Hi guys and gals! I'm so sorry for the very late update. I've had a lot of personal issues going on that are still going on. I'll try to update when I can so expect slow updates. I'm very sorry about that! Here's the next chapter for you all. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Guardians of the Galaxy or any character you recognize. I only own Katrina and whatever plot changes I make.
It was close to night time so we set up a fire pit and we all sat around it, me next to Peter with Ego on his other side as Ego told Peter what happened, "I hired Yondu to pick you up when your mother passed away. But instead of returning you, Yondu kept you. I have no clue as to why."
"Well, I'll tell you why. Because I was a skinny little kid who could squeeze into places adults couldn't. It made it easier for thievin'." Peter explained with some resentment.
"Well, I've been trying to track you down ever since." Ego said.
"I thought Yondu was your father." Drax said out of the blue and we all looked at him like he was insane.
"What?" Peter asked, confused. "We've been together this whole time...and you thought Yondu was my actual blood relative?" Peter asked, amazed.
"You look exactly alike." Drax deadpanned.
"One's blue!" Rocket exclaimed and I couldn't help but laugh a little.
"No, he's not my father! Yondu was the guy who abducted me, kicked the crap out of me so I could learn to fight, and kept me in terror by threatening to eat me." Peter explained and I frowned at the idea. Most of that was true but I really don't think Yondu would have let anyone eat Peter.
"Eat you?" Ego asked in disbelief.
"Yeah." Peter answered.
"Oh, that son of a bitch." Ego said while shaking his head.
"How'd you locate us now?" Gamora asked, skeptical. Which I was completely on her side. There was something about this man that I didn't trust.
"Well, even where I reside, out past the edge of what's known...we've heard tales about the man they call Star-Lord. What say we head out there right now? Your associates are welcome, even that triangle-faced monkey there." Ego explained as Rocket felt his face. "I promise you, it's unlike any other place you've ever seen. And there...I can explain your very special heritage." He motioned to Peter. "Finally get to be...the father I've always wanted to be. Excuse me. I've gotta take a whiz." Ego finished as he left to head to the woods.
Peter and I looked each other and I could see the distrust in his eyes. "I'm not buying it." I grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
"Let's go take a walk." I suggested. Peter and I got up and headed into the woods away from the group. We held hands as we walked in silence.
After a while, Peter broke the silence in frustration, "Give me a break! After all this time, you're gonna show up, and all of a sudden you wanna be my dad?" He paced in frustration
"I hear you, Pete." I said.
"And by the way, this could be a trap. The Kree purists, the Ravagers...they all want us dead." Peter went on and I sighed.
"I know, but..." I tried to say.
"But what?" Peter asked, interrupting me once more.
"What if he is your father?" I asked, trying to get my question out before he interrupted me again. "Don't get me wrong, I don't trust him either and I'm pretty sure nobody else does, but just maybe, he is telling you the truth. Don't you deserve to know the truth?" I asked, grabbing his hands.
"But what if he is evil and it's just a trap?" Peter asked, unsure. I sighed.
"If he is evil, we'll just kill him and end it. Move on with our lives. No matter what happens, I'll still stay by your side." I explained. Peter just leant his forehead against mine and sighed.
"What would I do without you?" Peter asked and I smiled.
"I'm sure you would get by." I joked. Peter leant down and kissed me and I responded happily.
After spending a few more minutes to ourselves, we headed back to the others and Peter told him his decision about the plan.
"You're leaving me with that fox?" Nebula asked enraged as we all grabbed our stuff, mainly just what we needed.
"He's not a fox." Gamora replied to Nebula. "Shoot her if she does anything suspicious. Or if you feel like it." She said to Rocket.
"Okay." Rocket answered. I grabbed my bag and saw the sad look on Groot's face. I swear, this little guy was gonna kill me with his cuteness. I walked over and knelt in front of him. "It'll just be for a couple of days. We'll be back before Rocket's finished with the ship, okay?" I explained while patting his head. Groot just gave me a small smile and waved. I smiled and kissed him on the head before standing up and walking next to Peter.
"What if the Sovereign come?" Drax asked Peter.
"There's no way for them to know we're here. Let's go." Peter said as he grabbed my hand and we began walking.
"I'm uncertain about parting ways." Drax said unsure. I didn't blame him, something wasn't right about any of this but there was nothing we could do at the moment.
"God, you're like an old woman." Peter said, slightly annoyed with Drax.
"Because I'm wise?" Drax asked. I just giggled a little bit while Gamora asked Drax, "Why do you have so much luggage?"
"I don't want Groot playing with my things." Drax answered.
