The Deville You Know Ch15
Paige got back from her meet and greet session without a lot of time to get ready to be ready for the Hall of Fame ceremony. The company had whisked her and three others back to the hotel as quick as they could, but the other three were guys, and she knew they wouldn't have a problem with the short time frame. She jumped in and out the shower as fast as she could, did her hair and make up, and had barely got the zipper on her dress fastened when Sonya arrived at the door to collect her for their date, although it wasn't a date to anyone who didn't know, which was basically everyone else.
Paige opened the door and Sonya's jaw dropped. She stood there looking like a guppy fish.
"Sonya? Girl you better get in here before your eyes pop out as well." Paige grabbed her hand and pulled her into the hotel room, closing the door quickly. Sonya just couldn't stop staring. "So I take it for no time to get ready, I haven't done a bad job?
Sonya found her voice. "You're beautiful." She saw Paige immediately going red. "I've never seen you in a dress before, hair all on point, and make up like this." Sonya tried to make herself clearer with wild arm movements, but wasn't really making sense.
Paige, still red, looked down for a second, but then looked back up with a smile. She was certainly enjoying being told she was beautiful. She stopped Sonya's flailing when she walked up to her and kissed her tenderly, as Sonya held her. "Thank you. You made me so happy just then." She whispered.
"Anytime. To me, you're always beautiful, but right now, simply breathtaking." She said back, getting another kiss for her continued flattery.
"I could listen to you coo over me all night babe, but we better go soon." Paige said. "And look at you. I was expecting to get to see you in a dress for the first time ever, but I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer."
"Do I look ok?" Sonya asked. She was wearing a black suit, shirt and tie, with her hair straightened.
"I wasn't expecting this that's for damn sure, but, you know that tingling sensation you get all over when you look at someone and something happens to you that you can't explain?"
"You mean like goosebumps?" Sonya asked.
Yeah, but inside as well as outside. That's what you did to me. What you do to me. Why I knew I had to get over my fears and be with you."
"You don't need to have any fears. I'm here for you through all of this."
"I know. Thanks for being so good about it."
Sonya laughed gently. "Honey, you don't have to keep thanking me for it. It's what you do for someone you care for."
"I know, but I still feel like I should. You're special, and very sweet."
"Yeah, well don't go telling everyone. Come on." Sonya helped Paige get her purse in order and they left the room. Walking down the corridor Sonya was pleasantly surprised to feel Paige hold her hand until they were inside the elevators.
"One step at a time, right?" Paige said, feeling guilty for letting go. Sonya stole one last kiss before they joined the other superstars in the hotel lobby.
A short time later they were backstage, mingling as they were sent in a few at a time to 'walk the red carpet that was being used as a pre-show ceremony. Paige went to talk to Ivory, who was being inducted. Sonya didn't know her so hung back, and nearly jumped out of her skin when she was tapped on the shoulder. She turned round to see Dean with a cheesy grin.
"Haha, still a rookie."
"Ass."
"That's what most call me, but I prefer Dean."
"And I prefer Sonya to 'Rook' or 'Rookie', but I doubt either of us are going to get what we want."
"I don't know. From what I've heard you got exactly what you wanted." Dean gave a knowing smile. Sonya pulled him away from the rest of the people gathered.
"Renee told you?"
"Of course Renee told me. She's my wife."
"Dean please, you can't tell anyone else, not Roman, not Seth. Nobody. If this gets leaked out Paige is going to..." Sonya was getting worked up but Dean held his hands in a surrender pose.
"Relax Rook. Renee made it very clear what will happen to me if I dare breath a word to anybody, or more specifically, what I will lose." Dean looked down, not that Sonya needed any further explanation to that statement.
"Fine, but if she doesn't, I certainly will. Paige isn't as tough as she wants people to think she is. She's, well, she's special to me." Sonya tried, but couldn't stop herself blushing.
"Look at you all loved up." Dean couldn't help rubbing it in. "I guess you're not as tough as you'd like to think either."
"I'd still kick your ass Ambrose." Sonya got a hold of herself, making Dean laugh.
"I'm hopefully not going to find out." He said. "But seriously, good for you two. I'd be lying if I said I saw it coming, but nobody will find out anything from me."
"Thanks. Look, obviously it's a busy week, but Paige and I should take you and Renee for another meal or something in a couple of weeks."
"A double date huh? It'll be weird to be the only dude." Sonya rolled her eyes at Dean's intentional sarcasm.
"Yeah, and still not the toughest one at the table. And I look better in a suit." Sonya took her shots.
Dean clutched his heart. "Oh, you got me. Fatal wound."
"What are you two doing?" Paige joined them just as Dean was going to overact himself to death.
"Dean looked over their shoulder to see if anyone was close. "Your girlfriend here was questioning my manhood." Paige's head whipped round to check nobody heard, seeing that wasn't an issue.
"Dean, shut up. You could have...wait, your manhood?" Paige asked puzzled.
"Never mind. But like I told Sonya, I'm no snitch, chill out ok? Just take us somewhere nice to ensure our silence."
"We are taking you somewhere?" Paige asked.
