Chapter 19
That night, we got back late. Will and Christina went straight to bed but I couldn't. I needed to make a plan for what I planned to do when I go see Jeanine.
I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I hear is a yell. I got out of bed and tried to figure out what was happening.
The yell was male, and it seemed that it came from the other side of the room. I got up typing to figure out where this person was.
Someone was yelling to turn on the lights. It took them a few seconds but I found the person. Edward.
I got on my knees beside his head and saw the butter knife in his eye. More people start screaming and I just wish they would shut up.
"Edward, Edward, can you hear me?" he moves his head to look toward me but I grab both sides of his face with my hand to stop him from moving.
"Edward, you have to stop moving ok?"
I need something to stabilize his eye. I take off my shirt and wrap it around the knife. Everyone is still screaming.
I put one hand around the knif to make sure it doesn't move and hold the side of his head with the other hand.
I can see tears in his eyes. I move my head so it's directly above his eyes.
"Edward, can you talk to me? How are you feeling?"
"Take it out!"
"Shhh, it's ok."
"No! Take it out!"
"Edward, you were Erudite right, so you know that if I pull it out and I do it wrong, you will lose your sight."
"Just take it out. Please," he cries.
"It's ok. Breath with me." I inhale deeply and so does he, I exhale and so does he. We continue this until a nurse comes in.
"Ok, I'll take it from here," the nurse says, taking my shirt off from around the knife.
"What are you doing?"
"Taking this whatever it is off."
"Why?"
"Because it isn't doing anything."
"I beg to differ."
"What?"
"That shirt is what's keeping the knife from doing more damage."
"Well inichiet, get out of my way. I know what I'm doing and you're just some dumb persoon tryign to be better than everyone else."
"Well I'm sorry that I want to give him his best shot at keeping his eye!"
"If you want your boyfriend to keep his eye, get out of my way."
"Boyfriend? He is definitely not my boyfriend."
"Well then what I said stays the same, I'm the nurse, get out of my way."The worst part is that I know she is right, she is the nurse and she can do whatever she wants and I can't do a single thing about it, so i step aside and let her so her.
"What the hell is happening?" Eric. Of course, this man has the worst timing. I roll my eyes.
Wait. This is the perfect time, Eric, Maz and Jeanine have been having meetings since Erci transferred two years ago. Eric is working with Jeanine so if I can use him to get to Jeanine and crush her plan or plans.
I walk towards him. "Eric." He looks at me with an annoyed expression.
"What do you want, Stiff?" Gosh, what I would do to get away from him now.
"You're asking the wrong question, it's what do you want."
"That's what I just asked you."
"No, I mean what do you and Jeanine want? The plan won't work, there are too many flaws and it turns out, I have what you need."
"What would a Stiff have that we need?"
"How about I ask you why Four would take a job in intelligence and not be a leader. Well, it's no secret that he was in the leadership program but Max wanted him, he knew he had something you didn't, something that would help the plan."
"I don't care what that Stiff did or does." Good, that means that they don't suspect anything. "You say that you have something that will help us, prove it."
"Ok, what do you want me to do?"
He pauses thinking. "Go see Jeanine today, she'll tell you."
"Alright then, I'll see her today in her office."
And with that, he smirks and leaves. I don't know what to expect for today.
I'm suppressed that Eric followed up. He said that today's training was canceled because of the Edward situation. Luckily, it seems that Will and Christina wanted to go do something so I could go to Erudite without them questioning anything.
I'm currently on the train and it happened again, I swear I saw him. I try to get that feeling to go away but it won't. Guess I just have to live with it for the rest of the day.
I finally make it to the Erudite. I walk into the building I wsaw most of the people in and assumed that that where I could find her.
When I walk in, there is a big painting of Jeanine. It's horrifying. I don't say anything to the person at the front desk and just walk in. I take the stairs knowing that there aren't many people that take them considering the higher of the building p, I don't blame them. By the time I got to the top of the building, I was happy. I walk through the door ps where I'm greeted by people yelling.
"Your so dumb! Why would you have told her about this?" Said a female voice that I au me is Jeanine.
"I didn't, she already knew!" That was definitely Eric.
"Well, how could she have known? Ever thought of that?" Jeanine questioned.
"I don't know, but trust me ok, there's something about her that I don't know but she knows more than we think." Said Eric. Was he defending me?
"Whatever happens with her, you are the one that is taking the blame!" Jeanine yells.
"Hello?" I shout before anyone gets to speak again.
Jeanine and Eric come out from the office and observe me.
"This is her? I thought you said she was good," Jeanine said.
"Well she seems to know a lot," Eric defends himself.
"Well it seems that you lost your touch, haven't you?" Jeanine shoots back.
"You know I'm right here right? And you can't blame the guy, I was very persuasive."
"Oh, is that so?" Jeanine turns to me and talks.
"Yes and honestly, I don't want to spend more time then necessary here so how about I just show you how helpful I can be?"
"And how would you do that?" Jeanine asks.
"Give me anything, something to hack, create a code, whatever you want and I will show you."
"You do know that we have people that can do that here right?"
"Yes, but not all of them know the code for the serum you posses." Jeanine looks shocked.
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"Cut the crap. The fear landscape, 8472. You keep it on the third floor next to what you call 'the fear serum', you know the one that makes you see your biggest fear without having to be in the landscape. And the code for that would be 25749."
"Continue."
"The one that no one is supposed to know, is the one you plan on using for the attack against Abnegation. Whatever you call it, at the moment it has four locks to get to. First, getting into the basement in which you need a key card. To get out of the elevator, you need a fingerprint id. The first door to the-"
"That's enough. What the heck are you trying to get? Are you a spy? You were Abnegation before."
"I'm here because you need help. Your plan is not going to work to get rid of the Abnegations but to also find and kill the Divergents."
"And how would you know that?" Jeanine asks.
"Your system that you say is unhackable, well its been hacked."
"By who?" Jeanine asks.
"What? You're the leader of Erudite yet you can't figure out a child? Man, even hair gel over here could figure it out."
Eric goes to say something when Jeanine puts her hand up as a sign of silence.
"You. You hacked it?"
"Yup. So, can we start talking about your plan?"
Both Eric and Jeanine seem to be taken aback by my response. The soon lead me to the office that they were in when I entered and spent a good part of the day trying to get the most information out of them.
Boy, I can't wait to leave Chicago.
