The Deville You Know Ch18
"Princess!" Was the call as a large man stepped out of the door way and Sonya could have sworn that she heard a high pitched squeak come from her girlfriend as she was enclosed in a huge hug.
"Hi...Dad..." Paige said as she tried to hug back, and find her breath.
"Rick, let go of the poor girl before you break her ribs." Came another voice from behind him. Paige was released from one hug but went straight into another, although not nearly as strong.
"Hi mum, it's so good to see you, but it's late, and really cold. Can we take this inside?" Paige said to Sonya's relief, she was not liking the cold English night.
The request was silently granted and the four of them moved into the house, Paige and Sonya bringing their bags in.
"So, Mum, Dad, this is my…. friend Sonya." Paige made the introduction as casual as she could. Sonya however, wanted to make as good as impression as she could, as one day she wanted to be accepted as more than Paige's friend.
"Mr Knight, Mrs Knight, it's really a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for letting me spend the night here." She said as politely as she could muster, offering a handshake, but she got no response to that offer, and she realised that both of them were looking at her with disgusted looks on their faces.
"Excuse me? Who do think you are exactly?" Her father said.
"And who the f*** are Mr and Mrs Knight?" Her mother followed immediately after.
Sonya felt like a deer in headlights. She looked from one of her hosts to another and back again. She then turned to Paige, only to find she was hiding her face. Sonya realised that she was laughing, and that she was being made fun of. She put her head in her hands, embarrassed as laughter rang out around her.
"Listen girl, I'm Ricky, and my wife is Julia. Let's not hear any of this Mr or Mrs bollocks anymore, ok?" This time Ricky offered the handshake, and Sonya accepted with great relief.
"Oh look at her, she's gone bright red." Julia then stepped forward and hugged Sonya, who let out the breath she had been holding in, feeling relieved that things hadn't gone as wrong as she thought, but had no idea what to do now. "I'm sorry Sonya, I don't know what you must be thinking, but when you got all proper on us, we just couldn't help ourselves." Her mother continued, as Sonya stayed silent.
"Mum, any chance of a cup of tea? It's been a long day." Paige realised the joke was over, but Sonya was still feeling awkward.
"Of course. Sonya, are you a tea drinker?"
"Uh yeah, not often, but yes, please." Sonya stuttered.
"With sugar?"
"Not for me,thank you." Sonya said. Paige's parents went to the kitchen and returned with hot tea for all of them. They talked about the flights and the day they all had while they drank, and the tension Sonya felt slowly faded as they talked.
"Right, it's pretty late, so I think it's time for bed." Paige said when all the drinks were gone.
"You're right. Your room is ready, still just how you left it."
"Thanks mum. Goodnight." Paige kissed her parents and headed for the stairs.
Sonya started to follow when Julia called after them. "Sonya are you sure that you are ok to share the bed with her? I can make up the sofa."
"Yeah, the way she snores you might want to rethink." Ricky laughed.
"Dad!" Paige exclaimed.
"No it's ok, thanks. She doesn't really snore that much." Sonya realised what she said and knew she had messed up. "I mean, erm, when she sleeps in the car after shows, she doesn't make a lot of noise, so we don't really notice, you know, when driving."
"Come on Sonya, they get it. Let's go." Paige nearly pulled her girlfriend up the stairs.
"Oh my god, oh my god. I can't believe I said that, I'm so so so sorry." Sonya spoke softly, but at speed when they were safely behind the closed bedroom door.
"Babe, you have to chill. They have been in the business for longer than we have been alive, they know we would have likely slept in the same car, or shared hotel rooms."
"So what will they be thinking now?" Sonya asked.
"They probably just think you're weird." Paige said with a smile.
"Don't make fun of me, if you are, I have gotten everything so wrong so far." Sonya said, sitting on the bed. Paige sat next to her.
"If they do think you're weird. This is a good thing. If you were normal, they probably wouldn't like you, and neither would I." Paige shuffled up close to Sonya and put her arm around Sonya's shoulders.
"Thanks Paige, I kinda needed to hear that right now." Sonya looked at her with a much happier look on her face.