"Yeah, I kinda promised that one. Night out on us. Is that ok?" Sonya was a little concerned she'd jumped the gun, but Paige shrugged it off.
"Sure, sounds good. But right now babygirl, we need to get on the red carpet, they called our names."
"Ok. Let's go." Sonya reached for Paige's hand, giving it a squeeze before they faced the cameras.
As soon as they stepped onto the red carpet, Paige heard her name being called. Both the fans in attendance who had spotted her, and the photographers snapping pictures of them. Sonya stepped back to let them get their shots in, but Paige kept her from doing it, making sure she stayed in the photographs. They posed with an arm around each other, looking like the tag partners that everyone saw them as. When the flash bulbs stopped and they moved onto the next superstars arriving, Paige and Sonya moved on to take pictures with a group of fans who had won a competition that got them VIP passes. They were all so excited to meet everyone. One teenage girl in particular drew their attention gasped when they got to her, and they realised she was wearing an Absolution T-shirt.
"Hi, thanks for wearing our shirt!" Sonya exclaimed, giving the girl a half hug.
"Oh my god, I love you guys. I saw Mandy already, she was so sweet. I hoped you'd all be together, but that you've all talked to me is so cool!" The girl spoke almost too fast to be understood.
"What's your name?" Paige asked.
"I'm Jenna. I'm so happy to meet you."
"Aw, you're so cute. Did you say you met Mandy already?" Paige asked.
"Yeah, she was with Finn Balor, but she still came over to me."
"I'm so happy she did. Often she can't be pried away from him, bet everyone comes here with their dates." Sonya said, not thinking.
"Are you two here together? Oh my god, that would be so cool!" Jenna said, still excited.
Paige looked ready to tell her otherwise, but saw the hope on her face, like she wanted it to be true more than they had. She couldn't do that to her. "Yeah, she's my date tonight. But don't tell anyone, you know what social media is like." She gave a wink and a smile. This made the teen light up.
"Ok, I won't, I swear. This just so awesome. I've been a fan since a Tough Enough."
"It's been so great to meet you." Sonya was sincere in her words.
"You want to get a picture before we take our seats?" Paige asked rhetorically.
"Yes please!" Jenna said, getting her phone out. She turned an the three of them posed for her to snap the selfie.
"Make sure you tag us in it ok?" Paige asked.
"Of course! It's so good to get to talk to you, I'll be cheering for you Sunday!" Jenna said, beaming a smile.
"You too, and thanks. Have a good time tonight." Sonya said. Paige and her then finished signing and taking pictures with the other fans.
Before they could get to their marked seats, they were approached by producer. "We want you to do an interview with Renee for the live show on the network. Any issues? Neither woman objected and went and stood with Renee.
"You both ok?" She asked.
"Yeah, Dean gave me his usual stick about you know what." Sonya said.
"I asked him not to. He does know not to shoot his mouth off though. And I haven't had the chance to say how happy I am for you two yet Sonya, but you two are great together."
"Yeah, I think so too." Sonya looked adoringly at Paige, who blushed.
"Stop it, we are going to be on tv any second." The English woman said.
"Yes, get ready." Renee pointed at another producer who counted them down. She launched into interviewer mode on cue.
"Thanks Kayla, I'm joined now by another woman who's having a really big week, and it's all leading up to her shot at the Raw Women's Championship this Sunday at Wrestlemania. I'm talking about Paige of course, and she's here with one of her Absolution team mates, Sonya Deville. Sonya, if I can address you first, it's your first Hall Of Fame ceremony, how are you enjoying it?"
"I'm having a night to remember Renee. I've met legends and trail blazers from WWE history. The women's division owes a lot to those who came before us and I'm glad to be here to honour them. Hopefully I'll get to stand on that stage one day."
"Indeed, but that's a way off, let's talk about closer events. Sunday. Wrestlemania. Paige challenges Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women's Title. The chance to complete an unprecedented comeback. You and Mandy being at her side is a big advantage, wouldn't you say?"
Sonya let her face go into a scowl. "Wouldn't you say what? Absolution has been on fire since we debuted. Sunday won't be any different. I will win the battle royal, and then Paige takes what's hers."
Paige then interjected herself. "You think Mandy and Sonya give me an advantage Sunday? You're right. But that's the point. You think I haven't been planning all of this? I had plenty of time to plan, to handpick the women I want by my side, and strike at the right moment. Sunday it all pays off. I'm going to enjoy tonight, knowing that in a couple of days I'll be the Raw Women's Champion. In that regard I almost feel a bit sorry for Little Miss Bliss. She probably gripping that championship with both hands, crying that she won't have it soon. Poor thing."
Sonya and Paige both laughed. Renee rolled her eyes. "No shortage of confidence in the ranks of Absolution. Let's go to Byron, who's with the Smackdown Women's Champion, Charlotte Flair."
They were signalled that they were clear, and Renee grinned. "That was fun."
Paige gave her friend a quick hug. "Always. I'm not used to trying to act in character while glammed up like this though."
"When you're champ you'll have even more media, so you might have to get used to it."
"I've won nothing yet. People have to stop jinxing me." Paige said.
"You'll be fine honey." Sonya spoke quieter to ensure they weren't heard.
