Chapter 11
No, it can't be. He was sent to prison as soon as I left, we had a deal. But even if it was real, how could he have escaped? He couldn't have. Could he?
None of this makes any sense to me.
Fact: My father is coming.
Fact: He is supposed to be in prison.
Theory 1: He escaped and wants revenge.
Theory 2: He was let out.
Question 1: How did he escape / who let him out?
Question 2: Who sent me the message?
I feel a hand on my shoulder and I stiffen. The group is ahead of me and no one would hear my screams over their cheering.
I feel a warm breath against my ear and I'm ready to kill him.
"Well done." The voice was not the one I was expecting it to be Four, but I don't relax.
He walks slightly behind me and I feel as if someone is staring at me. I look around. WHo could be looking at me? Four looks like is in his own world. Then I see it, a pair of eyes in the trees. He is here.
I feel a cramp in my stomach. I'm petrified. He found me. It takes at least a day to get here. How did he know I was going to be here?
My breath quickens and I know I'm going to puke. I can't give him that satisfaction. I run up to where everyone is and try to act normal.
When we start to head to the train a few minutes later, he is no longer in the trees. I can't find him.
Where did he go? What's his plan?
Before I can get any further in my thoughts, Uriah is beside me.
"Hey," he sais taking me out of my thoughts.
"Hey!"
"That was a good plan you had, it made all us Dauntless-borns look bad."
"Oh sorry," I didn't mean to make them feel like that.
"What? There's nothing to be sorry for," he trail off. After a moment of silence, he speaks again. "Uhmm, you know how you were talking about your brother and how you don't talk any more?"
"Yeah?"
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened?"
"Long story, but short version, he felt bad that I was doing things for him and I would get mad if he tried to do it."
"Oh, is it something that can be fixed? I mean, I couldn't think about not having my brother."
I remember the flashing lights, it was him, my brother that was sending me the message. "Honestly, I don't think that I'm going to see him ever again," he looks sad. "But if I were to see him, I think it would end with my almost knocked out and him yelling at me. Then, I would say I'm sorry and we would be good."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Uriah!" I hear a girl squeal and come running toward us. Marlene.
She runs behind us and jumps on Uriah's back.
"Ouch," I wince, that must have hurt. Right?
"What'd she do this time?" Uriah asks.
"She was about to shoot me with the paintball gun!" she answers
"She?" I ask.
"Lynn'" Uriah answers, "all the time," he rolls his eyes.
"Marlene," she introduces herself.
"Tris."
"Wait, you were the first jumper right?" she asks.
"Umm, yeah, I was," I say hesitantly.
We exchange small talk about our old factions until we get to the tracks and jump on the train as it passes.
Christina seems fine taking victory for getting the flag and I can't be more than happy not to have that attention.
"I can't believe I missed it!" Will says.
"You were performing a very important job of staying out of our way," Christina replays.
"Why did I have to be on the other team?" Al groans.
"So you climbed the Ferris wheel, huh," Uriah says as he sits beside me with Marlene. He plays with a paintball.
"Yeah," I say.
"Pretty smart of you. Like⦠Erudite smart," Marlene says.
Suddenly, the train turns left and Uriah falls on me while squishing the paintball.
Disgusted by the smell of fish oil and foul smelling paint that was sprayed across my face. Marlene collapses in giggles. I wipe some of the paint from my face, slowly, then smear it on Uriah and Marlene faces.
"Ew!" they both shriek. He takes another paintball and tries to squirt it at me. It opens on the wrong angle and the paint sprays into his mouth instead. He coughs and makes exaggerated gagging sounds.
Sorry for the short chapter!
Will post again tomorrow with a longer chapter.
