3ª P.O.V.

Kate Williams woke up early, she slept too much yesterday after Knox's attack, but she stayed in bed looking at the celling of Marcus' guest room. Last night, the young woman said goodbye to her sister from whom she separated for the first time in 22 years. That memory filled her mind:

Me, Diana, Marcus and Matthew walked to Matthew's car.

"Call me, every single day" I said pulling Diana to a hug.

"I will. Don't worry, that's my job not yours" my sister said putting her harms around me.

"Be careful here. Knox is around" she advised after we split up.

"I know, but I will be with Marcus all the time and Miriam is here too, so I'll be perfectly fine" I said with certainty, making Diana agreed still with some hesitation.

Matthew, who was talking to Marcus probably saying goodbye too, approached us and said "We need to go. The plane leaves soon".

"Ok" my sister agreed and then look back at me "I love you. Be careful".

"I love you too. Be safe" I said pulling my sister to a quick hug.

Me and Marcus stayed on the sidewalk watching their car until it disappeared of our view.

The young Bishop was pulled back from her memory by a knock on the bedroom door, followed by Marcus' soft voice "Kate? Are you awake?"

"Yes, I'll be right there. I'm just going to get dressed" she answered getting out of bed.

After a quick shower, the brunette put on some black jeans, a brown sweater and camel boots with bangs and a light make up, just pink gloss and mascara.

Kate got out of the bathroom, entering the room that was going to be hers for the next days, maybe weeks. It had a queen size bed with a small brown seat at the end, a beige carpet on the dark floor, two bedside tables and two chairs with a small table, like it was her own small living room. Finally, it had two doors: one from the bathroom, from where she just got out, and other from a big closet where the human put her clothes when she arrived on the night before.

The brunette got out of the room and started doing her way to the kitchen. When she and Marcus arrived to his house, after Matthew and Diana left to France, he gave her a guided tour his house.

Kate got to the end of the stairs and found Marcus cooking in the kitchen.

His was the most beautiful kitchen she ever seen. White covered the walls and the cabinets, contrasting perfectly with the dark balcony, decoration and table. But, her favorite part of his kitchen was the huge window, in front of the dinner table, she could totally imagine herself sitting there reading her favorite book or writing her article.

Marcus was next to the balcony preparing what the brunette assumed it was their breakfast.

"Good morning" he said, looking up and smiling.

"Good morning" Kate answered with a smile "What are you doing?" she questioned with a smile, leaning on the balcony.

"Pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast" Marcus answered looking proud.

"Thank you Marcus, you really didn't had to" the brunette thanked, touched by Marcus gesture.

"It's my pleasure, darling" he said with a heavy british accent that made Kate's insides twist.

The vampire took a plate and the coffee to the dinner table and Kate followed him, they sat down.

"This is delicious, Marcus!" the brunette said, when she took the first bite of the breakfast that Marcus made, making him smile.

"Thanks. Did you sleep well? If you don't like the bedroom, I could-" the vampire questioned.

"I slept very well and the bedroom is absolutely perfect, Marcus" Kate interrupted, tranquilizing him.

"So, what's in the schedule for today?" she questioned smiling.

"Well, we have to be in the lab practically all day, but I thought that maybe when we arrived we could have a movie night" Marcus suggested.

"Yeah, I would like that" the brunette remembered when she and Diana had movie night, they would watch movie all night and eat a lot of candies and ice cream. They were awaken by her mother Sarah in the morning and she would make them hot chocolate while she grumbled about having to buy more ice cream.

"I have something for you" Marcus said, getting up and leaving the kitchen. The young Bishop heard him looking for something in the living room.

"Found it!" he exclaimed proudly when he returned to the kitchen. The vampire occupied his sit at the table again "Where. This is for you" Marcus said handing over a key to Kate.

The brunette looked into the vampire's eyes and raised an eyebrow.

"It's a key to the front door. So you can get in without me" Marcus explained.

"Thank you, Marcus" the human smiled, taking the key from his hand and making their fingers touch.

Kate finished her breakfast while she and Marcus kept talking and they washed the dishes before they prepared to leave.

After Kate picked up her brown purse and cardigan, she and Marcus got out of the apartment. They calmly walked to Matthew's laboratory.

When they arrived Miriam was already there, as usual.

