Thunder Kittens

Chapter 6

Tremors

"So good news," Cheetara started sitting on the edge of the large bed as they got ready to climb in. "Jaga says next month we can move back to the noble housing."

"Are you ok with that?" Tygra asked climbing into the bed laying on his back arms behind his head. He watched her take her earrings off before climbing in beside him.

"I don't know, Tygra. I'm more concerned with the kittens than I am us." The pretty cheetah curled on her side facing him. "I mean, I know I said I'd never go back but that was before all of this."

"Would it help if we got together officially? If we're actually mates by the law then there isn't much they can complain about." He offered turning his head towards her.

She blushed bright red in response unable to look him in the eye. "T-Tygra, I-I don't want to rush anything."

"Why not? We already have kittens and we're all but living together." He pressed. "It would make it all official."

"Is it not already official?" She asked placing her hand on his. "I just don't like being caged or tied up. I love you so much, I just don't know if I'm ready to say yes."

"I know you love me and I love you. It's why I'm waiting."

"But you can't wait forever."

"No but I'm willing to try."

She moved closer and rested her head on his chest interwining her fingers with his. He rested his chin on her head, "Just think about it…"

Right as they were both starting to sleep the room started to shake. "T-Tygra what is-?" They both got out of the bed quickly running for the kittens room.

"Kit? Kat? Stay where you are." Tygra commanded his voice echoing down the hallway over the rumbling. "Cheetara and I are coming."

"The entire unit is shaking.. a quake?" She asked as they entered the kittens room just in time to stop a book case from falling on the twins.

"Quick under the bed."

Wily Kit curled up close next to Tygra as she watched the housing unit shake in front of her. It didn't click that she was in it as it was shaking. Kat was just as sleepy. "T-Tygra what's going on?"

"It's ok Kitten. You're safe." He held Kit close as Cheetara held Kat close. They were both scared themselves.

"Are we safe under here?" Cheetara asked over the rumbling. She winced as she heard screams outside, loud crashes and windows shattering followed.

"As safe as we can be.." He answered trying to sound confident. However, he knew they were on the fourth floor. The only real safe spot was in a doorway but this would do. Obviously if the floors collapsed it wouldn't matter where they were. He just prayed that this building was constructed to the building code.

A few minutes later the shaking stopped. There was silence as the ground stood still. "Cheetara are you ok? Kit? Kat?" The kitten in his arms nodded clinging tighter.

"Kat and I are ok. Think it's safe to get out?"

"I think so, just get out slowly and be careful, you don't know what's fallen."

Slowly the four of them emerged from underneath the beds they had hidden under to view the mess. "Oh man," Wily Kat whispered. Their unit was destroyed.

Wily Kit looked out the window curiously, "Tygra …what happened?"

"Kit, get away from the window. Don't look out there." The tiger picked her up and carried her over to Cheetara before setting her down on her feet. "Well Cheetara, good news, it's no longer a hard to decision to decide whether to move or not."

The Cheetah nodded silently.
