The Deville You Know Ch16
"If she can apply the hold, it's over!" Michael Cole shouted into his microphone, getting hyper.
"She's got it, and the arms hooked, it's the PTO!" Corey Graves said when Paige fully applied her trademark submission hold.
"There's no escape, we've got a new champion!" Coach added as Alexa Bliss screamed in the ring.
Alexa did everything in her power to escape the painful position she was in. She put her small frame to her advantage, and was able to get her arm free. She pounded on Paige's leg, again and again until it buckled and they both fell onto the mat.
"Bliss survives, but has the damage been done?" Coach asked nobody in particular.
Paige was able to get to her feet first, walking off the repeated blows to her leg for a second, before she picked Alexa up and positioned her for the Paige Turner. Alexa was ready for it and used the momentum for her own benefit, hooking her arm around Paige's head and driving it down, executing one of her own signature moves.
"Bliss got the DDT!" Graves shouted.
"She hooks the leg... 1...2...and Paige somehow gets her shoulder up!" Cole called as the crowd popped. Alexa got up, a look of frustration on her face. She slammed Paige back down and positioned her near a turnbuckle.
"Uh oh, I think she's looking for Twisted Bliss!" Cole stated what was clear to most.
As Alexa climbed to the top rope, Mandy entered the ringside area and jumped up onto the apron. The referee immediately went over to her and began yelling at her to leave.
"Mandy Rose! She shouldn't be here!" Cole said.
"Absolution were kicked out of ringside to make sure there was a fair title match. Looks like they aren't going to let that happen." As Graves spoke, Sonya appeared on the other side, not seen by the official, used the rope for a springboard and gave Alexa a strong kick to the gut, dropping her onto the top of the turnbuckles. Paige was there moments later, climbing up and hooking Alexa's head and leg.
"Wait, she can't do this!" Coach claimed as Paige jumped and executed her own DDT perfectly.
"The Rampaige! From the top rope!" Cole screamed.
"That's gotta be it." Graves added and Paige made the cover and the referee proved him right by making the three count.
Sonya and Mandy both hit the ring immediately, Sonya made sure she reached Paige first, almost knocking her over with the force of the hug, picking her team leader up in her arms. It only added to Mandy's grin to watch it happen as she turned it into a group hug. Paige broke it as the referee was waiting to hand her the title belt. She took it and climbed a turnbuckle to show it off to the crowd, who had popped huge for the title change. The three posed one last time, one on each side of Paige as they raised their arms for the main photo and tv shot before they continued to celebrate on their way up the ramp.
Paige embraced Alexa as soon as she was through the curtain, before Hunter was waiting for all three of them.
"Thank you, thank you for believing in me." Paige said. "This means so much."
"You deserve it. You've done a great job on tv. Just remember, you're the champion now, no more issues that make us both look bad." Hunters smile was warm and genuine.
"No way. That's all behind me now, I feel like a new woman." Paige's eyes looked to Sonya for a second as she said it, and filled Sonya's heart, she got the message.
Hunter pulled Paige in for a half hug. "I like the sound of that. Come on, let's get a photo." Paige and Hunter posed for a picture together with the title, and he then called Mandy and Sonya in for one with all four of them. "You two did well, just consider your timings in bigger arenas, remember everywhere is a little different, but again, good job."
"Thanks." Sonya said, taking the hint that they needed to move on. They headed back to the locker room, and let Paige take the congratulations of all of her peers.
Later that night, there was the traditional Wrestlemania after party. Sonya and Paige got ready in their own rooms and met in the ballroom that had been set up and well secured so that no fans or press could get in.
Sonya arrived later than several others, and looking around, saw that a lot of the women had taken over a large seating area to one side, including the only woman she was really looking for, who was talking to her opponent from that evening, until she locked eyes with Sonya.
"Excuse me." She said to Alexa, getting up and rushing over to Sonya. "Hi!" She said, trying to talk over the music.
Sonya lent in so she could speak into her ear. "You look absolutely beautiful."
Paige went red before leaning to use the same method. "So do you. I haven't seen you in a dress before, you're breathtaking."