"Good. Tomorrow just relax and go with the flow. Chilled day before we go back to the grind Monday." Paige said. Sonya went to respond but was distracted when Paige took her shirt off, quickly replacing it with a pyjama top. Paige turned slightly as she unbuttoned her pants, but stopped when she noticed the reaction. "Uh, Sonya, you ok? You freeze up again?"
Sonya snapped herself out of it. "No, definitely not frozen, quite the opposite really."
Paige got what she was saying right away, realising she was about to take her pants off. "Well you better cool off, or I'll be forced to throw cold water on you." She said jokingly.
"Wouldn't work, you're far too hot." Sonya replied slyly.
Paige's jaw dropped. "Shhhh! Oh my god, you can't say that sort of thing, these walls are so thin you can hear anything."
"Ok, ok." Sonya held up her hands in surrender.
"See, this you they'll love. Be like this tomorrow, just maybe not as forward?" Paige suggested to a nodding reply.
"Sure. Anything for you." She said, and this time she got a reaction she hoped for as she saw Paige smile sweetly. She then got an even better view as Paige bent over, now removing her pants. The view of her girlfriends butt in a tiny black thong was nearly more than Sonya could take. Paige often changed in the bathroom or while she was out of the room. She hadn't made a big point of it, but as she felt her hormones and desires kick into over drive, she took a deep breath, knowing that she made a promise not to put any pressure onto Paige, and that this relationship was more important to her than one night rolling around in bed. Especially a bed in her parents house. But what she hadn't noticed while all these thoughts were in her head was that she had been caught staring once again, despite what she'd already been told.
"Sorry, I can't help myself sometimes." Sonya said, as bashfully as she could.
"I don't know why I thought you'd do anything else. You know I don't mind you staring." Paige said, as she tied her pyjama shorts. "I mean, you should want to stare at me, and I kind of enjoy it." Her tone got flirty as she walked up close to Sonya. She kissed her gently on the lips. "But that's it for tonight ok? There's no lock on the door and I can pretty much guarantee my mum will walk in early tomorrow no matter what, and I don't want her to catch us."
"Ok, but one more." Sonya said, kissing Paige before she had the chance to object, and immediately deepening it, putting all her feelings into it. Paige cupped Sonya's face in her hands and both moaned as they shared a moment of intimacy. It had to be just a moment, as the got into bed. Sonya fought off her urge to cuddle up the way she normally would as the light went out.
Minutes later, she heard Paige moving about, soft impacts on the mattress at first, then her hand feeling around her body until she found Sonyas arm. Paige traced it down to find her hand and then intertwined their fingers. She pulled Sonyas hand over so it was resting on Paige's body, and she clearly didn't plan to let go.
"You sure?" Sonya asked.
"No, so don't pull the covers off. I just, I don't like not sleeping with you wrapped around me." Paige said sleepily. Both women were asleep shortly after, both with smiles on their faces.
Paige's guess that her mother would walk into her bedroom early the next morning without knocking was accurate. Luckily they were both awake and Paige was already nearly dressed, with Sonya under the bed covers.
"Mum!" Paige exclaimed. "A little privacy maybe?"
"Oh come on girl." Her mother scoffed. "None of us have anything the others haven't seen. And you two share a locker room, can't be that weird dressing in front of each other."
Sonya pulled the cover over her head in a mix of embarrassment and how weird the comment was. Paige went red in the face. "That doesn't matter. Can you just get out please?"
"Fine, but breakfast is nearly ready so you better hurry up." Julia turned and left, prompting Sonya to come out of hiding.
"Sorry." Paige said. "She's tactless, but she means well."
Sonya laughed, getting out of the bed. "It's ok, parents are supposed to embarrass their kids. You didn't think that you'd get away with that did you?"
"I hoped?" Paige shrugged. "I hoped that they might save that till they know more about you, and you know, us. Now I'm afraid the table will be covered in my baby pictures."
Sonya suddenly starting getting changed at speed. "Oh I hope so. I bet baby Paige is sooo cute."
"Stop it."
"No chance. And I can smell bacon too. Nothing is keeping me up here."
Paige had an idea of what to say to her in response that would have probably worked, but bit her tongue. Sonya tied her hair up and headed downstairs.
"Man, everything smells so good. You're a great cook, Mrs...I mean Julia." Sonya cursed herself for forgetting what she was told.
