Chapter 13

3ª P.O.V.

Miriam and Kate didn't talk during the weekend, so when Kate arrived at the lab, finding Miriam already there, as usual, the first thing she did was to apologize to the vampire.

"Hey, Miriam. I'm so sorry for friday night-"

"It's fine, Kate. You haven't done anything wrong" the vampire said giving a small smile to the worried brunette, who sat in front of her.

"No?" Kate questioned, she still doesn't remember of the last part of the night.

"No. You just dance on top of a table, but I took you out of there" Miriam told her.

The young Bishop sighed of relief "I thought it was much worst" and then added sincerely "Thank you".

"On the next girls' night, we definitively stay with your idea of fun" Kate said.

"Next?" Miriam questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah. I mean …if you want to keep having girls' nights… never mind it was just an idea… bad idea… I just thought you had fun" the human stopped talking, aware of her frantic speech and the look the vampire was giving her.

"I did had fun and yes, I would like to keep having girls' nights" Miriam said with a small smile "Wine and films noir?"

"Perfect, movies and ice cream. I'll stay away from alcohol for a while" Kate explained "When?"

"Tonight?" Miriam suggested, all her nights were spent working, with only a glass of wine for company or, in a bad day, a bottle.

"Absolutely".

After lunch, Marcus and Kate were walking back to the lab, distracted with their talk, when a familiar voice called "Kate?"

The young Bishop froze, making Marcus stop worried by her side, she was looking forward at a young couple who was walking towards them.

Seeing Kate's terrified look, Marcus reached out and hold the brunette's hand, making her look into Marcus' dark eyes. The vampire didn't recognized the look that the human gave him.

Kate then look down at their hands, the way their fingers intertwined perfectly and the feeling of safety that came from the gesture surprise her.

"Hi, Kate" Jonathan said, stopped in front of them with the woman he cheated on Kate with by his side, Stephanie.

"What are you doing here?" the brunette questioned tense, her tone of voice making Marcus nervous.

"We're celebrating our engagement" Stephanie answered, showing the engagement ring in her hand. Kate looked from the ring to her ex, who almost looked embarrassed.

"How are you doing? It's been a while" he questioned, changing the subject.

"One year" the brunette pointed out before she look at the vampire next to her "Marcus, this is Jonathan".

Marcus looked up and down at Kate's ex-boyfriend, making the man feel uncomfortable.

"Oh, it's good to have a face to associate with a name" the vampire's threatening tone didn't went unnoticed by Kate, who squeezed his hand, hopping that was enough to hold him down.

"Dr. Marcus Whitmore" the vampire introduced himself and then added "I'm Kate's boyfriend".

Kate looked shocked, she never imagined hearing these words from Marcus' mouth, and she wasn't the only surprised, Jonathan and Stephanie were staring at the other couple.

Marcus' arm wrapping around her waist, shook the brunette out of her torpor and she looked at Marcus, her eyes wide before she smiled at him and leaned against his side, wrapping her right arm around him too.

"And I'm Stephanie" the woman next to Jonathan introduced herself.

"So, what's your specialty?" Kate's ex questioned to the vampire.

"I work in the ER" the vampire answered, surprising the other humans.

"That's amazing" Stephanie said, rolling a lock of hair in her finger while she stared at Marcus.

"And how did you two meet?" Jonathan questioned after he gave a look at his girlfriend for flirting with Marcus.

"Kate's lab was a partnership with my hospital. We met though work" Kate was relieved that Marcus took the lead and invented a story for their fake relationship and she liked the fact that his lies were not so different from the truth. It gave her hope.

"The rest is just a beautiful love story" Marcus concluded with a smile, looking into the brunette's eyes.

"So, I guess you two work a lot" Jonathan's annoying voice interrupted their moment.

Kate tensed, one of the main problems in her relationship with Jonathan was the long hours her job required.

"Yes, we do. But we always have time for each other. I mean, she's gorgeous, brilliant, brave, funny, kind, all I want to do is to spend every second of every day with her" Marcus finished looking at the brunette, who could stop herself from blushing.

