Chapter 7
Kate's P.O.V.
My hands went violently over my hangers as I exhaled frustrated "I have nothing to wear".
"Seriously, Kate? Your closet it's about to burst with so many clothes" the answered came from my sister in my bed.
I had dragged Diana from the kitchen, where she was cooking the dinner for her and Matthew, and took her to my room so she could helping choosing what to wear.
"And still nothing looks good" I replied facing her.
"Everything looks good in you, K" my sister said with a smile while she got up from my bed and started moving in my drawers and closet. After a while Diana gave me a black top, black tights and a red skirt.
"Use this with your red boots" my sister advised and added "It's sexy".
"We are just hanging out as friends" I said was I picked the clothes and went to the bathroom getting dressed.
"Yeah right" I heard her comment with disbelief.
"Actually, I'm just doing this so you can be alone with Professor Clairmont" I provoked putting my clothes on and smiled when I didn't get an answered from my sis. She knew I was right.
"I will finish the dinner" I heard her say on the other side of the door.
After getting dressed I put a light makeup, only a red lipstick and eyeliner and got out of my bathroom. Before I went to the kitchen to find my sister, I up my red high heel boots on.
"So, what do you think?" I questioned her nervous.
At my question my sister looked away from her food to look at me "Uau, you look amazing, K".
"Thanks, sis. You are beautiful" I said when I notice the clothe my sister dressed while I was in the bathroom.
My blonde sister murmured a thank you and then insinuated with a malicious smile "Marcus will love it". I only raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms in answered and Diana raised her hands in surrender "Fine, I'm not going to say anything else about Marcus".
"I just think that you really should move on and be happy. It's been more than a year" my sister said serious and, when I realized what she was referring to, I felt my eyes filing with tears.
"I don't need a men to be happy" I affirmed strong once I managed to hold my tears.
"I know. But everyone needs love" Diana said softly.
"I think I'm gonna go" I told her after I notice at where only five minutes to 7pm.
After I picked up my purse, I gave my sister a quick hug and got out of the apartment.
Once I get to the sidewalk I saw Marcus already there. He was wearing a blue shirt, which was a little tight, with a black coat over it, jeans and sneakers. I had to admit he looked good.
"Hey, Marcus" I said getting closed of him.
"Hey K…" Marcus started saying but he stopped when he really looked at me.
I saw his eyes travel through my body and clothes and notice him swallow. A warm felling ran through my body when I saw the way he was staring at me.
"Marcus?" I call him making him look way from my body to my eyes.
"I'm sorry. I hmm… You look amazing!" he said with a smile making me blush.
"Thanks" I tanked putting a lock of hair behind my ear.
"Here. This is for you" Marcus handed me over a red rose that now I realized he was hiding behind his back.
"Thank you. It's beautiful" I said taking the rose from his hand while I tried not to react to the electricity that ran through my fingers when our hands touched.
"So, where are we going?" I questioned to Marcus.
"I made a reservation on a restaurant nearby. I thought that we could walk to there" he suggested, moving his hand throw his hair in a nervous gesture.
"Sure" I agreed smiling and watched Marcus' posture relaxed.
"So, how was your first day on the lab?" he questioned me while we started walking to the restaurant.
"It was amazing! I'm studying creatures' genetics first, so once I know everything I can really help" I told him.
"Miriam didn't have you a hard time?" Marcus asked me curious.
"Not really. In fact she was the one who gave me all the documents so I could studied them and she also answered some of my questions" he looked very surprised with what I told him.
"Uau! What did you do?" he questioned a little shocked.
"Nothing. Probably Matthew asked her to be nice" I supposed.
"Possibly. But Miriam is too stubborn to do something she doesn't want to" Marcus told me, making me wonder what made Miriam act nicely.
"What is it like to work in a hospital?" I questioned Marcus about his work as I remember him telling me that he worked in a hospital when he was telling about the death of his friend James.
"I have long shifts, but I like being a doctor and save lives. And because I'm a vampire the long hours don't really affect me" Marcus said with a love for his profession that was palpable.
