AN – Thank you so much for the support I have gotten so far! I never dreamed it would go down so well! This is not the first fanfic I have written but the first I have ever published for people to see. This is unBeta'd, except from a few pre-reads from my loving fiancé. The mafia theme will enter around chapter 4 or 5, first will be Bella's story and then we will get Edwards side of things.
I sit on Roses drive waiting for her, going over the past 6 years in my head. I met the Cullen's in my Junior year of High school when I first moved to Forks. I met both the Cullen's and Whitlock's on that first day when Edward Cullen saved me from Mike Newton sleazing on me, I can still remember the commanding tone when he told Mike to leave me alone. We spent every day together after that, me and Edward quickly became a couple, and I became best friends with Alice and Rosalie.
Then two days after graduation, when we were supposed to go to NYU Together, I woke up to a text "I'm sorry, I had to go, I won't be attending NYU in the fall. I love you; I will always love you. One day you'll understand I did this for you… E x", and that was that no explanation, no goodbye, I called Rose in a state, and we raced to the Cullen house where it was empty, the whole house had been packed up and emptied overnight. He left behind so much and he didn't realise… and he never got to know.
How could he be back? Could he have found out, no there's no way… the only people who knew that were Rose, Jas and my dad. I text my dad to let him know I was at Rose's, a cop for a dad, he worries A LOT.
I feel my eyes slipping as I hear the hum from Roses engine, I turn my head to see her outrageous red mustang, I slide out of my truck to meet her at the top of her drive, "B, its going to be okay…" she wraps her arm around me as we walk towards the front door.
"What do I do? Why is he back after all this time?" I can feel the control I had been holding since the diner slipping, we get into her living room, and I flop onto her sofa,
"From what I could get from Emmett, Edward and Emmett have Graduated College, Alice, I don't know if she's back, he didn't mention her..." she sits next to me, perched nervously,
"She's back," I cut in "She was at the diner, she wanted to talk to me… I don't know what about, what could she want?"
"From what I could gather, nothing Emmett said their all working for their grandfather's business throughout Washington, so have all moved back to forks. Apparently, Esme and Carlisle have been back for a year! He didn't mention you, but something was different about him." She paused
"What?" From what I remember of Emmett he was quite extroverted, loud, he was a baseball player in high school. I got on with him well when I spent my summers at the Cullen's. I missed those times…
"He's quieter, more reserved maybe, and he's so muscular now, like steroid muscles!" I could have sworn she was dribbling; she had liked Emmett before they left but nothing had ever happened between them.
"Did he mention me?" OH MY GOD Bella, way to sound desperate, why would he mention you…
"No, I'm sorry Bells, he didn't mention you or Edward, except that they were back from College" I almost laugh, why would they mention me? They just left, there one day and then gone the next.
"Do you think Edward knows? Maybe Alice finally got the emails?" I don't know why I was so desperate for him to know; I went through the last four years on my own, but did I want him to know and experience what I had the past 4 years. My head was spinning.
"Bells don't torture yourself, you've been doing so well, if he knows we will cross that bridge" she wraps her arm around me falling against the back of the sofa, "Stay here with me and Jas tonight, we'll get takeout and watch all the movies you want" I nod
"I think that's a good idea,", just as I lean back closing my eyes, there's a sudden knock at the door, Rose gets up to get the door, and I sink into the sofa,
"What are you doing here?" My eyes open hearing Roses voice filled with so much venom,
"I need to talk to Bella Please," I hear Alice's voice again,
"She's not here," Rose says, and I can hear her shrugging, my big Chevy truck in the drive would give me away easily,
"I know she is, please… I need to speak to both of you, I miss my friends" Alice is almost pleading, something you would Seldom see the Cullen's do, people just seemed to do things for them.
"Friends? FRIENDS, you sure have a warped idea of what friends are, where were you, Alice? Where were you when we needed you?" I could hear Rose shouting but I couldn't bring myself to get up and interrupt them, I couldn't face her.
"I sent flowers when your parents passed, I was so sorry to hear of their accident, Rosalie, please let me in" after a few seconds I hear the clicks of high heels, Rose has let her in, panic sets in… I stand up to leave when they enter the lounge.
"Bella, please here me out," Alice says her voice timid, "I got your emails, I know, I know everything, I am so sorry Bella… please" Alice hadn't changed at all, she was still a 5'2, slim figured pixie, her short hair had grown slightly but was a more shaped bob now, still jet black as it had always been. Her clothes looked high end. The Cullen's had always come from money, that clearly had not changed.
I let out a huge breath, "Does he know?" my voice barely above a whisper I can feel my whole body shaking Alice starts shaking her head violently
"No, no this was for you to tell, but Bella what happened?" I shake my head, I can still feel myself shaking "I am so sorry Bella, I honestly couldn't answer you, it was for the best, but I am so sorry, and I am back and will be here for you as a friend, both of you... If you will let me" she looks between me and Rose,
"I think you need to know what happened first, and I think you need to tell us where Edward is," Rose states ignoring what she had said about being friends again, but I interrupt,
"How dare you?" my anger that had been bubbling since I had first seen her came to the surface, "How dare you come back and say you want to be there for me? Where were you 4 years ago when this happened? When I needed my friends? The only people I had help me through that were Rose, Jas and my dad! Not the one person who should have been there! Not your brother? Why would you go? Why wouldn't you answer me when I needed you, I needed him!" I didn't even realise I was crying until I felt Roses hand wipe a tear from my cheek,
"Bells don't," but I shook my head,
"I lost my baby, Mine and Edwards baby, and you didn't even tell him!" the words leave my mouth and I feel sick.
