~A Surprising Date!?~
After Yoshiteru's shock announcement of joining the Service Club. We left off with three confused members. Shizuka, Hachiman, and new member Yui…
"Yoshiteru, why are you joining the Service Club? Didn't you already sign up for the Tennis Club? Did you just leave the Tennis Club?" Hachiman asked a ton of questions to Yoshiteru.
"Nonono, i didn't quit the Tennis Club," Yoshiteru said.
"So why did you join, Yoshiteru-kun?" Shizuka asked.
"Well, you're hanging out with Hachiman everyday, and I barely go home with him when I don't have tennis practice, so I just decided to join the Service Club." Yoshiteru explained his reason for joining.
"Also, I'll be only attending when I don't have practice, so expect me not to attend club every single day," Yoshiteru said.
"So why didn't you just join someone else's club? If you just needed to wait for him, why can't a different club suffice or just wait in a cafe?" Shizuka further questioned Yoshiteru.
"Uhhh… Shizuka-san? Aren't you being too wary about me? I mean no harm to you or the Service Club. I just want to hangout with my best friend, Hachiman and get closer with Yuigahama-san. Or is it, you don't want me to disturb you and Hachiman?" Yoshiteru pointed out Shizuka's sudden blast of questions.
"Noooo! You think I would like to hang out with this foul mouthed, creepy and disgusting monster?!" Shizuka blatantly insulted Hachiman while giving an explanation.
"At least call me a human!" Hachiman added.
"So there isn't a problem of me joining then?" Yoshiteru said.
"Fine. I am just concerned for Yui. She's been quiet since you arrived so I just did that," Shizuka said.
"Don't worry, Shizuka-san. Me and Yuigahama-san had a conversation before and we're on good terms. I swear," Yoshiteru said.
"Yui, are you okay with Yoshiteru-kun joining?" Shizuka asked Yui.
"Yes. I am actually happy that Yoshiteru-kun's joining the club." Yuigahama said.
"Alright then. Yoshiteru. Where's your club form?" Shizuka said.
"Eh.. I don't have one…" Yoshiteru said.
"I thought you already had one?" Shizuka said.
"I am sorry, I don't have one. I'll give it to you after classes." Yoshiteru said.
"Okay, we'll wait for you tomorrow." Shizuka said.
"Thank you, Shizuka-san. Also, Shizuka-san. I won't disturb your time alone with Hachiman, so don't worry!" Yoshiteru said.
"JUST LIKE I SAID, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING WITH HIKIGAYA-KUN!" Shizuka really got pissed off by Yoshiteru.
"Alright, alright. I'll stop." Yoshiteru said.
"I'll be going now, Hachiman, I'll go along ahead so take your time with Shizuka-san. Yuigahama-san, I am glad we could hang out here." Yoshiteru said.
"Yeah sure whatever." Hachiman said.
"Likewise as well. Yoshiteru-kun!" Yuigahama said in an exciting tone.
After Yoshiteru visited the Service Club to join. He left to get a club form. Shizuka and Yui discussed what they should do tomorrow…
"Shizuka, we should have a party for us, new members," Yui said.
"We could do that tomorrow. What do you say, Hikigaya-kun?" Shizuka agreed and asked Hachiman.
"No, we can't. Yoshiteru has tennis practice tomorrow," Hachiman said.
"Since tomorrow is Friday. Let's have our party on the weekend, so Saturday is fine with everyone?" Shizuka asked.
"Yup. Fine by me. I am already excited." Yuigahama said.
"Yeah. I don't even have anything else to do," Hachiman also said.
"Alright then, that's that. I'll make a group chat later. Also Hikigaya-kun, message Yoshiteru-kun about the party alright?" Shizuka said.
"Yeah sure," Hachiman said.
"Alright, club dismissed." Shizuka said.
"All right! Shizuka, let's go home together!" Yuigahama said.
"Sorry Yui, I have to go somewhere." Shizuka said.
"Awww, let's go home tomorrow then!" Yui said.