"Good morning, Miriam" Kate and Marcus said at the same time, laughing at each other when they noticed it.

Miriam rolled her eyes when she saw them, but she still answered "Good morning".

Kate moved to her table to finish reading the files, hopping that could really help soon. But, unlike the other days, Marcus didn't sit next to her, he remained up and said to the women "I need to go to Matthew's apartment".

"Why didn't you tell me? We could have passed there on our way here" Kate questioned confused, looking from the computer to Marcus.

"Sorry, I didn't want you to be late to work" he explained, moving his hand through his hair in a very human and nervous gesture and Kate's heart melted with Marcus' consideration. She smiled tranquilizing him.

"You can go, Marcus" Miriam said serious looking at the young vampire.

"Ok. I'll be right back" he said to the women and got out of the laboratory.

Marcus had just left when Kate's phone ranged, she picked it up from the table.

"It's Diana" Kate said to Miriam.

"Go ahead. You can answer" the vampire said serious.

"Hey, sis. Are you ok? How was the trip?" Kate questioned as soon as she answered the phone.

"Hi, Kate. Everything is fine. We just arrived" Diana told to her sister.

"How is France?" the brunette asked.

"It's beautiful" the older sister answered trying to sound happy, but Kate noticed some sadness in her sister's tone of voice.

"What's wrong, Diana?" Kate questioned.

"His mother, Ysabeau De Clermont, doesn't want me here" the witch explained.

"Because you're a witch?" the young one questioned.

"Yes, but I think that's also related with her husband, Phillipe. Matthew told me he died in the Second World War" her sister told her, making the brunette realize something very important.

"Wait, didn't my moms once told us that there were witches that worked with the nazis?" Kate said, hopping that she was mistaken.

"Oh my god, you're right" Diana sighed, understanding that was much more than just prejudice.

"Don't think about that right now. Go to sleep. You need to rest because of the jet leg" the younger Bishop advised, worried about her sister.

"Ok. Thanks, K. Love you" Diana thanked, the tiredness showing up in her voice.

"Love you too, D" Kate said hanging up.

Kate sighed when she put her phone back on the table and looked at Miriam seeing her looking to her, she had obviously listened the all talk.

"You're right" Miriam said simply but she then explained "Witches are behind Ysabeau's suffering".

Kate sighed, one part of her was worried about her sister's safety and the other was sad for Ysabeau, she might not know the vampire but she sure as hell knew how badly lose someone you love hurts.

"I'll call Marcus to tell him they arrived" the vampire said after a small moment of silence, making Kate nod.

"Miriam" Marcus said in greeting when he answered the phone.

"Diana called Kate. She and Matthew arrived to Step-Tours" the vampire told him.

"At least they got there safely" Marcus said going up the stairs to Matthew's apartment.

"Witches won't mess with Ysabeau" Miriam said while she picked up paper from a table and looked at it.

"Ysabeau was more chance of ripping Diana Bishop's head that they are" Marcus said, still angry with Matthew for putting his grandmother though that. The only thing he was happy about was the fact that Kate was living with him.

But when Marcus got to the door of the apartment, he stopped and started smelling the air. His silence made Miriam stop looking at the papers.

"Marcus?" she questioned alarmed. Kate who was next to Miriam, looked worried at the vampire.

Marcus didn't answered to Miriam, he kept smelling and when he growled she asked again "Marcus? Marcus, are you there?". Kate was now on red alert, standing up next to Miriam.

The younger vampire totally ignored Miriam as he pushed the door and entered the apartment.

Inside, sitting on a chair, was Juliette Durand, a beautiful vampire sired by Gerbert "Hello, Marcus" she said.

"Juliette" he recognized "What are you doing here?"

"Where is he? Is he chasing after that witch?" she questioned referring to Matthew.

"What witch?" Marcus asked pretending that he didn't know what she was talking about.

"If you don't tell me, Gerbert will be very angry with me" Juliette claimed, getting up from the chair.

"Do you really think I care?" Marcus questioned.

"Does he miss me?" the female vampire questioned back.

"He has moved on. He doesn't think in you. Ever" Marcus told her, getting closer.

His declaration made Juliette angry and she started a fight which was quickly interrupted by Miriam. The older vampire knocked her down, ending the confrontation.

"Can't do anything on your own, can you?" Juliette first said to Marcus when she got up but then she finished looking at Miriam "Always need someone to take care of you".

