Chapter 16

Before the end of the night, Four had posted the rankings for the first stage. I honestly didn't know what my ranking would be. The fight with Molly was confusing. I had conceded but then she came after me and I knocked her out. Who was considered the winner? I would say her, I ended the fight and whatever comes after that doesn't count.

"For those of you who just came in, I'm explaining how the ranks are determined. After the first round of fights, we ranked you according to your skill level. The number of points you earn depends on your skill level and the skill level of the person you beat. You earn more points for improving and more points for beating someone of a high skill level. I don't reward preying on the weak. That is cowardice.

"If you have a high rank, you lose points for losing to a low-ranked opponent. Stage two of training is weighted more heavily than stage one, because it is more closely tied to overcoming cowardice. That said, it is extremely difficult to rank high at the end of initiation if you are ranked low in stage one. We will announce cuts tomorrow. The fact that you are transfers and the Dauntless-born initiates are not will not be taken into consideration. Four of you could be factionless and none of then. Or four of them could be factionless and none of you. Or any combination thereof. That said, here are your ranks."

Four hangs a chalk board with the ranks and our names.

1. Edward

2. Peter

3. Will

4. Christina

5. Tris

6. Molly

7. Drew

8. Al

9. Myra

Fifth? It makes sense, I won against Peter in my first fight and he was a strong opponent. I guess he wasn't lying when he said he didn't reward printing on the weak. After I conceded, Molly came after me. I might not be the weakest opponent but I'm not the strongest either. No matter what happens, I get to move on.

"What? I beat her! And her! I beat them both and they're ranked above me?" Molly shouts.

"Yeah, and?" Christina asks, crossing her arms.

"If you intended to secure yourself a high tank, I suggest you don't make a habit of fitting someone once they conceded." Four sais flashing a look at me. I look at my feet, not wanting to look at him.

I don't know Four however, if I didn't know better, it seems that he was disappointed that I conceded. I don't blame him. I had the advantage but for some reason, I couldn't find a reason to do it.

"You," she says, pointing at me, "You are going to pay for this."

Petter and Molly leave. I don't know what they are planning but they are planning something. Peter could not be satisfied with second place. The fact that he did not say anything makes me on edge.

"We didn't do too bad, did we?" Will asks, standing beside me putting his elbow in my shoulder.

"Yeah, not too shaggy," I replay. They give me a confused look. "Not too bad," I correct myself.

"We should celebrate," Will announces.

"Well, let's go then," Christina says, grabbing my arm with one hand and Al with the other.

"I'm just going to bed," Al says, pulling his arm away.

When we get in the hallway, we decided on going and getting another tattoo. We started debating what we should get. We decide that once we all pass initiation, we will get the dauntless symbol tattooed. But for now, we decide we will look at the designs.

We look around at the tattoos and each find something we like. I decided to go look for Tori, I liked what she did last time so I thought that she could do another one. I had also found out who she is so it would be a good time to talk to her.

"Tori?" She stands behind a counter doing some sketches.

"Oh, hi. What can I do for you?"

"I was hopping you could do a tattoo for me."

"Sure, what do you have in mind?"

"It's another name."

"Alright," she looks around. "There aren't any chairs open so you can come back here." She leads me into a room that has two chairs, a sofa, and a small desk with the tattooing equipment. "Usually this room is reserved for someone that wants a tattoo in a hidden place, or just for us to hang out when there are few people," she turns to look at me. "So, where would you like it?"

"My right thumb"

"Alright," she motions for me to sit on the chair. She pulls the second one to my right and starts setting up. "What are the lucky names this time?"

I pull out a design that I had. It's an infinity sign with Amar's name on the tom left and George's on the bottom right.

She takes it and once she gets a good look at the names, she looks pailer. She looks up to me horrified.

"What the hell, who the hell are you?"

Sorry to leave it on a clif hanger... will post next chapter tomorrow
