Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Snowy Soulmates. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.
Matias stepped off the boat and pulled up his hood.
"Get the boats unloaded!" One of the soldiers yelled. "We need to move out ASAP!" The soldier added before Matias sighed and started to lead a column of soldiers down the road.
"Sir? One of the soldiers asked as Matias turned to them and hummed. "Why are we out here?" Matias heard from the soldier in question.
"Orders from command, soldier." Matias said before a tank came down the ramp. "Tanks at the front of the convoy! We are headed to Lindbergh Base!" Matias ordered the group and hummed.
He knew that the Battalion would be on a long trek to the base. Vinland had expected their Federation allies to clear a path to the base.
Still? Matias didn't mind trekking through the snow. He knew for a fact that they would end up having to fight sooner or later… And part of him didn't know how harsh the winter would be.
"Sir, how about you ride with us?" Matias heard from a voice to his right as he looked at a truck.
He hummed and sighed before holding his jacket closed. Matias looked over his shoulder at the rest of his men. They would be in for a much longer walk then him, and it would take a while to meet up with the Federation forces.
"No." Matias stated to the soldiers. "I think I will walk for now." Matias added as the soldiers blinked before shrugging and driving off.
"That's the second time I think I've seen you do something so odd, sir." Matias heard and turned to see the soldier from before.
Matias chuckled as the duo continued their walk towards the Federation Base.
"Well, I'm not the most normal officer from Vinland." Matias said before tucking his hands into his pockets. "And this is the second time we seem to have met. I'm glad someone again, however… Not many regular soldiers in this company… You have a name, soldier?" Matias questioned the blond-haired man as they continued their trek through the snow.
Matias took a moment to look at the soldier who had eyes as warm as the Vinland sun. His uniform was only slightly out of place. Matias predicted it was because of the fact that he didn't have time to fully make it regulation.
Then again? Regulations were one thing, but there was still a code that soldiers followed.
"Thomas, Sir." The soldier added with a chuckle. "Thomas Hudom. Sergeant of 5th Platoon." The soldier added as Matias chuckled and looked at the soldier.
"Matias." Matias responded and smiled at Thomas. "Matias Ambrose of 7th Battalion." Matias stated before he hummed and blinked.
"So, do you still not to tell me why we're here, sir?" Thomas asked as the duo continued their trek through the snow.
"Well, as a Colonel of the Vinland Army?" Matias asked Thomas. "I can tell you that our orders are to reinforce the Federation forces. I do not know anything besides what the General has told me… And considering our general is back in his office drinking coffee?" Matias questioned as Thomas chuckled.
"Then I guess we're both kinda screwed, sir." Thomas put in while Matias took a deep breath.
"Screwed isn't the word I would use, Thomas." Matias said while brushing off his officer's coat. "But I see your point. Things are bad, but this will be a lot better then the battles we have to deal with actually fighting on the frontlines." Matias stated as he hummed.
"Something tells me you decided to walk for a good reason." Thomas put in as Matias rubbed at his chin. "I mean, unless you like freezing your ass off, sir." Thomas added to which Matias laughed in the most bemused tone.
"You got a lot of guts." Matias responded and nodded in respect to the soldier. "But your right. I decided to walk to show the men I'm as willing to suffer as they are. Bullets, grenades? Ammo? Their common and nice… But morale? Nothing kills an army faster then a military who doesn't have any hope or care of winning." Matias put in to which Thomas nodded.
Morale was something their army would need in spades. It was one of the few things that was in short supply when it came down to it.
"Really, and here I thought you just wanted to serve with us out of the kindness of your heart." Thomas put in as Matias laughed with sheer amusement.
"That's twice you made me laugh, Sergeant." Matias added before cracking his fingers. "If your lucky? We could power this entire convoy based off your personality." Matias stated and got a chuckle from the sergeant.
Little did either know that the base would bring many surprises to the duo, both interesting… And horrifying.
It would be an interesting experience.