"Sure." Shizuka agreed.
After Yui and Shizuka made a promise about going home together, Hachiman just left the room without saying goodbye, but then…
"HIKKI! WAIT UP!" Yui screamed.
"What." Hachiman asked.
"You haven't said goodbye to me and Shizuka." Yui said.
"You know not saying goodbye to your members is disrespectful. Hikigaya-kun" Shizuka said.
"Sorry… Goodbye." Hachiman said
"Goodbye, Hikigaya-kun. I'll see you tomorrow," Shizuka said
"Goodbye, Hikki. I'll see you as well," Yui said,
"Yeah sure." Hikigaya said.
After saying goodbye to Shizuka and Yui, he walked out of the school building and saw Yoshiteru…
"Yo." Hachiman said.
"Ah, Hachiman. Club ended?" Yoshiteru said.
"Yeah. By the way, we'll be having a party on Saturday. Make sure you come, Hiratsuka will make a group chat later." Hachiman said.
"Alright." Yoshiteru said.
"Also sorry, Hachiman. I can't walk with you home today. I have to meet with my coach. He asked for my help today. Also I got myself a club form, can you tell Shizuka-san that I'll give the form tomorrow? Thanks, " Yoshiteru further added.
"Yeah sure, I'll go now. Bye," Hachiman said.
"Yeah, Bye! I'll see you tomorrow!" Yoshiteru said.
After Hachiman told everything that Yoshiteru needed to know for the party on Saturday, he headed home. But then his phone vibrated and rang and it was a text message from Komachi…
"'Hachiman, I'll be going home late. There's a celebration here at the office. Eat outside today, there's no food in the fridge.' said Komachi"
"You better pay me back." Hachiman texted Komachi.
"Yeah, I will. Don't worry, I'll pay you back." Komachi replied back.
After Komachi's sudden text, Hachiman was looking for a good place to eat. It was really cold. So he decided to get a bowl of ramen. He entered a random ramen shop 30 minutes away from his home. Then he saw a really familiar face…
"Welcome!" Hiratsuka said.
"Hikigaya-kun!? What are you doing here?" Shizuka asked.
"Going to eat ramen here." Hachiman said.
"Oi, Shizuka. Here's the order for Table 24!" said the Chef.
"I'll talk to you later, Hikigaya-kun. I'll just finish my shift for today. Wait for me." Shizuka said.
After Shizuka left Hachiman by himself. Hachiman took a seat and ordered a hot bowl of ramen. 15 minutes after ordering his ramen, it arrived and it looked very appetizing. The clear yet rich broth with an amazing smell…

After 45 minutes, Hachiman was just waiting for Shizuka to finish.

"Goodbye," Hiratsuka said to her co-workers.
"Take care, Shizuka-chan. We'll see you again next week. Thanks for covering today's shift. I know your shift was supposed to be tomorrow, but one of them had to call in sick." said the old manager there.
"No, it's fine. I hope they can work tomorrow," Shizuka said.
"Yes, they already called me, they said they'll take your shift tomorrow, as an apology for today." said the old manager.
"Alright, thank you again," Shizuka said.
"Go home, take care. Young boy, walk her home" said the old manager.
"Yeah," Hachiman said.
After that, Hachiman walked Shizuka back home. Because it was already late, and it was dangerous, Shizuka started to talk…
"Hikigaya-kun, thanks for waiting," Shizuka said.
"Yeah, no problem. No one's in my house currently." Hachiman said.
"Eh, disgusting. Are you trying to make me come to your house? No thanks, I'll leave you bye." Shizuka said.
"No, I meant Komachi isn't at home, so no one's there" Hachiman said.
"I know, I know. I was just joking. It's been a while since we last talked alone. Last time we had a long conversation was your first day in the club." Shizuka said.
"Yeah, you were annoying and still annoying until now." Hachiman said.
"Yeah well, that might be a unique characteristic about me." Shizuka said.
"Not really. I call most people annoying." Hachiman said.
"Rude." Shizuka said.
