Okay before ya'll yell at me, I hope to have the next chapter up either this or next week. But I just go this idea in my head and just couldn't not write it.
Soo, before reading:
-There is no certain time period i had in mind while writing.
- There are 3 main factions in this world.
- Humans, Augmented and Machines.
-Humans focus solely on the use of magic, whilst this is not used as of now. They were forced to flee earth after machines decided F that I don't like the way I'm being treated and thus decided to take over.
- Machines are the work of technology advancing ala every bloody science fiction story ever. They function by the use of a core that allows them to move and have sentient thought.
- Augmented are the defendants of those who, whilst not agreeing with the machines, still decided to work with mechanics and even making bionic phrostetics. They can use both magic and specific abilities in the case of enhancement due to needing a machine core to have their prosthetics actually working. This requires more energy to balance out magic and machine abilities. They were exiled and thus were left on the earth to fight the machines.
- Augmented currently are hiding in a makeshift base inside a cavern, after a Machine squad raided their last encampment.
- augmented will only be enhanced with explicit concent and above age of concent unless it's an emergency.
- Lloyd, Nya, Kai and Skylor (even If she doesn't appear now.) Are on the human side.
- Calli, Cole, Jay, Zane and Pixal (Zane and pix are Mentioned.) are on the augmented side.
Augmentations, weapons and abilities.
- Lloyd: Lieutenant, Laser-gun, light levitation magic that tends to get out of hand if he's emotional.
- Kai: broadsword and lasergun. Obvious fire magic.
- Nya: Spear and dagger. Obvious water magic.
- Skylor: Not a soldier but an informant or contact, Transfiguration.
- Calli: Electrified Longsword, Force-field core ability. Core located in the left eye socket. Prosthetics on the left arm from the shoulder to hand (Wintersoldier style), right underarm and hand, right feet and left lower leg, Divination.
- Cole: Dagger and fists. Magnetism core ability. Core located on the middle of the chest. Prosthetics on the left side of the chin going down to the neck and chest, left lower arm and left feet Obvious nature magic.
- Jay: Mechanic/doctor. Controlling electric flows, core ability. Core located on back of his right hand. Only his back and spine are reinforced otherwise human Air magic
- Zane: Scout leader. Bows and arrow, Shockwaves core ability. Core located on the back of the right shoulder. Mostly covered apart from parts of the face and most organs. Transfiguration, but unable to use,
- Pixal: Sai's and spears. Hacking core ability. Core located on the left side of the hips. Mostly covered apart from left arm and right shoulder. Teleportation. Only short distance.
- Pix and Zane are together, as are Kai and Sky and Calli and Cole.
It still felt strange to him, walking around in the halls of who were always told were just as much an enemy of humanity as the machines were. But as he looked around him, Lloyd could only see the fear and uncertainty, as well as the happiness he could only describe as human. The diversity in their ranks, going from completely human to all kinds of augmentation and even a few machines.
A few kids ran past him, happily laughing as they ran away from an elderly woman who was shouting for them to come back. The happy sounds echoing trough the caves they were forced into, completely ignoring the immense tense situation.
As he walked back to the further most chamber, trying to find their leader, he realized that he wasn't the only one who wasn't sure about the current predicament, but he didn't blame them one bit. Whilst his government taught them all to attack the augmented on sight, they were never an enemy. The humans, him and his squadron, on the other hand were an actual threat, and they'd taken on a huge risk taking in the only three survivors.
'You're thinking again.' The clear monotone voice snapped Lloyd out of it. He'd reached his destination without realizing.
Calliope gave him a scrutinizing look, the real eye seeming to look into his soul. Her second in command, who he had yet to learn the name of, on the other hand slowly put a hand on the handle of his dagger, as if his leader wasn't strong enough to kill him on her own if there was a need for it.
'Stand down, Cole' The tall man gave her a look which she reciprocated with one of her own, albeit with the corners of her mouth pulled up in an amused smirk. With reluctance, he dropped his hold on the weapon, arm whirring with the motions. 'Could you check if Jay managed to establish contact with the Zane and Pix, to see where they are?' The man, Cole, reluctantly nodded, giving the female a squeeze on her shoulder before leaving the room.
