When Rory's family received the news that she was improving and would likely be okay, the mood in the room lifted immediately. Lorelai embraced Luke in happiness. Paris threw her arms around the person standing next to her when she heard the news. That person happened to be Mitchum Huntzberger, who remained still like a statue with his arms at his sides. He was startled but didn't react. He didn't remember her name, but he knew she was familiar from Logan's Yale days.

Dr. Amanda Burkes noticed when Jess smiled to himself, watching Paris embrace Mitchum. Judging from Mitchum's expensive suit and coat, he was used to people with decorum and demure manners. He likely was NOT used to crazy unhinged female doctors like Paris. Jess was the only person not hugging someone and Amanda noticed him. Jess also noticed Amanda. She was beautiful, blonde, petite and obviously very intelligent. He was so relieved at the good news.

Amanda grinned at Jess. She asked, "Did you have any other questions?" She tilted her head to the side slightly and waited for him to respond.

"Umm, where can I get a decent cup of coffee around here?" Jess decided to go for it. "Because I've already had a good bit of the stuff from the cafeteria and…."

She chuckled, "Yeah, it needs work. There's a decent coffee shop on the corner. Go out the main entrance and take a left."

Jess took a step towards the door and then looked back at her. He swore he saw her frown as he started to leave. "Hey, Dr. Burkes, by any chance, do you have time to take a break and join me?" She gazed at him as he continued. "You've been so great to my friend; I would love to thank you with some decent coffee. You don't know her but thanking someone with good coffee is considered the highest honor." He smirked at her as she considered it.

Amanda smiled at him and glanced at her watch. "Yeah, I have a little time." She looked up at him through her lashes and said, "And please, call me Amanda."

"Ok, Amanda," Jess said as he placed his hand on the small of her back while he led her out of the waiting room. Luke and Mitchum watched them leave. They exchanged a look with raised eyebrows while Mitchum slowly nodded his approval.

Meanwhile, Lorelai and Paris discussed other possibilities and Lorelai asked Paris a bunch of 'what-if?' medical questions, most of which were not even remotely possible.

Mitchum took a deep breath and asked Luke, "So is there anything I can do to help?" He lowered his voice and told Luke, "I would like to do something, anything, to pitch in however I can. Is there anything you need?"

Lorelai overheard and interrupted their conversation. "Mitchum? I have a request if you really want to do something?"

Mitchum nodded and said, "Of course. Just say the word."

Lorelai sat down on one of the horrible, plastic-covered couches in the waiting room and gestured for the others to do the same. "Well, I haven't had a chance to inform my mother about any of this yet. Once she knows, I believe she will want to be here right away." Mitchum nodded. "But she lives in Nantucket now. It's tricky with ferries and flights and schedules. I know you have access to private transportation. Would you please be able to make sure she gets here safely? Normally, I would do it myself…."

Mitchum nodded and put his hand on her shoulder. "Say no more. Let me know once you inform her and I can take it from there. All I need is her phone number and we can handle it."

"Thank you," Lorelai said to him while Luke nodded in agreement. "That's huge."

Mitchum nodded and said, "It's the least I can do." He opened his wallet and pulled out two of his business cards. He wrote his personal cell phone number on the back and handed them to each Lorelai and Luke. "This is the best way to contact me, if you think of anything else that I can do."

Luke nodded, "Thanks, Mitchum." He thought for a minute and asked Lorelai, "Have you called Chris yet?"

Lorelai shook her head. "I didn't have any real info yet and what I DID know was terrifying. And it never really occurred to me to tell him." Mitchum listened quietly to the exchange but didn't interfere.

Luke nodded and stood up. "I'm going to call him and check on everything at home. Do you want anything to eat or drink? Or anything else?"

She shook her head and said, "No, but thank you." Luke kissed her on the head as he left.

Lorelai told Mitchum, "I believe we're going to be in-laws…."

Mitchum nodded, "That's what I hear."

Lorelai told Mitchum, "We've met before actually. I'm not sure if you recall."

Mitchum squinted and shook his head slowly. "Sorry…. I really don't. But the kids have known each other so long, I'm sure we have."

Lorelai decided to remind him, "During Logan's last year at Yale, he invited Rory, Luke, and me to your house in Martha's Vineyard for the weekend. You and Logan had a misunderstanding and you arrived to take him to London."

Mitchum nodded slowly, "Right. That was a difficult time. Logan and I took a long time to eventually get on the same page. Sometimes I think we still have a bit of a disconnect."

Lorelai nodded. "Logan is your son and I understand family expectations. What happens between the two of you is your business." She narrowed her gaze - her voice was quiet and even. "But my daughter will not be involved in whatever expectations you have for your family business." Mitchum held up his hand to interrupt her, but she continued anyway. "And regarding the grandchildren that our families will share, you will NEVER speak to them in the manner you spoke to Logan that day. I won't have it." He started to speak again but she cut him off yet again. "I promise you. I remember what you said to Rory when she interned for you. I forgive you, but I will never forget. I know exactly what you are capable of, and its not going to happen again. Not to my family. Do we understand each other?"

Mitchum pursed his lips and nodded. "We do."