"But, since James' death, Matthew thought that I should be at lab so Miriam could find out why I failed to sire. This afternoon I went to the hospital tie some loose ends" he reveled me sad.
"But this also means that we are going to work together" Marcus said recovering his characteristical happiness "And that's good, right?" he questioned me suddenly nervous.
"That's great" I agreed and noticed again how he passed from a chill attitude to insecure when it is about me.
We only walked for about ten minutes, which passed unnoticed duo to our talk, to get to the restaurant. The inside was very elegant, we were lead to our table and we sat down.
After our drinks arrived I questioned "Vampires drink wine?" pointing to his glass cup.
"Lots of wine. We can also eat" Marcus said after he lifted the glass to his lips and took a sip.
"Everything?" I asked.
"No, we eat raw meats, rare if we are in public and some nuts and berries" he told me.
"Right, whose where we things you told Diana to buy for her dinner with Matthew" I said remembering this morning.
"Exactly" Marcus agreed leaning back on his chair.
"There is something I really want to asked" I started and after I receive his confirmation to continue I questioned "How old are you?"
Marcus smiled and answered simply "I'm a revolutionary".
"You're american?" I asked him shocked.
"Kate, I just told you that I'm hundreds of years old and that's what you are shocked about?" Marcus questioned me amused.
"Yes, I mean, you being almost 300 years old is very impressed, but I really thought you were british" I explained now realizing how funny my reaction must had been.
"No, I'm American, like you".
"How was your life?" I questioned Marcus.
Marcus told me many things about his life during our dinner: his human life, his participation in the Revolutionary War, how Matthew made him a vampire and some moments of his life was a vampire with his vampire family.
We were in the dessert when Marcus asked me about my life "Now, tell me about you".
"There isn't nothing special about my life. It's very normal and boring" I answered, but for his next words Marcus didn't believe in that.
"It is special because it's you" his seriousness caught off guard and I couldn't look away from him.
"Besides I believe that a life with witches must have been quiet magical" Marcus said making me look away him to the white towel of the table.
"My family didn't told me that they were witches for many years" I told him giving a sad smile.
Marcus saw my face and he understand that it was a sensitive subject for me because he started asking me about my job, which I was really tankful about.
When we got out of the restaurant was still early so we went for a walk. And once we weren't in such a public place I started making him the questions I wanted to do about vampires.
"Why is Matthew so possessive with Diana? Specifically with her blood?"
"What?" Marcus questioned confused and surprised at the same time.
"The whole If any vampire is going to take her blood is going to be me thing" I explained quoting Matthew.
"Well, vampires are very possessive with their territory, blood, family and romantic interest" he explained me.
"Is Matthew possessive about her blood or about her?" I made the million dollars question raising my eyebrow to Marcus.
"He is craving her. He desires her blood" Marcus told me.
"But the truth is that he never acted with a witch the way he acts with Diana" he continued and I sighed with relief.
"There is something special about her blood?" I questioned him.
"It's the blood of a witch. It's powerful and it smells and tastes really good" Marcus answered hopping that an honest answered wouldn't shock Kate. But, for is relief it didn't and she kept asking him questions.
"So, that's why you almost lost control with a drop of Diana's blood?" I asked him serious.
"You noticed that" Marcus realized stunted by her perspicacity.
I nodded in agreement and reluctantly asked him "Do I need to be worried?"
"No, I would never hurt your sister" he assured serious stopping in the sidewalk and looking into my eyes.
I stopped in front of Marcus. He got closer when he said "Or you" his hand went up and held my cheek. We were staring at each other with only a few inches separating us when I gave a small step back.
"I'm sorry Marcus it's …" I started apologizing but Marcus interrupted me.
"It's too fast. I understand, you don't need to apologize" he tranquilized me, making me feel even guiltier for pushing him away.
"Thank you" I really appreciated his understanding.
"No problem. Now, what do you want to talk about now?" he said making our talk relaxed and casual again.
"Tell me more about vampires" I asked Marcus.
"Someone likes vampires" he commented with a provocative tone.
