Chapter 04

Familiarising and a Vote

Ace had spent time looking for the Wand in the School. Reasoning that the Fairy Godmother would not want to be too far from her Wand even if they had supposedly 'retired' magic altogether. Though he paid no heed to that, magic is a fundamental fact of life, as well as a biological reality in a world of literal Gods and fairies you could retire magic like you could retire gravity it was an impossibility as it is a fundamental force of the universe immutable and as such even if it wasn't being used still existed.

The Library was his first stop off, on the Isle knowledge is Power, and as such, is kept under lock and key. That was not so on the mainland, they had this vast book repository, and the only thing in the 'Library' was books, no artefacts, no reliquaries no items at all that could have held any reliable power. But on the plus side, he found a brochure on the Museum where such artefacts are stored.

Smiling slightly to himself, he made his way back to the dorm rooms. He would need to speak with Mal as soon as possible. As he made his way into the wing, he saw the Knuckleheads door slowly closing; apparently, Mal and Evie had already entered the room.

They were sitting at a round table where Mal was trying and apparently failing to get Jay to understand the seriousness of the mission they were on. He was more concerned with the high score on the game he had found.

Ace moved quickly to get to the door before they talked anymore. They had forgotten to secure themselves in the room before planning. Ace took that as a sign that Mal was just as frustrated with the mainlanders as he was, so he sped up to close the door before they were caught panning something.

The sudden resounding thump of his hand clutching the door made the four jump. Jay tossed Carlos the game controls and tried to cover his loot with his own body, and what appeared to be a yellow handkerchief, Carlos startled by the noise and catching the controls crashed the game and fell onto his back.

"Did you get the silverware too Jay." asked Ace as he closed the heavy wooden door. The teen in question, looked slightly embarrassed at being caught. "anyway, while you were appropriating all of this useless junk." Ace pulled out the brochure from a concealed pocket inside his cloak. "I have discovered the location of the Wand, you know, our objective for being here." He handed Mal the brochure who gave it to Carlos, who gave the paper a quick look over before indicating to Jay to hand him the computer he had stolen.

"its 2.3 miles from here according to this." He said, showing the full blueprint layout of the museum "it's on the second floor."

"security?" asked Ace. He tried to mask his astonished surprise at the skinners' son's ability with technology and his quick information gathering.

"ten guards but there's a change over at midnight, at that point, there will be only one guard on duty." The five nodded as they glanced at Mal before Mal spoke up

"We can do this quick and easy now, or we could spend some time laying out a plan of attack."

"I say now," said Jay, his impatient streak would be his undoing, and he didn't even know it thought Ace.

"now" agreed Evie, she wanted to be done with this fast so she could get back to her schemes.

"Later, I think a plan should be made, and contingencies created" replied Ace, Carlos nodded in agreement. "we also need a proper exit strategy in case of success or failure." Mal would be the tiebreaker. She mulled over the options for a few moments before she answered.

"we'll go now," she said definitively, Ace rolled his eyes in exasperation. Sometimes he wondered where she got her lack of plotting skills. "Better to try now even if we only get a lay of the land before a proper raid can be organised."

Ace nodded before going back to his room to change, and maybe find a grappling hook.
