The Deville You Know Ch11

Paige had spent the morning pacing. At the rate she was going there was a good chance that the hotel was going to bill her for a new carpet. Well, it was that or she might have broken something in frustration. It was just past noon the day after her and Sonya had put their careers at risk, been strongly reprimanded by their boss, but had also been forced to talk things out and she'd been forced to admit she was having feelings for her team mate. Her female team mate, Paige had started out freaking out about, but as she continued to get worked up about it, she was finally forced to admit a reality of her own. She wasn't nearly as upset about that fact as she thought she should be. She felt like she should be confused about it, like she had seen on tv, in movies, books, you name it. That the fact she had a date with a woman was something she wanted, at least with the woman in question. There were elements of it that still preyed on her mind, but they were things that didn't matter before they even went on the date. They were bridges that could be crossed at a later date if things were to get serious.

All she had to do in the hotel room was pack her case. She had rescheduled her flight for the next morning to the city where Raw was to be held that Monday, but had nothing to do till then. All of her engagements had been cancelled, along with her live event bookings as part of her punishment from WWE for her behaviour the previous night, which she admitted was deserved, but it was also why she didn't go out.

She had her phone, but she'd silenced all her notifications from her social media, which was blowing up as the video of her and Sonya arguing in the ring had blown up. She had watched it a few times, but then swore off it as the fans in general had been quite unpleasant about the two of them. All she had left on was her text alerts. So far she had heard from Hunter to confirm some business details and her removal from her engagements for the weekend. He didn't go off at her again, he was being professional.

As indeed, had a lot of the locker room. She had exchanged messages with Bayley, Sasha and Alexa, apologising to them, answering their demands for an explanation with it being frustration over the blown spot and a personal issue. She knew it wasn't a good enough explanation, but there wasn't a good one for what happened. She was lucky that most of them seemed to be accepting of her apology, but she had already made not to make a full apology at tv, and was going to encourage Sonya to do the same, if she hadn't reached that conclusion herself.

But of all the people she had heard from, Sonya was one that hadn't made any contact. Yet, was the one name that she wanted to see on her screen most. She had promised to text with details of their upcoming date, and Paige had assumed that text would come sooner rather than later as they were both free. She had buried her phone under her pillow so she didn't keep checking it, only responding to its chirps when a message was received.

The pacing continued, nerves getting the best of her every so often, forcing the pacing to end while Paige sat down and took a breath. Then the cycle would repeat.

It was nearly half past three when her phone finally went off again. Paige felt butterflies as she went over, but they went away when she saw the screen.

Renee: Anything yet?

Paige regretted spilling everything to Renee in a late hour call the previous night, she needed to talk but I'm that moment she wanted to choke her friend. She typed a reply.

No! Nothing! I thought this was her you bitch!

Sorry. I luv ya, but leave me be till she messages, or my brain might explode.

Paige then threw her phone to the other end of the bed, only for it to bleep again moments later. "Damn you Renee, if this is you saying 'K' I'll kill you." But when she looked, she found her breath catching her throat.

Sonya: Hi. Sorry I didn't message till now. It's taken me all day to have a good idea for our date, but I think I've found something you'll really enjoy. At least I hope you will. Can you meet me at seven tonight in the lobby? Don't dress up. Wear something you're comfortable in, especially shoes. Sonya.

Naturally Paige was intrigued by the message, she slowly typed her response, not wanting to look too keen.

Seven sounds great, and thanks for the heads up. I assume you aren't going to tell me where we are going?

The response was as expected, to a point.

Sonya: You're right, I'm not, it's a surprise, but I really think you'll have a good time. All I'll say is I really can't wait to see you. X

Me neither. Was all Paige sent back as she found herself go silly at the message and the kiss at the end. She put on a black crop top and jeans, sneakers and spent a lot of time making sure her make up was perfect.

At five minutes to seven, she left her hotel room and took the elevator down to the lobby. When the doors opened, Sonya was already there, in nearly identical clothes.

