The Deville You Know Ch17
The next month went by smoother than Sonya or Paige could have hoped for. Nobody batted an eyelid when they started sharing a hotel room on the road. Most assumed that it was done because Mandy had started travelling and sharing a room with Finn, but in reality she asked him to do that when Sonya said she wanted to spend the nights with Paige. They would spend the nights together in their room, fooling around whenever their match that night didn't completely drain them, but every time things got too hot, Paige threw water on it. Outside of the room, only those who already knew they were together could tell.
When they were off the road, it was a similar story, they spent one or two days apart, taking care of their own business, running errands, doing laundry, ready for the next road trip. One would then travel to the others house, they'd have a date night, sometimes met up with other friends, before flying out to the next show.
It was the morning they were to fly, due in Rhode Island that evening for shows up in the North East, before the UK and Europe tour was due to begin. Paige had brought an extra suitcase to Sonya's and was excited to be able to bring the title belt home to perform in front of a home crowd for the first time in a long time.
Sonya woke up, stretched, and relaxed back into her bed. She reached for her girlfriend, but couldn't find her by touch alone. Grunting, she turned on her side to see Paige was perched on the edge of the bed, looking straight at her. Sonya was suddenly aware of the smell of coffee that took over the room.
"Mmm. That smells good." Sonya said through a yawn. She forced herself more upright.
"Good job I made you one too then." Paige said, handing the cup off. "It's taken me weeks to get your coffee maker to produce something drinkable. I might have to buy you a new one."
"It's fine, you just can't use it right." Sonya tried her coffee, not loving it, but also not prepared to back down. "This is fine, you're talking garbage."
"Garbage is where that machine belongs." Paige replied, knew what her girlfriend was doing, so she decided to keep stirring the pot. "I'm not going to Starbucks every time I stay here."
"Learn to use the machine better then. If you need me to teach you how to make coffee, just ask."
"Cheeky cow. I'm throwing it out the window right now for that one." Paige found she couldn't go far, as Sonya had just managed to grab her wrist. Paige tugged on the grip a few times, pulling Sonya across the bed a little.
"Nope. Not going anywhere. You come here." Sonya pulled back.
Paige stopped pulling, and Sonya did the same, but didn't release her hold on Paige's wrist. Paige looked back and sighed, before laughing. Sonya watched her laugh, saw the smile that stayed and felt herself melt. She hated how gooey Paige made her feel, it wasn't her, but at the same time she knew that she hadn't felt that way about anyone before, and that couldn't be a bad thing. She gave one final tug and pulled Paige back to the bed, and on top of her, since she had slid across to her side of the bed.
"Was this the plan all along?" Paige asked jokingly, trying to brush her hair back behind her ear.
"No, of course not, it's just, you know, things work out sometimes." Was Sonya's attempt at innocence.
"Yeah, total accident, that's why you have your hands locked around me." Paige gently tried to push away, but wasn't going anywhere.
"Totally. If I wanted to do something, I'd do this." Sonya said, rolling them over so she now had the dominant position.
Paige started laughing for a second before they stopped and looked into each other's eyes for a moment. Sonya couldn't stop herself and went in for a kiss. She found Paige more than willing to receive it, and she felt pair of hands on her back as they continued. As she felt her girlfriends hands begin to caress her body, she thought that was a sign that she could make a move, that she could try and take things further than they had been before. She reached for Paige's leg and heard her moan as she stroked it.
Before she moved her hand up towards her pyjama shorts, she heard her phone ring.
"You gotta be kidding me." Sonya thought. She decided to ignore it, but Paige now blocked her.
"It might be important." The British girl said, looking up to where Sonya's phone was in a stand on her bedside table. She read out the name on the screen. "Uh, it's Hunter."
Sonya tried to push down her frustration. She rolled off and grabbed her phone. Paige got up and went to her case to find something. She wasn't trying to listen but heard all on Sonya's side of the call.
"Hello?"
"Yeah, I'm great, how are you?"
"Right."
"I'm not? How come?"
"Really?"
"Well yeah, I mean, of course."
"That's very generous, thanks."
"Ok, I'll look out for it."
"See you soon. Bye."
"You're about to get a call." Sonya said as soon as she hung up the phone.
"Whats going on?" Was the unsurprising reply.
"Just wait." Sonya said with a smile.
Several minutes later, when Paige's phone still hadn't rung, both women were confused.
"Can you just tell me?" Paige asked.
