Chapter 13

"If you kill me, you'll never know." Amar has me pinned against his chest and a knife to my throat.

"Start talking."

"Well, here in Chicago, you would know me as Beatrice Prior the loving daughter of Natalie and Andrew Prior and sister to Caleb Prior."

"Here?"

"I'm not from Chicago. I won't tell you who I really am, that would be more dangerous for you, however, I know that you are Amar. Natalie would have only asked you to come here if you were Divergent. From what I have read about you, you are Dauntless born and have passed initiation."

"Why would it be dangerous if I knew about the real you?"

"Because if for some reason a certain Jeanine Matthews or Eveleyn Johnson would find out, they would torture you to get to me and then kill everyone and anyone that knows anything about why we are really here."

"And why are you really here?"

"To save people like you."

"How?"

When I wake up from actually sleeping, I can't get my mind to stop running. Tomorrow is Visiting day. Yay (note the sarcasm). Natalie and Andrew would go visit Caleb as it is their son. I plan on sitting in the training room and punching my thoughts away.

Then a thought, Matthew is here. Will he come? Was the message my brother sent the reason Matthew is here? Will my father be coming?

I start to get a panic attack, I think. I take my towel and head to the showers. I put the water as cold as possible and just stand under it, with my clothes on.

I stay there, motionless until I no longer feel anything.

When I finally feel like I can get out, I take my clothes off and wrap myself in my towel.

I go to get my clothes when I see Peter, Molly and Drew, there, staring at me. Ok. There are other initiates in the back corner where they talk amongst themselves.

I looked behind me to make sure no one was there. Empty.

"You know Peter, buy the way you are looking at me right now, it is as if you were lying when you said I don't have a pretty face." I say, walking towards my bunk.

I get my clothes and when I'm getting up, Peter is behind me, or well I guess in front of me now.

"Well Stiff, I may want to try something." He tells me. EWWW!

"Well Peter, there is a reason I picked Dauntless," I say innocently and quietly.

"Oh, and why's that?"

"To kick people's butts that act like you!" I shout, slapping him. Nothing feels better than giving someone an open palm slap to the face.

The talking stops. I start to walk away. "Oh, and the next time, you won't be so lucky." I walk away.

"Hey where were you this morning?" Christina asks when I walk into the training room.

"I got held up."

Four is writing names on the boar and who they get to fight with.

"Tris?" Al asks.

I look at him. "Hey Al!"

"Hey, uhm, I wanted to thank you for yesterday, I mean, you know, stan-"

"Al, don't worry, it wasn't a big deal."

"But it was for me."

"Well, if ever you need someone to stand in front of a target, I'm your girl."

"Thank you."

"Anytime."

I look at the list

Will - Myra

Christina - Al

Peter - Edward

Tris - Molly

I tried to pay attention to the fights, fending off the silent threats of my father.

I can't seem to focus my eyes so I try to think of what I can do to win this fight.

1. She beat Christina the first time, she's good.

2. Power house (strong pinches)

3. Slow and hardly moves.

4. Always attacks first

Solutions:

1. Don't get punched (can't get hurt)

2. Move a lot

3. Move fast

4. When she is done her punch and is unbalanced, attaque.

Peter and Edward just finished their fight. And it's my turn to fight Molly.

I get in the mats and get ready for the fight.

Even if I have all this anger inside of me because of my father, I won't let it change the fight. I put it in the back of my mind and tell myself that I will run it off at the end of the day.

Molly starts toward me and throws her weight into a punch. It's slow so I have time to duck and move to the right.

She then runs toward me like an - american - football player runs to tackle someone. At the last few seconds, I fake a right and go right just in case she was going to try and punch me. When I get to her right, plant my foot in front of her and she falls face first.

I stay up and get ready to keep her down until she conseeds. But she is like Peter, she won't let herself be defeated by me.

She goes to stand up and I kick her side, she falls back down. When she tries again, I kick her in the side.

I know that if I keep kicking her in the side, she is going to catch on and be able to take me down.

The next time she tries to get up, I see her and ready to take my foot. I keep my right foot down and with my left, stp on her ankle. She lets out a shriek. The worst that I could have done was sprain her ankle.

"I concede," I say.

Everyone stares at me. I have the upper hand, I could very easily win.

"What?" Four asks.

"I concede," I repeat.

"You do realise that conceding is the same as losing?" Four asks.

"Yeah, I concede."

I give Molly my hand to help her up with what she takes and I realise why, she throws a punch to my tempel.

I stumble back a bit. She punches me in the stomach and I double over taking a step back.

"She conceded!" Four shouts.

She elbows me in the back and I fall to the side.

"I don't take pity from a Stiff."

She kicks me over and over once I'm on the ground. When she is about to kick me again, I take her foot and pull it down making her fall towards me. I roll out of the way and with lots of pain, and stand up with much difficulty. The force seemed to be enough to make her go unconscious.

Once Four sais the fight is over, I try and somehow drag Molly out.

I'm almost to the door when Four starts shouting.

"Will, Edward, bring Molly to the infirmary. Tris, get yourself checked I don't need anyone dying." I nod and Will and Edward are picking Molly up.

"That was a fight." Edward says once we get out of the training room.

"Yeah," I say, not wanting to talk about it.

"I don't know why she would have attacked you at the end, she already won," Will says.

We stay quiet for a while. "You guys excited for tomorrow?"

"Yeah. I like it here but it's going to be nice to see my family again." Will says.

"Same. What about you?" Edward asks when we get to the infirmary.

"You guys head in, I'm going to the washroom. Don't wait up for me." I tell them and leave before they have the chance to say anything in return.