Lorelai smiled and nodded. "Thank you. Now that we have that out of the way, I'm going to go see Rory." Mitchum looked at her, blinking a little. She stood up and gestured with her head in the direction of the ICU direction. "Come on. You can check on your kid too."

"Uhhhh," stammered Mitchum.

"You got this. Its hard and it sucks to be here. But its going to mean the world to Logan that you are here," she said.

He narrowed his eyes and raised one eyebrow. "You think so?"

"Well," she said "If anything was ever going to mean the world to him, this is it. You traveling here and supporting him is huge." He stood up and offered her is arm. She took it and they walked into the ICU together.

While they walked down the hall, Mitchum looked at Lorelai and saw so much of Emily in her that it startled him. He'd known Emily and Richard so long that he remembered when Lorelai was born. After all, she was only ten years older than Honor. He also noted that she wouldn't appreciate him noting the similarities between her and her mother, so he kept his musings to himself.

Mitchum had spent quite a bit of time in this exact hospital unit when his father was sick and eventually died. This was something else that he kept to himself. He shivered when he walked past the exact room where his father died. Lorelai still held his arm and noticed the shiver. She said, "I know. This place is horrible." She didn't know the details of Elias's death, and he didn't volunteer.

Mitchum didn't know that this was the same hospital where Richard was taken after his last heart attack. Emily and Lorelai waited in the ER waiting room for what seemed like forever only to be told that "they did everything they could but….."

Lorelai and MItchum walked into Rory's room to see Logan on his knees at her bedside. Tears ran freely down his face, while he thanked God quietly for her improvements. He held her hand like a lifeline as he sobbed. Lorelai grabbed a few tissues from the counter and purposely made a little noise so that he would know he wasn't alone anymore. She approached him slowly as he stood up. She never imagined that Logan of all people would react this way. During hard times, she always imagined him stoic, shouting at people and ordering staff around, basically throwing money at problems. Either he was a different person now or he always was, and she had been wrong about him? Whatever the logic, Logan's reaction shocked her. She was glad that Rory had this man in her life. Lorelai gave him a small smile. "You okay?" she asked. Logan shrugged, never letting go of Rory's hand. "I know. Me too." She said because she completely understood his loss for words. Lorelai slipped her arm around Logan's waist and said, "You really should think about going and getting some rest."

Logan put his arm around her shoulders in response. "No…. YOU should think about going rest and have a shower. You probably didn't even get to bed last night?" he asked quietly. She shook her head but didn't say anything. Logan continued, "I will stay with her until you get back. I promise. If anything at all happens, I can let you know." Lorelai sighed and made a face. "Rory would also want you to take care of yourself." He raised his eyebrows at her.

Mitchum said, "I wanted to do something that might be helpful. There is a hotel down the street – The Goodwyn. I booked a few rooms in case anyone needs a place to rest or relax during all of this. Please, go. Recharge. We will be here – we're still on London time so we slept more recently than you." She and Logan exchanged a quick glance in disbelief. "I gave the concierge your name and Luke's name. By the way, I wasn't sure if you converted to Danes or not, so I said Gilmore. I hope that's okay? And I hope I didn't overstep?"

Lorelai shook her head. "No. Its so very thoughtful. Thank you for the gesture."

Mitchum took both of her hands in his. "It's the least I could do. If you need anything at all, just ask. I asked them to take excellent care of all of you."

Lorelai knew all about The Goodwyn. She owned her own hotel and had taken classes on hospitality that were modeled after The Goodwyn. "I'm sure it will be perfect. Thank you."

He nodded and said, "We're all going to get through this together. And let me know once you contact Emily. I'll handle the rest."

"Thank you again." Lorelai said. "And just between the three of us, its both scary and wonderful that Paris is one of her doctors." Both Huntzberger men nodded slowly as Paris walked in, as if on cue.

"Okay, I need to examine my patient again. Can we have a little privacy?" she asked as she began closing curtains and turning on lights.

Logan asked, "Paris, can I stay?"

Paris frowned and said, "Truthfully, you CAN but you don't want to. Trust me. Take a break and let me handle this." He sighed and still had not let go of Rory's hand. "You know, you probably still owe me some 2%. Why don't you go and handle that?" She smirked at him.

Logan winced as he remembered accidentally using the last of her milk and catching hell for it. "Right." He thought for a second and said, "I'm pretty sure I replaced it…"

Mitchum looked confused and Lorelai interjected, "We probably don't want to know. At one point Logan, Rory, Paris, and Doyle were roommates."

Paris scoffed. "Yeah. Roommates, freeloaders, tomato, to-MA-to….."

Logan said, "Okay, we're going to the waiting room. Do you need anything? You've been here a while too."

Paris shook her head. "Nah, I'm good. I keep a stash here." She made a shooing motion and said, "Okay, get out."

Logan stopped for a minute and kissed Rory's cheek and then her tummy for the baby. He whispered something in Rory's ear, and they disappeared so Paris could do her thing. Logan knew that Paris was just being Paris. And Rory would get the best care because of it.

"Thanks, Paris." Logan kissed her cheek before she could object, and they left so Paris do her work.
