The Deville You Know Ch20
Sonya didn't have to go too far into the woods before she caught sight of her missing partner. She had found a log and was sat on it with her hands on her head, slightly hunched over. Sonya couldn't sneak up on Paige with all the branches breaking underfoot but she still didn't announce her arrival, just sitting down on the log as well. Without a word she put an arm around Paige and pulled her close. It had the desired effect when Paige moved her head from her own hands to Sonya's shoulder, trying to hide her face by burying it in Sonya's neck. They didn't speak for a little while until Paige mumbled something incomprehensible.
"I can't understand you honey." Sonya whispered back, but into Paige's ear, having a far better better angle to talk.
"I'm sorry I'm so useless." Paige said, louder and easier to hear, but her embarrassment was just as clear.
"You aren't useless. You're just all over the place, and if you weren't after all that then I would really be worried."
This made Paige sit up and look at Sonya. "So I drove like an idiot, tried to rip your clothes off in the front seat of a small car, ran off and you weren't worried?"
"No, because what caused all of that was you defending me to your family. More to the point, defending us."
"Why wouldn't I defend us?" Paige looked confused still.
"You could have let your mom change your mind about being with me. But you didn't. You had every right to be upset, but you don't need to prove anything to me by trying to sleep with me in the middle of…..wherever we are. I told you we would wait till you're ready, and I meant it. If I had led you on and we did it, you could have hated me for it."
"It's not how I wanted our first time to be, but I thought I needed to show you that I really care about you." Paige admitted.
"You don't. I know, and if I didn't before, I would have by the time we left their house. But I don't want either of us to dwell on that. It happened and we can't change it. Is that ok with you?"
Paige stayed silent for a moment, contemplating it all. "Yeah, I'm not going to go crawling back. She needs to understand this is me now, and that I'm with you." Paige gripped Sonya's hand and looked in her eyes, like she felt that she needed to make sure Sonya knew she was being sincere. Sonya covered her hand with her other one, holding it tight, and gave her a peck on the lips. "I've said it before, and I'll say it often. Damn right you are." This made Paige laugh, which Sonya saw as the right moment to make their leave. "Come on." She said, standing and pulling Paige with her. She doesn't get much movement, actually finding so much resistance she was pulled back down to the log.
"There's something else I need to say to you, while I have the courage." Sonya didn't know what to say to that, so silently gestured to her to continue.
"I know I didn't exactly express myself well in the car, and I'm really glad you stopped me, but it doesn't change the fact, that well…" Paige put her hand to her head. "Man I feel like a teenager again, but I need you to know that, I'm feel like I'm ready."
Sonya got her meaning right away, because it was what she'd be longing to hear, but she kept her cool. "Ready? You're sure?"
"What, you want me to change my mind?" Paige teased, happy the tension was lifting.
"No chance, I've been waiting for you to say that. If we were back home, I'd already be half undressed."
Paige looked her girlfriend up and down, her imagination triggered. "Well we aren't, and I think after this bad idea we should wait just a little longer, like you said, till we are back home?"
"Paige, that's over a week away. The rest of the tour, TV when we get back to the US, nine freaking days at least. If you were going to make me wait nine more days, you shouldn't have said anything." Sonya was ranting, but it was clear she wasn't serious. Paige got close and kissed her with more passion this time. "That's not helping either."
"Haha, don't pretend you don't love it." Paige paused, but luckily for Sonya, didn't leave enough of a gap for her to respond. "First night we get back to Florida is date night. Get dinner somewhere then go back and I promise I'm yours for the night."
"Fine, but only if we get takeout, and we go to my place." Sonya said.
"Why your place?" Paige asked.
"Because it's closer to the airport." Sonya said with a smirk.
"Ok fine." Paige couldn't help but smile as well. Then I pick where we get food, and I pick what we watch on tv."
"Netflix and chill. We all know what that really means."
Paige rolled her eyes playfully. "Chill is what you need to do right now. I get you're excited, but don't overhype this ok? It'll be my first time. I'm probably not all that good."
Sonya sensed the nervousness Paige was trying to explain away. "I'm sorry honey. I get this is new ground for you, but you don't have to be nervous. I promise I'll take care of you."
"I know you will. That's why I feel ready. I trust you." Sonya felt on top of the world hearing that. She didn't want to say any more. She stood up, and offered her hand. Paige took it, and they walked hand in hand back to the car, and they would have stayed that way all the way to the arena, several hours away, if it wasn't necessary for Paige to shift gears all the way. Sonya cursed British cars in her mind.
They pulled up to the arena with plenty of time to spare, but they found a lot of their co workers already there, to their surprise as there was a lot of places to see on overseas tours.
"I'm going to find Mandy." Sonya said to Paige making a subtle kissing motion at her as she walked away. Paige could feel herself blushing, so quickly walked the other way towards the production office to find out what was in store for her on the show, she hoped for something good in front of her home fans.
Sonya found Mandy in the locker room, getting her ring gear out of her case.
"Hi, so we got a match tonight?"
"Yeah, tag match, getting the win thanks to Paige distracting the ref, we gotta meet with them and go over it in a minute or two." Mandy said, but the off tone in her voice was easy to spot.
"Great, we lost too many recently. But, are you ok?"
"Course I'm fine." The lack of emotion gave her away still.