"Thank you Sonya, I know that you two are on a permanent diet, especially with Paige being champion, but I only see my girl a few times a year, so you both better prepare to feel fat for a day."
"I think I'm due a cheat day," Sonya said as Paige joined them in the kitchen, Her father having eaten and retired to an armchair, watching highlights of a soccer match.
"You done those eggs I like Mum?" Paige said as she sat down.
"Of course Princess, a champions breakfast, although it's practically lunchtime. You two are both heavy sleepers. Now eat up." She put down plates of bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, sausages and baked beans, with far more toast than anyone could eat. Not that it didn't stop the two women trying to clear the entire serving.
"It's true, there really isn't anything like home cooking." Paige said when she finally gave in. "I've never found anything better."
"And I've never seen anyone who can out eat you. But Sonya, you look like I didn't make enough."
"Oh no, I couldn't eat more, but it was all so good. I feel like I could fall asleep again.
"Mums food coma. It's a common feeling. I bet Dads barely awake even with the TV going." Paige slowly walked to the doorway to check, but didn't get the chance to find out if she was right, as the front door opened and the sound of chanting rang out, loudly.
"We are Norwich City and we will sing on our own!"
"Come on you Yellows!"
"Mum! You didn't tell me they were coming round!" Paige said in a near shriek.
"I didn't know for sure, I thought they would be busy, guess you are more popular than you think.
"There she is!" Two men grabbed Paige by the waist and held her on their shoulders, bouncing her up and down."
"Put me down you bastards!" Paige shouted through her laughter. Her request was granted but she was then squashed by a huge hug from both.
"So good to see you sis!" One said.
"Sis?" Sonya said, immediately a little nervous. Paige suddenly remembered Sonya was there, caught up in the sudden attack.
"Oh, sorry. Guys, this is Sonya. Son, this is Zak and Roy, my brothers."
"We know who she is Sis, I know you think we are Neanderthals who live in the boozer and don't own a tv, but we do watch Raw." Roy feigned a defensive attitude.
"Hah. If there was football on all the time, you'd never leave the pub!" Their Dad shouted out.
Well, that is one reason why we popped round, we thought you all might want to join us down the local." Zak said, making his brother facepalm.
"Ok maybe we do live there half the time. But we didn't know you had company with you. Not sure a Canaries game would interest a Yank. No offence." Roy looked towards Sonya.
"What is going on? Who are the Canaries?" Sonya asked.
"Oh Paige, teach her some proper sport will you? The Canaries, the best football team on the planet. Playing at lunchtime today and you should come watch us thrash the bloody Gooners!" Zak was getting very enthusiastic.
"Ok, not much clearer, but it sounds like fun, I think?" Sonya tried to match the enthusiasm, but came across as confused as she really was.
"Its a football, or soccer game. Norwich vs Arsenal. We don't have to go watch in the pub with them if you don't want."
"No, it really does sound like fun. I don't really know anything about soccer though, is that ok?" Sonya asked.
"It is as long as you don't call it 'soccer' in the pub." Roy mocked Sonya's American accent. "You might get something thrown at you. It's called 'football' ok?"
"Ok, I'll try. So, go Canaries, right!" Sonya tried to fit in as best she could.
"Damn right, now get your coats, let's go!"
"The pub wasn't all that far away, which helped as the wind was keeping the temperature down and Sonya felt it's bite.
It wasn't a big place, fairly full of people, almost all of them decked out decked out in yellow and green. Roy and Zak greeted a couple while the rest got a table where they could see one of the two big screens that was showing the pre game. Drinks were purchased and once the game kicked off, everyone got quiet and the sound of the game took over, except when one fan or another shouted out.
Paige was fixed on the game, really enjoying having everyone in her life who really mattered to her in one place together, having a good time. She could say that because she kept looking out of the corner of her eye and saw that Sonya was glued to the tv.
It was true, but Sonya was watching intently to make sure that she understood what was going on. About thirty minutes in, Arsenal, rearing red, scored a goal. She knew not to react to it, letting all around her yell out at their team, their opponents, and even the officials. That goal was the difference at halftime and the mood was low.
"Useless shambles." Zak moaned.
