The next day, everyone was busy. Luke and Lorelai left for their honeymoon. Then, Rory discovered a message from Time Out, a magazine in London that requested a meeting with her. Rory took that as a sign from the universe: that she should go to London and talk to Logan in the same trip. Her engaged ex-boyfriend was the father of her baby and he needed to be informed. She missed Logan with all her heart, but he was engaged. She needed to be an adult about the whole thing. She needed to let him go. He was on a path to a life that he obviously wanted, and she didn't want to stand in his way. The thought of him with someone else hurt so badly, but it was inevitable.

Time Out sent her a first-class ticket for the same night, on the red eye flight from Hartford to Heathrow in London, with a stop in New York at JFK. Rory didn't love the red eye, but they paid for it and sent it to her. She needed a paying job, so she decided to go for it. Also, delivering this news to Logan in person would be best. She didn't want to blow up his life, but he needed to know she was expecting a baby. Rory refused to do to Logan what Anna Nardini did to Luke.

Rory asked Babette to look after Paul Anka and then she left for the airport. She got there in plenty of time and checked in. She had no idea how she might tell Logan, but it had to be done. She was going to be a mother, so she needed to learn to act like an adult. Perhaps?

The flight wasn't very full, and she didn't even have anyone sitting next to her window seat. She decided to snooze for a while to pass the time.

Meanwhile, Logan was just numb. He knew that breaking up with Odette was the right thing to do – even if it meant that he spent the rest of his life alone. After he left Star's Hollow, he didn't quite know what to do. He had driven straight there after he stepped off the plane, so he didn't really have a plan for afterwards. He ended up on the I-95, just driving and driving. Finally, he stopped in New York City where he got a hotel room. He needed to rest and attempt to figure out his next move. Logan ordered room service and had a long, hot shower. He let the disappointment wash over him like a tidal wave. He was too late. He loved her – and it was finally, truly, completely over. For the first time in many years, Logan found himself curled up in the fetal position. He let himself wallow – he cried until he sobbed. He could handle the most aggressive people in business but a tiny woman like Rory Gilmore could completely gut him and bring him to his knees. Logan decided that he would let himself wallow tonight. He would give himself permission to mourn the prospect of the relationship he almost had. Tomorrow would be a new day.

Logan woke up in the morning with a new resolve. He text Colin to meet him for lunch. Then he booked a flight home to London for that afternoon – it was over, he was done. At least he tried, right? He had all the resolve in the world until he saw her with THAT guy. He was the same guy that caused them to break up ten years ago. She looked content in his arms and his expression towards Rory was nothing short of adoration. It was time for Logan to bow out and throw up his hands in defeat.

Logan sat there, dressed and waiting for the time to meet Colin to roll around. While he did, he just stared at whatever was on TV in a daze. His mind played back all of their fun times together in slow motion. Then he remembered all of the times they had hurt each other and decided that maybe they were both better off.

He was jolted out of his reverie by a text message. His flight was cancelled because of an equipment issue, and he was automatically booked on the next available seat to Heathrow. If that didn't work for him, he was supposed to contact them for a re-seating. Logan shrugged. The sooner he could get back to London, the sooner he could start moving on.

Logan arrived at the restaurant about twenty minutes early to meet Colin. He ordered a double scotch and a glass of water. He downed the scotch in one swift move and immediately ordered another. As he walked into the dining room, he noticed Logan gulping the amber liquid like a marathon runner would gulp water after a race. Colin knew that something must have happened, but he was nearly afraid to ask what. By the time Colin sat down across from him, he was on his fourth.

Colin opened with, "Hey, my friend. How are you?"

Logan set his empty glass down and said, "Well, I'm fine, I guess." Colin narrowed his eyes at Logan, having known him for thirty years at this point, he knew all of Logan's tells. "Well…" and he trailed off.

Colin tried again. "So….." Colin took a deep breath. "I don't know what to say or ask or anything at all. But its good to see you."

Logan gave him a small smile, "You too."

Colin pursed his lips and then decided to stop with the small talk. "Last time I saw you, you seemed to have a plan. How's all that going?" He winced as he braced for whatever might come his way because of his question.

