from the area. Lucas yelped as several good sized rocks that could easily knock a person out cold at this speed collided with the shield. However, the walls of light stood strong, not fading from the amount of smacks of debris from it.
Thankfully, he didn't hear any other explosives go off. So he supposed they must've accidentally sparked one by mistake. As the dust and debris cleared, he saw the gaping hole in the middle of this perfect field. The sunflowers ripped off their stems, or burnt to ash.
Lucas swallowed nervously though they had been lucky this time, there was no guarantee that the army may not come back to scan, to make sure they hadn't damaged something they were testing underground. At this point, he wasn't sure what these people had.
"Lucas…"
He turned around as, nearly fell over as his Mother stood in front of him. Though, she was much more faded looking than she had been in the void.
His mother turned around and began walking away. Lucas watched her occasionally squat down and attempt to pick up a Sunflower. Though, her arm just brushed through it.
"I think you'd like this one, Lucas."
In a trance like fashion, Lucas began walking, Boney trotting alongside him, looking mildly confused. But he wasn't concerned, his mother was showing him something, he had a feeling.
"Claus would be so happy to see you." he nodded his head, happily thinking about seeing his brother again. That was his one wish, to at least know his brother's fate.
"The world can be saved Lucas, I believe in you...my strong, young man." Hinawa continued, still not turning to face Lucas. "The people are counting on you…Your father is counting on you."
"I can do it...I know I can." Lucas said to his mother.
"You'll have many friends, many people who will wish to help you on any adventure you'll ever have. I know that you'll grow up to be a courageous young man.." Hinawa said calmly.
As he watched his mother, he suddenly felt himself falling down, and down, and down.
His mind flashed as he suddenly found himself looking down at some weird looking golden pin in the ground, it had the face of what looked like a dragon on the top of it. It was quite a ferocious looking face that looked at him.
He looked to his side, and saw the Paula girl, she looked absolutely dehumanized from his last vision. Though, no wires were around her this time. That didn't change the fact that she looked awful. Her hair was more charred, and, up closer, he could see a lot of her skin was peeling off, probably from shock torture.
He heard the oink-jeers from Pigmasks and felt a surge pit in his chest as Paula looked ready to cry as she faced him.
"Touch it, or I'll kill you, your powers will confirm if this is what we needed." he said to her. He watched as the girl, shaking heavily, reached out and placed her hand on the pin looking object. There was a bit of silence for a moment, before a flash of light glowed from the Dragon eyes.
Lucas watched as he smacked Paula's hand off the object, then, horrifically, he took out that blue-bladed sword and slashed her arm, making her cry out as several pigmasks grabbed onto her. He watched as he turned back to the pin, placing his hands on it, until the image cut out.
Another month, another chapter. I hope you all enjoyed it.
The Sunflower Scene was a difficult one to do. Hinawa doesn't say anything, Lucas, says nothing, not even Boney says something even though he says stuff to Lucas normally. I wonder if Boney could also see Hinawa as well, and that's why he didn't bark and jumped off the cliff with Lucas as well. I don't know, just talking out my ass here.
Anyway, has everyone been enjoying the story? Do you like that I incorporated Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo into this story as well? I brought them here to differentiate this one from Mother 3, as, while I do love Mother 3 as a story, I wanted a bit more ambiguity on what the fate of Ness and his friends were. I don't personally like to believe Pokey killed them. But, considering Dr. Andonuts is here, I'm not sure. Maybe the Dr. Andonuts from Mother 3 is Jeff? I guess only Itoi really knows the answers. I'd love to ask him a question like this...though...I doubt in his age, he'd remember what he was going for with the implications of a timeline.
Either way...I've uh...not really had good feelings about bring Ness and friends, as I felt maybe its been off putting to readers seeing them in a Mother 3 retelling when you're used to the story being about Lucas and friends. I mean, granted it still is about Lucas. But I suppose you all love Mother 3 in a similar manner. I do as well...but I wanted to be unique...even though I've found next to no Novelizations of Mother 3 other than mine.
Oh well...just me talking to myself. That's all for this chapter, see you all next month.