"He was offside. Shouldn't have been allowed." Ricky tried to commiserate with his son.
"Wait, it's not over is it?" Sonya asked. They took her more seriously than she meant.
"No, it's only halftime. They play another 45 minutes." Zak was slightly condescending in his tone.
"Exactly. So it's not over. Why can't they go out and score themselves?"
"You can tell this is your first game. Far too much confidence." Roy shook his head."
Sonya kept pushing. "If you are so down on them, why even come and watch?"
Nobody could answer for a moment before Julia started laughing. "It's blind faith love, live and die with the team."
"Just need them to do more living and less dying on their arse." Zak said, still grumpy as the players returned to the field. The second half was more of the same, but no more goals were scored as the time ticked away. It was with less than two minutes to go that a corner kick for the home team was headed into the corner of the goal.
"Yes!" Sonya jumped to her feet along with most of the fans in the establishment, and found herself suddenly sandwiched between Paige's two brothers, whose misery had immediately been replaced with pure joy. The two of them hugged her, lifting her up and spinning around while singing. They didn't miss anything in the game as the official called an end to it only moments later. Sonya couldn't stop laughing as she was beginning to feel dizzy. Paige couldn't resist grabbing her phone and recording her girlfriend having fun with her family. Partly because it was hilarious, and something to embarrass her with later, but mostly because seeing them bond was making her heart happy. She couldn't have asked for the day to go better.
When they got back to the house, Paige's brothers said their goodbyes, threatening to grab Sonya again, but she claimed that she was still recovering from the last one. They hugged her, along with their sister and made their exit.
"I better go sort my bags. We will have to hit the road soon ourselves." Sonya said to Paige, heading upstairs.
"It's been so good to see you Princess, do you have to go so soon?" Julia asked.
"Yeah, she's right, we have to be at the hotel the night before, then they've got us doing more appearances before the show, then we head into Europe on Tuesday. I forgot how killer the tours are."
"Well I'm glad you got the time to come here." We have had a great time with you, and Sonya of course."
Paige couldn't stop herself asking. "Mom, what do you think of Sonya?"
"Oh she's a delight. She got on so well with the boys. Think maybe they made a football fan out of her." They both laughed at that, remembering the scenes earlier. "But she was such a hit with them, if they weren't both married I think one of them might be making a play for her."
Paige was surprised by this. "Uh, mom, you do remember that Sonya isn't into guys, right?"
Her mother seemed taken back by this. "Oh right, of course. She came out on the show you judged. I guess setting her up with one of my kids isn't going to work out." She laughed again, and Paige tried to join in, but inside she was torn, she didn't want to lie to her mother, even though she was still struggling to admit the truth. Despite all of the conflicting thoughts, she knew what the right thing to do was, for all of them.
"Well, what if one of them could be with her?" She asked.
"Paige, your brothers are both happily married."
"I didn't mean them."
"Then who?"
"I meant, well, what if there was something between me and her?"
The look on Julia's face wasn't one of understanding to say the least. "What on earth are you on about? You don't date women, I've met several of your boyfriends over the years."
Paige took a deep breath before talking. "Mum, listen, things have changed, ok? Something happened between me and Sonya, and after everything that happened over the last year or so, I'm not the same person anymore. I'm, well, I'm..." She trailed off before she could, finish her sentence, looking to her mother in hope that she understood what was trying to be put across to her.
"What do you mean, 'something happened between me and Sonya?'" The unhappy look that faced her didn't fill Paige with much hope, but she had to carry on.
"Mom, look. Sonya and I, well, we are sort of together."
"Sort of? There's no such thing. Are you or aren't you?"
Sonya appeared on the staircase as Paige answered. "We are. It's been six weeks, and although it's hard to tell you, I didn't want you not to know. Sonya is my girlfriend."
Sonya was thrilled at hearing Paige say that to someone else, but her heartwarming moment was cut short when her mother put her fingers to her head, clearly struggling to take in this news. Just as quickly, Julia removed them and stared a hole through her daughter.
"Are you out of your mind? What the hell is wrong with you?"
A.N.: Thanks for reading.
It was all going so found the confidence to tell the person she is closest to, but it seems to have blown up in her face. How badly will it go, and how will it affect any of them? Let me know what you think.
