Chapter 18 – A Slow & Silent Recovery
The injury on my neck was worse than I thought. That larynx part Chéry-senpai was talking about was completely shattered. And I had to go through multiple surgeries to get it restored.
As a result, my voice is gone. The doctors explained that the larynx is basically my voice box. And until it heals (which depends on the injury. But in my case, it's 3 months), I can't talk. Otherwise, the work done during the surgery would be undone. And the cycle would start back up again.
Because of the injury, I've been allowed to stay home until my throat fully heals. But to be honest, though…I don't think I want to go back to school. The fact that Kuuko actually attends that school…and that she's the infamous Literature Club President that's been bullying the mostly-lesbian student body to the point where everyone fears and hates her…the absolute fear and trauma that tormented me since grade school was circling my sensitive shattered mind and had no chance of leaving.
I truly thought I was doing good in improving my life. But apparently…life doesn't want me to be happy. As I am destined to be miserable mentally tortured.
The true meaning of my melancholy.
*KNOCK* *KNOCK* *KNOCK*
"Hey…Kyouko…are you awake?"
That voice…it's Rukia…
"Kyouko, I know you can't talk but I know you can hear me. It's been three days since you were discharged from the hospital and you haven't eaten a single meal."
I'm too depressed to eat…
"Kyouko, I know you can hear me! Open this door right now! Kyouko!"
Go away, Rukia! You may have gotten me out of this room before, but I'm not making the same mistake this time! Leave me here to rot in my own misery and tormented memories.
"Kyouko-chan…please open the door."
Th-That voice…I-Ikumi-san?!
"We're worried about you, Kyouko-san."
"Please open the door, Kyouko-chan."
S-Sara-san and Momo-san, too?!
"Hey, fair warning, Kyouko. If you don't open this door, I will not hesitate to kick it down. And you, of all people, know my brute strength."
E-Even Chinatsu-san is here?!
"If you kick this door down, I will kick your ass, you hear me?!"
"Why wait for the door?! You can show me what you got right now and I'll pummel your rich elegant ass nice and clean!"
"Wh-Why you damn little…"
"Can't you two just not fight for one fucking day?!" I was now hearing Tsu's voice.
"She fucking started it!" Both girls replied. Making Tsu sigh extremely hard.
"This is every day, you say?" I then heard Chéry-senpai's voice.
"Unfortunately...I always have to stop them from beating on each other. It's such a pain."
"Why stop them, though?" Now it was Ohmuro-san's voice that I was hearing. "Wouldn't it be cool to see them go at it Mortal Kombat style?"
"As if!"
"You are one messed up girl, you know that?" And lastly, I heard Sugiura-san. I was shocked to hear that even she had come here. Never did I think that I would have so many people worried about me. To the point where they came all the way here just to check up on me.
It…It made me a little happy.
"Kyouko…please. Open the door." I heard Rukia say.
…
…
…
I eventually started unlocking the door to my bedroom. And slowly opened it to see everyone standing on the other side. Greeting them all with a simple wave.
"Kyouko-chan!" Ikumi-san was the first to greet me. Wrapping herself around me in a happy-filled hug. It felt…really nice.
…
But it did hurt. A lot.
"H-Hey, Morino-san. Kyouko's…" Rukia said.
"Huh?" Ikumi-san then looked at me and saw the tears run down my face. "O-Oh, no! K-Kyouko-chan!"
"Your neck still hurts, doesn't it?" Rukia asked me. To which, I replied with a small and simple nod.
"S-Sorry, Kyouko-chan."
"So, you really can't talk for three months?" Chinatsu-chan asked. "Damn…what did that bitch do to you?"
"The way she was holding you…it looked like she had the intent to kill you." Sara-san said.
"Hey, what's the story with this Kuuko girl, anyway?" Sugiura-san asked Rukia and Tsu. "Why does she hate lesbians and loves tormenting Toshinio-san?"
Both girls went silent on us. Since they've been with me since we were little kids, they know the reason behind Kuuko's evil personality. And how it affected me in one of the worst ways anyone could ever imagine.
"F-Fine. We'll tell you." Rukia said.
"But fair warning." Tsu added. "What you're about to hear will either tear you up inside or fill you up with so much rage you'll lose control of it."
"Is it truly that bad?" Chéry-senpai asked.
"Yes. It truly is." Both girls replied.
I'll need to mentally prepared for what's about to be said…
Author's Note: The aftermath of Kuuko's return has left Kyouko on mute for three months as her throat recovers. And with everyone there for her…giving all the support she could ever need…the ultimate secret is about to be revealed: How Kuuko Shiranui became what she is today.
This was just a small update due to this story not being updated in over a month. I actually want to put more focus on Himawari and the Dark Sapphire. So, this story will be on break for a while.
Thanks for reading. Later.