"Oh my goodness, I guess great minds think alike. Are you ok with us dressed so similar? I can go change if you want?" Sonya babbled, almost too fast to be understood.

"Sonya, calm down. It's fine. We just have the same taste in clothes. Nothing wrong with it. Obviously I think you look great."

Sonya felt herself going red with embarrassment, so she changed the subject as fast as she could. "You do too. Are you ready to go?"

"I'm ready, you telling me where we are going now?"

Sonya smirked and shook her head. "Nope. You'll see when we get there." She took out her phone and ordered an Uber. It took only a few minutes. Sonya opened the rear door and held it for Paige. "Your chariot m'lady." She said, getting a laugh from Paige.

"That's so corny, and not exactly the best description of a Prius." She said, but the smile never left her face. Sonya got in behind her and the car headed to the destination she had requested.

Sonya got out of the car first. "So this is it, what do you think?" She asked pointing to a marquee sign.

"KPPX Battle Of The Bands?" Paige asked, to a nod from Sonya. "You mean these battle of the band events are real, not just something on tv?"

"No they have them everywhere, they're great for small bands, I know you like this sort of music, I'm open to all kinds, so I thought it'd be fun. Is it ok?"

Paige looked at Sonya like she was mad, and a genius all at once. "Is it ok? It's awesome, this is going to be great. Come on, let's get tickets."

Sonya smiled and held something out to her date. "Already got them. Hotel concierge told me about it and hooked me up. It was sold out. It's why I didn't message you till late. Wasn't sure if he'd be able to get them or not." She gave Paige her ticket.

"We'll I'm glad he did. Hope you tipped him well." Paige said laughing.

"I did, and it seems like it was worth every penny, seeing you so excited."

Paige looked at Sonya, feeling really good about the night ahead. "I am, this is so great. Thank you." The two shared a look into each other's eyes for a second, both smiling.

"Come on then, we've got about half an hour before the first band." Sonya said. As she turned towards the venue, she felt Paige grab onto her arm with both hands, holding it against her as they walked to the doors. She was practically bouncing from excitement and Sonya couldn't help but find it adorable.

They showed their tickets and went into the venue. They followed the masses and found themselves on the floor near the stage. The area in front of the stage was filling up with people, but there was room still, plus a tiered area up on the second floor.

"So, do you want to get up close? Go up there for a better view?" Sonya asked.

"Let's stay down here, but not get too close, have a bit of room to move around. Some of these bands should be good to get a bit of a groove on." Paige answered, trying to show off a little dance move in the process. Sonya watched her, enjoying every second, but got lost in her thoughts and left an awkward silence, finally broken by Paige. "Uh, earth to Sonya?"

"Drinks!." Sonya said, snapping back with a full body jerk. Paige could help but laugh at it. "I mean, would you like a drink?"

"I would, but I'll pay for them, you got the tickets. Stay here so I don't lose you ok?" Paige said, still laughing a little bit as she went off looking for the bar.

While Sonya waited, she had her head in her hands, smacking herself on the forehead. "Stupid, stupid woman! Way to be cool in front of her." She said to herself, before realising she was talking to herself in a public place. She Immediately shut her mouth till Paige returned, which she did minutes later with two beer bottles.

"Here." She handed one to Sonya. "Cheers." She gestured her bottle towards her.

"Here's to...uh..." Sonya found herself lost for words again.

"To us. And to a really great... first date." Paige hesitated slightly before the last two words, but the glow it put on Sonya's face was more than worth it in her mind.

"Good evening music fans!" Suddenly boomed over the speakers, sparking the crowd into a frenzy and a man took to the stage. "I am Ian 'The Shark', from this cities number one radio station, KPPX, and tonight we bring to you the best new bands from around the state, and one of them will win a recording contract worth a minimum fifty thousand dollars!" The crowd were going crazy just from this, and the host was feeding off it. "Now remember, all you little people out there, you will decide the winner of tonight's contest. You go to the stage, to either bar, like you need an excuse for that, or the entrance to find our crew, who will give you a ballot. Choose one band and cast your vote. If you don't vote, what the hell are you even doing here?" Again the crowd exploded. "Now let's get on with the night, welcome your first band of the night?" The crowd cheered as the first group walked on and got themselves set up.