'I'm sorry about him, he's a bit overprotective I'm afraid.' The woman's expressions softened into a fond look, one matching her tone, that took him by surprise, though it didn't last long. 'How are your solders, Lieutenant?'
Lloyd wasted no time with the answer. 'Both of them will recover, the only thing permanently damaged is both of their prides.'
Once again the corners of the redhead's mouth quirked upwards. 'And yourself?'
'Sore, but I'll survive another day.'
Calliope nodded in response. 'That's good to hear. I'm suspecting you will be leaving for your base quickly then.' She went to stand behind the crate that functioned as make-shift desk. 'However, I hope you realize we can't let you make contact whilst you are close by. I can't risk the lives of my people than I already have.' Her expression told Lloyd that she was dead serious about her treat, and had no problem cutting him down where he stood.
The solder nodded. 'I understand.'
The young woman nodded. 'Good, now go and get some rest, you'll need it.'
'So much for getting some rest.' Lloyd grumbled to himself as he lifted himself of the cot that had been assigned his. Some kind of shrill makeshift alarm blearing in the distance. Next to him, Nya and Kai had already gotten up. Their wounds were mostly healed, but they had yet to regain the most of their energy.
Lloyd was about to give them the order to stay put, when the door opened and an augmented, from what he could tell, soldier? No, mechanic or medic, looking by his outfit, stepped in the room, running a hand trough his auburn hair, his core visible on the back of his hand.
'We're evacuating, I've been ordered to get you guys out of here with the rest of the people.'
The phrasing didn't escape the blond lieutenant. 'What about the captain?'
The man, Jay according to his name tag, pursed his lips with annoyance. 'She and Cole decided to take on the upcoming horde by themselves to buy us time so our scouts can reach the civilians, and take us to the second- Hey! Where're you going.' Jay stopped mid-explanation as the three soldiers stalked past him. Lloyd to find the Captain and the other two following suit.
It didn't take long to find the young woman. She was walking around in the armory with precise and somewhat forced self assurance. Adjusting the strap of her belt and securing her long-sword in it's hilt. She noticed them coming in before she even turned around.
'And here I thought I told Jay to lead the three of you out of here.' She mused, voice even but stern.
'He did.' Kai noted airily as the redhead turned around with a daring look.
'We want to help.' Lloyd tried to defuse the situation, only to have her now focus in on him.
'And as much as i appreciate that,' Calliope said, moving over to where they stood and grabbing a dagger from the table as she went. 'You are still injured and I'd like to keep the casualties to a minimum.' There was a minute of silence as she choose her next words carefully. 'And with the scouts out and the recent... incident, we have no line of defense for our civilians. So don't get me wrong, but if me and Cole won hold out before the scouts can reach you, if need be I hope i can count on you to keep my people safe.' This was a huge gamble on her part, because despite them saving the soldiers, they were still the enemy. But as of now, she had no choice but to trust them.
The silence in the room got interrupted by the door swinging open, revealing Cole, also changed.
'Any word from Zane or Pix?' She asked, handing him the dagger she'd picked up. The man shook his head as he put the weapon in it's holster. 'Just a message from two hours ago, stating they'd be back in two and a half hours.'
'That gives us half an hour to hold them off.' She nodded and turned back to the trio. 'Please go and find Jay, we have about 5 minuted before they arrive.'
Lloyd pursed his lips but nodded anyway. 'Good luck Captain.'
'You as well Lieutenant.' She cast one more look his way, staring him down. 'Don't let me down.'
Calli sighed as she noticed the mass of Machines shambling towards them, Messes of different limbs and machinery that would give them a slight Eldridge vibe. Eyes burning red as she knew her left eye glowed purple. Just 30 minutes they needed to hold them off, A short time respectively, but one that would feel like eons once the fight would begin. She felt Cole hooking his pinky into hers, warmth of his skin mixing with the coolness of metal. She knew what this was, a silent promise he would not leave her side. Finally, she turned her head to look at him and give a smile.
' We'll be okay, we have to be.'