Peter and I walked by Rocket and Rocket said, "I hope Daddy isn't as big of a dick as you, orphan boy." Peter and I stopped and Peter glared at Rocket and I sighed.
"What is your goal here? To get everybody to hate you? Because it's working." Peter shot as he went on. I looked at Rocket and he just shrugged and turned his back to me. I groaned and went on. These two needed to grow up because one day it's gonna get one of them killed.
I quickly walked at the same pace as Peter. "You and Rocket seriously need to sit down and talk this shit out because it's gonna get one if not both of you killed one day." I explained.
"Tell that to him. He's the one being a dick to everyone." Peter said annoyed.
"True but it's worse with you two." I said as we walked towards Ego's ship. Peter remained silent and just wrapped his arm around me as we boarded onto Ego's ship and took off. I decided to tag along with Gamora and look around the ship while Peter just watched Ego and thinking. This whole situation still has me worried though.
"Are you okay?" Gamora asked, looking at me with concern.
"I don't know." I answered honestly. "It's just this whole situation. It's too convenient." I admitted.
"Everything will work out. If things go bad, we'll deal with it as we always do. As a team." Gamora explained. I nodded and smiled a little. I'm glad to have her as a best friend. Gamora and I walked back to Peter, Drax, and Mantis who were sitting around a lounge area. I took my seat next to Peter, beside Mantis.
"Hey, can I ask you a personal question?" Peter asked Mantis and I looked at him intrigued.
Mantis gave a surprised look and said, "No...No one has ever asked me a personal question." I honestly felt sorry for her. Did Ego not give her any attention?
"Your antennas. What are they for?" Peter asked.
"Their purpose?" Mantis asked.
"Yes." Drax answered. "Quill and I have a bet." I looked at Peter with a questionable look and Peter sighed.
"Dude, you're not supposed to say that..." Peter said embarrassed. I raised an eyebrow but placed my hand on his. I wasn't mad, just couldn't believe how childish they could be. Oh wait, I can believe it.
"I say," Drax continued. "If you are about to go through a doorway that is too low, your antennae will feel this, and keep you from being decapitated." He finished. Oh good lord, that is not how antennas work.
"Right, and if it's anything other than specifically not being decapitated by a doorway, I win." Peter said, smirking at Drax. Yeah, I knew Peter was gonna win this one.
"They are not for feeling doorways!" Mantis exclaimed. Drax groaned and Peter laughed. I couldn't help but roll my eyes and laugh at the situation. "I think they have something to do with my empathic abilities."
"What are those?" Gamora asked.
"If I touch someone, I can feel their feelings." Mantis answered.
"You read minds?" Peter asked surprised.
"No. Telepaths know thoughts. Empaths feel feelings." Mantis explained and she looked at me. "May I?" She asked.
"Uh, sure." I said. Mantis placed her hand on my forehead and I watched as her antennae's lit up and I closed my eyes.
"You feel...contentment, love, sexual love." Mantis said and I blushed. "For him." She said, pointing at Peter and he blushed as well. Just because everyone knew we were together, doesn't mean they had to know all the details. Jeez... Then Drax began laughing at us.
"She just told everyone your deepest, darkest secret!" Drax laughed and we both looked at him like he was insane.
"How is it a secret? Kat and I have been dating for years!" Peter exclaimed.
Drax just continued laughing and looked at Mantis and said, "Do me! Do me!" I just rolled my eyes at his antics. Mantis reached over and she started laughing along with Drax.
"I have never felt such humor!" Mantis said laughing and pointing at us.
"So unbelievably uncool." Peter mumbled and I laughed a little and kissed him on the cheek. Mantis then got up and went to touch Gamora, but Gamora stopped her in her tracks, grabbing her wrist.
"Touch me, and the only thing you're gonna feel is a broken jaw." Gamora threatened. Mantis froze, eyes wide in fear at the threat, and no doubt, Gamora would do it.
"I can...also alter emotions to some extant." Mantis said nervously.
"Yeah, like what?" Peter asked.
"If I touch someone who is sad, I can ease them into contentment for a short while. I can make a stubborn person compliant. But I mostly use it to help my master sleep. He lies awake at night, thinking about his project." Mantis explained, motioning to Ego who was still sound asleep.
"Do one of those on me!" Drax said excitedly. Mantis placed her hand on Drax's forehead and muttered the word, "sleep", and then Drax fell asleep instantly and began snoring.
"Well, at least the trip will be more quiet." I said jokingly while shaking my head and smiling. Peter chuckled as he pulled me close to him and I rested my head on his chest.