"Yeah, well don't get used to it." Sonya relies, making them laugh. They went back to the table, sat next to each other. Sonya happily took a glass of champagne, passed down by Mandy, who was talking to Bayley.
The women all stayed together mostly, enjoying the drinks and dancing as a group for a while, letting their collective hair down. Nobody challenged Paige or Sonya on why they were glued to each other's side all night, which helped them to relax.
As the time ticked on, Vince asked for a microphone and gave a speech, everyone gathering round. He made a similar speech to most years, thanking all of them for their hard work, both that day and over the last year. Stephanie and Hunter then did the same, and Alexa and Paige felt proud when Stephanie name checked them and praised their match among a few others. Paige enjoyed that moment even more when she felt Sonya discreetly squeeze her hand. She looked around, but saw so many people looking her way that there was no chance of her stealing more than that.
"Right, the bar is open still, but please remember that we have tv tomorrow, and I think most of us know how much fun working hungover is. I know I do." Hunter concluded his remarks to some laughter, before the music started up again. It began with a slower song. Many superstars taking to the dance floor with their partners. Mandy rivalling mostly of them for the biggest smile as Finn asked her to dance. Sonya felt like taking a chance and asking Paige to dance, feeling that it wouldn't prove that there was something more between them, especially as they worked so close together, but as she tried to find the words, Roman Reigns approached them.
"Good evening Ladies. Paige, congratulations."
"Thank you Roman. And to you as well. You aren't feeling too beat up?"
"Nah. Brock leaves a mark, and I might be sore tomorrow, but I'll worry then. Anyway, we've got to represent as champions now right?" The Samoan said, in character, getting them to laugh for a second before he continued. "Anyway, I wondered if I could have this dance?"
"You want to dance? Where's your wife?" Paige was surprised. Sonya quickly regained her composure. For a second she forgot Roman was married and got instantly jealous.
"Upstairs, putting our daughter to bed. So, will you?" Paige smiled and took his hand. They went to the floor and joined all the other couples. Sonya watched them all from the side. Unsurprised that she wasn't asked, and in a way, a little relieved. But it didn't stop the jealousy. She swore to herself that next year, she'd dance with Paige at this show. It wasn't helped that although Paige's arms were around Roman, her eyes were on Sonya every time they turned the right way.
The dance lasted a matter of minutes. Roman parted from Paige and they went different ways. Paige went back to Sonya.
"How was it?" Sonya asked, in a less than excited tone.
"It was fine, good thing about dancing with a wrestler, they usually know how to move."
"And he's the best too. World champion."
Paige grasped the tone this time. "Do you have a problem with Roman?" She asked.
Sonya realised she was being stupid. "No, not at all, he's been great to me we've talked several times."
"Then what's with the attitude? Oh no, don't tell me you're mad I danced with him?"
"No, it's just, you two looked good out there. I..." Sonya trailed off.
Paige took her hand and led her to the side. "Babygirl, this is a good day. Don't let this ruin it for you. Remember, we promised to talk about anything."
Sonya felt herself blushing. "I just wished it was me."
"It was, we've danced together before."
Sonya felt embarrassed, unable to keep eye contact, but wasn't going to avoid the truth. "I know I'm not much of a dancer, but with you, I want it to always be me. I got a bit jealous."
Paige tilted Sonya's head back up so they were looking at each other. "It is you. You don't need to ever be jealous, or worried. There's nobody else. Not for me. There's only you."
Sonya felt everything else wash away from those words. "It's nearly over. Can we get out of here?"
"Sure. You want to tell Mandy we're leaving?"
Sonya could see Mandy from where she was. She made a gesture, pointing at herself and Paige then the door. Mandy gave her a wave of understanding and a smile. She then returned her attention to the Irishman she was all but hanging off of.
"All sorted. Let's go." Sonya said, and they left the ballroom. They headed back to Sonya's hotel room, which had been practically turned into a shared room over the week. As soon as the door closed, Sonya turned to Paige and kissed her hard. "That was for 'There's only you.'" She said. "How I held it till now I don't know."
"I didn't say it for the kiss, but I'm not complaining." Paige said, collapsing on the bed. "What a week. I'm exhausted."
"Me too." Sonya joined her.