Kate put her hand on his check, unconsciously leaning towards him and admitted "And I want to spend every second of every day with him".

Their moment in each other's arms was once again interrupted by the brunette's ex, who was uncomfortable with the display of affection "Well, we have to go".

"It was nice to meet you" he continued, reaching out for Marcus to shake.

The vampire shook his hand, making sure that he squeezed hard "You too, Jimbo".

Kate held back a laugh at the name as Jonathan corrected, trying to pull his hand from Marcus' deathly grab "It's Jonathan".

"Yeah, sure" Marcus dismissed, returning to hold the brunette's hand gently.

Totally ignoring the woman with whom Kate's ex-boyfriend cheated on her, Marcus pulled Kate in the direction of the lab, leaving the other couple behind.

"I can't believe you called him Jimbo" Kate laughed, still holding Marcus' hand.

"He's lucky that was the only thing I did" the vampire mumbled grumpy with not been able to give a piece of his mind (or fist) to the brunette's ex.

"But that was really good too" he admitted with a smile when he saw Kate's look.

"Thank you for pretending to be my boyfriend, I didn't him to now that it took me a year to move on while he was in a relationship and got engaged" Kate thanked, in a now serious tone, stopping and facing the vampire.

"I know" Marcus said, stopping in the sidewalk with her "Anytime".

"You are an amazing actor, they actually believe that you were in love with me" the Bishop said, trying to look casual.

"Of course they did, I wasn't faking it. All I said its true" the vampire revealed "I'm in love with you, Kate".

Kate stand there, in front of Marcus, surprised with his declaration, she knew he liked her, but she didn't knew that he was in love with her.

Marcus didn't took his eyes out of the brunette, her silence was making him very nervous and he started regretting tell her about his feelings when Kate quickly approached, placed her hands on both sides of his face and kissed him.

The vampire was shocked for a second, but as soon as his brain registered the brunette's warm lips he responded to the kiss, molding his lips to hers and placing his hands on her waist.

When Kate pulled away for breath, she looked into Marcus' eyes and said with a smile "I'm in love with you too, Marcus".

Marcus gave a hug smile at her words and questioned "Those this means that we're dating?"

"Absolutely" she answered, leaning to other kiss.

After so many centuries, there weren't many things that surprised Miriam, but then she saw Kate and Marcus walking in the lab, holding hands and with gigantic smiles on their faces.

The young Bishop had become very good in identify Miriam's feelings by her almost imperceptible facial expressions, so when she saw the vampire's raised eyebrow and her eyes widen for a split second, she knew Miriam was surprised.

"Hey, Miriam" Marcus said, swinging their joined hands.

"So, we have news" Kate started hesitantly, only now she remembered that the lab could have a no fraternization policy.

"We're dating!" the young vampire revealed happy, not noticing the brunette's sudden hesitation.

The silence filled the laboratory and after a while even Marcus was hesitant, curiously it was break by the oldest vampire.

"Finally!" Miriam exclaimed, surprising the couple.

"I couldn't stand to hear you sighing in the corners anymore!" the older vampire continued, looking at Marcus.

"I did not sighed!" he protested offended, making Kate laugh and Miriam raise an eyebrow.

"He totally did" Miriam said calmly to the Bishop, making her smile at the vampire in question.

"So, it's ok for us to date?" Kate questioned now serious, vocalizing her previous concerns.

"Since you two keep being professionals, which I know you will, there's no problem with your relationship. And I'm sure Matthew will agree" Miriam answered, making the brunette sighed with relief.

"Thank you, Miriam" the new couple said at the same time.

"Just don't have sex in my lab" the head of the lab asked, after a moment of reflection.

"There goes that idea" Marcus joked.

Kate hit his chest and exclaimed blushed "Marcus!"

"Just joking, darling" he apologized, but his malicious smile and wink showed her that he wasn't sorry.

"I thought that we could go out tonight" Marcus suggested, when he and Kate arrived home.

