Chapter 18 Four's POV

It's weird, it took me a minute to figure out who she was but she seems like the same person. I don't know what it was but she has to be the same person. I mean like Tris sounds like a shortened version of Beatrice but she doesn't look like a Beatrice. I don't know what she looks like but just something about her makes her different. Like it's not like what you see in those romance books that suck but it's more like I admire her? I mean, I told her to go to the infirmary and she didn't and that's just plain stupid, when she jumped off the roof, it was like it was nothing. I was so scared Amar almost pushed me off!

But there was something that always bugged me about her.

1. She was there at my mother's funeral but yet when I went to have dinner with her family, she asked when she died.

2. That same night at dinner, she saw that my back was bleeding and it was like it was nothing. Like she has seen it before. She gave me bandaids and never said anything about them.

3. She acts so mature, as if she never had a childhood. Which wouldn't be true because when she was younger, I always saw her and her brother Caleb playing. So she had a better childhood than I did.

4. When I threw the knives at her, she didn't flinch. Like nothing that showed that she was the slightest bit scared. Again, almost like she has done it before. It could be that she trusts me but lets face it, no one would.

5. She keeps flinching away. Like when I put my hand on her to say welcome to Dauntless, it was like she was scared of me. Then when Zeek put a hand on her, she punched him (it was so funny). He was crying and Shauna and I just laughed so much.

6. Whenever she punched someone or was in a fight, it was like she didn't want to. She told me to put ice and makeup to hide that I had a bruise. And she would also bring all the people that she fought to the infirmary.

Call me stupid but there is something about her that dosn't add up.

Oh, also the fact that she has red hair growing. Like ok, I might me a guy but I'm not stupid. The roots of her hair is red. How does noone find that strange?

Anyway, I need to find what it is that makes her like that because something isn't right about her.

I'm going to see Tori now. I wanted to see if she could give me another tattoo. She has been working on designs for me and I wanted to see what she has so far.

When I get to the tattoo parlor, I see Tris and Tori walking into a back room. So I do what any normal person would do, I follow them. I stay hidden so that they don't see me and start listening to what they are saying. I couldn't heat much but I did catch some.

"George… Divergent… suiside… not him." What! George isn't edad? I don't know him but Amar did tell me about him."
"Work for Jeanine?"

"No… work for us." What?! I can't wrap my head around it. Jeanine works for her? So she is worse than Jeanine.

"...beyond the wall… Natalie's daughter passed… I sent replace her" Beatrice died? So whoever "Tris" is is not Beatrice. "my job… no war… you parents… Divergent?" Why should it matter if her parents were divergent? Tori said yes but again, why does it matter?

I couldn't understand what she was saying after but she said that she is Divergent and that she wanted a list of the other Divergents.

I didn't listen to what she was saying, trying to understand what she had said. Before I know it, she's walking out. I walk into the room that she just left and see Tori sitting holding a pice of paper.

"Hey, Tori?" She looks up.

"Oh hey, didn't see you there. What's up?" It looks like I came at the wrong time.

"Uh- It's ok, I'll come back later." I start to walk away

"No it's ok. How long were you waiting?"

"Your brother's alive?"

"Yeah. Trust me, I'm still processing it."

"What's wrong? Aren't you happy?" She looks confused.

"Of course I am. It's just that she said that I'm Divergent but that's impossible right?"

"Hey, I didn't know about Divergence until Amar so you're asking the wrong person."

"She said that being Diverging is part of your genes, and since both my parents were Divergent, it automatically makes me divergent."

"Are you sure that you can trust her?"

"Yeah, the tattoo she got, it was his handwriting. She also gave me a letter from him and the stuff that was written, it was definitely him."

We just sat there thinking for a bit and then she started to talk again.

"How old is she?"

"What do you mean? Sixteen, like everyone else that choses."

"The way she was talking and acting, she could be my age."

After I think about it, it's true. As much as we are raised to act politely, she does it but has something extra about it. Almost like to the extreme but does it better. You know?

"But something about her makes me think that she is younger. Anyway, the tattoo right?"

"Oh uhhh ya."

"I don't have much yet but I think you might like it."

"Ok," she hands me some papers with a few different designs.

"What's wrong?" Tori asks.

"What?"

"That face you are making, you do it every time you are overthinking something. What's wrong?"

"There's something about her that isn't right."

"What do you mean?"

"She either flinches or punches someone when they touch her and the first knife she threw, it landed perfectly on the target. A bullseye."

"That's impressive."

"No, it's inhuman. Any Dauntless takes months to be able to do that."

"Just talk to her."

"How?"

"Wow ok, I think even Zeek could figure that out. Four, bring back your Abnegation self and talk to her or find a way to get her alone and ask her whatever is on your mind."

"I guess." I don't know what to think.

"Oh and Four, she's divergent." Fuck. I'm not going to let her die but I'm going to save the person that Jeanine works for? If she died, Jeanine could stop her hunt. If they were to find out she was Divergent, they wouldn't kill her because they work for her. I don't have to save her. Yet something is telling me that I should save her.

"Ok, I think I'm going to head back." I started walking out again.

"Four," she sounds sad, I turn around. "Whatever you're thinking, don't let her die. Please." I've never seen Tori basically beg me to save someone's life.

"Ok." With that I left and didn't look back.

When I get back to my apartment, I decide to show the initiates their scores. Honestly, it took me a while debating whether I should give Tris points for when she conceded. She was winning and then she just conceded. Then Molly came after her and Tris took her out. Like what am I supposed to do?

I decided that I would give Tris points as if she won plus a few for bravery. Plus, some of the moves that she used were way above what most people can do in Dauntless. She deserves it.