"Yeah, ok, I don't get what's taking so long. Hunter told me we are flying to the UK tonight, not going on the house shows this weekend, and taping something for TV. He doesn't know what yet."
"Wow. How come?"
"Hunter wants us doing media over there before the tour, well, you specifically I'd bet, but they thought us being there too would be good for appearances."
Sonya said, as Paige's phone roared into life. Sonya watched as Paige had effectively the same phone call she did.
"Ok cool. England here we come." Paige said when she was done.
"Pretty cool that they are flying us first class though." Sonya said, excited at the prospect.
"Yeah, he said it's for the inconvenience. I mean, we need to be at the airport in two hours." Paige pointed out.
"Good thing we are mostly packed, just need a few extras. Oh yeah, I better call Mandy." Sonya retrieved her hone and made the call. After a couple of exchanges, Sonya looked unhappy and left the room. Paige didn't hear much after that as she received the details of their commitments over the weekend. As she read through she had a realisation as Sonya returned.
"Mandy isn't coming." Sonya said, disappointment in her voice.
"She's not? Why?"
"She said she's got obligations this weekend, and she can't miss them. She's going to stay on the house show tour and join us with the rest of them next week?"
"Wait, if she's got obligations, how come you don't?" Paige raised an eyebrow.
"Because she doesn't. Even if it were a personal one, I'm sure I'd know. She's been my best friend too long. She knows everything about me, and I thought I knew everything about her..." Sonya trailed off, realising that she was either wrong about how close she was with Mandy, or she was being lied to. She sat down on the bed, looking upset.
"Babe, I'm sorry. I wish I could do something, and if you want to talk about it, I'm here for you. But we have to move while we do. We got to go to my place so I can grab some extra clothes, and get to the airport." Paige put her arm on Sonya's shoulder, trying to be comforting.
"I know." Sonya reached to squeeze the hand on her shoulder before going to her dresser and grabbing what she needed. They then locked the house up and drove to Paige's to do the same and made the airport in fairly good time, although it helped that they had their own check in line for first class.
Sonya didn't say much as they got coffee while waiting for their flight to get called, or once they boarded, but once they took off, it just came out of nowhere.
"I don't get what her issue is. I know that she was pissed that I didn't text her after we got together, but surely she's over that, it's been a month, best month of my life by the way, I keep telling her how happy that makes me, when I've been such a drag on her until we got together. I've been trying to make it up to her, I mean, when I can, she's been spending more time with Finn, but that's ok, it's let me spend more time with you. And I love spending time with you, but why would she just blow us off. We all get on so well, and...mmmmph."
Paige reached over and clamped her hand over Sonya's mouth to stop the rambling, which had all come out at a near undecipherable speed.
"Sonya, calm down. We have more than seven hours till we get to England, but you will run out of oxygen in seven minutes if you keep that up." Paige waited until Sonya's breathing relaxed a little, but before she could moved her hand she felt Sonya's tongue tickle it.
"Oh gross!" Paige said as she pulled her hand away , but her laughter told a different story.
"It sucks. I know her, and something was up." Sonya said, now much more relaxed.
"Talk to her on the tour. I can be there, or not. It's up to you." Paige replied.
"Maybe, let's see how things go when we see her." Sonya said, relaxing her chair to get more rested.
"If it helps, I had counted on her being here too."
That comment Sonya sit back up. "How come?"
"There's something that I wanted to do, but with Mandy around you wouldn't be left on your own."
Sonya shook her head. "Ok, well I can come with you, or, and this might sound crazy, I'm a grown woman who can spend a little time on her own in a populated city."
"I just didn't want you to think I was abandoning you. I don't get to see my family too often obviously and...
"You're going to see your family?" Sonya interrupted, her brain exploding into life.
"I was going to, and I don't want you to think I don't want you to come, but I thought meeting my parents was a big jump after only a month officially together."
"A big ask of me? Honey, have you told your parents anything about us?" Sonya asked, taking her girlfriends arm to show she wasn't being demanding. Paige shook her head, telling Sonya what she already knew. "Exactly, so showing up at their door with my tongue down your throat isn't a good idea."
"Thanks for understanding Son. You're really good to me." Paige said, looking down.
"That's what I'm here for. But let me float an idea."
"Ok?" Paige looked intrigued.
"Your parents know who I am, but not who I am to you, right?"
"Yeah, as far being working together, they watch Raw and everything."
