Maya reread the message multiple times and tears started to cascade down her face again. In the back of her mind she had somehow known that she had a problem, but anorexia? Really? She wasn't a thirteen year old attention seeking girl. The only thing she was sure of was that she couldn't keep going like this much longer. The thoughts about food and how to restrict had become intrusive some time ago, it was no longer something Maya controlled but the thoughts were very much controlling her, in charge of her everyday life, consuming most of her energy. She definitely needed help to get out of this spiral. And Carina had offered help constantly and all she had done was pushing her away. And Carina had been willing to give her yet another chance. Maya didn't think that she deserved this kind of love. She was about to text Carina back when the alarm went off, resulting in an annoyed groan. Could the timing have been any worse? To make matters even worse they were called to a three alarm fire in a large apartment complex that was likely to require their attention well into the morning hours. The fire had been going on for more than two hours already; multiple other stations had already been on the scene and therefore Maya wasn't the commanding captain on this call and hence joined squad in search and rescue. Even though adrenaline was coursing though her body due to the big call she felt pretty shaken and dizzy. But she had to get through this call, she couldn't be weak now. They were entering a part of the building that hadn't been impacted by the that much yet but due to it still being out of control, it was important to make sure that everyone had left the building. Maya was with Vic. They had already searched the second and first floor and now started to search the basement, Maya felt herself physically getting weaker but decided to push through anyways. "There's some smoke in the basement, don't know where it's coming from", she heard Andy reported into the radio. As the smoke got thicker still, Travis shouted: "How is this possible? The fire shouldn't be here yet." "I know, let's try and concentrate on the source of that smoke and keep looking for any victims", Maya ordered with determination to stay in control of the call and of herself. But then, before either of them could have seen it coming, a huge metal pipe of the ventilation system broke, fell from the ceiling and slammed into Maya, knocking her to the floor. The smoke became more dense, apparently the ventilation system was how the fire had continued spreading to this part of the building. "Maya", Andy shouted, hurrying to her captain and friend. "Mayday, firefighter down. We need an ambo.", Travis radioed in. There were no injuries visible on the captain, but she was unconscious. "Maya, come on. Wake up.", Andy tried to wake her up. The fire continued spreading and finally reached their part of the basement. "Andy, we have to get her out of here.", Travis called. There was no time to wait for paramedics, they had to get Maya out of there as soon as possible. Still, they tried their best to stabilise her head as much as possible while hurrying to get Maya out. They couldn't rule out a head and or spinal cord injury. Outside, paramedics were already waiting for them and Maya was strapped onto a spinal board and a c-collar was fastened around her neck. Andy rode with her to the hospital while Travis had to go back in as fire was still far from under control. Maya remained unconscious, but at least her oxygen saturation was at 92 without additional oxygen and she was still breathing on her own, although a little too shallow. Her pulse was too slow and her blood pressure was pretty low, but stable. When Andy helped to remove her uniform, it was revealed that her right arm seemed to have been impacted the most. Her shoulder was painful obviously dislocated and the rest of her arm was already discoloured. Andy was in full paramedic mode and avoided looking at Maya's face to block out that her friend was the patient. They soon arrived at the ambulance bay of Grey Sloan, Dr. Bailey and Dr. Hunt rushed towards them as they pushed Maya into the E.R. "What have we got?"

"32 year-old female, GCS 12, BP 70, heart rate 45, possible smoke inhalation, patient was slammed to the ground, she was unconscious upon impact, obvious injury to her right shoulder and arm.", one of the paramedics rattled down. "Captain Bishop", Dr. Bailey said worriedly, "thanks we've got it from here." Andy wasn't allowed in the trauma room, so she went into the waiting area but was too anxious to sit down. It was just past 1 am. She would have to call Carina. Her hands were shaking as she got the phone from her pocket. Carina picked up after two rings sounding sleepy at first: "Andy? What's wrong? Is Maya okay?", in her head she went through all the scenarios. "She was injured on a call, Carina. Bailey and Hunt are with her. She is unconscious but still breathing on her own. I don't know much else."

"I'm on my way."

"Be careful."