"I'm not surprised. You were involved in two matches."
Sonya scoffed. "Yeah, 5 minutes in the battle royal and a run in. And apparently I blew the timing on that."
"Don't worry about that. Well look it over tomorrow before tv or something. Tomorrow, not tonight."
Sonya went silent, thinking for a moment. "And then we go back home. It's been so good being around you so much this week. It'll be weird going home, so much has changed."
"It'll be fine. We only have a few days before the next show anyway. Not much of a break."
"Not what I meant, and you know it." Sonya jabbed Paige in the side playfully.
"I know. Don't worry. Just because we won't be together all the time anymore won't change how we feel, will it." Paige said, rhetorically.
"Course not." Sonya confirmed. "Finn and Mandy are getting serious, and I think she's going to start to rooming and travelling with him. It'll mean we can do the same."
"Well we already travel together. Shame she's not going to be there, but I'm not surprised. It was certainly coming. But yes, I'm happy to share a hotel room with you. And it means you'll have somewhere to storm off to when we fight."
"What? We don't fight?" Sonya looked up, puzzled.
"We will, sometimes. But even when we storm off, we talk after. Whatever needs to be said." Paige said, a slightly different look on her face. Almost sad.
"Honey. It's ok. Maybe we won't fight. Maybe we will. But you're right, we will always talk to each other. There's a lot ahead of us."
"Yeah there is. Especially for me. But I think I've made a good decision, finally."
"What decision?" Sonya asked, before realising what she meant. "Oh."
Paige giggled. "Yes, oh. Now then, I think I owe someone a dance."
"Here? Sonya asked as she was pulled back to her feet.
"You don't want to?" Paige asked.
"Of course I do." Sonya admitted.
"Then don't ask silly questions." Paige said. She grabbed her phone and scrolled through. "I need a slow song. I'm not good at romantic music."
"Me neither." Sonya shrugged. The awkward silence only lasted a few seconds as Paige started typing on her phone. "Brainwave?" Sonya asked.
"Yeah, just googling the song from the kiss at the end of The Office."
"What song?"
"Oh, I mean the British version."
"I haven't seen it." Sonya said, unsure how that would go down, but it just made Paige laugh.
"Then I know what we're watching soon. I mean, the American one is great, but you need to see where it came from. Aha, found it." Paige said, holding the screen to Sonya so she could see the name of the song - 'Only You'. Sonya melted onto Paige as she got ready. A screen tap later and the song started playing.
"Electronic music is romantic?" Sonya whispered as the opening bars played.
"Give it a chance." Paige said as she led their dance. The vocals did the trick and Sonya lost herself in it. Paige began kissing her in the second verse and the dancing got slower. Sonya got lost in her feelings that were going off in her brain. She was reminded from the kiss that no matter what people knew about them, that all that mattered was how Paige felt.
As they continued dancing, and kissing, Sonya also knew how she was feeling about Paige. There was something about dancing together that did something to her. If she was anyone else, she'd be telling her that it's too soon to be feeling like this. That this level of emotion doesn't develop only one week into a new relationship. But it had also been bubbling in her for months. She'd been in this since last year.
All these thoughts were momentarily jumbled when the kiss ended and Paige dipped Sonya down, making them both laugh for a split second, before looking into each other's eyes.
"I didn't think I'd be this happy again." Paige whispered.
"I..." Sonya stopped herself from saying what she was thinking. She knew that saying those three words, true or not, could have scared Paige out of the room to say the least. Luckily, she hadn't given anything away, but Paige was waiting for her to complete her sentence, so he had to think quickly. "I feel so lucky. I never thought this would happen." When she saw a tear in her girlfriends eye as she was picked back up, she knew she hadn't messed things up, and she was relieved. She just continued dancing till the song ended.
Real life for their new relationship didn't start till they flew home in a couple of days, but at that moment, time stood still.
A.N.: Thanks for reading, and to everyone who left a review, a follow or favourite.
This was a big week, a lot to cover, but the story will jump some time for the next chapter, a few weeks, to the UK tour that traditionally follows Wrestlemania for a few weeks. It will mean Paige has to make an important decision. I hope to see you there.