"All right! We are Hedgehog Pump, we are your first band, we are here to get this party started!" Cried out the lead singer. The drummer counted them in and they launched into a tune that immediately had the crowd jumping. Paige and Sonya found themselves swept up in the crowd, a party atmosphere in full force, but didn't get separated.

The last band of what turned out to the first half was a metal band calling themselves Eden War. They clearly had a reputation preceding them, as a group in the crowd next to them starting roaring their heads off in support as they started playing. The area in front of the stage became a full blown mosh pit, bodies flying everywhere. There wasn't enough room to keep away from it. One body came out with such momentum and so suddenly Sonya didn't have a chance. He was bigger than her and she went down as he was only stopped by the wall. Paige was on her in a flash, pulling her to her feet, getting them away from the stage.

"You ok?" Paige asked, concern in her voice.

"I'm fine." Sonya said, checking her hands. "Just a scratch on my hand from something on the floor."

"Ok good, he hit you pretty hard."

"Yeah, but I'm tougher than I look." Sonya said, not trying to brag, but to not let her fall derail their evening. She did notice the way Paige was looking at her though. Like she was impressed.

"Ok tough nut, how about another drink." Paige said, holding out her hand again. Sonya took it, and Paige instantly saw her smile. "See, you aren't as tough as you make out."

"Not when it comes to you." Sonya said, immediately wishing she hadn't said something quite as cringeworthy.

Paige laughed, but she didn't let go. They held hands all the way to the bar, and got their drinks just in time as everyone stormed into the bar for the start of intermission.

"You want to go back to where we were, or up high for the second half?" Paige asked.

"Let's go back, I has having fun till I got levelled." Paige said, and they did so, while they waited for the second half started.

Just as before, the standing area got full quickly as host Ian 'The Shark' reminded everyone to vote for the winner in the next break. Just as the first band hit the stage, a ridiculously tall man pushed right in front of Sonya, putting his around what must have been his girlfriend.

"Son of a..." Sonya grumbled, as she shuffled back to her right so she was just behind Paige. "Am I Ok here?" She asked.

"Sure, don't mind him, selfish ass." Paige said back. They watched the band on stage, who were good, but weren't quite as good as others. As they left, it surprised both Sonya and Paige that the next act was all female. The expected wolf whistles came from the crowd, making them both roll their eyes.

"Hi, we are Hot Mess. Thanks to KPPX for having us. This is a song we wrote called Soulmate." They quickly introduced themselves and started playing. To the surprise of most, it was a much slower tempo song that any other act had performed so far, but as far as either Sonya or Paige thought, the band clearly had talent and ability.

"They're great." Paige lent back to say to Sonya. "Didn't expect that from a band called Hot Mess." Sonya stepped closer to Paige and nodded her agreement. The crowd agreed, everyones attention focused on the stage, arms being waved in the air. As she stepped close to her date, Sonya put her hand on Paige's waist. It caught Paige by surprise as she flinched to check what it was. When she saw whose hand it was, she lent back into Sonya's body. She took that as a good sign and dared to move her other arm to meet it in front so she had her arms around Paige's middle. She felt Paige's hands cover her own and felt awash with happiness as they swayed together to the music. This lasted a few moments before Paige turned in her grip, forcing her to break it. Paige turned so they were face to face, before Sonya had a chance to respond, Paige put her arms around Sonya's neck, and continued their previous movements. Sonya put her arms back around Paige's waist, and they gently danced together until the song came to its close. The crowd went crazy in applause. Paige and Sonya just looked into each other's eyes. Every fibre of Sonya's being screamed at her to go for a kiss, but she didn't take the risk of ruining the moment. She regretted it as soon as she realised it was too late, wishing she had a do-over. Paige had the same thought, but decided not to do so, suddenly very aware of the amount of people around.