So, if you asked if you could bring your friend so she's not alone in London, that's not too obscure, is it?"
"I guess not." Paige said, catching on to Sonya's big idea. "But are you sure it's not a bit soon for you to meet my parents?"
"I'm not, not like that. But you won't get to see them till what, November possibly?"
"Assuming I'm on the tour, that's probably right, which still sucks, by the way."
"I know it does. So why not see how well we get on? It would make telling them in November easier, or next year if you really want. If they like me, it could make it easier for you. And you have to be ready in case the cat gets out of the bag. That way at least they met me."
"And what if they don't like you?" Paige said, half teasing, half serious.
"You don't think they will? I'm delightful." Sonya replied, suddenly attempting an over the top attempt at an English accent that made Paige laugh.
"That's way too posh for my family. Dial it back just a bit maybe." Paige said when she stopped.
"So, does that mean you're ok with the idea?"
"I don't want to lie to them, but it might be better than blindsiding them about us. I'll have to check that they are ok with any guest once we land, but if they are, I'd love you to come."
"Thanks Pai, I didn't want to say in case you didn't agree, but this means a lot to me."
"Really?" The Brit was surprised.
"Yeah, it's a big step forward in our relationship, even if they don't know the truth. And it shows me how much I mean to you."
"You don't know?" Paige said, a bit hurt.
"Of course I do, but after the false starts, nearly breaking up before we got together, which I think is pretty impressive, but that's another story. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, you're not the only one who gets nervous about us."
"Nervous? I don't..." Paige stopped talking at the knowing look she was getting. "Ok, I do. You know why, but I promise I want this to work."
Sonya got closer to her girlfriend, leaning her head on Paige's shoulder. "And that's why we will. That, and the fact you let me sleep on your shoulder on long flights." She said in hope.
"Are you serious? You're just going to lie on my shoulder for 6 hours?" Paige said, getting no verbal response, and forms her angle, she couldn't see the content smirk on Sonya's face. "Fine." She said eventually. "Two can play that game." She got herself as comfortable as she could and leant her own right back onto Sonya's. "How do you like it huh?" She asked, far from serious.
Sonya didn't stop smirking till she fell asleep, but she did slip her hand into Paige's. The two slept for several hours on the overnight flight, and felt a little less like death when they got off the plane, helped by a surprisingly short wait at baggage claim. The media appointments were all made and completed for that day and both were glad there weren't too many, with most scheduled for Monday before Raw.
"Right, I better give Mum a call. Make sure she's ok with company. Like she'd say no." Paige scoffed as she dialled her phone and walked away. Sonya watched her talk, not being able to hear either side this time. When Paige returned she looked concerned.
"What's wrong?" Sonya asked.
"Well, Mum said that you're more than welcome to join us, but she isn't sure you'd want to stay over."
"Why not?"
"They got new couches, two seater ones so they aren't big enough to sleep on. She would mean that you would have to stay in my room, you know, with me. Terrible huh?"
"Oh no, really? Well, I'll have to find a way to cope. Good job you're hot."
Paige laughed "She then accused me of snoring and kicking in my sleep. At least that's not true." Her joke was met with silence. "Right?"
"Good job you're hot?" Was the response, but the smirk was back.
"Keep it up, you won't sleep with me at all." Paige only realised what she said when it was too late. "I mean."
"Honey, I know what you mean, so stop digging a hole. Let's go. How long a drive is it?"
"About 2 hours from here. I'd guess." They got into their rental car and headed off. The estimate was a bit under thanks to traffic, but when it became clear that they were close, Sonya could feel herself getting tense.
"Maybe this was a bad idea." She said, as Paige parked the car.
"It isn't. You're right, I want you to all get on, and this is a perfect way to ease you in."
"Ease me in? What if they don't like me?"
"They'll love you. It's what you think of them that is more concerning." Paige laughed, which helped with Sonya's nerves.
"I guess it's a bit late to think that way anyway." Sonya thought out loud. Paige had a good look around her area and the reached for Sonya's hand, giving it a squeeze. "It is, and I'm not good at being the confident one in this relationship right now, so are you ready?"
"As I'll ever be." Sonya replied, her nervous excitement boiling over inside as Paige knocked on the door.
A.N.: Thanks for reading.
For all her bravado in wanting to go, Sonya is feeling the nerves when the moment of truth has arrived. How do you think it will go with Paige's family, who have no idea about the truth of their relationship?
