Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Snowy Soulmates. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.
Matias wondered why there was no soldiers out on the tundra… But he guessed that the empire was busy conserving its strength and waiting for a more opportune time.
Still? It scared him to know that the Empire was not addressing the attack on their lands.
"Who's the commander here?" Matias questioned as he leapt off the tank he was standing on. He wondered if they had any resources to refuel these vehicles.
"And who do I have the pleasure of speaking with?" Matias heard which made him blink and brush off his coat.
The woman was dressed in what he could guess was an Edinburgh army uniform. She adjusted her glasses as Matias folded his hands and walked to the front of the convoy of soldiers.
"Matias," Matias said and pulled down the hood of his coat. "Colonel Matias of the Vineland army." Matias said as he shook his ashy black hair free and looked at the woman.
The woman moved with the grace of someone who was used to commanding respect from others. Matias hummed and blinked before the woman extended her hand.
"Lieutenant Minerva Victor of the Edinburgh army." The woman said which was greeted by Matias extending his hand awkwardly.
"I don't see any trace of the Edinburgh army." Matias pointed out with a raised eyebrow. "I was told we'd be dropping reinforcements off at the main base. Waste of fuel to drive a convoy of military vehicles across the frozen tundra." Matias pointed out.
Minerva pushed her glasses up her nose as another wave of fresh snow started to coat the duo. He wondered what an Edinburgh Lieutenant was doing out in the middle of the tundra.
"Plans changed." Minerva stated as Matias hummed and looked up to see snowflakes falling on his face. "Command sent me to greet reinforcements and escort them to Lindburgh." Minerva added before looking at the dozens of soldiers who were with Matias.
They looked at Matias, awaiting the Colonel's orders as he hummed and gestured to one of the tanks.
"Well, since I'm not from around here?" Matias questioned and then snapped his fingers as one of the troop transports slowly moved up to them. "Your going to have to give us the tour." Matias stated as the APC hissed and opened its doors.
Matias slowly walked around the APC and climbed into the back of it. He gestured to Minerva to climb aboard as he sighed and looked up at the snow.
Matias had no idea how the operations were going. This wasn't an operation that Vinland had wanted a part of. The Federation had called upon their aid and Vinland had sent soldiers to their aid.
Still? He would serve his orders as best he could. His first option to want to do was to protect his men and make sure that the soldiers under his command were protected and safe.
Minerva climbed into the back of the vehicle as Matias hummed and sighed.
"So, you walked miles into the snow to handle greeting us?" Matias questioned as he blinked and looked around the craft interior. "That's…. Something." Matias added after that with a raised eyebrow.
Matias hummed and blinked and tapped his fingers on the door while the APC started to move.
Matias turned his attention to Minerva. Matias wanted to wonder what would happen next.
"Operation Northern Cross is taking a lot of manpower from the Edinburgh Army." Minerva stated to which she got a raised eyebrow.
"Northern cross?" Matias questioned with a smile tugging at his lips. "Seems that's not the only thing Vinland gave to the federation." Matias said before leaning against the wall behind him.
"Hmm." Minerva stated to which Matias rubbed at his chin for a second. Matias sighed for a moment before rubbing at his temples.
Matias spoke up a second later and crossed his arms.
"How bad are things on the frontlines?" Matias questioned while he reclined in his seat. "Vinland didn't tell me anything, so I'm mostly going on information that I get from others." Matias said and clicked his fingers together.
Minerva blinked and looked to the side. She knew Vinland was a very outside factor to the war with the empire. She cleared her throat and looked at the Vinland Colonel.
"Its… Ongoing." Minerva stated to which Matias raised his eyebrow slightly higher and looked to the side. "The empire has us outnumbered massively. And with the long winter coming?" Minerva questioned to which Matias hummed.
"Then this is going to be hell itself." Matias stated and sighed. "I know how bad war is. Hmm…" Matias added and clicked his fingers together.
"Do you know where the base is?" Minerva asked Matias who nodded. "Then I assume you want to talk tactics?" Minerva questioned Matias.
"If the war is that bad?" Matias asked and hummed. "Yeah, I'm not that serious off the battlefield… But if we're marching into a battlefield that we don't know? Yes, I would like to know what we're getting into." Matias stated and looked at the driver.
Minerva nodded; she was glad that someone was willing to be more forward with tactics. It made her more composed.
"I should warn you the empire outnumbers Vinland's forces out here massively." Minerva put in which caused Matias to nod. "Plus, their much better equipped for the winter… I've heard Vinland isn't one for fighting in the winter." Minerva added and pushed her glasses up her face.
"That's true." Matias said while letting out a hum. "We're not the type to throw snowballs…. Still? My orders are to support the Federation… Well, Europa." Matias stated and continued to tap his fingers on his legs.
He knew for a fact that this war would be a lot harder then it seemed. There was plenty of battles that helped prove that this war wasn't going to be easy. All this was going to prove was that more lives would be lost in the conflict.
Minerva said nothing, entirely focused on figuring out what to do next when the war came to its next battle.
Still? She looked at Matias who was busy looking around the hull of the APC. He was probably thinking about the next battle and how best to deploy Vinland's forces.
She wanted to talk about the battle and discuss tactics. She couldn't assume that it would be an easy war. Minerva could only guess how hard the war would be for them.
"So… How did you become a Colonel?" Minerva questioned and got a smile from Matias.
"Well, that's a LONG story…" Matias put in and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