"Then tell me why you didn't come with us last week. Not that it hasn't been amazing, I've got so much to tell you."
"Of course, more from your new perfect relationship." Mandy snapped, but the look on her face showed she regretted it.
"What the hell was that?" Sonya asked.
"Look I'm sorry, really. Tell me what happened." Mandy tried to deflect.
"No way, something has been going on with you for a while now. You've snapped at nearly anything I've tried to tell you about me and….you know who." Sonya realised there were a lot of ears that could hear something they shouldn't. She grabbed Mandy's hand and took them out of the locker room and down a corridor where nobody was.
"Mandy, do you have a problem with me dating Paige? You seemed so happy for us when we told you, but if that was all fake then we need to figure it out, you're still my best friend, and I want you to be happy for us."
"Of course I'm happy for you. You think I don't notice how you've been practically walking on air this last month or so?"
"Then what? It feels like you don't want to be around us sometimes. I know you aren't homophobic, you're happy we are together, so what is it?"
Mandy looked past Sonya, looking for a way to end this conversation. "It doesn't matter, now we better go get ready, we are up early on the show." She tried to get past but Sonya blocked the corridor. "No way. Just tell me, I wanted this to be us both happy finally. Maybe one day double dating, once Paige is comfortable going public. Me and her, you and F…..."
"Stop, just stop." The annoyance on Mandy's face was clearer and stronger now. Sonya realised where the issue was.
"It's Finn isn't it. Mandy, are you guys having troubles?" Sonya asked, getting her answer from a tear rolling down her friends cheek. She pulled Mandy into a hug. "Talk to me, what's happened?"
"I think, I, I think, I think….that he's cheating on me."
Now it was Sonya's turn to be angry. "He's cheating? On you? Is he crazy? I'm going to rip his balls off and send them back to Ireland. He's lucky, he won't have to travel so far to try and find them." Sonya went to march to the men's locker room, but Mandy pulled her back.
"Don't Sonya, I haven't been able to prove it yet."
"Fine. Tell me everything." Sonya said bluntly. She then heard about how Finn had gotten very distant and secretive, how she answered a phone to a Hispanic sounding woman but Finn grabbed it from her right away, and she saw that same phone light up with texts from the same name that flashed up on the phone on a regular basis.
"I'll admit it doesn't sound good." Sonya said at the end of the story. "But you don't know he's actually done anything with her that's is cheating. She could be a friend."
"She texts him more than you texted me before you met Chloe, if you can believe that."
"Ok, that's a lot, but the only way you will know for sure is if you catch them at something." Sonya said, gaining Mandy's interest.
"How?"
"We have to follow him when he goes out. See if they meet and what they do."
Mandy was in two minds. She wanted to know, but she didn't all at the same time. Sonya broke her thought train.
"I know that look. Don't even. We are doing this."
"We?"
"Of course we. You're my best friend. I'm not letting you do this alone."
"Thanks Sonya." Mandy was genuinely grateful. "One thing. How are we going to pull this off?
Sonya shrugged. "I have no idea."
After Paige had interfered on her team's behalf earlier in the night, she was forced to defend her title against Nia Jax later that night. She overcame the Irresistible Force by escaping the Samoan Drop and hitting the Paige Turner, a rare showing for that move. As they celebrated, the house lights went up, to show that the segment was over. Since it wasn't live, Paige took a little longer to appreciate the British fans, going round all of them at ringside, taking a couple of photos and giving out hi-fives a plenty. She made her way back down the aisle, but stopped when a sign took her attention. It had Union Jack flags all over, and read "We'll always love you Paige." As much as the sign meant, it was who was holding it that mattered. It was her mother, looking at her the way she had every day except the recent morning. With her brothers just behind. She raced over and hugged them, with it being fully reciprocated.
"I love you, my girl." Julia said to her, just able to be heard above the cheers.
"I love you too, but what about…" she looked to Sonya, in that moment not caring about the thousands around them, but not one picked out what they were saying.
"I will need to get used to it, but I'm not losing you from my life. Just as long as you are sure she makes you happy."
"She does. She really, really does." Paige beckoned Sonya and Mandy over. Sonya went first and got pulled into a hug of her own.
"I'm so sorry for what happened." Julia said.
"You were trying to protect her. But you never will need to protect her from me. I promise."
"I better not." Julia said jokingly. Mandy was then introduced by Paige, sharing a quick hug of her own before they went to the back. Mandy went off to shower while Paige had to sit down, doing so on a random crate backstage.
"That meant so much to me." Paige said. "I needed you two to be ok."
"We are, that's pretty clear. I told you, people aren't as heartless as you think. Some will be, but to hell with them." Sonya said, squeezing her hand discreetly.
"I know. Still, one step at a time. This is going well though, right?" Paige looked for reassurance still. Sonya found it heartwarming, and it was still progress. And there was more progress waiting for them.
The smile on Sonya's face was intoxicating as she quickly stroked Paige's cheek. "Really well. Better than I ever dreamed of. And just wait till I get you home."
A.N.: Thanks for reading.
Good news for Paige, her family seem willing to accept her choice, it would have been an impossible choice for her otherwise. And it will help them to take 'the next step' which is coming soon.
Is Finn cheating on Mandy? If so, who is it with? Let me know what you think.
