Chapter 24

Recap:

David cut ties with Tris because of her decision to choose Dauntless instead of Erudite.

Tris and Four had talked about their past without saying who or what actually happened. Tris thought about how her life has changed, especially since she moved to Chicago.

Jack is Tris' older brother who is getting back in touch with her, with bad news.

Once I stop thinking about how my life has changed, I get up and head to the simulation room.

As I'm walking, I'm aware of how dark it is. It's winter now so I explainens it a bit. It's also quiet, everyone would be at work by now, lunch is over so no reason to be roaming the halls.

All of a sudden, I'm tackled to the ground. No noise escapes me. I feel someone turning me around so I'm now facing the ceiling instead of the floor.

Whoever tackled me finally shows their face and I don't know what to do. I feel him punch my face and then stand up. I try to stand as well but all that happens is I get kicked on the side.

A "oumf" sound comes out. I keep getting kicked and then he stops.

It gives me enough time to stand up.

"After all this time, you still think you have a chance against me?" he asks. "I bet you thought about me every day, knowing I would kill you when you come back."
"Thinking about you would give you much pleasure wouldn't it? Then you would be happy to know that I never thought about you. You would never be worth the time."
"You bitch!" and he lunges at me.

I know it seems like this would come out of a movie, where the two people who are fighting would spend most of the time talking or telling them how they failed, and it kind of is. We try to get into each other's heads but we know we can't. We are looking for weak spots. He's slow but smart, he won't spend an ounce of energy or strength if he doesn't have to. I can take a fall and won't give up even if I have nothing left.

When he lunges at me, I jump. He always aims low so if I go up, I can avoid his hit. I jump onto his back and he falls to the floor. I know it's better if I run away, if something were to happen to him, I would get in trouble and I can't.

As I try to run, of course, he grabs my ankle. I fall flat on my face.

Ouch.

He crawls onto my back and starts hitting me. I don't move.

I wait for the moment. It's the moment that you would be able to do it. Whether it's your jump in volleyball, your position in basketball, your set in gymnastics. It's that perfect moment you were waiting for, because you know that you will be able to do it.

"You should know by know that you would never win." "Remember who is in charge," "You are a disgrace to the family."

And then it comes, a moment of hesitation.

I punch him where the sun don't shine.

A loud "hum" sound comes out and he falls to the side. I take my chance and stand up. I notice my surroundings, we are at the chasm. Two steps and I would be on the metal grates saving me from falling to my death.

One I know where I am, I quickly evaluate my options.

1. Take a few steps and hopefully be able to throw him over.

2. Run away

3. Fight until he is unconscious and run away.

None of the options are good. Either one would most likely get me killed.

In the end, I didn't get the chance to react, he got to me before I was able to do anything.

He knocked me down so I'm now on the metal grates.

This is gonna be fun, I think sarcastically.

He keeps me on my back and starts hitting me. I know there is no way to get out of this, so I do nothing. I don't try to get out of the hold he has on me because I know there is no way. The only thing I do is cover my head.

I knew that there was nothing I could do.

FOUR POV

When I leave Tris, I feel better, I know that I'm able to go to her, she knows what pain is and she's probably the only one that could understand me.

I arrive at the simulation room and start putting each person through. When I get to the end, I realise that Tris is still not here. But what makes me worried is that Christina is standing outside the door.

"Uhh, Four, have you seen Tris?" She asks

"No, why?"

"Oh, I just haven't seen her since lunch and I didn't know if you would know where she would be. We were supposed to hang out, that's all. But thanks, if you see her, let her know I'll be at the tattoo parlor."

"For sure."

I'm now 100% worried, where would Tris have gone? I decided that I would head to the surveillance room to see if I can find where she is.

In a few minutes, I'm there. I go to the first available computer and start looking. I don't find anything and I'm ready to say that she is probelbeu in their room when I see someone I've never seen before. I see he is heading to the chasm and decide to go take a look.

When I get there, I see Tris on the floor covering her head and the same man on her back, beating her up. I leap into action. I don't know what went through me, but I know I need to protect her.

I run up to him and punch him in the face. I punch him off of her and make sure to be in a position that I can protect her. I fight him until he is on the ground. And I keep punching him until I hear a voice.

"Tobais," it was barley a whisper, and I freeze, was that Tris?

Unfortunately, that gave the unknown man an advantage, he punched me to the ground, heading for Tris.

He picked her up and hangs her over the chasm.

"I should have killed you when I had the chance. You are a disgrace to my family!" He said and then spat in her face.

Happy Halloween! I will update soon, promise!