"But I guess you're a tolerable annoying person. You can be serious at some point, yet you can make it lively. I respect that and like that about you." Hachiman complimented Shizuka.
"W-W-What are you saying?! Are you really trying to make me come home with you? No, I refuse. I am not that easy y'know." Shizuka said.
"You called me rude for calling you annoying, yet you still insult me. Aren't you the mean one?" Hachiman said.
"Well...yeah, I am sorry." Shizuka apologized.
"No, it's fine." Hachiman said.
"Hikigaya-kun, I have a question." Shizuka suddenly asked.
"What?" Hachiman said.
"Do you think I am attractive?" Shizuka asked.
"Why are you asking?" Hachiman asked as well.
"Just answer!" Shizuka said.
"Yeah, you are," Hachiman said.
"Right?! So why in the hell do my other friends have boyfriends now and I don't?!" Shizuka said.
"Does it really matter?" Hachiman said.
"Sooner or later, they'll break up. It's a social thing when you have a boyfriend or girlfriend." Hachiman said.
"Would you ever date someone, Hikigaya-kun?" Shizuka asked.
"Of course, it's just that my reasoning is different compared to others. People might use it for status or fame. But for me, I want to date someone that I want to protect forever." Hachiman said.
"Oh…. That was very different from you, Hikigaya-kun" Shizuka said.
"Anyway, we're already at my place. I'll see you tomorrow, Hikigaya-kun" Shizuka said.
"Yeah sure, bye" Hikigaya said.
After they have gone their separate ways. The two had thoughts with each other…
"You'll always love someone that you always want to protect always." Shizuka thought and..
"Different…" Hachiman thought.
Hachiman continued to walk back to his house, and when he arrived at his house. His sister wasn't home yet. So he hit the bed, and just slept.
~Friday, after classes.~
"Yahallo!" Yui said to everyone in the room.
"Hi, Yui. We're about to discuss the party tomorrow." Shizuka said.
"Alright! Also where's Hikki? I am surprised he isn't here yet," Yui said.
"Oh yeah, he had to go meet with Haruno-sensei today. He'll come here a bit late, so we'll be the only ones that will discuss the party." Shizuka explained.
"Alright then, let's start!" Yui said.
~Meanwhile, Hachiman with Haruno-sensei~
"So Hikigaya, how's the Service Club doing?" Haruno-sensei asked.
"Fine, we finished one request and gained two members so all is fine, I guess," Hachiman said.
"How about with Shizuka? Any problems dealing with her?" Haruno-sensei gave more questions.
"Dealing with her is a pain, she's loud and annoying. But she's dependable when you need her so I have nothing to major problems with her." Hachiman said.
"Haha, it's part of Shizuka's charm. But y'know. Shizuka isn't always like that." Yukino-sensei said.
"What do you mean?" Hachiman was intrigued.
"Shizuka's parents passed away when she was a child. Her parents were teachers at an old school that I used to teach at. They both got into an accident, when they were going home. When I learned about the accident. I visited Shizuka, and basically took her in and took care of her until middle school. She knew that she can't depend on me forever, so she decided to live by herself during her first year of high school until now." Haruno-sensei said.
"Within that happy outside is a sad inside, waiting for it's time to go out on someone she can depend on. That's why, Hikigaya. I hope she can depend on you while she's making you experience more out of your high school life" Haruno-sensei further added.
"Why me out of all people, Haruno-sensei?" Hachiman asked.
"Well, you talk sense into anyone's mind. So why not, let a guy who speaks anything on his mind take care of Shizuka." Haruno-sensei said.
After that comment was made by Haruno-sensei about Hachiman's question. Hachiman was silent, then he stood up and said…
"Haruno-sensei, I have to go." Hachiman said.
"Why?" Haruno-sensei asked.
"Hiratsuka and Yuigahama are planning a party." Hachiman said.
"Oh okay. I'll leave Shizuka in your care." Haruno-sensei said.
Hachiman left and just nodded. While walking to the clubroom, he thought that he should take notice of Shizuka's behavior after what Haruno-sensei said.
