After drilling for miles, the Troop came out of the ground for a break.
"Is it almost nighttime already?" Kirby asked, looking up at the sky turning red.
"We have been drilling for almost a day since the behemoths," Cadence said.
"Let's see if we can find some monsters before we set up camp for the night," Jake said.
"Okay," Zeon said. "But use the scent shower before we go."
After Jake, Hayley, and Kirby used the shower, Kirby grabbed his camera and they set off for monster finding.
Neither of them noticed but four small, human-like creatures with what looked like a combination of bat wings and dragonfly wings on their backs came out of the ground.
The small monsters phased through the vehicle door and started trashing the place.
They noticed the vehicles keys that Zeon left in, and they began to cackle.
"Look at all those kaiju," Kirby said, taking some photos.
The kaiju were in a pack in a crater with clear crystals.
Some of them were gobbling down monster bones, some were resting, while others were battling each other with their eyestalks.
"Kaiju are Monster 613," Zeon said. "And I'm not sure you already know this, but kaiju is often what the humans of Japan call monsters. These monsters were first discovered and the very first to be discovered in Japan, so that's why they're called kaiju."
"Nice! Fun history fact," Jake said.
Just then, the vehicle alarm went off, so they rushed back to see what was going on.
They then saw the little monsters phasing out of the vehicle.
"Monster 067, Pixies," Zeon said. "They are rotten little tricksters always causing trouble."
"One of them has the keys," Cadence pointed to the one in the middle.
"Get them!" Jake shouted.
The pixies zipped off in a shimmer of light.
"We're never going to find them now," Hayley said.
"Yes, we will. Pixies may be destructive, but they aren't very bright," Zeon said, pointing towards the ground.
There was a trail of white powder leading away to where the pixies went. "One of them was holding a bag of chalk powder for some reason; it just didn't realize that it must've been holding the bag upside down."
"Why do you have a bag of chalk powder?" Hayley asked.
"To analyze claw marks created by different monsters," Zeon said. "But anyway, let's follow them."
They followed the trail of powder all the way past a mountain range, but the trail ended with the bag on the ground, torn apart, and with powder spread all over the ground like snow.
"Did the pixies do this?" Jake asked.
"No, pixies aren't able to make damage like this; it must've been from something else," Zeon said.
Strange powder tracks lead away from the powder. Zeon pulled out a device to see what made those tracks. "Oh no! This is the work of Monster 146, Basilisks."
"They must've taken the key's too," Cadence said. "They sometimes like to collect shiny things as long as they can't see their reflection in it."
"How do we get close to the basilisks without turning to stone from their gaze?" Kirby asked.
"Luckily, I came prepared," Zeon said, pulling out and opening a case to reveal five black goggles. "These goggles will prevent any of us from turning to stone."
After putting on the goggles, they made their way down the mountain range where the tracks were leading.
They reached a crater with small shallow caves in the shape of honeycombs. From their vantage point, they saw a huge colony of basilisks.
"That's a lot of basilisks," Jake said as they hid behind a boulder.
"Hey, look," Hayley said, pointing towards what looked like the pixies, but they were all stone.
A couple of basilisks were eating away at them.
"Do basilisks really eat stonified monsters?" Jake asked Zeon.
"Yes, they do," Zeon said. "They gain nutrients from minerals produced in the stone when a monster is transformed."
"The basilisks are even looking at each other, but they don't turn to stone," Jake said.
"Because like all monsters that turn you to stone with a single glance, the basilisk emits a type of electromagnetic eye beam that corrode your brain and causes all of your cells to petrify into a stone-like element. If a basilisk looks at another basilisk eye to eye, the beams will cancel each other out," Zeon explained. "But the eye beams of a basilisk are weaker than the beams of other monsters that turn you to stone, so if a basilisk looks at its own reflection, the beams will bounce right back at it."
"I made the goggles we're wearing out of a special glass material that can keep the beams from making contact with our eyes."
"So, how can a basilisk drink without having to look at its own reflection?" Kirby asked as he took some photos.
"You can see that those basilisks are drinking from that small waterfall so that they won't turn to stone from their own reflection in the water," Zeon said. "And if they need to drink from any body of water without a waterfall, they're smart enough to keep their eyes shut while drinking, but they can go for seven days without having to drink."
"Look over there," Cadence said, pointing to one of the pixies on top of the stone pile. "That stone pixie has the keys in its hand."
"How are we going to get to them?" Jake asked. "There are just too many of these basilisks."