"One thing at a time, Sunday's not here yet. Bye Renee." Paige said as they left her on the stage, and they began to set up her next interview, this one with Seth Rollins. Paige and Sonya took their seats, catching up with Superstars sat around them, before enjoying the ceremony itself.
There were a lot more photos taken after the show, but all for the company, for their social media platforms and the website. As soon as it was all done Paige and Sonya returned to the hotel with many other superstars around, forcing them to make sure they weren't spotted going back to Sonya's hotel room together.
"You staying here again tonight?" Sonya asked, hoping for one response, but very wary that there was a lot of reasons why that answer might not be coming. Paige looked a little unsure. "You don't have to. I know I keep asking, and I want you to, but don't feel obligated. We don't need to spend every night together, it certainly won't change my feelings for you."
"Tomorrow I'll stay in my room, if you really don't mind." Paige said, staring at the floor. "I want to be well rested, get an early night, be ready for Sunday. It's not that I don't want to be with you though." She felt like she needed to add the last sentence, feeling on edge, despite what she was told.
Sonya wrapped her arms around Paige. "I told you, it's fine. We have been together a matter of days, but we have been around each other nearly every minute since, aside from a few interviews and signings. I don't want you to feel pressured."
"I don't. You've not made me feel uncomfortable at all since we got together. Right now, the only place I feel like I am comfortable, is when I'm alone with you. Like I can be the real me."
Sonya couldn't help but smile hearing that and seeing her girl blush at the same time. She curled a finger under her chin and lifted her head so they made eye contact for a few seconds before kissing her lips.
"That's what I want you to feel like. If that's what you want tomorrow, does that mean you're staying again tonight?" This time it was Paige who kissed Sonya.
"Let's watch a movie before sleeping. You find one, I'll get changed. She grabbed the pyjama set she'd brought from her room and went to the bathroom to freshen up and change. Sonya did the same right after , while finding a comedy that had just started on tv. They cuddled up together to watch, each feeling very content, until they were interrupted by Sonya's phone. She looked at it and her face fell into an unreadable expression.
"What's wrong?" Paige asked.
"I'm not sure. Mandy says to check Twitter." Sonya said, opening her app.
"That's never good." Paige wanted to cover herself with the sheets rather than look, but waited for Sonya to tell her what happened. She was kept waiting a moment as Sonya started scrolling.
"So, what's happened?" Paige asked eventually. Sonya showed a picture of them taken at the ceremony, one was with Jenna, and one of just them, where they were standing close together and both had huge smiles.
"That girl was sweet, and that second one, that's a nice picture. I need a copy for myself." Paige looked back at Sonya, who looked awkward. "What?"
"Don't get upset, but it's kinda gone viral."
"What do you mean?"
Sonya tried not to smile. "The tweet reads 'How cute do these two look together? Does anyone else totally ship them as a couple?"
Paige lost her smile. "How did they find out? Did Mandy talk?"
"No honey, nobody talked. Someone's just saying that they think we make a cute couple, and judging by a few thousand likes so far, and reading the replies, so do a lot of people." Sonya stroked Paige's hair, trying to be caring, and keep her calm all at the same time.
Paige didn't speak for a minute while she got her head straight. "They do? That's kinda cool right?"
"I think so, and for the record, I agree." Sonya lent in for a kiss that was enthusiastically returned. "And it shows that when the times comes that we tell people, whenever that may be, at least we know there are people out there that support us."
"I'm still nowhere near ready for it, but you're right." Paige didn't recoil the way she had in the past, so Sonya dared to continue.
"They've also given us a name."
"What do you mean a name?" Paige didn't understand.
"You know, a couple name, like Brangelina, or Kimye."
"Oh my god, you're kidding. Off one photo?" Paige said in disbelief.
Sonya nodded. "That's Twitter for you."
Paige shook her head. "You're right, I shouldn't be this surprised. Dare I ask?"
Sonya took a few seconds to reply, scrunching up her face in mock horror. "Saige."
"Sage? Like the herb?" Paige raised an eyebrow.
Sonya laughed. "I guess, but with the I in it. Think Paige with an S."
"Saige..." Paige thought out loud. "I can live with it. Could have been a lot worse probably."
"It's not the only one that's on here, but it was the most common. It won't become a thing till they know we're a thing."
"I know, but if everyone starts calling us by one name once that happens I may go crazy." Paige said lightheartedly as they got comfortable on the bed again.
Sonya laughed, pulling her girl closer. "Me too honey. Me too."
A.N.: Thanks for reading, and thanks to everyone who has supported the story.
First time I've tried to write anything close to a wrestling promo, assuming that can be called close to it lol.
Saige was the best name I could think of for them, I like it, but I'm open to any other ideas that readers may have. If you have suggestions feel free to leave them in a review, or message me directly on here.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, or Happy Holiday if you do not celebrate Christmas, and I hope 2021 is a much happier year for everyone.
JurassicFatt, thank you for your xmas message. you really should think about getting an account so I can thank you directly :-)
Terrible news about Jon Huber Aka Luke Harper/Brodie Lee. 41 is no age to be taken. My thoughts go out to his family.