He arrived at the clubroom and saw the two of them just talking to each other…
"Yo." Hachiman said.
"Hikki! Look, we made a plan for the party tomorrow!" Yuigahama said.
"Hikigaya-kun, you better be available tomorrow." Shizuka said.
"Yeah, don't worry. I am always available." Hachiman said.
"Since, you two are finished with the plan. I'll go on ahead and see you two tomorrow" Hachiman said.
"Alright, bye bye. Hikki!" Yuigahama said
"See you tomorrow, Hikigaya-kun. Make sure, you dress properly, you already have dead-fish looking eyes, I don't want people to be creeped out by you." Shizuka said.
"Yeah, yeah. I won't" Hachiman said.
After that, they all left the clubroom and went home. Shizuka and Yui went home together and Hachiman went home by himself since Yoshiteru still had practice.
~the next day~
"Hikigaya-kun, over here!" Shizuka called out Hachiman.
After Shizuka called out Hachiman, they waited for Yoshiteru and Yuigahama, and then Shizuka's phone vibrated and it was a text message from Yui…
"'Shizu, sorry I can't go to the party today. I have to take my dog to the vet today.'" Yuigahama said in a text message.
And then, Hachiman's phone also vibrated and it was a text message from Yoshiteru…
"'Yo, Hachiman. Sorry I can't join the party. Coach needed second years to help the first year's practice'" Yoshiteru said in a text message.
"This can't be…" Shizuka said.
"Now what can we do?" Shizuka asked Hachiman.
"I don't know, you two planned the party." Hachiman said.
After what Hachiman said, Shizuka became silent and then said…
"Alright! Since we're here, let's just do this itinerary together." Shizuka said.
"What, why?" Hachiman said.
"We're already here, might as well have some fun. Plus, you can consider this as a date with me, y'know. A cute girl." Shizuka said.
"Yeah, yeah. Fine, let's go" Hachiman said.
"Hey! Is it that bad having me as your date, Hey!" Shizuka screams at Hachiman.
After that, Hachiman and Shizuka did stuff that was on the itinerary. They had lunch, then had cake at the same place after that, they visited an aquarium and they had an afternoon snack and lastly, they watched a movie. It was your typical drama-love story film that made Shizuka cry. After that, Hachiman walked Shizuka back to her place…
"That was fun." Shizuka said.
"Yeah," Hachiman said.
"Did you enjoy this date?" Shizuka asked.
"I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the date. Yeah, I did enjoy it." Hachiman said.
"Ehh, I didn't expect that," Shizuka replied.
"Besides, I just treated this 'date' as a normal club outing. Why didn't you just call it that?" Hachiman asked.
"Why do you ask? To be honest, I don't know either. Whenever I am with you, I feel like I can depend on you and just forget about everything. I don't know if it's because of your attitude or your status that makes it easier to talk to you." Shizuka said.
"Haha, that was out of character for me. You can forget about what I said." Shizuka said.
"It's close to where I live now, I can walk by myself at this point. Thanks for accompanying me, Hikigaya-kun" Shizuka said.
"Yeah sure, I'll see you next week. Bye" Hachiman said.
"Yeah. Bye," Shizuka said.
After the two have separated. Hachiman thought about something after what Shizuka said to him of what her feelings are when she's with him…
"The present isn't everything, but there are things you can only do now, things you can only find here. It's now or never." Hachiman thought.
~2 weeks later in the Service Club~
It's been two uneventful weeks. After I went out with Shizuka two weeks ago, our party was just held at our clubroom. We ate Hot Pot last week, and this week is bound for something to happen...
"Can I come in?" A girl's voice was heard outside of the room.
"Yeah sure, come in," Shizuka said.
"Um. Hello, I am a kouhai from the Tennis Club and I am in need of your assistance." The kouhai said…

This is a lot longer compared to the other chapters, I had to make the surprise date as a full narration instead of a sentence by sentence format to not make it super long. I am sorry I had to take shortcuts in the story.
