"Mom, I need your help." Said Quinn and Santana's son arriving in the kitchen where Santana was cooking.
A few years after getting married, the two women had a son, Adrian. And far too quickly according to the married couple, the little boy reached adolescence. Today he is fourteen and as Quinn noticed, he has a little crush on a classmate.
She told Santana who asked her how she knew. Her wife therefore replied that their son was her spitting image, and that if she had noticed the first time that Santana had a crush on her, she could also notice it for her son. To which Santana blushed and looked away.
"What is it?" Asked Santana, turning around to look at her son and she stopped what she was doing.
"I need dating advice. How do you make someone fall in love with you?" He asked, blushing like Santana.
Even though Santana was very proud that her son trusted her enough to come and to ask her for advice, Santana did not have the answer to this question.
"To be honest, it's not because I made your mother fell in love with me that I know how I did it." And that was true. Still to this day she wonders how she got Quinn.
"But are you sure you don't have a tip?" He asked as he sat down on the counter.
"Okay. Do you know how they all say that you just have to be yourself?" He nodded eagerly. "Well don't do that." She laughed at her own joke while her son looked at her horrified.
"Mom! Please! This is serious right now!" He cried out and Santana stopped laughing and looked at her son who was frowning. When he does that, he is the spitting image of Quinn.
"Okay, okay sorry. If you want my best advice, don't do anything."
"I'm not sure I understand." He said thoughtfully.
Quinn watching the scene decided that it was time to make her presence known. "What your mother means is that the only way to make someone fall in love with you is to be yourself. Only then will someone really love you." Quinn said, kissing her son's forehead.
"So, you are telling me that Mami was herself and you still fell in love with her? How is that possible?" Adrian teased his mother who smacked the back of his head.
"Smart ass." Grumbled the Latina while Quinn laughed.
"Yes, she was." Said the blonde mom, throwing a loving smile to her wife who blushed a little. Whoever said that Latin people don't blush was lying. "Which is why I am sure that by being yourself, Laura will love you." Quinn finished.
Adrian gasped and looked at his other mom. "How do you know that I am talking about her?"
"A mother knows that kind of things."
"The point is, don't change yourself for someone. If they do not love you for what you are, then they do not deserve you. It's their loss. You are amazing mijo, if Laura have eyes, she will see that." Winked Santana.
"But what if she does not have eyes?" He asked a little bit worried.
"Then you will have to move on. There are many fish in the sea. You can't force your love on her. If she is not ready to accept it, then you will find someone else who can." Santana said.
"And if Mom was not ready to accept your love, would you have moved on?"
Santana seemed to think about it for a few seconds while her wife, really wanting to know the answer, looked at her. "To be really honest, I don't think so. The moment I saw Q, I knew that she was it for me and that from this moment on, no else would do."
"You just knew it?" He asked.
"I just knew it." Santana nodded, looking in the eyes of her wife. They stared at each other for a few seconds, saying things that they could not say in front of their son before looking at him again.
"I don't think I feel it with Laura." He said disappointed.
"And it's okay. You are still young. Your mother and I met when we were twenty-one."
"That was a long ass time ago." He joked.
"Language. Do not make me put you in time out." Joked back Quinn. "Really. You don't have to meet the right person directly. You have the right to love without asking yourself this kind of question. Just always be honest with how you're feeling deep inside."
The next morning Quinn walks past her son's room while she is putting on her earrings. She casually peeks inside and turns back when she sees him, stills in his pajamas, with things all over the floor. She leans on the side of the door and stares at him for a few seconds more as he grumbles, putting other things on the floor.
He looks like Santana when he does this.
"Do you need help?" She asks, startling him. He turns to look at his mother and nods. "You decided to ask her to go out with you today and so you don't know what to put on, do you?"
"How did you know?"
"It might surprise you, but I'm your mother. I know you like I made you." She said sarcastically, winking at him, and he laughed. "Seriously, I carried you for nine months, what mother would I be if I did not know you?" Continued Quinn, putting her hand in his hair to tame it a little bit.
He smiled at her thanking her silently. "I heard that she likes blue."
"Then, something blue it is." She turns around to his closet and begins to search for a particular shirt. "Laura, this is the one in your theater club, right."
"Yeah. There is two Laura though. She is the blonde one."
She chuckled. "Just like his mother." She whispered under her breath. "And did you ever talk to her?" She asked finding the shirt she wanted and giving it to him so he could put it on.
"Yes, sometimes, she is the niece of my soccer coach."
"Ouhh, courageous." Joked Quinn.
He chuckled but continued to speak. "So she is always on the bench when we train. And she always smiles at me when I look at her. But I feel like the smile she gives me is different from the one she gives the others."
"Then, maybe she has a crush on you too." Said his mother, giving him some pants.
"You think?"
"Yes, of course. She would be an idiot not too."
"You say that because you are my mother."
"Maybe, yes. But because I am your mother, I know better than anyone that anyone would be lucky to have you." She paused and put her hand on his cheek, and he leans on it. "I am."