"Tell Matthew I called" Juliette said to Marcus moving to the door.

But before she could leave, Miriam said to the vampire who was so obsessed with Matthew "Eternity is a long time to be chasing a men who doesn't want you, Juliette". This sentence touched Juliette more than she let them see.

Miriam and Marcus stand there, side to side, in the middle of Matthew's apartment for about two minutes making sure Juliette didn't come back.

Suddently, the apartment door opened up and the vampires took defensive positions, ready to attack other intruder.

However, the person who walked in abruptly was Kate, when Miriam disappeared from the lab, she ran to Matthew's apartment.

When the human at the door saw them prepared to attack, she raised her hands in surrender "Wow, calm down".

Recognizing the young woman, Marcus and Miriam straightened up.

"What are you doing here?" Marcus questioned worried.

"Well, you stopped answering to Miriam and the next thing I know puff she is gone" Kate explained.

"So you just run here?" Miriam questioned, trying to understand Kate's actions.

"Of course, I thought you were in danger" Kate answered.

"You know that we are vampires, right?" the vampire woman asked raising one of her eyebrows.

"Well, I…I didn't remembered that" Kate admitted "I was afraid that you get killed. I had to do something!" she defended.

"Thank you for your concern, Kate. We are fine" Marcus said with a smile.

"What happened?" Kate questioned confused, looking at the broken table.

"Juliette Duran. She is a vampire who used to date Matthew" Miriam told her.

"And she was here?" the human asked worried.

"She was looking for Matthew. She didn't get over him" Marcus explained.

Marcus got closer to Kate and said "Juliette knows that Matthew is interest in a witch" but he quickly assured "But, she might not know that is Diana".

"Diana is safe. Don't worry" Miriam assured to the human once she saw Kate's terrified look "Juliette won't find her".

"You should go back to the lab. I'll fix this mess" Marcus said to Kate and Miriam.

"Wait if she comes back?" the human protested worried about Marcus' safety.

"She left and she won't come back. At least not today" Miriam said, knowing that now Marcus was safe in the apartment.

"I won't be long. Go with Miriam" Marcus assured.

Miriam moved to Kate's side and said "Let's go".

They moved to the apartment door, the vampire's hand on the back of the young human, making sure she didn't stayed behind. But, before they were totally gone, Kate turned her head and looked at Marcus, who was in the middle of Matthew's messy apartment watching her walk away.

Miriam and Kate made their way to the laboratory in silence. When they arrived Kate sat at her table, reading the files while she waited for Marcus. The two woman were working for a while when the vampire walked to the brunette's table.

Kate looked from her computer when she noticed Miriam next to her. "Tell me what you see here" the vampire asked to the human handing her a file.

The youngest Bishop opened it and started looking at the results of a DNA's test "It's a vampire's DNA test" she claimed looking at Miriam for confirmation.

"What else?" the vampire pressured and Kate realized that it was a test to her knowledge and abilities, so she looked closer and after a few seconds she noticed what Miriam was asking for "It was the same markers of the vampires who can't sire".

"Exactly. I'll asked Matthew's opinion but I believe your right" Miriam eulogize "Nice work".

"Thanks Miriam" Kate tanked, proud of herself, to the vampire who walked back to her table.

The young Bishop was about to return to her readings when she realized something "Wait, are whose Marcus' results?"

Miriam looked at her from her sit, surprised by Kate's perspicacity, and for a moment she thought in lying to her, but the brunette's look made her rethink that.

"Yes, they are. But I need to talk to Matthew. Do not tell him" Miriam ordered.

"I won't" Kate agreed, although she wanted to tell Marcus she also knew that you need to make tests and ask for opinions before reveling them.

Not long after, Marcus returned from Matthew's apartment and sat down next to Kate working. They often started discussing different theories and even Miriam intervened.

By noon Kate and Marcus prepared to leave for their lunch break. The human passed by Miriam table and, by accident, threw some papers on the floor. She immediately picked them up and Marcus helped.

Kate didn't noticed, but when he put the papers back on the table, Marcus saw his name in some results.

Did you like it? Let me know.

Marcus called "darling" to Kate. I admit I kinda stole that from another very hot male character. Can you guess who he is?

In the next chapter: Kate is upset with Marcus.
