Chapter 08

A talk with the Fairy Godmother.

The Fairy Godmother leads Ace out of the stadium at a fast pace, it wasn't quite a jog but not a walk. Her heel clad feet shuffled so fast her small heels didn't even touch the floor. Ace left at least an arm's length between them, enough room to draw slash should he need to.

He followed her until she reached a door and stopped. She gave what he assumed was supposed to be a reassuring smile then unlocked the door with a key that flew out of her handbag and unlocked the door then flew right back in. she smiled again before opening the door and holding it open waiting for him to enter.

He moved closer he noticed the door said Student-Teacher Conference room A1. He peaked into the room through a narrow rectangular window used more for the light, it was empty but for a rectangular table and three chairs. He turned as he entered and placed his back against the wall waiting for her to take her own seat.

"Please sit." She said, indicating to one of the two chairs. He slowly walked to the chair on her left and pulled it out he made sure that his sword was not obstructed in case he needed it. "first I would like to apologise for what happened." She said her hand s folded in front of her on her desk. "I will echo Prince Ben's sentiments."

"if that's all?" he said about to get to his feet.

"I'm afraid not." He sat back down heavily and waited. "one of the things we like to say here is that every student is free to dress and act in any manner they wish as long as it doesn't breach the students uniform code of conduct." He knew she was building to ask him something. "as such we…" she paused "I have been asked to…" she paused again "your sword."

"you want me to surrender my sword?" He asked her she didn't acknowledge verbally but nodded apologetically. "after what happened today. After I was attacked in your school for no other reason than I was born?" She nodded again "I see" she looked abashed at having to ask this "I will not surrender my best means of defence, and I would like to see this code if you please." She nodded and placed her arm almost shoulder deep into the bad and rummaged around inside it.

She pulled out a book the size of a zippo lighter. She placed it on the table then grabbed the upper right corner and the lower-left corner she made a pinching motion and pulled her hands apart making the book larger she then placed her hand in the centre then made a pinching motion and pulled making the book twice as thick.

"it's a bit of a read, but the chapters you need are thirty-five and thirty-six." He flicks open to the correct pages and skims reads until he finds what he's looking for a loophole that he can exploit.

"I'm afraid that I will be unable to do that Head Mistress." He said, handing her the book his gloved finger pointing at the exception rule. "right there in black and white." He said as she took the book and read the exception.

"I'm not sure this applies to you?"

"I think you'll find that not only it applies to me it was written with people like me in mind."

"I'm not sure I follow?"

"Wonderland isn't a part of the United Kingdoms." He replied to her as he sat back on his chair "and unless I am mistaken the White Queen has no blood relation to be her heir?"

"you are indeed correct."

"then as the Red Queens heir and only son and the only Blood descendant of either line I am allowed to be armed for my own defence and after today you cannot say that I do not need it." He didn't expect her to smile, nor did he expect her to clap, but she did both with gusto. He suspected that if he had allowed it, she would have jumped over the table and hugged him.

"wonderful." She smiled a genuinely happy smile, the magic she vibrated was bright and bubbly but also very controlled.

"I'm not sure I follow your happy that you didn't get your way?"

"in this case, I am."

"may I ask why?"

"you may." Ace waited for her to answer then rolled his eyes. He hated when people did that to him Yen Sid was usually the man who made the stupid word plays, but he could see where he got them from.

"ok, then why? He asked

"since Ben proposed this venture, we have been getting a lot of push back from supposed loyal allies that have been proven to be less than loyal." She said with a tone that was very much like a disappointed parent.

"you expected anything less?" he almost chuckled.

"we expected Heroes to act like Heroes and put the good of innocent people before their own personal agendas." He shook his head at her naivety. Humanity is an inherently selfish species with their ultimate authority driving from the threat of and the execution of violence as well as a wish to protect their family against everything.

"Disappointing isn't," he said, the weight in that word was an almost insurmountable of a weight to the Fairy Godmother these days. "To be proven so wrong and see the mask slip." She watched the dark weight settle behind Ace's eyes as if he had seen it a thousand times over, and this was just one more time his cynicism had been proven right. "If that's all?" she nodded, and he got up to leave.

"Just a moment." He paused as he placed both hands on the arms of the chair, he was sitting in. she put her hand back into her bag and pulled a pair of goggle styled sunglasses out of it. "I noticed you're having some difficulty with the light adjustment." She handed them to him. Their lenses were pitch black as if they were absorbing the light around them. He thanked her for them before she stood and placed a hand slowly and gently on his right bicep. "Take the rest of the day to decompress from recent events we'll start tomorrow as normal."

He nodded to her grateful for the eye shield in nothing else as she watched him walk out of the room, she was even more determined to help every child on that gods forsaken island if it was the last thing she ever did. She sighed tiredly the past few days had been more eye opening than she was ever expecting and not in the good way.