The rest of the acts all had talent, but when it came to the voting, they had both made their minds up. They cast their votes, grabbed more drinks, and headed back a few minutes later to hear the host read the results.

"OK, it's the moment of truth, who earns this deal and the big money it comes with. So, in third place winning $500, give it up for...Hedgehop Pump!" The host announced, not wasting time. They came on and accepted their prize, looking a little disappointed.

"So, the runners up, winning $2500...Hot Mess!" Sonya felt her head drop in disappointment, knowing they weren't going to close the show with their winning song now. But she winced as she felt a blood curdling scream in her ear. Paige was cheering like mad.

"You should have won! It's fixed! Don't give up! Woooo!" Paige shouted above the cheers and one of the band even acknowledged her with a wave as they took their prize.

"That was so cool." she said. "But let me know if you're going to scream in my ear!" She said, making it clear she wasn't mad. Paige laughed as well. They were focused on each other, only disturbed when there was a recognisable roar from the crowd as Eden War were announced as the winner and their existing fans celebrated.

"Let's get out of here?" Paige said, half asking, half telling. Soya nodded and they found their way thorough to the exit, beating the crowds and having to trouble getting an Uber back to the hotel.

"What floor are you on?" Sonya asked Paige as they reached the hotel elevator, pushing the button for that floor when she got her answer. As they got out and walked down the corridor, Sonya racked her brain for something to say when they reached the door to Paige's room. She was getting worked up about wrecking what she felt had been a really successful night at the last moment, and it was definitely possible. Unfortunately she ran out of time pretty quick, Paige stopping not far from the elevator.

"This is me here." She said, looking down.

"Oh ok." Sonya said, leaving an uncomfortable silence.

"Um... thank you, thank you for tonight." Paige said, followed by more silence. She too, had no idea what to say.

"You're welcome." Sonya racked her brain for something to say. "Shame that all girl band didn't win."

"I know!" Paige said, grateful to have something to add to the conversation. "They were the best by far, but that other lot brought their fans I guess. They bought the prize."

"Well maybe Hot Mess will catch on somewhere else. We will have to keep an eye out."

"We shall. But I still had a really good time, even though they lost." Paige said, hoping that was the right thing to say.

"I'm glad, I did too. Does that mean, um." Sonya took a breath. "That you would want to go out again, you know, with me?"

Paige smiled, and stepped in closer, put her hand around Sonya's head, and kissed her on the cheek, the kiss lingering for a second before she pulled away.

"I'd love to." Paige said. Now Sonya was smiling just as much. "How about Tuesday, after we get back to Florida. This time, let's just go for a simple drink somewhere, so we can talk. You know, get to know each other better?"

"Sounds great." Sonya said.

"Shall I pick the place this time?" Paige asked.

"Yeah, Ok. So, well, I guess I'll see you at TV on Monday."

"Sure, but, if you want, you can text me."

"I'd like that." Sonya felt herself going red. "I better, you know, go. Um, goodnight."

"Goodnight." Paige said, watching as Sonya turned and headed back down the corridor. Sonya looked back as she reached the corner and their eyes met. Simultaneously they both felt embarrassed at getting caught looking. Paige dashed into her room and Sonya took the stairs up the two floors to her room. Both of them laid in their respective beds, feeling embarrassed, but very content, and very happy with how their date had gone. With another coming soon however, the butterflies in their stomachs certainly hadn't gone anywhere.

A.N: Thanks for reading.

The first date certainly went well. What do you think they will talk about when they go out again? Will it go as smoothly? Do let me know what you think in a message, or a review.

Some possible light at the end of the quarantine tunnel. Hope everyone reading and your friends and family members are staying safe and well.