"I would love that, but I'm going to Miriam's house tonight so we can watch a movie. She likes our girls' nights" the brunette told Marcus, feeling terrible for not had telling him sooner.

"I'm so sorry for not telling you, Marcus" the brunette apologized, not giving time to the vampire to talk "You know what, I can call it off. It's our first night as a couple and we should go out together-".

Marcus interrupted Kate, laying his hands on the sides of her face and kissing her, when they split, the Bishop stared at him wide-eyed.

"It's fine. You really should go. Besides, I'm always where for our dates and Miriam might run off if you give her time to realize that she's getting soft" Marcus joked with a huge smile, making her laugh.

"You're right" Kate agreed "But, tomorrow night. You and me. Date Night" she said pointing at the vampire.

Marcus raised an eyebrow and questioned with a malicious smile "Are you asking me out?"

"Yes, I am".

At 7p.m. Kate took a cab to Miriam's house. She was late, because she add to convince Marcus that she could go alone, after all it was only two blocks away and she would only leave the cab when she arrived to Miriam's place.

When the cab stopped, the Bishop saw the vampire standing at the front door.

"Hey, Miri" Kate said absently as she closed the cab door and paid the driver, not realizing that she used the nickname she created for the vampire.

"Hi, Kate. Something happened?" Miriam questioned as soon as the cab drove away, Kate was very punctual and the older woman was starting to get worried with the delay.

"No, Marcus was just worried and I had to reassure him" the brunette explained, becoming surprised with the malicious smile that she received from the vampire.

"I'm sure you had" Miriam insinuated.

Kate looked wide-eyed at the woman and questioned surprised and amused "Is Dr. Miriam Shepard making dirty insinuations?"

The vampire laughed and at the brunette's raised eyebrow she said "Maybe. Come in" she invited opening the door to the human.

The Bishop laughed and got in, the inside of the house was impeccably clean and despite the unpersonal decoration, Kate noticed some pieces that gave a more personal touch.

"What movie are we going to watch?" the brunette questioned while she admired a tinny and adorable microscope.

"I thought of Double Indemnity" Miriam suggested "Do you even like noir films?"

"Of course I do. I used to watch them with my mom Sarah all the time" Kate answered, noticing the vampire's suspicious look.

The young Bishop and the vampire sat on the couch, with a blanket over them, even though Miriam said that she didn't left cold like humans do, eating cookie dough and drinking wine.

As soon as the credits showed up, Miriam turned off the TV and faced Kate.

"So, Marcus. What made you change your mind?" Miriam questioned, sipping her wine.

"When I bumped into Jonathan and Stephanie today the only thing I could think was that moment when I discovered that he was cheating on me, all those feelings just rose to the surface and I was about to freak out" Kate revealed, surprising the vampire with the emotional speech.

"But then Marcus hold my hand" the brunette remembered with a smile "and all of that just disappeared and, I know it's a cliché, but I felt that everything would be ok".

"And the reason why it was so easy to pretend that we were in love was because I wasn't pretending. I realized that I'm in love with Marcus and I'm couldn't deny that" Kate finished, looking at Miriam, who seemed a little shocked.

"Too cheesy?" the human questioned when the other woman didn't said anything.

"No, I just … you were so insecure because of your previous relationship that didn't know you had such deep feelings for Marcus" Miriam answered honestly.

"I didn't knew it either. I just realized it today" Kate told to her friend.

"There's food in the fridge for you" the vampire said, after a moment of silence, changing the subject, but the brunette wasn't offended by that, she knew that Miriam wasn't the type of woman that easily talked about feelings.

"Thanks, Miriam" the Bishop thanked, touched with the other woman's consideration.

"Another movie?" the vampire questioned loud.

"Yeah, sure" the Bishop answered from the kitchen, where she heated the food, which happened to be one of her favorites, before she sat next to Miriam again, watching the second of the three movies of their girls' night.

So, Kate and Marcus are finally together! I hope it was like you imagined it, let me know all about it.
