Not all of Jack's encounters were with spirits or animals, although many of them at least began that way.

He landed in the center of the city, watching the joyful citizens mill about their lives as they prepared for their yearly festival. He had seen its fruits before, when the lanterns were released into the sky; the winter spirit found great fun in weaving through them. This time, he wanted to start the journey from the ground and work his way upwards with the floating lights.

He figured going before the celebration started would be a good idea, since he always enjoyed seeing how the locals went about their lives. And hey, maybe he'd get lucky and someone would be able to see him.

Hovering above the city, Jack decided that the castle's entrance balcony would be a good place to start; he could sit on the railing and watch without people walking through him.

He wasn't expecting a horse to assault him as he sat.

"What the hell?! Get off me!" Jack shouted as he tried to wriggle out of its grasp, but the horse's grip on his sweater hood with its teeth was too tight. It dragged him off the railing and back a few feet before dropping him roughly and neighing loudly.

"What was that for?!"

The white horse neighed lowly and stamped his hoof against the ground. Jack wasn't stupid, he had the good sense to crawl backwards and stand up.

"Maximus! Is everything al- what is going on here?!"

Jack and Maximus both froze and turned towards their right to find a very vexed, very pretty, and veryyyyy long braided-haired blonde who had crossed her arms and was tapping her foot impatiently. Jack certainly didn't want to cross her, and a shared look with the white horse showed that he agreed. The two dropped the staff and took on innocent looks.

"Both of you, you should be ashamed of yourselves, acting like this on my birthday!"

Wait, birthday? Wait, both of us? Wait, what?!

"Well don't just stand there; someone better start explaining!"

Jack's mouth fell open, and it took Maximus to nudge him before he refocused. "How can you see me?!"

The girl's eyebrow raised mockingly. "Because you're a person?"

"No I'm not- that's not the point!"

"Then what is?"

"The fact you can see me! I'm Jack Frost," he added as an afterthought, thinking it might help with his reaction.

The blonde's eyebrows furrowed in recognition of the name, but she still crossed her arms. "Prove it."

Jack quickly bent down, grabbed his staff, and sent out a shower of snowflakes above their heads. He grinned, expecting to see an awed expression on her face. He was instead met with a raised eyebrow.

"Please; my cousin Elsa can do better than that in her sleep."

"What can I do in my sleep, Rapunzel?" The three of them turned to see a tall, platinum blonde in a light purple dress walk out from around the corner. She held herself like one would expect royalty to: back straight, head held high, shoulders pulled back. Her cerulean gaze drifted from the blonde (who he now knew to be Rapunzel) before it fell on his general area. "Who is this?"

Jack glared at Maximus as the horse huffed and nudged him again. "She didn't mean me?"

"Well, I wasn't expecting the horse to respond. No offense, Maximus," the newcomer stated rather dryly.

Jack could feel his brain stop functioning. She could see him too?! "I already told Punzie here that I'm Jack Frost, but she didn't seem to believe me."

"Don't call me that!" Rapunzel snapped, leaning back into a defensive stance and reaching to untie her braid. Elsa merely sighed at their bickering.

"The two of you are acting worse than Anna and Kristoff," she muttered, before suddenly lashing out a hand towards Jack and sending a bolt of ice at him. He shouted in shock, deflecting it over the railing with his staff and shooting his own snowy blast at it to ensure it wouldn't land on anyone below. "Well, he's probably Jack Frost," the girl concluded with a chuckle.

Rapunzel frowned, relaxing her stance slightly to Jack's relief. "If he's Jack Frost, why can we all see him?"

Jack glanced at Maximus as if he held an answer, but the horse let out a chuff and shook its head. "Your guess is as good as mine?"

Elsa was looking at him curiously, and he figured she must have an idea. "Come inside for a second, please." She turned and begin to walk off through a set of stained glass doors with Jack and Rapunzel following. Maximus huffed and trotted off on his own.

"It's my house, how come you get to invite him in?" Rapunzel grumbled with amusement. Her house?!

"Queen!" Elsa declared with faux superiority, pointing at herself. Queen?!

"Wait, you're a queen?" Jack asked in surprise.

"Of Arendelle," Elsa supplied for him. "Rapunzel is the Lost Princess of Corona. And that," she gestured over to a couple sitting on the steps beneath the thrones with a book, "is the princess of Arendelle and the to-be prince of Corona. Anna! Eugene!" Rapunzel waved as Elsa called their names.

The man looked up, confusion crossing his face almost immediately. "Hey, ladies. Who's your friend?"

The ginger-haired girl appeared even more confused than him after he said that. "Eugene, what are you talking about?"

Elsa tilted her head to one side and laced her fingers together. "That answers that question."

"What?" All four of them asked at the same time, wanting her to elaborate.

"We can see Jack because of our powers," she explained. "I have winter powers; you have the sun's power, Rapunzel."

"But that doesn't explain Eugene…" her cousin began.

"Didn't you say your tear brought him back to life?" Elsa asked.

Jack figured that if his heart was really keeping him alive, he would've died from a heart attack by now. "Back to life?!"

Rapunzel ignored him while Elsa at least shot him a sympathetic glance. "So my hair's magic is still in him…"

"Would one of you please explain what is going on?!" Jack shouted in frustration, raising his hands to grip his hair and accidentally sending out a gust of cold air as he did so. While Rapunzel and Eugene did not seem amused, Elsa just rolled her eyes and Anna's eyes widened in shock.

"Was that… your friend?" She asked breathlessly, laughing in delight when Elsa nodded in confirmation.

Rapunzel finally turned back to Jack. "Long story short: my hair is magical and glows and can heal people when I sing because of a drop of sun that became a flower, and Elsa's mother was blessed by winter sprites and she can create ice and snow and living snow creatures too!"

If Jack wasn't a spirit, he would think he was dreaming. "Um, okay. Wow," he offered lamely as a response.

Eugene good-naturedly pat him on the back. "That was just about my reaction too."