"Guys! Come on, we are going to be late!" Yelled Santana from the kitchen downstairs.
"We're coming!" Said back Adrian. "Thank you, Mommy." He said before hugging her.
She hugged him back and kissed the top of his head before putting her cheek on it. When they leaned back, he went to get out of his room, but Quinn called him back. "Baby, I think you forgot something."
He turned around and looked questioningly at her before understanding what she meant. "I don't really have the time today to get back to your school because your teacher called me because you forgot to put on your pants." She laughed and left to get downstairs.
"Everything's okay?" Asked Santana handing her her coffee.
Quinn kissed her wife to thank her. "Everything is good. We made a great kid."
Santana put her arm around the blonde and they both watched Adrian sitting down and beginning to eat his breakfast. "Yes, we did." A few minutes later, they needed to leave. "Off we go?"
And the three of them left and got in the car. Quinn and Santana don't work far from each other, so when their schedules are the same, they prefer to go together. And whatever happens, they manage to get Adrian to school every day.
According to him, his friends take the bus every morning because they are ashamed to be accompanied by their parents. They were then a little worried and asked him that if he preferred that, they would stop doing it, but he told them that he loved it.
Quinn and Santana don't complain for sure.
They all really like how close they are.
After ten minutes of chatting and singing along to the music on the radio, Santana pulled up in front of their son's school.
Quinn turned to Adrian and the two of them nodded at each other. He then leaned in to kiss Quinn and then Santana and he got out of the car. He walked a little bit and greeted his friends before a group of girls passed and Adrian became all red but still waved at one of the girls.
"Let me guess, it's the blonde one." Santana said as they both watched the interaction. Quinn acquiesced and Santana laughed before restarting the car. "He really is my son. Just like me, we have a thing for blondes." She said and kissed Quinn who laughed, before reversing the car.
The following weeks, the two women accompanied their son a few times to go get an ice cream with Laura, they accompanied them to the movies or other things like that. However, they were a few rows behind during the movie anyway, to give Adrian some space but he was still too young according to them to leave him totally alone.
Nothing had happened yet, but both mothers had a feeling something was about to happen to his game tonight.
It was his first real game against another team tonight and the whole family was excited. There were Santana's parents, and Quinn's mother next to the couple. Apart from a few incidents where Quinn had to restrain her wife not to go and beat up a player who had pushed Adrian in a bad way, (Quinn thought that it was not a good reputation if people saw the district attorney fight with a thirteen-year-old child), the match went pretty well.
We were now in the last minutes of the match and they were decisive. The two teams were tied, so you had to score one last goal to win. That's why when the stadium saw Adrian grab the ball and start running towards the goal, everyone stood up with him and cheered him on. The two people shouting the louder were probably Santana and Quinn.
Adrian rushed forward and scored the decisive goal. Everyone screamed and clapped, and the two women hugged each other while Santana's father congratulated himself on having managed to film the scene on his phone.
And then, they turned to their son they saw heading towards the benches on the side of the field. It was then that Adrian grabbed Laura's head and kissed her. It wasn't an extremely fiery kiss, but for their age, it was very cute.
Quinn, her mother and Maribel watched the scene tenderly while Santana and Carlos smirked. "That is the Lopez charm." He said. And Santana pumped his fist as Quinn and Maribel rolled their eyes.
A few minutes later, they left the stadium and waited for Adrian outside. After changing and showering, he run to his mothers and hug them. "Did you see that?!" He asked excitedly.
"Oh yes we saw that, mijo." Santana said winking at him and ruffling his hair. He blushed a little but still looked proudly at his mother.
Quinn then pulled her son into her arms and kissed him. "I am very proud of you, baby."
He hugged her back tightly and pushed his head into her. "Thank you, Mom." He then kissed his grandparents and turned around when he heard someone call his name. He found himself face to face with Laura who was all red.
"My dad wanted to know if you wanted to come and eat with us." She asked him.
He looked at us and then looked at her and seemed to be asking himself a question.
Quinn and Santana looked at each other and the Latina began to speak. "You can go, mijo. You deserved it."
He looked at his mothers for a few more seconds before turning back to the little blonde. "It's nice, thank you, but I'll be spending the evening with my family."
Quinn frowned, although she was very happy with what her son had just said, she wanted to make sure that was what he really wanted and that he wasn't saying this just to please them. "Are you sure baby? It's okay."
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure. I want to spend the evening with my mother. But I will see you Monday, right?" He asked her and she smiled and gave him a little kiss on the cheek before going back to her parents. Adrian looked super proud and pushed out his chest before turning around and grabbed his grand-mothers' hands and told them all about his moves on the field.
The two women watched him walk forward with their family and they both looked at that with big smiles. Santana grabbed her wife's hand and they started to join them when she said. "Take that little blonde. He still likes us more."
Quinn laughed and shook her head, squeezing her wife's hand.
