Summary/disclaimer: time for another chapter of Warwitch and her guardian. Enjoy the 1000-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.
"I do not believe I need remind you of your assignments." Selvaria stated as she began to pace back and forth between what had to be hundreds of Imperial soldiers. "You will be the first wave of the empire's expansion into these new lands." Selvaria added to the various soldiers.
They began to talk to themselves. Selvaria knew MANY of them were afraid of her, afraid of the power she wielded. One of them held up his hand which caused the crimson eyed general to turn to the soldier.
"Yes, soldier?" Selvaria asked as the soldier lowered his hand.
"Ma'am, what exactly are we up against? Command hasn't offered any details on this mission." The soldier said while looking at the ground with annoyance.
Selvaria started to think over who this soldier was a moment. She looked over the rest of the soldiers who served her before she responded a second later.
"What is your name, soldier?" Selvaria asked as she slowly descended from the podium, she had used moments ago for her speech to her men below.
"Raines, ma'am." The shocktrooper added as he looked at her with interest. "Captain Raines Balint of your first division. I mean no disrespect by asking, general." Raines put in as Selvaria nodded.
"Captain, we are not certain… I have sent a squad outward to observe the enemy." Selvaria said while looking over her soldiers a second later. "And I will PERSONALLY be leading the excursion into this territory… We do need to seize a Ragnite refinery that has since fallen under what I seem to believe the enemy faction has seized." Selvaria stated which got looks from the enemy.
Selvaria was curious about WHOM had actually seized the refinery. This was imperial territory and the last thing she could believe was someone managed to seize a factory on their territory.
"You are dismissed, we will head into enemy territory in 1 day… I need to discuss things with the other generals." Selvaria ordered with a wave of her hand as she watched the rest of the army slowly move once more.
She could only ponder what had happened to question what the enemy had brought to this place. She had to check into the rest of her scouts once more. Selvaria was going to rest while question while she knew for a fact that things would possibly be impossible for her men.
There would be soldiers on both sides ripping into each other once more. She knew they would be prepared at the moment for her forces, what enemy would take a location not expecting a counterattack?
"You are still here, Captain." Selvaria stated to Raines who nodded. "Should you not be rallying your platoon for the counterattack? We don't know what the enemy's strength will be." Selvaria added before Raines cleared his throat.
"You know the majority of us are worried about you, ma'am." Raines said with a frown visible under his armor. "How prepared are we for this campaign? You've not told us what we're up against at the moment… Your never secretive about it." Raines stated which got a hum from Selvaria.
She was never secretive about her plans with the rest of her division. Radi was much more familiar with his men, Selvaria had taken from his tactics, making sure to memorize her soldiers, bond with them so they understood her and followed orders better.
She had failed on the task if some of her men were not known to her… But Selvaria was determined to rectify that error.
"Because I am unsure how many men will die retaking it." Selvaria said as she closed her eyes. "And I thank you for your concern, but it is unneeded at the moment. I have plenty to focus on at the moment, one of which is the mission." Selvaria stated before she turned towards the planning room.
"Caring about our commander is not a weakness, ma'am." Raine said while crossing his arms over his chest. "You've cared a lot about us. I can't not return some of it… Just remember you can tell us; we don't work for you just because it's our duty like with other generals." Raine said before he turned and started to walk away a moment later.
Selvaria was silent, curious as to what came next. The meeting with the generals would determine a lot at the end of the day… But Selvaria risked a glance over towards Raine before he turned to look around as she hummed.
She watched the soldier depart through the door. She was quite interested in how this campaign would end… It would be eventful, and with more soldiers being sent into combat? Selvaria wondered if she should make a personal appearance.
No, she owed her men as much of a fair fight at the end of the day as they gave. They personally sent themselves into combat for the empire and fought on her behalf.
"Hmm…" Selvaria said while she flicked a strand of hair from her face. "I should check to make sure the rest of my reinforcements are prepared. I must make sure our scouts survived." Selvaria stated as she sighed and went to get her shield and lance before something happened.
She would set up camp outside the refinery and accompany the first wave into the facility. There was plenty to do today before this was done and over with at the end of the day.
Author notes
Phew. Another chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be quite long. I also want to point out that Raine and a lot of Selvaria's men are NOT going to be evil like the empire is. Next chapter is in 2-10 months and will show Selvaria's advance into enemy territory and her talking with Raine again. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: Next chapter is 900-6500 words.