"True. But, I really don't know a lot about creatures".
"So, vampires. I will start by telling you everything that's wrong in humans' assumptions about vampires" he said and I nodded encouraging him to continue.
"No coffins, capes, wooden stakes, holly water, garlic, burn in the sun and no fangs" Marcus reveled me crushing all human beliefs.
"What!? No fangs!?" I exclaimed.
"No!" he denied.
"Why not? They are only thing that makes sense" I pointed.
"We don't need them" he said obviously enjoying my reaction.
"So, human teeth are enough to go through human skin?" I rationalized after spending a few seconds processing this new information.
"Well, our teeth are stronger, but yes" Marcus confirmed.
"Besides the fact that we can eat, we also heel quicker, we are faster, stronger and we have heighted senses" he told me.
"This happens because our bodies are very efficient, we are cold, our hearts don't beat often, we breathe very slowly and we don't need much sleep" Marcus explained me.
"Uau" I was absolutely fascinated with the biological differences between humans and vampires and Marcus noticed.
"Give me your hand" he asked me and I didn't hesitated.
Once again Marcus got closer and placed my hand over his chest. For a while I didn't feel anything but then a single beat came from his heart.
"That's too slow Marcus, are you sure you're ok?" I asked him worried moving my eyes from his chest to his dark eyes.
He laugh at my question and quickly tranquilized "I'm fine, Kate".
"It beats slower and loves longer" Marcus told me serious keeping my hand over his heart and then added "We mate for centuries".
"Like your grandparents" I said, remembering what Marcus told me about his family.
"Yes, they were together for thousands of years" he let my hand go and we kept walking.
"How is it like?" I questioned fascinated.
"I never had a mate, but I it is the deepest bond of love" Marcus told me and then revealed "It's a sacred link for vampires. Any threat to a mate's life will result in vicious retribution".
With this last revelation, we stopped in front of the entrance to the apartments' complex.
"I had a great time, Marcus" I said honestly to him.
"Me too, Kate. I will see you tomorrow" he said smiling.
"At the lab" I completed.
"Good night, Kate" Marcus gave his usual side smile.
"Good night, Marcus" I said back, getting closed and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
When I gave a step back, I saw Marcus shocked face. I walked away towards the apartments waving at him one last time.
Once I get in the apartment, I found Diana in the couch and said "Hey, sis".
"Hi, Kate" my sister answered with little enthusiasm.
"So how was the dinner with Matthew?" I questioned to Diana, sitting next to her.
"It was nice" she vaguely answered.
"What happened, D?" I asked her knowing that she was hiding something from me.
"Well, two things. First, Peter Knox showed up but don't worry nothing happened, Matthew arrived" my sister tranquilized when she saw my alarmed face.
"Second, I kissed Matthew" she conclude.
"What? How was it?" I questioned with a hug smile on my face.
"He didn't kiss me back" my sis explained looking sad.
"Oh!" I exclaimed understanding why she looked so disappointed "Don't worry I'm sure he likes you, maybe it was the all thing of him craving your blood".
"Maybe" Diana agreed and then changed the subject. "So how was your date with Marcus?"
"It was great. I really enjoyed it".
"Where did you go?" she asked me.
"Marcus took me to a restaurant about 10 minutes from here and after that we went for a walk and just talked" I told her.
"Just talked?" my sister questioned with a malicious smile.
"Yes. We just talked" I confirmed but then revealed "But, we also almost kiss".
Diana gave a little shout of enthusiasm and asked "Tell me everything".
After a description of my date with Marcus and after I got more details about Diana's date with Matthew I questioned, getting up "I'm going to bed. Are you coming?"
"I want to, but I need to clean this" my sister answered with a tired gasp pointing at the messy living room.
"I will help you tomorrow. Come on! Come to sleep!" I said grabbing Diana's harm and dragging her to her bedroom.
"Thanks. Good night" she thanked at the door of her room.
"Good night" I said getting to my bedroom.
Once lying down I looked at the red rose on my nightstand and my last conscious though was It was a wonderful day.