Logan said, "Well, I called off the engagement the very next day. Then I spent many weeks dealing with the fallout. Apparently, HPG and the Marquis family had become far more entangled than I realized. But its all done and final." Colin sighed but Logan continued. "Once everything was over, I came here to see Rory. I was finally done with everything and free to try again with her in earnest. I saw her yesterday. I was too late, Colin. She was with someone else – and she seems really happy. But either way, I finally did the right thing with Odette and…."

Colin cut him off. "Wait, how long has she been with someone else? What did she say? She actually told you no? I just don't believe that!"

Logan shook his head. "Not exactly. I went to her house and looked for her. I finally found her at a wedding – her mom's wedding. She was dancing with her ex and she just looked so happy and content. I didn't want to mess that up for her. I couldn't."

Colin squinted at him. "What?! But what did she say?"

Logan looked at the floor. "I didn't actually talk to her. I couldn't. I saw her and that was all I needed. She never knew I was there."

Colin was floored. "Wait, What?! You seriously didn't even speak to her? She didn't know you were there? She was dancing with some guy?" Logan nodded. "Did you see anything definitive?" Logan squinted at him, tilting his head to the side like a dog. "Did she kiss him or anything?" Logan shook his head. Colin wiped his brow and closed his eyes. "So, you chickened out and didn't even speak to her? She didn't even know you were there?" Logan nodded slowly. "WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK, LOGAN?!"

Logan put his head in his hands. "I just couldn't hear her say the words that she doesn't want me."

Colin replied, "I know this is a douche-y thing to say, but you don't have her now. How would that be worse?"

Logan left his head in his hands. "I don't fucking know anymore. She looked happy and I'm a pathetic mess. She finally looked happy. I didn't want to fuck with her life any more than I already have." He sighed deeply and rubbed his face with his hands. "Anyway, I have a flight out tonight. Once I get off the plane, I'm done with this. Its going to the back corner of my mind and I'm going to get over her. Even if I need to hire a hypnotist, I'm going to get over her." Colin stared at him. "I am!" Logan insisted. Colin just shook his head sadly.

Colin pursed his lips again and quietly said, "Ok." Then he changed the subject. They talked about sports and mutual friends and Colin's law practice. Once the check had been paid and they were about to leave, Colin finally implored Logan. "Would you please give this some thought before you completely write this off?"

Logan responded, "All I've done is think about it."

Colin wasn't satisfied. "Would you continue thinking about it until you decide to talk to her? How long has it been since you guys have had an honest conversation about what you both want? What if she wants you too? Right now, she likely still believes that you are engaged to someone else. And…. all she was doing was dancing with someone. So what? If you'd seen her having sex with someone else, would it change how you feel about her? Because I don't think it would. I think you're using this as an excuse to chicken out."

Logan sighed. "Probably. Maybe I'll call her in a few days."

Colin was exasperated. "What if you try to talk to her at least while you're both in the same freaking country?"

Logan frowned. "Because if I call her and she doesn't pick up, I will assume she's with him. And I will be completely gutted. Right now, she still hasn't said no." Colin nodded. "Maybe I will reach out to her soon and try to get a temperature on the situation?"

Colin nodded again. "Okay, buddy. All I will say is that there is one girl that I let get away back in college. I will regret it for the rest of my life. She's married now. She has kids with someone else. Is that what you want to happen to Rory? Do you want to be 50 or 60 and wonder what she's doing and what she might have said?"

Logan shook his head. "I really don't. But her mom got married yesterday. She's likely busy. I will give her some time for things to calm down and I will call her. I promise."

Colin smiled. "Okay. Do it your way. But DO IT."

They got up and walked out. Colin gave Logan and 'bro-hug' and they said goodbye.

Before they met for lunch, Logan checked out of his hotel when he believed he had a three o'clock flight, so he had about eight hours to kill and nowhere to go. He didn't remember the last time he saw his sister, so he called to see if she was free. Honor jumped at the chance to see her little brother. She immediately invited him over, so he spent the afternoon with his sister and her family. They watched a movie together in her living room and ordered pizza. Before Logan knew it, it was time to leave for the airport. He left in plenty of time to make it to JFK, considering he still had to return the rental car and get through security for his international flight. But once he started driving to the airport, there was a horrible car accident a few miles ahead and traffic was at a standstill.

Logan was officially having the worst weekend ever.