"I'll quickly sneak past them and grab the keys before they can see me," Cadence said.
"Just exercise caution," Hayley said.
"Caution is my middle name," Cadence assured her.
Cadence crept a few wide steps past the boulders. She did a front flip, a somersault, and front roll to where the keys were.
Before she could grab the keys, a basilisk stepped in front of her.
"Hello," she said nervously.
The basilisk replied with a roar which grabbed the attention of the other basilisks.
Cadence then transformed into a blood thrasher, knocked the basilisk out of the way, and grabbed the keys.
The other basilisks piled onto her, but she got back up and tossed them all away.
Unfortunately, her goggles fell off, so one of the basilisks made its move.
It gazed at her, and Cadence turned to stone.
"No!" Kirby shouted. The basilisks then turned their heads towards the Troop. "Oops."
Before the basilisks could attack, a thundering roar came from beyond the crater.
Everyone stopped to see what it was; a silhouette of a huge monster appeared in front of the setting sun.
The monster jumped down into the crater.
It had green skin, a long neck, a single green eyestalk, a flat face with a cat nose and sharp teeth. It walked on four legs, had orange fur lining down the sides of its neck and long tail, and spikes sticking out of the fur on its tail.
"Monster 016, a Lomgra," Zeon said. "Another member of the five most."
The lomgra's single green eye then shined a red light which turned most of the basilisks to stone.
It shot out a long tongue and swallowed the stonified basilisks.
The other basilisks scattered and the lomgra shot its red beam at them everywhere like it was playing a hit the target game.
"I heard about the lomgra before, but I didn't think that I would actually see one," Hayley said.
"What even makes this monster part of the five most?" Jake asked Zeon.
"The lomgra is the most powerful of all monsters that turn you to stone," Zeon said. "It doesn't have to look into your eyes to turn you to stone; its eye beam can instantly turn all of your cells to stone even when your back is turned towards it."
"So, what do we do about it?" Kirby asked.
"First, we kill the lomgra," Zeon said. "Second, we destroy the basilisk that turned Cadence to stone so that she can turn back. Last, we escape."
"So, how do we kill this monster?" Jake asked.
"No one has ever killed a lomgra before," Zeon said. "But it's main weak spot is its single eye."
"Great, just where we need to get it," Hayley said sarcastically.
While the lomgra continued to feast on the basilisks that it stonified.
Hayley and Zeon made their way towards its tail.
"So, all you have to do is run up its tail, along its back, then when its eye gets close to you, use your blaster to take out its eye," Zeon said.
"Even though I enjoy challenges," Hayley said. "This one I'm not going to enjoy very much."
Hayley crept closer to the tail without the lomgra noticing her.
It was swishing its tail from side to side which made it harder for Hayley to time it just right.
When the tail was about to be in the middle, Hayley made her move and ran like the wind.
She jumped onto the tail which caused the lomgra to turn its head and spot her.
It tried to stop her with its stone look, but Hayley managed to dodge them all.
The lomgra's eye beams missed Hayley, but they hit its back causing it to slowly turn to stone.
The lomgra lowered its head down towards Hayley.
Before it can hit Hayley with its eye beam, Hayley quickly pulled out her blaster and fired it.
The blast caused its eye to explode with orange goo; the monster bellowed and roared with pain.
The stone then began to corrode the monster much faster, so Hayley quickly ran down its tail.
The monster was then fully turned to stone, and it began to crumble from where its eye once was.
Hayley quickly leapt off the lomgra's tail before it was nothing but rubble.
"You did it," Zeon said.
"Thanks," Hayley said.
"So, I believe that this is the second time you killed one of the five most," Zeon said.
"Yeah," she said. "But International will never believe me even if Kirby took a photo; it's completely fallen apart."
"It's not all about the prize that counts," someone said, walking towards them; it was Cadence.
"You're okay!" Zeon and Hayley said with joy. "How?"
"I just saw a random basilisk, so I blasted it hoping that it was the one that turned Cadence to stone," Jake said as he walked over.
"And was it?" Zeon asked.
"No," Jake said. "But the next one was."
"So, I managed to get a few shots of the lomgra," Kirby said. "But not of you running on its back because we were in the middle of a stampede of basilisks."
"So, are we going to leave or not?" Cadence said, holding the keys.
"So, I guess that we've learned an important lesson here today," Zeon said as they were walking back to the vehicle.
"Yes, and that's don't leave the keys in the vehicle next time," Cadence said. The others began to laugh.
"Yeah, okay, you got me there," Zeon said sheepishly.
