I finish brushing my teeth, and come out of the bathroom where Lily is still lying on the bed, legs spread in the position I had left her in.
'You know you're quite good at that' she says to me once she notices me return into the room.
'Not bad yourself' I reply with my mind fluttering back to the waves of pleasure I had just experienced. I put my bra back on, retrieving it from the place on the floor I had thrown it onto.
'They'd hate us you know' Lily says.
'Who?' I ask her.
'Aliens, who else?' she replies.
'Why do you think that?' I ask.
'You know, just cos we suck' she responds. 'Humans suck, interacting with them sucks, it'd be easier to interact with an alien, that I'm convinced of.'
'Humanity as a whole is pretty pathetic' I say. 'But there are exceptions, rare specimens who shine through among the rest of us.'
'Them' Lily says.
'What?' I ask.
'Them' she says again. 'You're an exception, but you said "us", implying you're not one of those exceptions, when in fact you are.
'Thanks Lil' I reply. 'That's really sweet.' I kiss her softly again.
I hear my phone buzz with the special tone that I've assigned when I get a notification from Dad. He's about the only one I'd stop a moment like that for.
'Something's wrong with Jean' I say. 'I have to go' Saying that, I rush to get dressed.

After that awkward interaction in the beginning of the flight, I try to keep to myself, but of course the chatterbox next to me just can't shut up.
'Why are you heading to America then?' he asks me.
'My crack dealer moved there, and I'm desperately following him for my next fix' I say, hoping to deter him.
But instead, he persists. 'Come on. We've got a long time next to each other. Tell the truth.'
'Fine' I say, biting. 'I'm part of a scholarship for students from schools in England to study in America.'
'Ooh' he says. 'You must be pretty knowledgeable then.'
'Yeah' I say, and at once make my intentions know by putting my headphones on and ignoring him. To pass the time I decide to text Otis messages that'll send when I land.
'Alone, how could you leave me? Deserted by the man I love, my heart destroyed by this betrayal. How could you?' reads the first message.
'This'll be fun' I think and start composing the second message. I don't click send though as I fall into a slumber, and Otis appears once again in my dreams.
